Watch: Amanda Palmer, ‘Hurt’

The amazing performer Amanda Palmer, who is featured in a new short film titled Statuesque written and directed by the amazing author Neil Gaiman, performed a New Year’s Eve concert in Boston, MA with the Boston Pops Orchestra and during that show they performed an amazing rendition of the Nine Inch Nails song Hurt:

Palmer is a huge NIN fan so I’m not surprised to learn that she decided to perform the song during this very special concert appearance. After the jump, check out Amanda Palmer and the Boston Pops Orchestra‘s performance of Hurt in full …

For the iPhone fan who has everything
iSleep

Ever wonder what gift to get for that techie iPhone fan who is impossible to shop for because s/he rushes out and buys all the iPhone accessories as soon as they come out leaving you with no chance of surprising them with a gift? Well, look no further … behold, the iDream iPhone bed set by Ellos:

They say it’s bad for your health to sleep near your mobile phone. Sleeping underneath it is, presumably, a different matter. At least, that is what Swedish retailers Ellos must be hoping as they launch their latest product – a children’s iPhone duvet and pillow. The ultimate duvet set for nerds – seeking to even trounce Star Wars and Star Trek products – is a replica of the iPhone and iPod Touch complete with a giant touchscreen and apps. The digital duvet and bed linens are available for $49 U.S. at the company’s online store. It is not clear if Apple, which makes the iPhone, is involved in the product – though one hopes not. For closer inspection reveals a glaring mistake on the duvet: the word calendar on one of the giant apps has been spelt incorrectly, as ‘calender’. That would be a machine in which cloth or paper is pressed by rollers. A ‘calendar’ is what shows the days, weeks and months of a particular year. That seems like a mistake that the geniuses who created the devices that revolutionized the telephone and music industries are not likely to have made – though of course, as Apple has proved time and time again, anything is possible.

Whatever, misspelling or not … this is really cool … in a terribly dorky way. To be honest, if I thought David would let me, I’d get one of these for the bed but … alas, he’d never go for it. Hmmmm … mebbe for the guest room …

The Destiny's Child one not the 'Brokeback Mountain' one
Michelle Williams Is Headin’ For Broadway

Remember how Ashlee Simpson got that role as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway after she got fired from Melrose Place last year? Yeah, well, it looks like she got fired again … Michelle Williams, formerly of Destiny’s Child, has just be cast to take her place. Much Ashlee before her, Michelle first played the part in the West End production of the show in London … but now she’s headed for Broadway, y’all!

Former Destiny’s Child star Michelle Williams will see her name in lights next month when she high-kicks her way into the starring role of Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway. Williams, 29, will play the wannabe star-turned-murderess for a limited run in the hit musical from Feb. 8 to March 28. Williams will be taking over from Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, who debuted in the revival on Dec. 1. (A winner of six Tonys, this production of Chicago has been running on Broadway for 13 years.) Williams first played Roxie last year in London’s West End production. Williams, who won three Grammy Awards while she was with Destiny’s Child, has since released three solo albums and in 2003 made her Broadway debut in Aida, replacing fellow singer Toni Braxton. She also performed in the national tour of The Color Purple.

Well, at least we know that Williams can sing … so, on that accord, she’s got Ashlee beat. I was certain that Ashlee would be able to hang on to this role for more than just a couple of months but, well, them’s the breaks. I wish Michelle Williams nothing but the best of luck … Broadway can be tough but I think she can handle it well. Break a leg, kiddo!

Behold Ratt Hemp
Rihanna & Matt Kemp Continue Their Mexican Holiday

Yesterday we saw the first photos of Rihanna and her new lover Matt Kemp (of the Los Angeles Dodgers) lookin’ all lovey-dovey in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico together and today we get to see new photos of the couple out on the town South of the border. Rihanna and Matt, who I’ve dubbed Ratt Hemp, spent part of their day swimming with dolphins before they stepped out for dinner at a place called Squid Roe … behold:

Oh yeah, it’s plainly obvious to anyone with eyes that these two are desperately in love … it’s really very cute to see. Now whether or not this turns out to be love love is another story. Ratt Hemp look like they are having a fantastic time in Mexico these days … the real test will come after they leave paradise for the real world. I’m pulling for them to make it, tho. I think they look really good together.

The TV Guide
Date Knight

Last night David and I enjoyed our most recent Date Night and because we hadn’t had a Date Night in quite a few weeks (due to the Holidays) we collaborated on picking the activity. In the end, we decided to go to Medieval Times in Buena Park, CA:

I can’t even tell you how much fun we had. It was a total blast from start to end. The cheesy factor wasn’t as high as I feared and, to be honest, the food was really good. As you may know, you eat with your hands at Medieval Times (just like the days of yore, before utensils were invented) so everything had to be big and grippy. We started out with Dragon’s Blood soup (spicy tomato soup, that is), then had Baby Dragon (a full half chicken) … followed by spare rib, potatoes and dessert. It was just a lot of fun. There’s a whole show, more than just jousting … ’twas a lot of fun. After the jump, check out some of the Polaroid pics I snapped last night and see our official photo with the Medieval Times princess …

The awards season gets underway
Celebs Shine At The 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival

Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala which took place at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, CA last night. While we know, for sure, that Mariah Carey was DRUNK off her ass when she appeared on stage at the awards ceremony to collect her award for Breakthrough Actress last night, we cannot be sure she was wasted while on the red carpet … but that would be a good guess. Other attendees included Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard, relative newcomer Jeremy Renner (from The Hurt Locker) and the always amazing Shohreh Aghdashloo:

Awards season got off to a roaring start Tuesday night — not in Hollywood, but a few hours away at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala. Heavy hitters including Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mariah Carey, Marion Cotillard, Quentin Tarantino and Jason Reitman were honored in the first stop on the road to the Academy Awards. “I’m trying really hard not to cry,” Precious director Lee Daniels said on the red carpet. “How do you make a movie for $2 and end up here? It’s out-of-body right now.” The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner said he’s “dumbfounded” by the awards attention his film is receiving. “I’m still that guy who eats Top Ramen by candlelight — just in better clothes,” he said. And if a fortune teller could have predicted this level of success a year ago, Renner said, he would have told them: “You’re out of your mind!” Up in the Air star Anna Kendrick was equally overwhelmed. “The fact that anybody would want my autograph is amazing,” she said. Ladies swoon over Kendrick’s co-star George Clooney, and Kendrick admits to “building him up so much in your head,” but said “it takes two seconds for him to convince you he’s not someone to be afraid of” … Carey, meanwhile, is still shocked she nabbed a role in Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire. “I read the book Push a long time ago. I was crying for two days because I read the book twice. Never did I think there was a part in (the movie) for me.” Carey urged people to see the film: “Thank God, finally somebody is showing the truth. It’s a tough life for some people,” she said, referencing the film’s main character, a pregnant, poor, illiterate teen. Nine director Rob Marshall had nothing but praise for Cotillard, who stars as film director Guido Contini’s wife. “She’s magic to work with. She’s otherworldly. She’ll have a career forever because she is also a character actor,” he said. “She is that special, and she’s worked very, very hard on her English.” Diablo Cody, who won a best-screenplay Oscar in 2008 for Juno, said she’s happy to be a spectator this awards season: “I always say I’m like Scott Hamilton commenting on the Olympics. It’s a lot less nerve-wracking!” She said she’s proud of Reitman, who directed Juno and is winning raves this season for Up in the Air. “He’s been blowing up as long as I’ve known him,” Cody said. Awards season veteran Morgan Freeman said he’s not excited by awards season anymore. “The most exciting thing about this is meeting old friends. I’m still starstruck!” Entertainment Tonight’s Mary Hart hosted the gala, which kicks off the film festival that will run through Jan. 17.

And so … the awards season is underway. I suspect we’ll be seeing and hearing about this crop of actors as more awards shows/ceremonies take place. I hope Jeremy Renner continues to be honored for his work, he was fantastic in The Hurt Locker. We shall see how the rest of the awards season goes.

“How dope would it have been if I would’ve won the Oscar"
Jennifer Lopez Tells ‘Latina’ Magazine She Deserves An Oscar

Okay, I’m gonna need y’all do do me a favor. Please make sure you are not snacking or nibbling on anything, nor are chewing on any pens or pencils while reading this post. I don’t want any of y’all to choke to death on the ridiculousness of Jennifer Lopez‘s comments in the new issue of Latina magazine. J. Lo is featured on the cover and in the pages of the newest issue of the mag and in her coverstory interview, she talks about how shocked she was not to be nominated for an Academy Award in the film El Cantante … you’re not choking, right? Read on …

“I feel like I had that [Oscar-worthy role] in El Cantante, but I don’t even think the Academy members saw it. I feel like it’s their responsibility to do that, to see everything that’s out there, everything that could be great … Well, it is a little bit frustrating. It was funny; when the Oscars were on, I had just given birth on the 22nd, and the Oscars, I think, were a day or two later. I was sitting there with my twins — I couldn’t have been happier — but I was like, ‘How dope would it have been if I would’ve won the Oscar and been here in my hospital bed accepting the award?’ ‘Thank you so much! I just want to thank the Academy!’ But we joked about it. It’s all good.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I’m, um, sorry but … BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I can’t, um, even really think properly right now … HAHAHAHAHAHAHA … but after the jump, check out a few more nuggets from J. Lo‘s interview with Latina magazine …

Disney Releases A New Promo Pic Of Johnny Depp As The Mad Hatter

We are just a few months away from the release of Tim Burton‘s Alice In Wonderland but the promo materials just keep on comin’, ensuring that our excitement level is kept up. The official Facebook profile for the film has been updated with a new promo photo of Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter:

FACEBOOK EXCLUSIVE: The Mad Hatter, Alice, and the Queens – both Red and White – want to wish all of the ALICE IN WONDERLAND fans a Happy New Year! Please enjoy the first official photo of The Mad Hatter from the film. Be sure to visit more often – you never know what surprises will come your way.

As far as the “first official photo of The Mad Hatter” goes, they could’ve given us a better pic but I’m not really complaining, I’m happy to take what they give us. It’s funny, when we first heard about the film back in July with the release of the first teaser trailer (well, actually we first officially heard about the film back in June … many months after we got our very FIRST inkling of this Burton-directed Wonderland movie in November of 2008 when that first photo of The Mad Hatter leaked to the Internets) it seemed like March 2010 was so far away … now we’re almost there. I’m seriously dying of anticipation … IMAX 3D is the way to go. I hope the promo pics keep comin’ … even tho we’re just a few months away from the film’s release, I still want to see more.
