So says Facebook
There are reports going around today that Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have gotten engaged to be wed. After splitting in July of 2008, the couple reunited around March of 2009 … and have been going strong ever since. Today we are hearing that an update on Drew‘s Facebook profile has sparked news of this supposed engagement — behold:
Looks like little Miss Barrymore just updated her status page! OMG! YAY! And congratulations! What a whirlwind this month must be for her! First the awards, and now the cutest boy in the world!
Yes, as you may recall, Drew picked up awards at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this month … and if this new rumor is to be believed, she’s about to pick up a new hubby, too. While this news sounds great, I’m gonna hold off on totally believing this news until we hear something more official. For now, I’ll offer a cautious congrats to the happy couple. It would be totally fab if Drew and Justin did tie the knot :)

The TV Guide
Yesterday was a nice, relaxing day full of fun and lots of Chick-Fil-A. I got the hankering to get me some Chick-Fil-A as I headed South towards the beach so made a quick pit-stop at the South Bay Galleria so I could satiate my hunger … and it was delish, as usual. Because I was in their neighborhood, I hooked up with my friends Emma and Josh and wouldn’t you know it — they wanted Chick-Fil-A, too! So, back in the car to the South Bay Galleria we went for my second visit to the eatery in under 2 hours:
The rest of the night was spent just hanging out, making obscene mobile phone videos involving a pump, a ball and a lot of grunting. It’s not as dirty as it sounds but out of love for my new friends, I shall refrain from sharing the video with the world.
I also swung by Target to pick up a free pair of 3D glasses so I can watch the 3D tribute portion of the Grammy Awards devoted to the late Michael Jackson tonight. Did you get your glasses? The show airs in just a few hours. This afternoon, I think I’m going back to the water … this time, I’ll head North methinks. Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!!

Hurray!! It is that time of the week when we pause to reflect upon the Hot Dude of the Week. It was Australia Day earlier this week on the 26th and so, in belated celebration, I present to you a fine young Aussie chap photographed by Vincent Li. Say hello to Luke Galdan:
As I understand it from Wikipedia, Australia Day is a celebration of “the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia” and I can’t think of a better way to honor such a day than with a hawt lookin’ hunk of Oz manflesh. Luke, here, is even draped in the Australian flag like a good Aussie should. Whether or not you celebrate Australia Day, I think we can all appreciate the wonderful bounty that Oz has bestowed upon the world … not the least of which is their very handsome guys ;) Enjoy!!

Jamie Foxx hosed a pre-Grammy party at L’Ermitage here in Los Angeles, CA last night and one of his best BFFs came out for the affair. Here are a few cute pics of Jamie with his bro Jake Gyllenhaal:
As you may recall, it was just about a year ago that we got our first look at Jakey poo starring in Jamie‘s music video for his song Blame It. It would seem that the guys have stayed homies ever since. You know, any excuse to post pics of Jake Gyllenhaal (who has been pretty much M.I.A. since his break-up with Reese Witherspoon … tho, to be honest, he kinda fell off the planet for the majority of their time together). Here’s hoping that 2010 will coax the newly single Jake out and about more often :) Seeing him at Jamie‘s pre-Grammy party last night is a good start.

First woman to ever win the 'Best Director' award at the DGAs
Congratulations are in order today for director Kathryn Bigelow, who helmed the amazing film The Hurt Locker, because last night she was honored with the award for Best Director at the 62nd Annual Directors Guild of America Awards. Not only is this award very fitting because, IMHO, her film The Hurt Locker is the best film of 2009 but Bigelow now has the distinction of being the first woman to win this award from the DGA:
Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the best director award from the Directors Guild of America on Saturday with her Iraq war thriller “The Hurt Locker,” a low-budget film gathering awards steam ahead of the Oscars. The winner of the Guild’s top award has gone on to take the best director Oscar all but six times in the last 61 years. Oscar nominations will be announced next Tuesday and “The Hurt Locker” is expected to garner several nods, including best film and best director. Bigelow beat out four other directors, including her former husband James Cameron, who had won the Golden Globe for best director this month for his mega-budget blockbuster “Avatar.” “I am so deeply stunned and honored and proud,” Bigelow told the celebrity-heavy crowd of Hollywood directors and actors. “I think we all felt a really deep responsibility to tell this story with as much honesty as possible, given the courage of the men and women in the field,” she added. “The Hurt Locker” tells the story of a three-man U.S. military bomb squad that defuses explosives amid the fighting and insurgents. Many critics consider the film to be the most accurate portrayal of the Iraq war since it began in 2003. Bigelow, also a producer of the film, used little known actors and recreated the difficult conditions of Iraq by shooting mostly in the Middle East during the summer. In the last week, the underdog film was also named best picture by the Producers Guild of America. The winner of that award has gone on to take the best picture Oscar in 13 of the past 20 years, including the two most recent events. “The Hurt Locker,” which is available on DVD after a low-key release in theaters, also won the best picture prize at the Critics Choice Awards … But when asked backstage how it felt to be the first woman to win the Directors Guild award, Bigelow played down her gender and said: “I suppose I like to think of myself as a filmmaker.”
This is FANTASTIC news! It’s crazy to think that in the entire 62 year history of the Directors Guild of America Awards, Kathryn Bigelow is only the first woman to win the Best Director top prize. Her film is truly a tour de force, I hope this win portends the way the Oscars will turn out. I would LOVE for her to also become the first woman to win the Best Director award at the Academy Awards as well. If you haven’t seen The Hurt Locker, I strongly suggest that you do … since it is now available on DVD, there is no reason not to. I honestly feel that Locker is the best film of 2009 … due, in large part, to the amazing direction by Kathryn Bigelow. Congrats to her, again!!
His Royal Hotness's 3 Day Visit
A few weeks ago Prince William made an official visit to New Zealand and Australia on behalf of the British Royal Family and this weekend we learn that his younger brother Prince Harry has made his way to the island nation of Barbados for a 3-day visit there. Prince Harry spent some time visiting with young children, making for very cute photos:
Prince Harry has shown his caring side by cuddling a baby during a visit to a Barbados hospital. The 25-year-old royal was pictured cradling the infant, aged seven weeks, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the island’s capital Bridgetown. Baby Jean-Luc Jordan was nestled in the prince’s arms as the tot’s father Michael looked on. The prince will spend time with the sick youngsters as well as staff and volunteers from the hospital. Harry is mid-way through a three-day visit to the Caribbean country where he will play in a charity polo match in aid of impoverished African children. He will take to the pitch at the exclusive Apes Hill Polo Club on Sunday to raise money for his charity Sentebale which helps orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho. He will be joined by Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, co-founder of Sentebale, at a garden party for orphaned youngsters and vulnerable children at Barbados’ national museum. The prince will tour the institution’s Africa gallery before watching a cultural performance by local entertainers. In the evening, Harry will attend a music concert in aid of the relief effort in Haiti.
That Haitian relief event took place last night and while the images of Harry with little babies and children is enough to melt your heart, the photos of him dancing his ass off on stage are just awesome. Check out those pics after the jump … More »
Janet Jackson is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Wonderland magazine and altho neither the coverstory interview nor the accompany photospread is available online (just yet), we do get to check out a fun preview of JJ in the mag:
Honestly, I’m not too keen on the cover photo because it looks like a photo she has taken many, many times before. Screaming — really, Janet? But the other preview photo that has been made available from this shoot is really cute. After the jump, check out the other photo and a short video clip that gives quick peeks of some of the other photos, too … More »
The annual event
Music mogul Clive Davis hosted his annual Pre-Grammy Gala event at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA last night bringing out a who’s who of music big wigs (as well as a very awkward pair of newlyweds who seem to have difficulty with the kissing) to celebrate Grammy weekend as only he knows how to do. Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson were among the performers at last night’s affair (you may recall that Whitney Houston was among the performers at last year’s event, kicking off her stunning musical comeback which took place later in the year). Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals along with some deets about the soiree:
It was an incongruous group. On one level were Hollywood royalty Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda, Joan and Jackie Collins. In their sights, on the next level down, were Mary J Blige, Taylor Swift, Maxwell, Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas, Keyshia, Mos Def, Nelly, Jonas Brothers, Russell Brand and his fiance Katy Perry, the Kings of Leon, Usher and Jon Bon Jovi and many others. They were seated in what is known as the ‘pit’ inside the Beverly Hilton’s international ballroom. The old guard and the new guard of Hollywood movies and rock ‘n’ roll were gathered for the annual pre-Grammy party hosted by music industry mogul Clive Davis, known as ‘golden ears’ for his ability in finding and developing music artists. Some claim the pre-Grammy bash on Saturday night is bigger, and better, than the official Grammy show on Sunday night. It’s certainly a looser affair. Celebrities knock back wine and champagne and table hop. The evening saw Mary J Blige publicly humiliate her band in front of an audience that included recording industry titans and some of the biggest names in rock. The singer lost her cool as, ironically, she was about to sing a song titled No More Drama … Diva she may be but, to be fair to Mary J. Blige, she did sing beautifully and by the time she completed her performance her behaviour towards the band was forgiven and she earned a standing ovation … The night’s most amusing sight was observing Joan Collins and sister Jackie on their feet and waving their arms as Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas performed on stage. At least they moved in time to the music. Jennifer Hudson, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in Dreamgirls, performed a string of its associated with Barbra Streisand. Beforehand Hudson joked that she was frightened she would forget the lyrics. ‘They kept changing what songs I’d sing so I had to stay focused’, Hudson told the Daily Mail. Clive Davis hailed Oscar, Grammy and Tony award winner Streisand as a ‘unique, singular artist’ who boasted a number one album in five consecutive decades. ‘She’s the movie soundtrack of our lives’, Davis said of Streisand. Other big names at the pre-Grammy gig included Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx and Harry Connick Jr. Rhianna sat at a prime table in the ‘pit’. This time last year she was seated at a similar table with Chris Brown … His name was missing from every Grammy party this weekend. However, Rhianna’s career has never been hotter and on Saturday everyone in the international ballroom queued to hug her.
Yes, as you may recall it was after Clive Davis‘s Pre-Grammy Gala last year that Brown brutally and criminally assaulted Rihanna. I’m so happy to see that Rihanna had no qualms about attending this event a year later, especially considering the horrible memories it is bound to dredge up. Grammy weekend does not get started until Clive throws his party so … it is now officially upon us. The Grammy Awards air LIVE on the East Coast starting at 8pm ET. Make sure you pick up your 3D glasses at Target so you can watch the tribute to Michael Jackson in 3D:
