So says Facebook
There are reports going around today that Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have gotten engaged to be wed. After splitting in July of 2008, the couple reunited around March of 2009 … and have been going strong ever since. Today we are hearing that an update on Drew‘s Facebook profile has sparked news of this supposed engagement — behold:
Looks like little Miss Barrymore just updated her status page! OMG! YAY! And congratulations! What a whirlwind this month must be for her! First the awards, and now the cutest boy in the world!
Yes, as you may recall, Drew picked up awards at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this month … and if this new rumor is to be believed, she’s about to pick up a new hubby, too. While this news sounds great, I’m gonna hold off on totally believing this news until we hear something more official. For now, I’ll offer a cautious congrats to the happy couple. It would be totally fab if Drew and Justin did tie the knot :)

Yesterday was a nice, relaxing day full of fun and lots of Chick-Fil-A. I got the hankering to get me some Chick-Fil-A as I headed South towards the beach so made a quick pit-stop at the South Bay Galleria so I could satiate my hunger … and it was delish, as usual. Because I was in their neighborhood, I hooked up with my friends Emma and Josh and wouldn’t you know it — they wanted Chick-Fil-A, too! So, back in the car to the South Bay Galleria we went for my second visit to the eatery in under 2 hours:
The rest of the night was spent just hanging out, making obscene mobile phone videos involving a pump, a ball and a lot of grunting. It’s not as dirty as it sounds but out of love for my new friends, I shall refrain from sharing the video with the world.
I also swung by Target to pick up a free pair of 3D glasses so I can watch the 3D tribute portion of the Grammy Awards devoted to the late Michael Jackson tonight. Did you get your glasses? The show airs in just a few hours. This afternoon, I think I’m going back to the water … this time, I’ll head North methinks. Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!!

Hurray!! It is that time of the week when we pause to reflect upon the Hot Dude of the Week. It was Australia Day earlier this week on the 26th and so, in belated celebration, I present to you a fine young Aussie chap photographed by Vincent Li. Say hello to Luke Galdan:
As I understand it from Wikipedia, Australia Day is a celebration of “the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia” and I can’t think of a better way to honor such a day than with a hawt lookin’ hunk of Oz manflesh. Luke, here, is even draped in the Australian flag like a good Aussie should. Whether or not you celebrate Australia Day, I think we can all appreciate the wonderful bounty that Oz has bestowed upon the world … not the least of which is their very handsome guys ;) Enjoy!!

Jamie Foxx hosed a pre-Grammy party at L’Ermitage here in Los Angeles, CA last night and one of his best BFFs came out for the affair. Here are a few cute pics of Jamie with his bro Jake Gyllenhaal:
As you may recall, it was just about a year ago that we got our first look at Jakey poo starring in Jamie‘s music video for his song Blame It. It would seem that the guys have stayed homies ever since. You know, any excuse to post pics of Jake Gyllenhaal (who has been pretty much M.I.A. since his break-up with Reese Witherspoon … tho, to be honest, he kinda fell off the planet for the majority of their time together). Here’s hoping that 2010 will coax the newly single Jake out and about more often :) Seeing him at Jamie‘s pre-Grammy party last night is a good start.

First woman to ever win the 'Best Director' award at the DGAs
Congratulations are in order today for director Kathryn Bigelow, who helmed the amazing film The Hurt Locker, because last night she was honored with the award for Best Director at the 62nd Annual Directors Guild of America Awards. Not only is this award very fitting because, IMHO, her film The Hurt Locker is the best film of 2009 but Bigelow now has the distinction of being the first woman to win this award from the DGA:
Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the best director award from the Directors Guild of America on Saturday with her Iraq war thriller “The Hurt Locker,” a low-budget film gathering awards steam ahead of the Oscars. The winner of the Guild’s top award has gone on to take the best director Oscar all but six times in the last 61 years. Oscar nominations will be announced next Tuesday and “The Hurt Locker” is expected to garner several nods, including best film and best director. Bigelow beat out four other directors, including her former husband James Cameron, who had won the Golden Globe for best director this month for his mega-budget blockbuster “Avatar.” “I am so deeply stunned and honored and proud,” Bigelow told the celebrity-heavy crowd of Hollywood directors and actors. “I think we all felt a really deep responsibility to tell this story with as much honesty as possible, given the courage of the men and women in the field,” she added. “The Hurt Locker” tells the story of a three-man U.S. military bomb squad that defuses explosives amid the fighting and insurgents. Many critics consider the film to be the most accurate portrayal of the Iraq war since it began in 2003. Bigelow, also a producer of the film, used little known actors and recreated the difficult conditions of Iraq by shooting mostly in the Middle East during the summer. In the last week, the underdog film was also named best picture by the Producers Guild of America. The winner of that award has gone on to take the best picture Oscar in 13 of the past 20 years, including the two most recent events. “The Hurt Locker,” which is available on DVD after a low-key release in theaters, also won the best picture prize at the Critics Choice Awards … But when asked backstage how it felt to be the first woman to win the Directors Guild award, Bigelow played down her gender and said: “I suppose I like to think of myself as a filmmaker.”
This is FANTASTIC news! It’s crazy to think that in the entire 62 year history of the Directors Guild of America Awards, Kathryn Bigelow is only the first woman to win the Best Director top prize. Her film is truly a tour de force, I hope this win portends the way the Oscars will turn out. I would LOVE for her to also become the first woman to win the Best Director award at the Academy Awards as well. If you haven’t seen The Hurt Locker, I strongly suggest that you do … since it is now available on DVD, there is no reason not to. I honestly feel that Locker is the best film of 2009 … due, in large part, to the amazing direction by Kathryn Bigelow. Congrats to her, again!!
His Royal Hotness's 3 Day Visit
A few weeks ago Prince William made an official visit to New Zealand and Australia on behalf of the British Royal Family and this weekend we learn that his younger brother Prince Harry has made his way to the island nation of Barbados for a 3-day visit there. Prince Harry spent some time visiting with young children, making for very cute photos:
Prince Harry has shown his caring side by cuddling a baby during a visit to a Barbados hospital. The 25-year-old royal was pictured cradling the infant, aged seven weeks, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the island’s capital Bridgetown. Baby Jean-Luc Jordan was nestled in the prince’s arms as the tot’s father Michael looked on. The prince will spend time with the sick youngsters as well as staff and volunteers from the hospital. Harry is mid-way through a three-day visit to the Caribbean country where he will play in a charity polo match in aid of impoverished African children. He will take to the pitch at the exclusive Apes Hill Polo Club on Sunday to raise money for his charity Sentebale which helps orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho. He will be joined by Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, co-founder of Sentebale, at a garden party for orphaned youngsters and vulnerable children at Barbados’ national museum. The prince will tour the institution’s Africa gallery before watching a cultural performance by local entertainers. In the evening, Harry will attend a music concert in aid of the relief effort in Haiti.
That Haitian relief event took place last night and while the images of Harry with little babies and children is enough to melt your heart, the photos of him dancing his ass off on stage are just awesome. Check out those pics after the jump … More »
Janet Jackson is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Wonderland magazine and altho neither the coverstory interview nor the accompany photospread is available online (just yet), we do get to check out a fun preview of JJ in the mag:
Honestly, I’m not too keen on the cover photo because it looks like a photo she has taken many, many times before. Screaming — really, Janet? But the other preview photo that has been made available from this shoot is really cute. After the jump, check out the other photo and a short video clip that gives quick peeks of some of the other photos, too … More »
The annual event
Music mogul Clive Davis hosted his annual Pre-Grammy Gala event at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA last night bringing out a who’s who of music big wigs (as well as a very awkward pair of newlyweds who seem to have difficulty with the kissing) to celebrate Grammy weekend as only he knows how to do. Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson were among the performers at last night’s affair (you may recall that Whitney Houston was among the performers at last year’s event, kicking off her stunning musical comeback which took place later in the year). Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals along with some deets about the soiree:
It was an incongruous group. On one level were Hollywood royalty Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda, Joan and Jackie Collins. In their sights, on the next level down, were Mary J Blige, Taylor Swift, Maxwell, Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas, Keyshia, Mos Def, Nelly, Jonas Brothers, Russell Brand and his fiance Katy Perry, the Kings of Leon, Usher and Jon Bon Jovi and many others. They were seated in what is known as the ‘pit’ inside the Beverly Hilton’s international ballroom. The old guard and the new guard of Hollywood movies and rock ‘n’ roll were gathered for the annual pre-Grammy party hosted by music industry mogul Clive Davis, known as ‘golden ears’ for his ability in finding and developing music artists. Some claim the pre-Grammy bash on Saturday night is bigger, and better, than the official Grammy show on Sunday night. It’s certainly a looser affair. Celebrities knock back wine and champagne and table hop. The evening saw Mary J Blige publicly humiliate her band in front of an audience that included recording industry titans and some of the biggest names in rock. The singer lost her cool as, ironically, she was about to sing a song titled No More Drama … Diva she may be but, to be fair to Mary J. Blige, she did sing beautifully and by the time she completed her performance her behaviour towards the band was forgiven and she earned a standing ovation … The night’s most amusing sight was observing Joan Collins and sister Jackie on their feet and waving their arms as Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas performed on stage. At least they moved in time to the music. Jennifer Hudson, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in Dreamgirls, performed a string of its associated with Barbra Streisand. Beforehand Hudson joked that she was frightened she would forget the lyrics. ‘They kept changing what songs I’d sing so I had to stay focused’, Hudson told the Daily Mail. Clive Davis hailed Oscar, Grammy and Tony award winner Streisand as a ‘unique, singular artist’ who boasted a number one album in five consecutive decades. ‘She’s the movie soundtrack of our lives’, Davis said of Streisand. Other big names at the pre-Grammy gig included Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx and Harry Connick Jr. Rhianna sat at a prime table in the ‘pit’. This time last year she was seated at a similar table with Chris Brown … His name was missing from every Grammy party this weekend. However, Rhianna’s career has never been hotter and on Saturday everyone in the international ballroom queued to hug her.
Yes, as you may recall it was after Clive Davis‘s Pre-Grammy Gala last year that Brown brutally and criminally assaulted Rihanna. I’m so happy to see that Rihanna had no qualms about attending this event a year later, especially considering the horrible memories it is bound to dredge up. Grammy weekend does not get started until Clive throws his party so … it is now officially upon us. The Grammy Awards air LIVE on the East Coast starting at 8pm ET. Make sure you pick up your 3D glasses at Target so you can watch the tribute to Michael Jackson in 3D:

Yesterday was a day of highs and lows. First, it was the last day of the Under the Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe exhibit at Gallery 1988 so I was finally able to bring home the paintings that I purchased from the exhibit. My friends Emma and Josh Z. came out to see the artwork before it was all gone and they helped me bring home my paintings:
I had been planning all along where I wanted to hang my new art (Cosmo Skeletor by artist Johnny Sampson and Evil by artist Dave Crosland) … I was very happy and excited to get them on display in our home :)
Last night, David and I made our way out to Beachwood in Marina Del Rey, CA to attend our dear friend Kirsten’s going away party. While it was a fun soiree full of great people, it was very sad to say goodbye to my dear KiKi. After the jump, check out some of our photos from the night’s festivities … More »

"I'm almost done with the first draft"
In a new very long, very interesting interview about his CW TV show The Vampire Diaries (which I really love, btw), Kevin Williamson talks a bit about his progress on the script for the much anticipated sequel film Scream 4. Back in November, we heard a little bit about plans for the film from Scream star Neve Campbell but in this new interview, Williamson explains just where in the creative process he is for the film:
Q: Are you working on any film projects right now?
Kevin: I’m almost done with the first draft of Scream 4. I’m trying to get that together for Wes Craven. We’ve got to get going on that, during the hiatus. We have Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Dave Arquette. I was always holding out hope because the pitch was about those three characters. I didn’t want to have to re-route the whole story. We don’t have to do that. I can do it exactly the way I want wanted. The story is going to be told the way I originally conceived it.
Q: Is that going to be part of a new trilogy?
Kevin: I’ve been contracted to write Scream 4 and 5.
Q: That’s not a trilogy.
Kevin: Well, I’m not going to negotiate 6 right away.
Q: Horror films have undergone another shift, with the success of Paranormal Activity. Do you have a chance to update references to that in there?
Kevin: It’s all in there.
Q: Would you shoot Scream 4 in the Atlanta area?
Kevin: I’d love to. When I went down there, I said, “This is so Woodsboro.” It would be perfect, but that’s Wes’ decision. Pasadena would work, too. If Wes directs, and he will if I have anything to say about it, I’ll camp out at his house.
Q: What do you think it will take to get Wes Craven to come back and direct?
Kevin: Oh, Wes is going to do it.
Woot!! This all sounds really great. Okay, so we know that Wes Craven is directing Scream 4 and we will deffo be getting Scream 5 … but what about those rumors that part 4 will be presented in 3D? Read on, the interview continues after the jump … More »
Madonna's oldest kid likes his toys
Jesus Luz, who just recently celebrated his 23rd birthday, spent some time tooling around Ipanema Beach in Brazil this week on a new motorized skateboard all by his lonesome. It’s entirely possible that this new toy was a gift from his older ladyfriend Madonna because we know that she loves to shower her children with these kinds of toys. Here are a few pics of Jesus on the move:
Boys and their toys … ain’t this just so cute? Since Jesus can’t be with Madonna right now, it looks like he’s content to skate away his woes and act his age. A youth … ain’t it grand?

You Look So Fine
Matthew McConaughey, who gave us our first look at his newborn daughter Vida Alves yesterday, took some time out of his bizzy daddy duties to get all gussied up for a beach photoshoot in Malibu, CA this week. Matthew, lookin’ fine in a fancy tux, posed for a new Hugo Boss ad campaign … behold:
Since we all know that Matthew is very fond of dressing down (on a seemingly daily basis) it’s nice to see him lookin’ all sharp and shizz in a tuxedo. The only time we really see Matthew lookin’ this dressed up is when he’s acting as spokesmodel for Hugo Boss. It’s a good look for him, I think. It’s a shame we don’t get to see more of this Matthew.

"REMEMBER CLOTHING IS A CHOICE. WE WERE BORN NAKED!!!"
Kanye West has posted a new blogpost on his official website to address the “haters” that voice their opinions on his style choices and fashion sense. Kanye and his model girlfriend Amber Rose have been making the rounds at European Fashion Weeks as of late and decided he has read enough criticism about his love of fashion without issuing a reply. Here is the full text of his latest blog rant. All of the language, misspellings and capitalizations are Kanye‘s alone:
WHEN IT’S ALL SAID AND DONE, REMEMBER THE FEARLESS, REMEMBER THE DREAMERS, REMEMBER THOSE WHO REPRESENT THE GHETTO…THE FAIRY TALE OF NOTHING TO SOMETHING. I’M BRIEFLY SADDENED BY NEGATIVE COMMENTS, BUT I HAVE TO REMEMBER THOSE PEOPLE ARE SCARED, INCAPABLE OR JUST PLAIN IDIOTS. WE ARE THE FUCKING ROCK STARS BABY. NO COCAINE, JUST LIFE MY N****S!! NO COCAINE, JUST LIFE! IT’S FUNNY TO ME WHEN FASHION BLOGGERS DOWN OUR OUFITS AND THEN SUPER JOCK OUTLANDISH SHIT ON THE RUNWAY BUT THEN THEY DRESS MAD PRUDE AND DON’T LIVE FASHION. WE LIVE IT MAN. FUCK THAT, WE LIVE IT!!! WE LIVE IT SO HARD PEOPLE LIVE THROUGH US! WE REPRESENT YOUR INNER SPIRIT!! THE CHILD IN US ALL, THE BRUTAL HONESTY, THE NAIVETY, THE BRAVE WARRIOR, THE ADRENALINE THAT ALLOWS A MOTHER TO LIFT A CAR IF HER CHILD WAS TRAPPED UNDER IT! REMEMBER, THERE WAS A TIME WHEN EVERYBODY DISSED MICHAEL JACKSON EVERY CHANCE THEY COULD. IMAGINE THE PRESSURE OF BEING A TRUE ICON. VERY FEW HUMAN BEINGS ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE CONSTANT HATE!!! IF WE DON’T DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS THE SHIT, YOU BEAT US UP VERBALLY AND MENTALLY, LIKE A CATHOLIC SCHOOL TEACHER BEATING A CREATIVE STUDENT INTO SUBMISSION. I CAN HEAR YOU SCREAMING ‘COLOR INSIDE THE LINES!!!’ WELL FUCK YOUR COLORING BOOK, COLOR BY NUMBERS APPROACH TO LIFE. AT THE END OF THE DAY WHO ARE WE HURTING??? OH “THE NEW BLACK???” SINCE BARACK IS PRESIDENT BLACKS DON’T LIKE FUR COATS, RED LEATHER, AND FRIED CHICKEN ANY MORE?! WHEN YOU TRULY UNDERSTAND CULTURAL SETTINGS, BOUNDARIES, AND OUR MODERN DAY CASTE SYSTEMS, THEN YOU CAN FEEL THE GLORY AND PAIN FROM THE DAYS OF KINGS IN AFRICA TO THE NEW KINGS OF THE MEDIA. LET THE BALL PLAYERS DANCE AFTER THEY SCORE! IT’S LIFE MY N****S, IT’S LIFE! REMEMBER CLOTHING IS A CHOICE. WE WERE BORN NAKED!!! FRESH IS AN OPINION, LOVE IS OBJECTIVE, TASTE IS SELECTIVE, AND EXPRESSION IS MY FAVORITE ELECTIVE. NO MORE POLITICS OR APOLOGIES!!!
To be honest, I kinda agree with this treatise on conformity. Love him or hate him, Kanye does live his life openly and boldly expresses himself whenever possible. A lot of times he does it in a rude, disrespectful and unruly manner … behavior I am loathe to condone. But I do give him props for his bold love of fashion because he does not adhere to the constraints of conformity. I would prefer he relegate his ranting to this sort of thing rather than anything else. The boy does love fashion … and he is not ashamed to let everyone know about it.

It's a done deal
MTV issued a press release happily announcing that the entire cast of Jersey Shore has agreed to return for season 2 this coming Summer. As you may recall, we learned early last week that negotiations were coming down to the wire between the cast and the network and just a few days ago reported that 2 of the castmembers had already agreed to MTV‘s final offer of $10,000 per episode, per castmember. It appears that the rest of the cast fell right in line and took the deal that MTV offered them … meaning that they will be back for a whole new season of fist pumping fun:
Fans continue to demand more “Jersey Shore” as MTV’s breakout hit series will return for a second season this summer with 12 new episodes, it was announced today by MTV President of Programming, Tony DiSanto. Following the success of season one, Pauly D, Mike, Snooki, Jenni, Sammi, Ronnie and Vinny escape the cold Northeast and find themselves in a new destination. “Our audience has fallen in love with ‘Jersey Shore’ and its amazing cast who have really grown together as a family. That bond gives the show its heart, and we’re thrilled to reunite these friends to bring fans more of what they love — laughs, love, drama and of course, GTL,” said Tony DiSanto, President of Programming for MTV. “Jersey Shore” is January’s #1 original cable series among P12-34. The season one finale (1/21/10) broke series records, delivering a 4.8 rating and ranking #1 for the day across all television competition in the P12-34 demo. The series posted phenomenal growth all season long with the finale audience more than triple the series debut. Fans can catch up on the complete first season as MTV airs the “Jersey Bowl” marathon leading up to the Super Bowl kick-off on Sunday, February 7th beginning at 9am ET/6am PT.
TMZ reports that the final matter to be resolved is not an issue of salary (I understand the $10k per ep deal is set) but an issue of how many public appearances the castmembers can make outside of appearing on the show:
We’re told one of the terms the lawyers are hammering out is the number of appearances the cast can make outside the show. Cast members — especially Snooki, Pauly D and The Situation — want the right to appear at as many as four clubs and other venues a week … where they’ve been raking in good money in appearance fees.
That sounds like a reasonable issue to me. While MTV seems firm on the money they want to pay out to the cast, there shouldn’t be any reason they can’t make public appearances from which they get paid as well. In the end, it sounds like the deal is win-win for everyone. It also makes sense that MTV would want to move the cast to a new locale … so they can film this Spring and air it this Summer (rather than film over the Summer in New Jersey). While I personally still think that an entire new cast of people should be featured in season 2, I can see how MTV prolly doesn’t want to rock the boat with their surprise hit show. The name Jersey Shore won’t make sense anymore tho … I wonder if they plan to change it. The question remains at to whether or not exiled castmember Angelina Jolie Pivarnick will be brought back for season 2. If I were her, I wouldn’t be packing my trash bags for a return trip to the proverbial Jersey Shore just yet.

Work, Pleasure or Both?
Yesterday we saw photos of Britney Spears, agent/beau Jason Trawick and mini-entourage making their way thru LAX Airport here in LA bound for destination unknown. Today we learn that Britwick made their way to Miami, FL together … possibly for both work and personal reasons. Here are pics of the couple as they made their arrival at Miami International Airport late last night:
I understand that Britney may be in Miami this weekend to do some work on her new album but I have no doubt that she and Jason will find some time to relax together, possibly by the pool … probably someplace more intimate. Here’s hoping they have themselves a fantastic weekend of successful work and happy pleasure.

Trainwreck du jour Tila Tequila, who claims that she is pregs with her first child, stepped out to do a bit of shopping here in LA yesterday with her “baby” in tow. A blonde-wigged Tila showed up at Kitson boutique to peruse the baby clothes that were on display … making sure to pose for pictures at every opportunity:
I guess when she’s not tweeting her autobiography, she’s playing dress up in boutiques around town. I think it’s safe to assume that when a trainwrecky personality decides to wear a wig in public, things may not be on the mental up and up. I’m still not entirely convinced that she’s actually lost her mind … I still contend that she is doing all of this wacky, attention-seeking bullshizz merely for the headlines. I also do not believe that she is actually pregs. This plastic baby might be the closest thing to a child that Tila Tequila may ever claim ownership of … and for that, I am extremely grateful.

Yesterday we saw David Beckham on the cover and in the pages of 10 magazine (men) and today we get to see wifey Victoria Beckham on the matching cover of 10 magazine (women). In her coverstory interview, VB talks about dress sizes … and how she and Jennifer Lopez supposedly wear the same size — or some such nonsense:
Victoria Beckham has claimed she’s the same dress size as curvy star Jennifer Lopez. The former Spice Girl is often criticised for her skinny body but in new shots for 10 Magazine she looks unusually curvy. And speaking about her fashion range VB said: “My dresses are for women of all different shapes and sizes. “Actually, the one I tried on yesterday was the one Jennifer wore. And who’d have thought I’d be the same size as Jennifer Lopez!” And after rumours that she is now focused on TV work Posh says she plans to stay in fashion. She told 10: “I still plan to be doing this in 10, 15, 20 years time, so it’s got to be done right.” David Beckham also appears in the same edition of the magazine.
Hurray!! 10, 15, 20 more years of robotic mayhem! Well, if she plans on doing this for the next 20 or so years, I guess she should be commended for working towards longevity. I wish her all the luck in the world. After the jump, check out some of VB‘s 10 magazine photos from her accompanying spread … More »

Never say Nevermore
This post is for a particular segment of my readership who, like me, remember an amazing singer from the mid-90s named POE who released two effing fantastic albums (Hello and Haunted ) but has been silent for the past 10 years. Without going into the long, drawn out explanation of her hiatus, I’ll just say that due to legal restrictions placed on her by an ironclad legal contract, POE was unable to create or perform music for the past decade (well, officially … POE has done a few things here and there in that time but not in any significant or profitable way). But, at long last, POE has been freed from her legal restraints and she is ready to make her long overdue return to the music scene. In fact, POE performed at a benefit concert here in LA last night … with her old band, just like the good ol’ days:
Remember Poe? The erudite singer-songwriter burst on the scene in the late-’90s, scoring a massive hit with the single ‘Angry Johnny,’ the catchy track with the refrain, “I wanna kill you/I wanna blow you … away.” She followed that up a few years later with the critically-acclaimed album, ‘Haunted,’ a superb concept record about her relationship with her late father. With two albums, a hit single and strong reviews, Poe seemed to be on her way. And then, poof — she seemilngly disappeared. So what happened? “What I would say, in a nutshell, is very short and sweet: Myself as an artist was purchased as if a slave by a Texas oilman,” she tells Spinner, adding her first contract was bought out by this businessman. “I have not gone a day without doing music. I’ve just done it anonymously. It’s not like I haven’t been playing — I’ve played parties and this and that — but anything that was way under the radar. I lived like an illegal immigrant for 10 years. I couldn’t make any money, couldn’t do anything.” Nearly a decade later, after a legal battle to match any music industry horror story, she is finally ready to re-emerge. “I feel as though I have been in a grave, not dead, but I’ve been spitting dirt out of my mouth for 10 years. I would say a month ago I saw the first ray of sunlight,” she says. What was that sunlight? “Honestly, the key element [is] out of complete accident I played with my old band again. I’d been in the studio writing and recording and it was like that missing piece of ‘I got my bros back, I remember what this feels like and I’m alive again’” … “It feels good to be playing again. The fact I can shortly be doing this with new material is pretty damn exciting,” she says … “I’m not gonna give a firm deadline, but within the next month or so we’ll create a release date for something new.” On top of that, she promises to explain in much greater detail where she’s been for the last decade. “I could give you 10 years of facts and figures, but my job as an artist is to show you the footprints that were left on my soul,” she says. “And that I can show you in music, so the best recount of really what transpired is ultimately in these songs.”
Damn! At last!! I have been a huge fan of POE since day one … no lie, the only time I ever performed on stage with a band in an arena full of fans was with POE in Tulsa, OK back in 1996. My friend Mike and I met her when she toured in the Oklahoma area (when I was in college) and we became fast friends. She asked us to perform on stage with her during her song Trigger Happy Jack (essentially, we ran around the stage with megaphones screaming our heads off) and then we lept into the crowd and crowd surfed away — it was a blast :) POE then released her album Haunted which was a soundtrack of sorts to her brother Mark Z. Danielewski‘s amazing book House of Leaves (which remains one of my fave books of all time) and then … she was gone. My friend Tony (who is an exboyfriend of mine that I met because of our mutual love of POE) attended her live performance here in LA last night and he sends along some photos from her gig. "I felt it was ... unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t."
Nicole Richie, fashion/jewelry designer and mother of two extraordinaire, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of British Marie Claire magazine. In her coverstory interview, Nicole opens up about the allegations that she previously suffered from an eating disorder … allegations she calls “insulting and irritating”. Here is Nicole‘s MC coverphoto and some excerpts from her coverstory interview:
These sizzling pictures of Nicole Richie give little clue to the weight issues which have plague her recent years. With a tiny Size Zero frame giving her a severe case of ‘lollipop head’ syndrome, fans had become concerned for her health, insisting she had become too thin. But Nicole, who is at her curviest best after having two children with boyfriend Joel Madden, has come forward to reassure fans she has always been healthy. The 28-year-old also took the opportunity to blast critics who had accused her of suffering from an eating disorder. She said: ‘I felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t. It’s extremely insulting and irresponsible. ‘An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease.’ The reality television star, who is the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, dropped to Size Zero before falling pregnant with her first child. At her skinniest, she was pictured on a beach in 2006 and became the reluctant poster girl for Hollywood’s obsession with weight loss. But since daughter Harlow’s arrival nearly two years ago, she has looked altogether healthier. Her second child, son, Sparrow, was born four months ago and Mother Nature’s impact has been even more dramatic. Nicole previously revealed she is naturally skinny, and sometimes finds it difficult to put on weight. The full interview with Nicole appears in the March issue of Marie Claire magazine She said: ‘I think when you see me in person, you see that I’m, like, five foot one – I’m a small person. When I was heavier, everyone said I was too heavy. You can’t win in the public eye and I find it really hard. So I ignore it now, I really do. The only time it bothered me was when I was in a store trying on shoes and these girls came up to me – they were probably like 13 or 14 – and their mother came over, and she said, “Are you taking care of yourself, because my girls think that you’re not.” That was upsetting.’ Nicole is currently preparing to kickstart her acting career as the star of a new TV sitcom … Nicole will return to the small screen for a half-hour show, which she pitched to bosses at U.S. channel ABC earlier this year. She will also produce the series, in which she stars as a working woman juggling her family and love life.
Irregardless of what Nicole used to look like (and let’s be honest, she was really thin), she looks fantastic these days … motherhood really seems to agree with her. She’s never looked better, never looked happier and I couldn’t be more thrilled at her success at life. I really admire the way she has matured, she is truly a woman that young girls can look up to. After the jump, check out a few more photos from Nicole‘s Marie Claire magazine photospread … More »
Like Father like Son
Romeo James appears to be following in his father David Beckham‘s love of tattoos footsteps. As we all know, Becks is very fond of gettin’ new tattoos … it would seen that his middle son Romeo likes getting new tattoos, too:
With both their father and mother covered in tattoos, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the three Beckham boys followed suit. But at just seven years old, Romeo might have been expected to wait a while longer. David and Victoria’s middle son proudly showed off his new marking on an after-school trip to buy frozen yoghurt with his mother and maternal grandparents yesterday. Of course the indistinct design indicates that the tattoo is a temporary version, easily removed with soap and water and a lot of scrubbing. But his appreciation of tattoos – even the fake kind – might be a bit of a worry, and will surely see him follow in his father’s heavily tattooed footsteps. Footballer David has already admitted that his sons are keen to be inked. ‘One of them said to me recently: “How old do I have to be before I get a my first tattoo.”,’ he revealed. ‘I was like “A lot older than you are now.”‘ David himself has 20 separate pieces of body art, and is said to be keen to completely cover his arms in tattoo ‘sleeves’. The football ace – who is currently on load to AC Milan – was said to have been inspired by Prison Break actor Wentworth Miller’s character, fugitive Michael Scofield.
I have no doubt that Becks‘s sons idolize him, as most sons do of their fathers, so to think that they would love to follow his example seems completely natural. I fully expect at least one of his sons to try their hand at professional soccer and one or more of them to get tattooed at their first opportunity. These little guys are growing up so fast … it won’t be long until we are hearing reports of real tattoos for the Beckham boys.

Act your age
The sequel film Sex and the City 2 may have just finished filming and is due for release in theaters in about 3 months but plans are reportedly already in the works for filming to begin on Sex and the City 3. Because the principal stars — Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis — aren’t getting any younger, it is being reported that producers want to get the third movie filmed before the ladies get any older-looking:
The four stars of Sex And The City will shoot a third film before they get too old- according to reports. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis recently wrapped finishing filming on the first sequel to the hit New York set movie. And a source told The Sun they’re not done yet: “There is also a third movie on the go… It makes sense to film the second and third movies back to back. “The characters will look a lot younger on screen when the third movie is out in couple of years. They’re keen to look as young as possible because that movie will be their last.” Sex And The City 2 is currently scheduled for release this May.
GAHHH! I mean, if these rumors are true, it’s great news that we’ll deffo be getting SaTC 3 … but it’s bummer news that the third sequel film may be the last. It makes sense that they would want to make 3 films altogether but I’m not too keen on a total, absolute end of the Sex and the City franchise. I guess we should wait to hear more, from someone in an official capacity, but all of this totally makes sense. What do y’all think … does this sound like a plausible way to really send the Sex and the City franchise?

The late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, will be honored at the Grammy Awards this Sunday night with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and it has been announced that his eldest children (with mother Debbie Rowe), Prince Michael Joseph and Paris Michael Katherine, will appear on stage to accept the award on his behalf:
Michael Jackson’s two eldest children are scheduled to take the stage this weekend to accept the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their father, Jackson family sources said. It would be the first public appearance for Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, since their dramatic appearance at the memorial service 12 days after their father’s death. “The whole world is waiting to see these children blossom,” said Brian Oxman, a lawyer for Joe Jackson. Two sources close to the family said the youngest, 7-year-old Blanket, was not expected to appear, although they suggested that might change. Contrary to some media reports, the sources said there was no plan for the children to sing or dance at the show. The Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards, will honor the late pop star with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Special Merit Awards ceremony Saturday evening in Los Angeles. Video of the presentation is likely to be included in Sunday night’s musical tribute to Jackson during the Grammy telecast, the sources said. While Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, is expected to attend, Joe Jackson, his father, decided not to go because of his anger over the behind-the-scenes talks that led to the agreement to have the children accept the award, family sources said. The decision came just this week, after Katherine Jackson, the legal guardian of the children, complained to Grammy producers that no family members had been invited, the Jackson sources said. Two sources in the family said that she was initially told by producers that the estate’s special administrators would decide who would take part in the Jackson tribute. “Can you believe this crap?” one source quoted Joe Jackson as saying when he heard that. The Grammy producers have not responded to a CNN request for comment. A spokesman for the estate administrators said the matter was for Grammy producers to decide.
Aww … poor Blanket. I’m guessing that he’ll be there with his older siblings, too. While I think this is a great opportunity for MJ‘s children to step in on his behalf, you know that Grammy producers just want those kids on stage to attract higher ratings for the show (Oh, and Joe Jackson is an ass). Remember, there will be a tribute portion of the show devoted to Jackson that will be broadcast on TV in 3D. I understand that Target is giving away free 3D glasses for the event. The Grammy Awards air LIVE this Sunday night.
2nd arrest in 1 month, 3rd arrest in 1 year
The long arm of the law has reached out and embraced Michael Lohan again, for the second time in about a month and for the third time in under a year. In April of 2009, Lohan was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his then fiancée Erin Mueller and then in December of 2009 he was arrested, again, for violating a restraining order placed on him by Mueller. Today we learn that Daddy Lohan clearly hasn’t learned his lesson because he violated that same restraining order again by calling ex-fiancée Erin Mueller … so he was arrested, yet again:
Michael Lohan was arrested again today after another incident involving his ex girlfriend Erin Muller — and once again, the phone is the central issue. According to Erin’s attorney Bryan Konoski, Lindsay Lohan’s father allegedly called Erin at work on January 21 — a violation of Erin’s restraining order against him. Nassau County Police Department tells TMZ Michael was arrested today and booked for criminal contempt. If this sounds familiar … Michael was arrested back in December for the exact same thing. Mike is due in court on February 25.
Idiot. He *must* like being arrested because I can’t think of any other reason why he could continue to call someone who obviously wants nothing to do with him (join the club, Erin) in violation of a restraining order. In my eyes, this is great news … the more time Lohan spends behind bars the less time he has to be free to spread his douchebaggery on the unsuspecting public. It’s a shame he can’t be locked up and totally forgotten about. Ugh.

Where, oh, where could they be going?
Britney Spears, her agent/beau Jason Trawick and her mini entourage (including her assistant Brett Miller and her fave bald personal body guard) showed up at LAX Airport today on their way out of town together … any guesses where Britwick may turn up?
As you may recall, Britney went and got her nails did earlier this week and now we know why … homegirl was prepping for a little trip. Could the happy couple be headed for NYC? Perhaps Louisiana to visit her mother, sister and niece? Mebbe they are jetting off to someplace more tropical and vacationy. Or Las Vegas? I guess we’ll have to wait and see where they end up … where do YOU think these two are sneaking off to?

Another song from the 'Tron: Legacy' soundtrack, or another fake?
Last Saturday we got our first listen to a purported new song titled Fragile from Daft Punk which is reported to be a leak from the upcoming soundtrack to the Disney sequel film Tron: Legacy. It has since been suggested that the track is not a new Daft Punk song and may not be from the Tron 2 soundtrack at all. Today a new track has come to light, titled The Crash … again, it is being reported that the song is a leak from the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy:
On the heels of the now-debunked “Fragile” comes “the Crash”, yet another alleged track from Daft Punk’s much-anticipated Tron 2 score. Clocking in at over 12 minutes and–more importantly–pretty damn good, “the Crash” is either the real deal or the work of someone who should probably be releasing music under his own name. It’s worth a spin either way.
The song has that same dreamy feel that Fragile does … whether or not this “new” song is a Tron track remains to be seen. Listen to it in full, after the jump … More »
Bradley Cooper comes to her aid
Uh oh!! Poor Renée Zellweger got herself into a little fender bender as she was trying to leave rumored boyfriend Bradley Cooper‘s place in Pacific Palisades, CA earlier today. When last we saw Bradlée, they were traveling together in Vancouver, BC last October but they have since tried to keep their creepin’ on the downlow. It would seem that Renée was, again, tryin’ to keep her creepover at Bradley‘s a secret … but unfortch this minor car accident brought all the paparazzi to the yard:
So is Renée Zellweger a bad driver or does she just have bad luck behind the wheel? The fender-bender-plagued star was in yet another bust-up earlier today, this time after she was trying to make her getaway from Bradley Cooper’s home in the Pacific Palisades. And like the crash in August, this one also wasn’t her fault. Dressed in workout gear, the actress was climbing into her black Prius when a passing SUV smashed into her open car door. As for the once (and future?) Bridget Jones… She’s just fine. The sideswiper just barely missed her. The older woman who managed the near miss pulled over and the two began swapping essential details. “They got out, [Renée] took pictures of the damage, they exchanged information,” an eyewitness tells E! News. “She didn’t seem upset. She was in good spirits with the person.” The source claims the police were not called to the scene. Following the incident, Cooper came to the rescue and the pair left the banged-up car parked on the street.
MMM HMMM. So Renée is wearing “workout gear” as she left Bradley Cooper‘s home in the early morning hours. Her car may have gotten banged on the street but I think we can guess what got banged the night before … oh yeah, you know they were knockin’ boots! I guess we can safely assume that Bradlée are an actual couple now. When a guy comes running after a woman gets into a car accident, you know it’s true love :)

Today we get to see a couple new promo photos of Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts:

"I still feel quite shy when I see [my] poster or campaign"
David Beckham is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of 10 magazine (men) wherein he talks a bit about how shy he gets when he sees large posters/billboards/banners that feature his massive bulge packed tightly into Emporio Armani underwear:
Most people would be ecstatic to look half as good as David Beckham does on those enormous, half-naked billboards. But for the soccer star, it just makes him uncomfortable. “I still feel quite shy when I see a poster or campaign like that,” he tells 10 magazine of his steamy ads, most notably his Emporio Armani underwear campaign. He adds, “It was a daunting experience stripping off in front of a room of people but after a while you get used to it — although my mum still hasn’t.” Although the 34-year-old athlete maintains that his “priority has always been my football career over anything else,” he does admit to having fun getting photographed. “I’ve done quite a few shoots and you can have fun doing them,” he says. “I’m a footballer and that’s where I’m most comfortable, but I’ve enjoyed working with some great photographers over the years.”
Yeah, shy, whatevs. I mean, yes … I believe that he gets shy sometimes but there is no way he’s not used to it by now. The man gets as nekkid as he can at almost every soccer game he plays and he’s been strippin’ down to his skivvies in public for years now. Sayin’ he gets all shy, tho, makes a good story. After the jump, check out some pics from Becks‘s 10 magazine photospread to see just how shy he really is … More »
The TV Guide
Last night David and I made our way out to Club Nokia in LA Live in downtown Los Angeles, CA to see The Pee Wee Herman Show live on stage. David got us tickets a few months ago and it turns out he got us front row center seats!!
The last two photos are not mine, I found them on Twitter because from our vantage point, we could not sneak cameraphone pics at all. The show is basically a live action version of the famed Pee Wee’s Playhouse TV show with all of the characters we know and love from the show. We had a blast!! To be honest, tho, this show is really for fans of the TV show. The fun came from remembering how much you loved the show as a kid … the humor, by today’s standards, is very tame. It’s deffo a must see if you are a Pee Wee Herman fan. The theater was full of adults, clearly the target audience ;)
Oh and the secret word of the day was: Fun!
We had a blast.
Tonight, David and I will be call in guests on KNEWS FM 94.3 here in SoCal (you can listen online HERE) at 9PM PT and you can call in with questions as well (1-888-589-6397). Our friend and author Christopher Rice is hosting the show and we’re gonna help him talk about pop culture stuff. Should be fun :)
UPDATE: Anne Rice just announced that she will also be a guest on Christoper‘s show at 7PM PT on KNEWS 94.3 tonight!! Now you have to tune in!!

“Make the compassionate decision to use an animatronic Phil"
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have fired off a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club yesterday in an effort to try and convince the folks who hold the annual Groundhog Day unveiling of Punxsutawney Phil to use a robotic groundhog instead of the real little groundhog. PETA claims that the groundhog day tradition of putting Punxsutawney Phil on display is cruel:
The animal rights group PETA says Punxsutawney Phil is being badly treated by the crowds and noise at the annual Groundhog Day festival on Feb. 2 and should be replaced with a robotic groundhog . Gemma Vaughan, Animals in Entertainment specialist for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said in a letter to organizers of the annual spectacle in Punxsutawney, PA, that groundhogs, which are normally shy and spend much of their time in burrows, “become stressed when they are exposed to large, screaming crowds; flashing lights from perhaps hundreds of cameras; and human handling.” Vaughan suggests using “animatronic animals” instead. Bill Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, said in response that Phil is “being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania.” He notes that Phil is kept in a climate-controlled environment and is inspected annually by the state Department of Agriculture, the Associated Press reports. Deeley suggests PETA is looking for publicity.
Yes, I would agree that PETA is merely using this opportunity to garner a little publicity for themselves. While I think a robotic groundhog would be pretty cool (especially if it shot lasers from it’s eyeballs), I am pretty certain that Punxsutawney Phil is prolly treated fairly well (tho, it’s disheartening to hear that he may be treated “better than the average child in Pennsylvania”). After the jump, read the full letter sent by PETA calling for the humane creation of an animatronic groundhog … More »
Here are a few photos of hottie Ryan Phillippe taking a quick jog in Beverly Hills, CA after emerging from the Neil George Salon yesterday afternoon. It’s unclear what sort of pampering Ryan enjoyed at the salon but whatever it was, he sure looked good as a result:
Oh, who am I kidding … Ryan looks good no matter what he’s doing or where he’s going. If he’s just standing around trying to raise money for Haiti, he looks hot. If he’s hobbling out of the store with his ladyfriend Abbie Cornish, he looks hot. If he’s just crossing the street, he looks hot. Le sigh.

While ABC has decided to cancel Ugly Betty, they are still in full support of new show Cougar Town which continues to film new episodes this week here in SoCal. Last month we saw photos of star Courteney Cox-Arquette filming scenes with co-star Christa Miller and today we get to see new pics from the set of CT. In these pics, Courteney is lookin’ fly on a motorcycle with, what looks to be, co-star Brian Van Holt:
LOL. I know I’m such a geek but I LOVE Cougar Town ;) The show never ceases to make me laugh and David and I make it a point to watch the show together every week. I keep telling David that he will prolly grow up to look like Jules‘s ex-hubby Bobby (Van Holt, pictured here with Cox-Arquette on the motorcycle) mostly in looks rather than behavior (tho, I could see David living on a boat in a drive way some day). I’m glad to see that new eps of this show continue to be filmed ;)

JWoww & Ronnie take MTV's offer, the others hold out for more
First we learned that the cast of Jersey Shore were banding together Friends style to try and force MTV to pay them more money per episode to return for season 2 of their show and then we learned that MTV decided that they were not interested in the cast’s salary demands and are willing to pay them each $10,000 per episode and not a penny more. Today we learn that two members of the Jersey Shore cast, Jenni Jwoww Farley and Ronnie Magro, have decided to take MTV‘s offer and will return for season 2 … the rest of the cast are still holding out for more money:
Two of the cast members of “Jersey Shore” have agreed to MTV’s offer of $10,000 an episode, but the others are still holding out … sources connected to the negotiations tell TMZ. Ronnie and J-WOWW have accepted MTV’s offer. A well-placed MTV source tells TMZ the network is drawing a hard line at the close of business tomorrow — the rest of the cast members must either accept the offer or MTV replaces them. Earlier in the week we told you MTV’s original deadline was Monday night — but the network continued negotiations and now they say it’s do or die.
I had a feeling that these jokers wouldn’t band together as a single unit when push came to shove. I suspect that now that Jwoww and Ronnie have caved to MTV‘s final offer other castmembers will take the deal as well. In the end, they have no choice. If they refuse, they will be cast aside and forgotten … just like original castmember Angelina Jolie Pivarnick. Her dumb ass walked off the show after 2 eps and is prolly kicking herself for being so stupid. I bet she’d return for season 2 for free if MTV will have her. Altho I think other castmembers will take the deal I wouldn’t at all be surprised if at least one of these egotistical morons turned down the deal in the hopes of getting more money from someone else. It remains to be seen what Jersey Shore: Season 2 will look like cast-wise but it sounds like MTV is finished playing around. We should know very soon who is in … and who may be out.
LeEddie do 'Poker Face'
LeAnn Rimes and her extramarital lover Eddie Cibrian made a surprise appearance together at a bar called Tail Feathers in Henderson, CO this week to enjoy a night of karaoke (after the pair originally stopped to use the bathroom). Apparently LeAnn sang (natch) while Eddie clapped along in unison after :
LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian turned an emergency bathroom break into a karaoke party last Saturday — and we’re told they didn’t leave until Rimes paid homage to Lady Gaga. The owners of Tail Feathers bar in Henderson, CO tell TMZ the country singer originally popped in to hit the head, but the bar was so much fun that she and her boyfriend decided to stick around for cocktails. Before hitting the road, Rimes entertained the crowd by hopping up on stage and belting out Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” — as Eddie bopped along in the front row.
OY! Well, these two appear to be going strong … even after they each split from their respective spouses, it seems like they are really making a go of their relationship. Some friends and I saw LeEddie together and very smoochy at Universal Studios last October and I understand the pair have been traveling together to fun places like this ever since. After the jump, check out video of LeAnn‘s performance of Poker Face at Tail Feathers this week — in case you are interested/curious … More »
Calls the NBC late night fiasco a "huge mess"
Jay Leno taped an interview with Oprah Winfrey for The Oprah Winfrey Show this week, scheduled to air today (check your local listings), and in just released quotes from the interview, Leno opens up about his side of the story concerning the late night TV shake-up that is going on at NBC right now. As you may recall, Conan O’Brien hosted his last episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien last week and, after the 2010 Winter Olympics are finished, Leno will be returning to his old gig as host of The Tonight Show. Here is a promo pic from Oprah‘s interview with Jay Leno and some pull quotes from their chat:
Jay Leno tells Oprah Winfrey that he hasn’t spoken to Conan O’Brien throughout the recent contentious negotiations over “The Tonight Show.” In quotes provided Wednesday by Harpo Productions, Leno tells Winfrey that “it didn’t seem appropriate” to speak to O’Brien. But Leno says the two comedians might talk when “things cool down.” NBC unseated O’Brien and moved Leno back to the program he had hosted for 17 years. Leno is scheduled to return to “Tonight” on March 1. In a video previewing “The Oprah Winfrey Show” interview, Leno says: “This whole thing was a huge mess.” Leno’s interview is slated to air Thursday. Harpo Productions made an offer for O’Brien to appear on her show, but it hasn’t been confirmed.
I know that Jay Leno has looked like the villain in all of this mess but I don’t personally hold him responsible as the bad guy. Let’s be honest here, NBC is the one at fault for all the mess. I’m glad that Jay will be in Oprah‘s “hot seat” and will able to give his side of the story. After the jump, check out a video promo for his appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show today … More »
Not as awkwardly painful to watch
Yesterday we watched a (painful to watch due to extreme awkwardness) short video of Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart participating in a Q&A session after the Sundance Film Festival screening of their film The Runways and today we get to watch another video interview with the ladies. Thankfully, this vid is not as painful to watch … tho, K. Stew still seems a bit jittery in the clip:

And another TV series bites the dust … Entertainment Weekly is reporting the bad news that ABC has announced the cancellation of Ugly Betty. I, personally, stopped watching the show ages ago but I know that there will be many fans very upset by this news. David is an Ugly Betty fan and he is pretty bummed. Read on for the sad deets:
ABC has just informed Ugly Betty producers that the show’s current fourth season will be its last. What’s more, the network has trimmed the show’s episode order from 22 to 20. Although not a complete shock given the show’s heinous ratings, the news is nonetheless a total bummer — particularly in light of Betty’s creative resurgence this season. The good news is that ABC has given Betty’s bosses enough time to craft a satisfying series finale. Exec producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson confirmed as much in this joint statement: “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”
Yeah, I don’t know that the “good news” is that producers have enough time to “craft a satisfying series finale” … but, c’est la vie. Well, actually, c’est la mort. I understand Betty suffered when ABC exiled it to Friday nights and many believed the network’s decision to move it from Fridays would be its saving grace. I guess not. Even tho I’ve not been a Betty fan for some time, I’ll admit that I’m bummed at the show’s cancellation. Any Betty fans out there upset by this news? You can figuratively pour one out for Ugly Betty in the comments below.

Best headline of my life: "Trachtenberg Likes Dicks."
Michelle Trachtenberg — star of films like EuroTrip, Mysterious Skin, Black Christmas, 17 Again and TV shows like Gossip Girl, Mercy and the famed Buffy the Vampire Slayer — is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Complex magazine. In her coverstory interview, Michelle talks about her new film A Couple of Dicks and even talks BtVS but it’s her Complex photospread that is really the eye catcher. Here is her coverphoto and some excerpts from her coverstory interview:
Michelle has been playing with sweets since the age of 3, when she spilled cranberry juice for a Wisk commercial. Thankfully, she managed to steer clear of sugary 30-second purgatory to firmly plant herself in the pop consciousness with roles as Buffy’s sister on TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and an exhibitionist co-ed in the film EuroTrip. We should also mention that both roles led to Trachtenberg amassing a rather large number of not-so-secret admirers. So when pedophilic fans of Buffy (and non-pedophilic fans of bikinis) heard that she would be co-starring in something called A Couple of Dicks, you could forgive (and understand) their excitement.

Michelle Trachtenberg: [Laughs.] I did. I was a kid, so I didn’t get groped—that would be really creepy. But there were some men not fully dressed that I saw on the subway. My mom and I would pretend that we were crazy people—because a crazy person doesn’t want to approach another crazy person.
What’s the nastiest thing anyone’s said to you on the streets of New York?
Michelle Trachtenberg: It’s probably been more recent, since I’ve grown into my womanly form. You know, you’ll walk by a construction site and it’s like, “You kiss your mama with that ass?” What does that even mean? I don’t kiss my mama with my ass because it’s back there! My lips are up here, so that’s weird. It worked though, ’cause I turned around and was like, “What does that mean?!” So he won.
And you spoke for several hours.
Michelle Trachtenberg: Um, he’s my boyfriend.
So, A Couple of Dicks. Did you sign on for the title alone?
Michelle Trachtenberg: Totally. Best headline of my life: “Trachtenberg Likes Dicks.” How can you not have A Couple of Dicks on your IMDB page? I sent a mass e-mail to all my agents and managers like, “I would like to thank y’all for your contribution to my 20-year career, because I am now on top of some dicks.”
There must have been lots of dick jokes on the set. What was the best one?
Michelle Trachtenberg: “Are we rolling on Dicks?” “Sort of. Don’t make it hurt.”

"I got pregnant ... for Casey and I"
After Tila Tequila, in her grief, published her “autobiography” on Twitter earlier this month she began telling the world (again) that she had gotten pregnant. Up until now, I discounted her claims as fiction but today she provides RadarOnline with ultrasound “proof” that she is, in fact, pregnant … behold:
Tila Tequila has been hinting at and tweeting about a possible pregnancy for months, with many speculating the reality TV star is not with child, but rather just desperate for attention. But now, in an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Tila, whose real name is Thien Thanh Nguyen, claims she is in fact pregnant and in her first trimester — and to prove it, she even produces a sonogram. So is Tila really pregnant? Only time will tell given Tila’s often erratic and eccentric behavior in the past. But she says doubters can be assured it’s her actual ultrasound photo because the first two letters of her last name are seen on the upper left hand corner of the photo, which is customary in many ultrasound photos. Visible in the photo is the gestational sac, which is the earliest sonographic finding of a pregnancy. Tila, appearing happy and excited, shares with RadarOnline.com, “I know the whole world is confused as to why I am pregnant while I was still engaged to Casey. They wonder if I cheated on her. Well, while Casey and I were engaged, the world doesn’t know that Casey and I talked a lot about our future. “She and I were both ready to get married and start a family together. That is why she was fighting so hard to get her daughter Ava back and wanted me to adopt Ava so that I would officially be Ava’s mother too! Aside from that we talked about one of us getting pregnant so we can have another baby of our own. We talked about this for a very long time, and we both agreed that I would be the one carrying the baby. “So that is the reason why I got pregnant. It was for Casey and I, and that is also why I was so devastated when she passed away because now I have our baby in my belly, but she has passed away.” Tila says that even though her heart is broken by the death of her beloved “wifey” she plans to be strong for their unborn baby and shares that Casey recently came to her in a dream, telling her not to cry anymore, assuring her that she is watching over her and telling her to just take care of their baby. “I would wake up crying, and go to bed crying,” Tila says. “We had it all planned out, but now I am left alone as a single mother without her. I am crying right now just talking about this because this is something that the public did not know. We were so excited to be mothers and she was so excited to help me through the pregnancy. I will never forget her telling me ‘You are going to be the cutest pregnant girl in the whole world in your pink Teletubby pajamas! I love you so much!’
The trainwrecky, trashiness of this woman knows no bounds and does not cease to astound me. She is truly a deluded, wackjob and the thought of her becoming a parent is absolutely horrifying. I’m not entirely convinced of this pregnancy, ultrasound photo or not. I suspect we’ll be hearing from her, soon enough, that she is “no longer pregnant” or some such nonsense. For the sake of the world, I truly hope this is just a part of her elaborate hoax for attention.

The 'Poltergeist' star passed away due to natural causes
Very sad news to pass along today … Zelda Rubinstein, who played mystic/psychic Tangina in the hit 80′s film Poltergeist, passed away today of natural causes at the age of 76. As you may recall, a few weeks ago we heard that she was “near death” but the report was denied a few days later and it was then reported that she was doing well. Unfortch, it appears that her health finally failed :(
Zelda Rubinstein, the diminutive character actress with the childlike voice who was best known as the psychic called in to rid a suburban home of demonic forces in the 1982 horror movie “Poltergeist,” has died. She was 76. Rubinstein, who also appeared as the mother figure in a high-profile mid-1980s public awareness campaign in Los Angeles aimed at stopping the spread of AIDS, died today of natural causes at Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles, said Eric Stevens, her agent. Rubinstein was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center about two months ago after suffering a mild heart attack, Stevens said. “She had ongoing health issues and unfortunately they finally overtook her,” he said … Rubinstein made her biggest impact as Tangina in director Tobe Hooper’s “Poltergeist,” co-written by Steven Spielberg, who also served as a producer. “Do y’all mind hanging back? You’re jamming my frequencies,” Rubinstein’s Tangina says as she tours the house after the young daughter has been sucked into a blinding white light in her bedroom closet and disappeared. The role was written specifically for a little person. “I thought it would be neat to show that someone’s size had nothing to do with her psychic powers,” Spielberg told The Times in 1982. “Good things can come in small packages, and that’s certainly true of Zelda.” Film critics agreed. Sheila Benson of The Times called Rubinstein’s Tangina “the most original and reassuring character in the film” … Rubinstein’s message to the 16 actors in her company, whose height ranged from 3 feet 8 to 4 feet 6, was: “Become an actor and your world will get much bigger.”
This is such sad news. Rubinstein, as Tangina, was the star of Poltergeist and I am told she was an absolute delightful human being to know. It pains me to think of her in ill health near the end of her life but I know for a fact she lived as hard as she could. She would appear at screenings of Poltergeist over the years and would pose for photos with everyone who asked. She was a wonderful woman and she will be missed. Rest well, Zelda. I truly hope there is peace and serenity for YOU in the Light.

Our dear Britney Spears ventured out into the wet streets of SoCal yesterday in Calabasas, CA to take care of a few errands on her To Do list. Firstly, Ms. Britney made her way to Starbucks to pick up one of her fave caffeinated drinks and then she made her way to the nail salon to get herself a manicure:
We know from her song Lace & Leather that Brit Brit is fond of “French fingertips, red lips … [and] cotton candy kiss[es]“ so I’m not surprised to see her French tipped fingernails. While her ex-hubby is trying to peddle a story about depression (which I do not believe at all), Britney is bizzy primping and pampering herself … like she should. She looks great. I love me some Britney!!

Dirty Pop ... Star
Photographer Mike Ruiz has updated his official Facebook profile by adding a few new photographs that he shot and they include a few interesting photos of former pop star Lance Bass. When last we saw pretty pictures of Lance here on the blog, he was all done up like a prize fighter … this time around, he’s gone glam and dirrty:
My, my … Lance is lookin’ a bit like he’s taken a page from the Adam Lambert playbook tho, I suspect, the styling credit prolly belongs to Ruiz more than it does to Bass. It’s a different side of Lance Bass, that’s for sure … and I think, that is the point. "Joss Whedon shows ... they're awesome ... and then Fox cancels them"
Alan Tudyk, one of the stars of the soon-to-be defunct series Dollhouse, is at the Sundance Film Festival doing promo for his new film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and he was stopped by the LA Times for a brief interview wherein he discusses his thoughts on the early cancellation of Dollhouse. Here are a few screencaps from his video interview:
While at Sundance, covered ably on our sister blog 24 Frames, I ran across a movie called “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,” co-starring none other than Wash himself, Alpha himself, actor Alan Tudyk. He was gracious enough to stay, after a midnight showing, and talk to me about the movie — then awesome enough to give me his quick impression on what happened to “Dollhouse” and where he thought the show could’ve gone. I know, why do we keep punishing ourselves with this ‘coulda’ stuff? Because we care.
I seriously love Alan Tudyk, he was superb in Dollhouse. You have to hear his final thoughts on the show that will air its series finale episode this coming Friday night. Check out this video interview after the jump … More »

The 'Heroes' star was arrested for alleged DUI
Bummer news for fans of Heroes today … TMZ is reporting that Adrian Pasdar, one of the key stars of the NBC series, was arrested in the wee hours this morning on suspicion of drunk driving. According to the report, Pasdar was pulled over for speeding and it was then that police determined that he was driving while impaired:
Adrian Pasdar — the guy who plays the flying Senator Nathan Petrelli on “Heroes” — was busted for DUI early this morning after cops say he was burning rubber and swerving all over a Los Angeles freeway. TMZ has learned 44-year-old Pasdar was arrested at 2:59 AM after cops clocked him going more than 90 mph on the 405 Freeway in L.A. We’re told cops also noticed Pasdar was “failing to maintain his lane.” Law enforcement sources tell us when cops approached Pasdar’s ride, they detected the odor of alcohol — and decided to give him a field sobriety test. Pasdar was eventually placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. Pasdar — who is married to Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines — was taken to a nearby jail, where he was booked and placed behind bars. He’s listed at 5’10″ and 175 lbs. His bail was set at $15,000 — we’re told the bail amount was so high because the actor refused to take a breathalyzer.
Firstly, I’m happy that no one was injured. Speeding, irregardless of drunk driving, is very dangerous and I’m pleased to know that no one was involved in any sort of accident. It is very common for lawyers to advise their clients to not submit to a breathalyzer test so I’m not all that surprised that Pasdar refused to submit. As with all allegations of drunk driving, I’m very disappointed to learn that usually intelligent people who should know better might be endangering the lives of other motorists, as well as their own lives. But, again, thankfully no one was injured … but I sincerely hope a lesson has been learned here.

So Freakin' Cute!
Here are a couple of super, supercute pics of daddy Hugh Jackman taking a stroll with his daughter Ava Eliot in NYC, NY yesterday afternoon. Hugh picked up his little girl from school and decided to grab a bite on the way home:
Hugh‘s sweet attentiveness to his children is such a delight to see. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing this kind of affection from the Jackman fam. I think I like seeing these kinds of pics so much because I remember when my mom used to walk me to school. Hugh Jackman seems like the perfect father, his kids are very lucky :)

"Once you get depressed, you don't really feel like doing anything"
Now, it’s really no secret that I am not the biggest fan of Kevin Federline. From the moment he entered Britney Spears‘s life, I considered him a terrible influence on her and very suspiciously watched him weasel his way deep into her life. I was never impressed with the way he treated her (or her money) and I have been less impressed with his behavior since the pair split. I am willing to give him marginal credit for stepping in to care for his children when Britney couldn’t but, in my mind, parents shouldn’t get “extra credit” merely because they are caring for their children no matter the circumstances — parents are parents always, period. I am giving this preface before I pass along some comments made by K-Fed in a new interview because I find them highly suspicious … in this new interview, he explains that “depression” is what led to the obesity he suffered last year which, coincidentally, occurred right before he scored a role on the VH1 reality TV series Celebrity Fit Club:
For Kevin Federline, the very public struggles came with a private pain, as his 2006 divorce from Britney Spears triggered depression and overeating. “Once you get depressed, you don’t really feel like doing anything,” Federline, 31, tells Access Hollywood. “You’re kind of discouraged about yourself and then the weight gain too, or that makes me more depressed. … I mean, it’s a combination of all of those things.” The difference for Federline was that his troubles played out on a public stage. “Everybody knows what happened with me and Brit,” he says. “I’m not going to say that’s the total cause of it but, I mean, just not being happy with myself was probably the main part of my depression.” Now slimmed down thanks to his work on VH1′s Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp, Federline says his life is turning around, and that he now can be friends with Spears, 28, with whom he has two boys. “I think as time goes on, it keeps getting better and better and better,” he tells Access Hollywood. “I mean, I’m really happy the way that my life is going right now, I really am. I think, you know, I have come a long way. All of us have…my whole family. It’s gotten so much better from where we were.”
You’ll have to pardon my pessimism but I don’t really take these comments at face value. Spederline split up back in 2006 but it wasn’t until 2009 that he started to put on this massive weight. He was already with current girlfriend Victoria Prince and he had already been enjoying large sums of alimony from his divorce from Spears (traveling the world on her dime for free). I’m not sure where the depression comes in. Federline put the weight on very fast (in a matter of months, rather than over a span of years) and as soon as he reached maximum density, he signed on to appear on a competitive reality TV program so that he could lose the weight. His comments do not jibe with me. Now, of course there could be some level of depression and I’m even willing to admit that his comments are 100% true BUT, based on the way he has been living his life in the public eye and the suspicious way he gained all of this “depression weight”, I’m not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Naturally, there may be some who do not agree with me … and that’s fine. Also, my comments have no bearing on people who suffer from genuine bouts of depression. I just find this interview dubious at best. For the sake of his children, who undoubtedly love their father, I hope Kevin Federline takes better care of his health in the future so that they can grow up with both parents in their lives.

As we all should know by now, The Runways biopic debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past Sunday night but today we learn that principal stars Kristen Stewart (who plays Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (who plays Cherie Currie) participated in a short Q&A with fans and reporters after the film’s Sundance premiere and we get to watch a short video clip from it:
I must warn you, tho, K. Stew‘s painfully obvious uncomfortableness with public speaking makes it very difficult to watch this video clip without your wanting to cringe every other second. Her fidgety demeanor and odd manner really makes it truly painful to watch … which is exactly why you gotta watch. Check it out after the jump … More »
Three months after it was released in movie theaters, Michael Jackson‘s final project This Is It is now available in stores on DVD and Blue Ray. To celebrate the occasion, director Kenny Ortega and choreographer Travis Payne attended a Midnight Madness DVD release celebration at a local Best Buy store in NYC, NY last night. A few superfans came out for the occasion, each doing their best Michael Jackson impersonation:
I know many people have been waiting anxiously for this film to be released on DVD and I’m sure many of y’all rushed out to get your copies already. I have to give it up to these superfans in NYC who came out to show their support and adoration for the late King of Pop. It takes a lot of gumption for a person to get dressed up in costume like this but I’m guessing these fans wouldn’t rather be anywhere else in the world. I think the first guy was the best lookin’ MJ impersonator of all … which is your fave? Did you get your copy of This Is It today?

Wax on, Wax off
Heidi Klum was on hand to make an in-person appearance at a very special unveiling at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Berlin, Germany this week … an unveiling of her very own wax-work statue:
HEIDI KLUM doesn’t seem to mind these plastic-looking models. Here she is unveiling her new waxwork at Madame Tussauds in Berlin. Judging by her grin, the Victoria’s Secret Angel was pleased with the likeness. The wax figure, which sported a sparking dress with a plunging neckline, cost £175,000 to make. Her hubby SEAL must be tempted to buy one…
You know, this ain’t a bad likeness. Something seems a bit off with the teeth and I don’t particularly care for the bun hair’do but over all, it really does look like Heidi Klum. I get the cheeky subtext from this report that suggests that hubby Seal might want to buy this statue but … ew, that’s just weird. I’m sure celebs are flattered that they get immortalized in wax like this but I find it creepy as hell. No thanks. Heidi looks happy, tho, so … good for her!

"The music really underscores the high energy and excitement of the film.”
Marvel Studios and Columbia Pictures have announced today that the soundtrack to the much-anticipated sequel film Iron Man 2 will feature a soundtrack of classic tracks from the rock band AC/DC. This is an interesting way to market a film soundtrack these days when the focus seems to be primarily on featuring hot, up-and-coming bands on film soundtracks. This partnership will, essentially, mean that the Iron Man 2 soundtrack is an AC/DC Greatest Hits album. This from the official press release announcement:
Through a unique collaboration between Marvel Studios and Columbia Records, AC/DC’s music will be featured in Marvel Studios’ “IRON MAN 2,” the sequel to the 2008 blockbuster film. In addition, Columbia Records will release the album AC/DC: Iron Man 2 on Monday, April 19, 2010. AC/DC: Iron Man 2, features 15 classic AC/DC songs selected from ten of the band’s studio albums, ranging from 1976 to 2008. The complete track listing can be found below.
Pre-orders begin today, January 26th at Walmart.com for the AC/DC: Iron Man 2 CD and at Amazon.com for a deluxe version of AC/DC: Iron Man 2 – CD+DVD and two LP vinyl packages. The film opens internationally beginning on April 28, 2010. In the U.S., the film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and is scheduled for release on May 7, 2010.
The debut video from AC/DC: Iron Man 2 is the AC/DC’s classic album cut “Shoot To Thrill,” which was filmed live last month in Buenos Aires during the band’s highly acclaimed Black Ice World Tour, the second highest grossing world tour of 2009 according to concert industry trade publication Pollstar. The video also incorporates exclusive footage from “IRON MAN 2” and debuts today worldwide. Check www.acdc.com and www.marvel.com for more information. “Shoot To Thrill” was originally recorded for the band’s 50-million selling album Back In Black, one of the best selling albums of all time.
“Jon Favreau’s vision and passion for AC/DC’s music blend seamlessly into this incredible film” said Steve Barnett, co-chairman of Columbia Records. “The music really underscores the high energy and excitement of the film.”
“Music is an integral part of the Tony Stark and Iron Man experience, and we are pleased that Columbia and AC/DC are taking part in the franchise’s phenomenon. Through this relationship, the band is delivering fans supercharged Iron Man branded music through all our combined consumer touch points, from the movie to retail outlets and even virally with the debut of the new video,” said Tim Connors, Chief Operating Officer, Marvel Studios.
While I’m sure this will come as great news to AC/DC fans, I’m not sure that a greatest hits style soundtrack like this will necessarily appeal to a wider audience. It would’ve made more sense to me if the folks at Marvel chose AC/DC‘s track War Machine as the first single released from a soundtrack of various artists but, well, I guess that’s not the way they wanted to go. After the jump, check out the full tracklist for the Iron Man 2 soundtrack … More »

After a last minute snafu that almost derailed my ENTIRE PLAN, last night’s surprise birthday dinner for my dad went off as a huge success. I was starting to get worried that everything was going so smoothly when, right on cue, something went terribly wrong. An emergency at one of my dad’s properties meant that he was going to cancel dinner and ruin his bday surprise. Thankfully, my sister managed to talk him into going to dinner anyway and he was very happily surprised to see a table full of people ready to celebrate his birthday:
Dinner at Andiamo’s in Dearborn, MI was fantastic as always. We got my parent’s favorite table overlooking the falling snow … it was a great night. My dad was so happy, which means we were all very happy.
After a leisurely dinner, I visited with my folks for a bit before they went to bed. And that was that. David and I fly back to LA this evening. We had a great time here at home but I’m looking forward to the relative warmth of SoCal. Wee!

Here is a new batch of photos shared by Lindsay Lohan which appear to have been snapped in her private dressing quarters as she tried on different looks which *may* be part of her newly announced 6126 clothing collection. Even if the clothes are not from her collection, I’m fairly certain the lacy body suit she is wearing in these photos is deffo from her 6126 leggings collection:
I realize that she is most likely playing around in her dressing room and there is nothing unseemly going on here but I can’t help but see her in the messy light she has cast herself in with her previous unruly behavior. I’m not sure that any of this will do much to help combat child trafficking in India but, well, I guess that was yesterday … this is today.

Josh Duhamel paid a visit to ABC studios in NYC this AM for an appearance on Good Morning America to do some promo for his new film When In Rome (which opens in theaters this Friday). As you can see from the following photos, Duhamel was in a giddy mood … he seemed anxious to let his inner princess out:
Even in a tiara the man looks hawt. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again … Fergie Ferg is a lucky lady. When In Rome looks like one of those cheesy “chick flick”s that I get suckered into seeing (usually by my BFF Sarah) and then end up loving so much I watch them over and over and over again when they finally air on cable (ie. P.S. I Love You, 27 Dresses, etc.). I’m not sure if I will actually see this film in theaters just yet. What do y’all think? Is this a movie that YOU are planning to see?

"I'm happy as a clam ... I just want to come home"
Early yesterday morning we learned that former child star Gary Coleman had been arrested in Utah on Sunday afternoon and today we learn not only that Coleman has been freed from jail (his bail was reportedly paid for him by a fan who felt sorry for him) but we get to hear, in his own words, what the experience was like for him. Here are a few screencaps from an impromptu interview he gave to RadarOnline as he was leaving the jailhouse yesterday:
RadarOnline.com caught up with actor Gary Coleman as he made his way out of Utah County Jail on Monday afternoon. Looking frail and in a wheelchair, Coleman talked about his jail experience and explained the real reason he was thrown into the pokey in the first place. On Sunday, Coleman was arrested on an outstanding domestic violence warrant. He explained to RadarOnline.com that he had a valid reason for missing his court date. “I was in the hospital getting minor surgery,” he said. His father-in-law, who was there to pick up Coleman, revealed to RadarOnline.com that he was actually having heart surgery, a fact Coleman wanted to play down. “I don’t want to spread that around,” he said, explaining it would make him unemployable in Hollywood. His father-in-law also revealed that Coleman currently undergoes dialysis three times a week for a pre-existing medical condition he has had since he was born. Coleman (who was bailed out by two men who referred to themselves as his security detail from New York) called his prison time “absolutely miserable.” On his release, he was simply looking forward to the simple pleasures in life. “I’m happy as a clam…I just want to come home,” Coleman said, adding he simply wants to be in his own bed. As for how his marriage with Shannon Price is going, Coleman joked “My wife would kill me!” if he spoke out.
Ugh. The sight of Gary Coleman (who I remember fondly as the cute Arnold Drummond on Diff’rent Strokes) in that mugshot was bad enough but seeing him in this wheelchair, talking about his heart surgery … it’s so sad. The young stars of Diff’rent Strokes suffered so greatly in adulthood … Dana Plato paid with her life. I sincerely hope that things get better for Coleman. Poor little guy.

Sexy Scottish actor Gerard Butler made himself a new friend in Venice, CA over the weekend as he was chillin’ with some friends Saturday evening. After putzing around town, he stopped to listen to a lovely violin player serenade him with her melodies in front of her Venician home. In return, Gerry decided to make-out with the violinist for her troubles:
He’s a smoooooth operator, that Gerard Butler. Sure, he’s lookin’ a far cry from his chiseled 300 days but still, would you turn down a smooch from Gerard Butler if he came to your house? Yeah, didn’t think so … not even Jennifer Aniston can evade his charms.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the new male spokesmodel for Emporio Armani, surfaced in Madrid, Spain tooling around in a flashy new Ferrari this week to meet up with a friend for lunch … behold:
It would appear that Mr. Ronaldo is putting all of that money he got from Armani to good use. You know what they say about dudes with big, garish sports cars … they’ve prolly got big, garish personalities, too ;) Shoot, this kid is still in his 20′s, he’s a major international sports star and he’s got money coming out of his eyeballs … I can’t really hate on him for spending his money (un)wisely. As far as I know, he stays out of trouble (for the most part) and has a pretty good head on his shoulders. Live it up, Cristiano!

A whole new batch
Yesterday we got wind of the latest rumor that suggests that George Lucas may be seriously considering redoing all of the Star Wars films, Episodes I – VI, in 3D and today we learn more possible 3D movies. It is being reported that a new sequel film to the 80′s hit movie Gremlins will be made and released in, you guessed it, 3D:
Could a third Gremlins movie finally be in the works? Website Market Saw is reporting that not only is a third film in development, but it’s being planned in 3-D. I’m not exactly sure how you even come to this conclusion when a script isn’t even being worked on, or maybe it’s just safe to assume any movie in development could arrive in 3-D? Hopefully something official will be announced soon; I pray this isn’t a Warner Bros. Premiere title (their straight-to-disc distribution label). Joe Dante had recently talked Gremlins 3 with BD back in April where he confirmed he would not direct assuming it ever happened.
HMMM … with so little information, especially from Warner Bros., I’d hold off on celebrating just yet. But considering that the notion of 3D is so popular right now that you might think it’s 1985, I would not be at all surprised if this Gremlins 3D movie is actually a go.
As you may recall, I recently got to see the original Gremlins on the big screen for the first time in about 20-some years. The movie still holds up, I’d love to see a new film (with puppets, NOT CGI) be created … in 3D!!

When last we saw photos of Tom Cruise hard at work on the set of a new film, he was jumpin’ all over the place for his new film Knight and Day. Over the weekend, Cruise was back in LA hard at work on another new film titled The Hardy Men and, yep you guessed it, he was back to his daredevil ways … behold:
It’s clear that Tommy boy likes to work hard for his money. With his fame and cachet, he does NOT need to be endangering his life like this to do his own stunts. It’s clear Tom likes going for the real deal. While the pessimist in me just thinks he likes to be a show-off, the optimist in me can appreciate that he does know that movies that feature stars doing their own stunts look better. I’m not sure if all this jumpin’ around is enough to get me into the theater to see his movies but he is workin’ hard nonetheless. Are any of y’all impressed at all?

Prepare ye the way for his new "erotic thriller" film
Hottie McHotster Ryan Gosling enjoyed an evening of tubing on the slopes at a part at the T-Mobile myTouch Diner at Village at the Yard in Park City, UT at the Sundance Film Festival yesterday. The event was thrown in celebration of Gosling‘s new film with actress Michelle Williams and Ryan was THE FIRST guy to get in on the fun. Here are a few photos from the fun event and some deets about his new film Blue Valentine:
Ryan Gosling’s new film is so sexy he thinks it should be classed as an “erotic thriller”. The 29-year-old actor has revealed his upcoming movie ‘Blue Valentine’ – in which he stars alongside ‘Brokeback Mountain’ actress Michelle Williams – contains sex scenes which are as steamy as anything filmgoers have seen before. He said: “I’ve heard the film described as a portrait of love falling apart, but I think they should call it an ‘erotic thriller’. That sounds way more fun. Sex is a really important character in the film.” In the upcoming drama, the pair play a married couple who are trying to halt the breakdown of their relationship by remembering the early days of their romance. Although the movie does contain lovemaking scenes, the Canadian actor insists it is integral to the storyline and is not used gratuitously. He added: “Sex is a bone of contention in the present and a dialogue of their love in the past.” The movie is due for release later this year.
Sounds spicy, I’m sold. As you may recall, we saw a few photos of Gosling on the set of Blue Valentine last year … a few showed him lookin’ all bruised and beaten, another few showed him lookin’ all smoochy with Williams. I am ALL FOR any film that features Mr. Ryan Gosling. He is a great actor. Incidentally, while my friends and I were stuffing our faces with Jet’s Pizza last night, we were watching The Notebook on ABC Family. Ryan Gosling is sooooo dreamy. By the looks of these photos, he appears to be a lot of fun to play with, too!

It's still hip to be square
The famed Rubik’s Cube that took the 80′s by storm is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary this year (can you believe it) and is using the occasion to try and inspire the youth of today to do better in school. Some of you may be too young to remember but in the Rubik’s Cube‘s hey day, it was as popular worldwide as the iPhone is today … everyone had to have one, it was a phenomenon. Now, 30 years later, the Cube is hoping that it can help get kids more interested in math and science … not a bad goal for a non-electronic puzzle game, I think. Here are some deets from the new Rubik’s press release:
As the Rubik’s Cube, one of the most beloved and best-selling puzzles of all time, celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year, the next generation of fans are cracking the code to this three-decade old icon. With the help of the new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube initiative, thousands of youths from schools, camps and after-school programs nationwide are accomplishing the unthinkable — solving the cube one fun twist at a time, while learning about algebra, geometry, and determination. And now, anyone, including parents, teachers, and students alike, can ring in the New Year by making their own “Rubik’s Resolution,” a pledge to learn how to solve the cube, gaining critical thinking skills and a sense of triumph along the way.
How you can pledge a “Rubik’s Resolution”:
* Youth: The new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube online portal features a downloadable step-by-step solution guide for unlocking the secrets to the 3×3 Rubik’s Cube. Online cube communities like Facebook, YouTube, and YouCanDoTheCube.com allow participants to share Rubik’s Cube experiences.
* Educators: Lesson plans with a math twist show teachers and youth leaders how to use the Rubik’s Cube as a memorization, sequencing, and problem solving tool. The You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube solution guide and lesson plans have been designed to help educators engage youth with hands-on education activities and are aligned with standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.
* Parents: After-school and weekend Rubik’s activities foster life lessons such as problem-solving, negotiation, and teamwork, and provide an interactive, tangible way for youth to learn fundamental math disciplines like fractions and measurement.
“The Rubik’s cube program has taught our students invaluable critical thinking skills and has boosted their confidence immeasurably,” said Cindy Caruso, citywide afterschool and summer camp coordinator at New York City’s Parks and Recreation Department. “We look forward to our upcoming tournament.”
Thirty years after its introduction to America by Erno Rubik, the Rubik’s Cube today is being used to teach important math concepts including area, perimeter, volume, angles, algorithms and enumeration, among many other geometry and algebra topics. To date, the You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube program is used as an education tool and confidence booster in thousands of schools K-12 in 48 states across the U.S. and in over 100 Boys & Girls Clubs of America and YMCA after-school programs. With the launch of the new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube “Competition Guide,” dozens of schools have hosted regional competitions as well.
The “You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube” solution kits available to schools, camps, and after-school programs include 12 Rubik’s Cubes, 12 solution guides, an instructional DVD, cube sign-out sheets, posters, stickers, and award certificates for when a child solves the puzzle.
For more information, and to learn how to bring the “You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube” program to a local school or youth organization, visit www.YouCanDoTheCube.com.
This is so cool … but will kids put down their hand-held video games, iPods and cellphones to play with Rubik’s Cubes again? Unlikely but I’m glad that the folks at Rubik’s are still workin’ hard to try and inspire kids again. I can’t even convey how popular this puzzle game was back in the 80′s … it was such a huge deal. While the Rubik’s Cube we all know and love is celebrating 30 years this year, the actual birth date of the puzzle goes back to 1974. Click HERE for a full blast from the past history lesson on the Rubik’s Cube. Are any of y’all fans? Can you still realign the Rubik’s Cube colors in record time?

Family Fun Night
After making her appointed appearance in court on Friday afternoon, Britney Spears and her agent/beau Jason Trawick stepped out with her children Sean Preston and Jayden James for a family night at the movies. Here are pics of the fam as they made their way out of a theater showing of The Tooth Fairy:
It is SO lovely to see that Britney and Jason are still happily together, spending as much time as they can as a family for Brit‘s boys. While I find Britwick‘s movie choice dubious at best, I suppose you cannot fault them for picking The Tooth Fairy for the sake of the young’ns. Britwick can see as many crappy films as they like so long as they continue to do so together. Long live, Britwick!!

Last October Whitney Houston teased that she would be hittin’ the road with a world tour titled Nothing But Love and today we get our first look at the first promo photo that will be included in the Nothing But Love tourbook!
As you may already know, Whitney announced the tour by saying:
This is my first full tour since the My Love Is Your Love tour and I am so excited to be performing for my fans around the world after all this time. I am putting together a great show and cannot wait to perform the songs from my new album ‘I Look To You’, along with some of your favorites.
Our dear Whitney looks FANTASTIC! I understand the Nothing But Love World Tour begins Feb 6th in South Kore and continues onto Japan, Australia and Europe. She should be making her way to our sunny shores later on in the year. People, get ready, Whitney is coming back to the live performance stage!! I cannot WAIT!! Does she not look fantastic in this photo?

Yesterday was another fun day here in the Metro Detroit area. To get the day started, we paid a visit to one of my fave stores in the area, Earth Lore, before we made our way to Plymouth, MI to check out the ice sculpture festival going on there this weekend. We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Sean O’Callaghan’s pub before we made our way to Ann Arbor for phase two of our day:

Hot on the heels of his wins this year at the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards for his amazing work on Dexter, Michael C. Hall stepped out with his beautiful wife and Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter to run a few errands together yesterday afternoon. Here are a few photos of the happy couple out and about in SoCal yesterday:
They look so happy, so in love. I love these photos. As you may recall, MCH announced a couple of weeks ago that he is successfully battling cancer but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the smile on his face. I wish nothing but the best for MCH and Jenny C. May they live long and very happy lives together!!

At the start of last week Victoria Beckham jetted off to the UK to take care of some biz before she made her way to Milan, Italy to meet up with her hubby David Beckham (and to fend off any would-be bulge gropers) later in the week. Today we learn that VB has already made her way back home to LA to be reunited with her children. VB uncharacteristically arrived at LAX Airport wearing ballet flat shoes as opposed to her usual high heel stilettos (!!!) and then she stepped out with her boys — Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James and Cruz David — for a trip to Whole Foods while wearing baggy jeans (!!!!!) and flip flops (!!!!!!!!!!):
Say whaaaaaaat? Not only is the woman the Queen of transcontinental flying (I don’t know HOW the hell she does it) but this new way of dressing is … interesting. Yes, it appears that VB was not too keen on being seen out and about in baggy jeans and flip flops but still, I’m glad to see her so dressed down. I want to see more of this Vicki B. She may not think she looks fab but I sure do.

Raising money for Haiti
On Friday we learned that Radiohead had announced a last minute, impromptu live concert performance at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, CA to raise money for Haitian relief. The tickets were sold via Ticketmaster by auction and the show took place last night. A few celebs, like couples Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard and Anna Paquin & Stephen Moyer came out for the show which, according to LAist, raised over half a million dollars for the people of Haiti:
Late Thursday Radiohead announced that it would perform a charity show benefiting the survivors of the devastating January 12th earthquake in Haiti. The tickets were made available via a Ticketmaster auction which ended with a final minimum bid of $475 (meaning many secured their tickets for $450). Some went above and beyond as the proceeds were going to Oxfam America’s Haiti Relief Fund and the high bid was $2,000 per ticket (for either 2 or 4 tickets), according to the band. All in all more than $572,000 was raised in fans’ donations and it was an unforgettable, intimate gig for all at the 1,300-capacity theater.
It truly sounds like a special night … not only because the setlist looked AMAZING but because so many people gave so generously to help the affected people of Haiti. After the jump, check out the setlist in full … More »
Last night The Sundance Film Festival hosted the world premiere screening of the new biopic The Runaways at the Eccles Center Theatre in Park City, UT. As I mentioned yesterday, actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning were joined by director Floria Sigismondi at last night’s premiere. In attendance as well were original Runaways bandmembers Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals along with a review of the film from Entertainment Weekly magazine:
The most entertaining thing about the movie is that its writer-director, music-video veteran Floria Sigismondi (making her feature debut), has a sixth sense for how the Runaways were an image first and a rock & roll band second. Early on, we see Stewart’s black-shag-haired Joan in an L.A. boutique, where she has to coerce the sales woman into selling her a man’s studded biker jacket, which she wears as if born to it. Stewart’s no-frills, casually likable performance begins with Jett’s distinctive tough-girl saunter — which is to say, the actress knows just how to walk like a skinny dude. At the same time, we meet Cherie Currie (first name pronounced Sher-ee), who chops her platinum-blonde mane into a David Bowie shag, paints on the facial lightning streak from his Aladdin Sane cover, and lip-syncs to him at a high school talent show, which results in her being pelted with wads of paper. These girls, it’s clear, have their underground fashion bona fides down. But it takes Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), the noted record producer who becomes their psycho Svengali, to teach them how to rock out like boys. Fowley, who favors red-leather jackets and dog collars the size of tiaras, is a hyped-up hustler-manipulator who looks like a punk Frankenstein and shouts everything as if in mid-tantrum. He’s a ruthless creep, a kind of jadedly oversexed type-A head case, but he knows what sells. He finds Cherie in a nightclub, immediately placing her in the band as if he were casting a porno film. The fact that she’s only 15 is, to him, icing on the bad-girl cake.

Could the famed, insanely popular and beloved movie franchise Star Wars be getting a 3D redux that would put all 6 movies back in movie theaters is mind-blowing 3D?! According to a new report, George Lucas has been suggesting that due to the advancements made in 3D technology (as featured in the blockbuster hit film Avatar) the entire Star Wars franchise could be converted to 3D and shown in movie theaters again. I, for one, would LOVE to see Episodes I – VI in 3D on the big screen but I am not holding my breath just yet until we hear something more substantial from Lucas himself. Still, the prospect is very titillating … here is the report:
It is one of the most popular film franchises of all time. And now the original Star Wars films could be given a modern make-over and converted into 3D. Director George Lucas has hinted that the new advances in technology mean it is now a possibility to see all six films re-made. He said that he had initially thought of the idea after finishing the last Star Wars film, The Revenge of the Sith, in 2005. But he was convinced about the idea after watching blockbuster Avatar, which picked up two Golden Globes last week. Lucas said: ‘We’ve been looking for years to do this but the technology hasn’t been there. I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.’ Avatar – which cost more than £300m to make – has shattered box-office records and is on the verge of taking £1billion at the box office since its release at Christmas. Lucas added: ‘I liked it. I make movies like that, so I can appreciate what James Cameron went through to do it. It worked well in 3D and I’m happy it’s so successful.’ Lucas, 65, is currently shooting his latest film, Red Tails but is planning to begin work on converting the Star Wars films when he finishes later this year. Since its release in 1977, the franchise has become a cult phenomenon, having grossed more than £2billion. It is the third most popular film franchise of all time, behind James Bond and Harry Potter. This isn’t the first time Lucas has re-worked the original trilogy. The first three films alone went on to generate £1billion after they were re-released in 1997. He spent more than £5 million on updating the films he shot in the 1970s and 80s and inserting scenes and characters with CGI technology.
If this report really is to be believed then I’m totally on board with Lucas‘s “plans” to redux the entire Star Wars franchise in 3D. For me, it would be another way to watch the films I love so much with the added bonus of enjoying them in 3D. I honestly don’t feel that “messing” with the films in this way ruins anything. Folks would still be able to watch the films in regular 2D and those of us interested in the 3D could enjoy the films in another way. But, as I said above, I’m not getting all excited just yet. This rumor could turn out to be nothing more than, well, a rumor. If we hear from George Lucas himself that this is his plan, I will happily jump on board! This sounds like a fun idea, I’m sold.
Don't you ever for a second get to thinkin' you're irreplaceable
Yesterday we learned that the cast of Jersey Shore were banding together Friends style (i.e. every castmember gets treated and paid exactly the same) in their negotiations with MTV to return for season 2 of the show. MTV made an offer that the cast felt was not good enough (and WELL below the fees paid to the stars of MTV‘s other show The Hills) and the cast, as a group, reportedly turned down that offer and demanded more money or they all walk. MTV has decided that they are not putting up with this bullshizz from the cast and have, again reportedly, issued an ultimatum … take it or leave it — and get the eff out of Jersey Shore:
Sources tell TMZ the network has told the cast if they don’t accept MTV’s deal by the end of business Monday, they will be replaced. And, MTV has told them it does not have to be a package deal — the cast members who accept the offer will stay … those who do not can have a nice life. As we first reported, MTV offered each cast member a $10,000 signing bonus and $5,000 per episode. We’re told the cast rejected the offer and made it clear they would all stand together and hold out for their price, though they didn’t say what it was. MTV made a new offer of $10,000 an episode — there are 12 episodes in the new season — but so far the cast hasn’t responded. We’re told MTV already has replacements if Snooki, Pauly D, The Situation and the others don’t accept the offer on Monday. But, we’re told, MTV is happy to mix and match if some of the cast accepts the offer and other don’t. As for who’s being the most hard-headed in the negotiations — The Situation and Pauly D.
Yeah, this sounds more like it. There is NO reason that MTV has to shell out insane amounts of money to these jokers. They were entertaining but they are nothing special at all. These characters are a nickle a dozen at the Jersey Shore … there are countless other Snookis and Situations out there just dying for their chance in the
sun tanning bed. My guess is that they won’t all turn down the offer to return … the bright, shining star of fame is too much for these kids to turn down. You know Angelina, the idiot moron who left the show with her trash bag luggage after the second episode, would KILL to be back on the show. I’d be impressed, tho, if the entire cast did ban together and either take or leave the offer as a single unit. If MTV is serious about locking down the deal today we should know very soon the future state of MTV‘s Jersey Shore.

"What might be right for you, may not be right for some ..."
Bummer news to pass along today. After suffering a brief ailment recently that rendered him hospitalized, child actor Gary Coleman (41) was arrested yesterday in Santaquin, UT on charges of misdemeanor domestic assault. Ugh. It has not been a great year thus far for the actor most famously known as Arnold Drummond on Diff’rent Strokes … here are some deets of this most recent arrest:
Gary Coleman was arrested Sunday for domestic violence, authorities said. The former child star was arrested in Santaquin, Utah on a domestic assault warrant and booked into the Utah County jail about 1:30 p.m., according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. He was wanted for one count of domestic assault – a misdemeanor – though it’s unclear when the incident occurred. Utah County Deputy Denton, who declined to give her first name, said the warrant stemmed from a missed court date. Coleman is working on posting bail of $1,725, Denton said, and the jail doesn’t have any record of who his alleged victim was.
Previously, Gary Coleman was arrested after he allegedly hit a man with his car in a Utah bowling alley parking lot. Just last Summer, Coleman‘s wife Shannon Price (23) locked him out of their home, threw many of his belongings onto the street and she herself was arrested after the police arrived on the scene. The couple, who met on the set of Church Ball a few years ago, almost divorced on a televised episode of Divorce Court in 2008. It sounds like these two have enjoyed a long run of unhappiness together. Perhaps it is time that they both move on from one another. So sad.

Contrary to one unsubstantiated report
Despite what you may be hearing in various locales stemming from a singular British report that is completely devoid of fact or substantial information, the happily unmarried Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are NOT separating. To be honest, I’m surprised the initial report has been given as much credence as it has in the day since it came out. When I first heard the ridiculous report, I merely snickered and deleted the message. But, apparently, enough people believe it that Brangelina has to chime in to deny that the report has any merit whatsoever:
While reports are swirling that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are headed for a split, multiple sources close to the family tell PEOPLE that the rumors are false. “Everything is fine” with the couple, who are parents to six kids, a source says. Another source says the split reports, which were first published in a British tabloid, are “totally false.” In recent weeks, it’s been business as usual for the busy couple – movie shoots, family outings, charity work – and several observers say they saw nothing amiss.
Brangelina seem like the most rock solid couple in Hollywood (perhaps because they are not married), I’m certain they will be together forever. They got too many kids to want to split from one another … if anything, they’ll stay together just so they can share the toils of raising the kids! While I was certain the break-up report was false, I’m happy to hear sources confirming the reports falsity. Long live Brangelina! (Tho, they can chill on the kids)

Yesterday was a really fun day in Detroit, MI. Because David doesn’t get to The DTM very often, Sarah and I decided that we want to show him how amazing Detroit Rock City is so yesterday was Day 1 of our campaign. We started out the day grabbing lunch at the amazing crêperie Good Girls Go To Paris:
Now I’m not a huge fan of savory crêpes (ie. with meat, etc.) but these crêpes are AMAZING. I enjoyed one with roast beef, brie and cranberries … it was TO DIE FOR! We all shared a sweet crêpe for dessert with granny smith apples, caramel, brown sugar and fresh whipped creme. Seriously, to die. Detroiters, get your ass to Good Girls Go To Paris, I swear you will LOVE it there :)
After we supped almost to death, we made our way to the Detroit Institute of Art then we made our way to Joe Louis Arena to watch the Detroit Red Wings take on the LA Kings. Check out some fun photos after the jump … More »

Time, once again, to say hello to the lovely chap we like to call the Hot Dude of the Week. Photographed by Rick Day, this week’s Hot Dude looks to be a fine specimen of hotness that folks tend to appreciate around these here parts. Say hello to Tanner Sarff:
I’m not sure if that is a wrestler’s cap on Tanner‘s head but he looks like the kind of guy you prolly wouldn’t mind wrestling, don’t he? Actually, it appears that he’s wearing an askew mask on his head, which I’m glad he’s not wearing properly because he’s far too purdy to cover up his face. I quite like the bird he’s got tattooed on his side and, well, his muscles don’t really hurt either. Yeah, I got no cause for complaint. Enjoy!!

'Basterds' come out on top
Last night members of the Screen Actors Guild made their way out to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA to attend and revel in the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. As we learned earlier today, Betty White was honored at the SAG Awards last night with the Lifetime Achievement Award but there were many other awards handed out last night. Here are a few photos from the SAG Awards red carpet arrivals:
The Screen Actors Guild Awards are voted on by members of the Screen Actors Guild so, essentially, the actors themselves decide who gave the most award-winning performances of the year. Except for the Academy Awards, I believe the SAG Award is the most coveted by actors because they are given by the actors themselves. Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds took home the top award last night for the Best Ensemble Performance Award (Film) while Glee took home the award for Best Ensemble Performance Award (Television Comedy) and Mad Men took home the award for Best Ensemble Performance Award (Television Drama). After the jump, check out some photos from the show itself and find out who else took home trophies from the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards last night … More »

Now that Jersey Shore has gone from being a ratings hit show to a pop cultural phenomenon, MTV has the hard task of going to the negotiating table with the Jersey Shore cast to try and woo them back for another season of the show. Granted, I would personally like to see a new batch of MTV wannabes cast for the second season of Jersey Shore (making all this talk of contract negotiations with the current cast completely moot) but Hollywood peeps like to bleed a good thing dry before they try something new. As a result of all the attention that Jersey Shore has generated, the cast are banding together to try and get MTV to pay up as much money as possible to get them to return for season 2 of Jersey Shore — they want mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money, y’all:
The “Jersey Shore” kids didn’t fall off the pizza delivery truck yesterday — TMZ has learned they have rejected MTV’s salary offer for Season 2. Sources connected with the negotiation say MTV offered Snooki, Pauly D, “The Situation” and the others each a $10,000 signing bonus and $5,000 an episode. We’re told the cast rejected the offer and made it clear — they were negotiating “Friends” style … everyone would get the same amount and it had to be a lot higher than MTV’s offer. Sources say MTV came back and doubled the offer — $10,000 an episode. The cast hasn’t responded to the offer. It’s still a bargain. The season finale of “Jersey Shore” was off the charts with 4.8 million viewers. And, with some members of “The Hills” scoring north of $100,000 an episode, the “Jersey Shore” kids, frankly, should be holding out for a hell of a lot more than $10k. We’ve also learned MTV has a contractual hold on the cast for another year, so technically Snooki and company have no right to renegotiate — but it’s done all the time with hit shows. An MTV spokesperson would not comment on the negotiations and said the network has not made a decision on bringing the show back for Season 2. We’re also told MTV has received thousands of tapes from would-be Guidos and Guidettes.
Firstly, I have to say that I commend the cast for banding together and negotiating as a team. But if they think they are gonna get anywhere close to the money paid out to stars of The Hills, they are sadly mistaken. One short season of any show is not worth $100,000 an episode … sorry Snooki. Again, while I enjoyed this first cast of Jersey Shore miscreants, I’d much rather watch an entirely new batch of tanned, muscled and big boobied fools move into the Jersey Shore house and see what happens. MTV could pay them a pittance and would still be able to deliver the same, ridiculous humor. We’ll see what comes from all of this talk of negotiations but one thing is for sure … Jersey Shore WILL be coming back for a second season. We’ll just have to wait and see which batch of guidos/guidettes will be providing the humor.

My little 'Runaways'
The much-anticipated biopic The Runaways makes its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT tonight but actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning have made their way to Park City ahead of time to partake of the various film festival events and to begin promoing for their film. Kristen gave a brief interview to E! News at the Sundance premiere of the film Welcome to the Rileys (a film that K. Stew also appears in as the character Mallory) and posed for a few portraits with her Runaways co-star (Fanning) and director Floria Sigismondi:
We had the pleasure of interviewing one of our fave girls on the planet, Kristen Stewart, earlier today at the Sundance premiere of her film Welcome to the Rileys. K.Stew looked Park City chic, bundled in a green jacket with her dark Joan Jett hair loosely pulled back, and was eager to talk about one of the roles she claimed to be most proud of. In WTTR, Kristen plays a “working girl,” as she prefers to say, making it clear to her fans out there she’s not just Bella Swan from Twilight.
Everyone is raving about your performance—how did you prepare for this particular, shall we say, slightly more risqué role?
“Umm, Jake [Scott, the director] had a lot to do with my preparation and understanding of the type of person I was playing, and his serious regard of sensitivity towards those people. I play a girl who has sort of been stripped of any choice and really stripped of any normal upbringing. Like she couldn’t establish who she was because of things that have happened to her and she became a ‘working girl,’ if you want to call it that. So in preparing for the role I talked to a lot of people, actually like three people in New Orleans, that were strippers that were working in this bar that we ended up using in the movie…I don’t really prepare for anything, it’s just about like, keeping it in your mind the whole time. If it affects you…it’s just about understanding it more, it’s not about having to like physically—oh, but I did have to do pole dancing lessons! But you don’t really see that in the movies.”
Oh, so you’ve got some sexy skills now!
Do you get nervous when you have to shoot the more provocative scenes?
“I was freaking out! The thing is my character is so, like, she just doesn’t care. Basically nothing belongs to her. She’ll give it to you like it doesn’t bother [her]. So I had to drop that. She literally walks around with an open sore. Literally! She’s just constantly like, ‘Ugh, I’m fine, whatever.’”
Now that you’re getting back to work, please tell us you were able to enjoy your time off after all the New Moon press.
“Yeah, I’m actually bored for the first time in, like, ever. So, yeah, I really want to get back to work.”
We doubt Robert Pattinson is boring, but glad to hear our gal really is a working girl…well, you know what we mean.
I can’t help but like Kristen Stewart. She seems like a totally down girl and considering how ungodly rich she is at such a young age, I’m quite impressed by how “unrich” she always looks. You would think from the way she looks in these Sundance portraits with Dakota and Floria that the theme was “unkempt”. Kristen keeps it real at all times, you gotta love that. The Runaways premieres at Sundance tonight so we should be reading reviews tomorrow … I can’t wait!

The luminous and absolutely fantastic comic actress Betty White was on hand at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA to collect her Lifetime Achievement Award at The Screen Actors Guild Awards last night. As you may recall, we learned earlier this month that White was selected last year to receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award and last night was her big night. Here are a couple photos of SAG nominee (and winner) Sandra Bullock presenting Ms. Betty White with her award trophy during the show last night:
Betty White accepted a lifetime achievement award at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards with the wit and grace that have punctuated her six-decade career. White was the guest-of-honor at a gathering of Hollywood’s top actors and actresses. She walked the red carpet and was treated to lavish praise by her peers. She reflected on her career, which included roles on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Golden Girls” and several film appearances. “Seventy-one years ago when I sang on an experiment thing and it was called television, who would have dreamed it would culminate in an evening like this,” White said after accepting her award. She joked backstage that all the attention was going to go to her head. “I’m not going to be fit to live with the next few years.” White, 88, accepted the award from Sandra Bullock after a lengthy montage of White’s work. The pair then exchanged quips. Bullock joked that she finds White annoying, to which White shot back, “Isn’t it heartening to see how far a girl as plain as she is can go?” White had only praise for Bullock backstage. “She’s the epitome of what a movie star should be,” White said. “She’s not only gorgeous and talented, but she’s also the most down-to-earth human being.” Bullock and White recently costarred in “The Proposal,” the latest but not last act in a storied film and television career. White spoke on the red carpet before the awards show of her upcoming film, “You Again,” which is slated for release later this year. “I was only 88 last Sunday, so I have lots more stuff to do,” she said Saturday.
Betty White is a NATIONAL TREASURE and we are very lucky to have her. She has provided countless hours of entertainment over her long career and will forever hold a special place in heart as a result of her storied career. Of course, I love her most on The Golden Girls which also starred the late Estelle Getty, the late Bea Arthur and the ailing Rue McClanahan (get better soon, RUE!) but watching the montage of Betty‘s accomplishments in Hollywood as shown during the SAG Awards last night, I really realized what an amazing actress she has always been. After the jump, check out a couple photos of Betty posing with her Lifetime Achievement Award and watch video of her award presentation last night … More »
Sets a new record for public donations in a disaster relief telethon
Amazing news to pass along concerning the multi-network Hope for Haiti Now telethon that aired on Friday night, it turns out that the telethon set a new record for public money donated in a disaster relief telethon by pulling in a staggering $57 million dollars for Haitian relief. As I understand it, 100% of that $57 million (and counting, donations continue to come in and iTunes sales of the telethon performances have not been factored in yet) will go straight to the people of Haiti:
The “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon, led by George Clooney and Haiti-born rapper Wyclef Jean, has raised more than $57 million for relief to the earthquake-ravaged country, organizers said on Saturday. They called the $57 million a record for public donations in a disaster relief telethon, and said the figures were still “preliminary” as they exclude donations by corporations and large private donors and sales figures on website iTunes. Organizers said the “Hope for Haiti Now” album was the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history and was currently No. 1 on iTunes’ album chart in 18 countries. The two-hour telethon featured more than 100 celebrities singing songs, telling tales of loss and survival in Haiti and taking donations by phone. It was broadcast on television networks around the world, online and on mobile carriers … Proceeds will be split among relief organizations including the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, the U.N. World Food Program, Oxfam America, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Yele Haiti Foundation. The January 12, magnitude-7 quake killed up to 200,000 people, Haitian authorities said, and left up to 3 million people hurt or homeless and clamoring for medical assistance, food and water in the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country.
If you considering the hundreds of thousands who have been killed in Haiti, this amount is no match … but I sincerely hope the money gets used in way that will help save the lives of the massive amount of injured people left in the wake of that deadly earthquake. Yes, the country is in dire need of help in all areas but the main focus has to be on the injured people of Haiti. There has already been too much death there. It warms my heart considerably to see that altho many people are struggling financially here in the US and abroad, they still opened up their wallets in a way unmatched by any other disaster relief telethon before. $57 million is a lot of money but keep the donations coming. There are 3 million people who are seriously injured and/or left homeless! They absolutely need our help. Click HERE if you would like to donate to Hope for Haiti Now.

A new song from the soundtrack for ‘Tron: Legacy’
Almost 30 years after Disney released the futuristic film Tron back in 1982 they are set to release the long-awaited sequel Tron: Legacy in December of this year. French electro-musicians Daft Punk have been commissioned to create the soundtrack for the film and this weekend a new Daft Punk song titled Fragile has leaked its way to the Internets giving us our first listen to the Tron 2 soundtrack:
A song from Daft Punk’s forthcoming soundtrack to the Tron: Legacy film has reportedly appeared online. The song from the French duo, seemingly titled ‘Fragile’, was picked up by fan site Daftworld.over-blog.com. The film is due for cinematic release in December. Last October it was revealed that the Daft Punk pair, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, appear in the film as well as having recorded its score. It is believed that they will take part in promotional work for the film’s production company, Disney, this summer.
I am a huge Daft Punk fan and I think this marriage between the band and the Tron franchise is BRILLIANT! I am quite taken by this new track, it’s very Daft Punk. After the jump, check out a new promo pic from the film and listen to the song Fragile in full … More »
Birthday Lurve goes out to Chifundo Mercy James this weekend as the little Miss celebrates her 5th birthday this week. Here are a couple photos from Mercy‘s b-day celebration with her mother Madonna and her brother David Banda earlier this week:
[Madonna] took her five-year-old daughter and her adopted son David, four, to a New York toy shop to celebrate Mercy’s birthday on Thursday. David had been decorated in facepaint, while Mercy was dressed up in a pink tutu, white hat and a Stella McCartney jacket. The design, created for GapKids, is said to be so popular that it sold out of shops in New York just weeks after it was released. But when you are the daughter of one of the world’s biggest superstar, such issues do not seem to be a problem. In contrast, her mother looked a lot more conservative, opting for a black trouser suit and overcoat. However, little Mercy doesn’t seem to have had too much trouble adapting to the jet-set lifestyle she is currently living since moving from her native Malawi seven months ago. She has often been seen dressed head to foot in designer clothes and has dined in the world’s most exclusive restaurants. Reports this week have suggested that the 51-year-old is keen to try for another child with her toyboy lover, Jesus Luz, 22. The singer already has four children, Lourdes, 14, with her former personal trainer Carlos Leon and son Rocco, nine, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie as well as her two adopted African orphans. The US singer has been with Luz for almost 18 months, meeting him during a photo shoot in Brazil shortly after she divorced Ritchie. Madonna performed yesterday at George Clooney’s Hope For Haiti Now benefit concert, which raised more than $30million. The star-studded fundraiser which took place in New York and London also included Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder.
What a little doll!! She truly is the prettiest princess of all. I bet Mercy had herself a fabulous birthday this year, no doubt a much more festive one than the little girl is prolly used to from her orphanage days. Mercy is coming up on her 1 year anniversary as Madonna‘s daughter so she’s still got a lot of celebratin’ to look forward to in 2010. Let’s send all our love and birthday wishes to Mercy James today. Happy Birthday, Mercy!

David and I made it to Detroit safe and sound and without a single delay. Altho the rain was falling steadily when we left, we got to the airport in record time (no lie) and managed to fly out without incident. Upon arrival, Sarah and Mark picked us up and whisked us off to Royal Oak so that we could dine at one of my fave restaurants in the world, Little Tree Sushi:
After we supped to our hearts’ collective content, we made our way to Berkley, MI to enjoy a few martinis at Amici’s Living Room … another of my fave places on Earth. It’s cold here but the warmth of happy friendship is keeping us nice and toasty.
Because this trip is so last-minute, we’re kinda taking it all by ear. Today we are heading downtown to visit the Detroit Institute of Art and then tonight we are going to cheer on the Detroit Red Wings against the LA Kings at the Joe Louis Arena!
LA may be my new home, sweet, home but I will forever root for the Detroit Red Wings :) I am very excited for today, it shall be fun!!

Diva Mama Latina in full effect
Here are a few supercute photos of Jennifer Lopez, La Diva Latina herself in all her glory, chillin’ with her twin babies — Emme Maribel and Maximillian David — by a pool at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, FL yesterday afternoon. With her head securely wrapped in a bright red babushka and her children all dolled up in their finest finery, J. Lo and the kiddies enjoyed a lovely afternoon poolside:
You gotta love that J. Lo‘s little girl Emme was all diva-ed out in her fabulous sundress and sunglasses and her little man Max was rockin’ a Burberry bathing suit. Fab-u-lous. It’s crazy how quickly these little babies grew up … it seems like just yesterday that they were born and now they’re little kids already. I bet Jennifer Lopez is a fabulous mother … it really looks like a fun time was had by all.

Protecting the bulge
Victoria Beckham, who recently jetted from LA to London to take care of some business affairs at the start of this week, has made her way to Milan, Italy to spend some time with her hubby David Beckham who is currently on loan to the AC Milan football club. As you may recall, Becks got unceremoniously groped by an overzealous Italian TV host earlier this week for a bit on Italian television so it makes sense that Vicki B. would want to fly to his side to ensure that no other women get grabby with her man. I understand that Becks was happy to have VB in town, as he’s been taking cooking lessons from Gordon Ramsey to impress her with his skills:
Perhaps Christmas dinner with the Ramsays has inspired the Beckhams to hone their cooking skills. With apron in hand, David was spotted leaving a cookery class in Milan with wife Victoria this week where he is learning how to make amazing pasta. The 34-year-old footballer, who is on loan to [AC Milan], is said to be keen to impress his chef pal Gordon with his culinary technique. Victoria, 35, joined her husband for the class after jetting in to meet him in Italy. David was dressed down in jeans and a T-shirt with a casual jacket, while mother-of-three Posh looked her usual glamorous self in a stylish mini trenchcoat. After their class on Thursday the pair climbed into their black Audi sports car, with Victoria hiding behind a pair of sunglasses. The next day Becks did some training with his team before meeting up with Victoria for a spot of shopping.
I’m sure VB is all bizness when it comes to taking care of her man, I doubt anyone will be gettin’ even relatively close to his junk while she’s around. I think it’s very cool that Becks has taken up cooking classes in downtime away from the soccer field. For some reason, I cannot see Vicki B. as a cook … so I’m sure she, too, appreciates Becks‘s efforts in the kitchen. It’s unclear how long VB will remain in Milan before she jets back to SoCal to tend to the children … but it’s nice to see Les Beckhams reunited once again.

Conan says thanks and goodbye ... with class
Last night Conan O’Brien hosted his final episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien just about 7 months after he was hired to replace Jay Leno as host. As we are all well aware by now, NBC decided to move Leno back to his old gig, giving O’Brien the shaft (and a hefty severance check) much to his fans’ bitter dismay. As you might expect from Conan O’Brien, he issued a heartfelt thank you and goodbye not only to his legion of fans but to the network that treated him so badly … Conan went out with the utmost class and integrity:
An emotional Conan O’Brien has bid adieu to NBC, saying that walking away from US television’s long-running “The Tonight Show” was the most difficult decision of his life. At times fighting back tears, O’Brien thanked his legions of fans Friday night for making “a sad situation joyous and inspirational,” urging them to fight cynicism over the ugly public feud that ended his seven-month tenure at the legendary late-night comedy show. The audience at Universal Studios in Burbank, California replied in kind, giving him a standing ovation and chanting “Conan! Conan! Conan!” repeatedly. After an experiment placing the funnyman’s predecessor in prime time garnered meager ratings and frustrated the network’s affiliates, NBC television announced it would bring Jay Leno back to the show he hosted for 17 years. The settlement landed O’Brien a reported 45-million-dollar buyout — with the red-haired comedian pocketing around 32 million and the balance going to his staff — in a bid by NBC to end what has been a public relations disaster once and for all. But during his last monologue for the show, the embattled host even found time to thank NBC, a network he has called home for over 20 years. “Yes, we have our differences right now and yes, we’re going to go our separate ways,” he went on. “But this company has been my home for most of my adult life. I am enormously proud of the work we have done together, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible.” He also delivered a few last jabs to his NBC paymasters, a practice that had become a nightly staple of his opening monologues ever since the saga broke out into public view. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced, “we have exactly one hour to steal every single item in this studio.” Leno and other comedians at other networks had also used their shows to joke about NBC’s controversial move. Never one to pass an opportunity for self-deprecating humor, O’Brien told his audience: “I just want to make one thing clear to everyone listening out there right now. I will do nudity.” Among his guests were actor Tom Hanks, rocker Neil Young, comedian Will Ferrell and Steve Carell, star of the hit television series “The Office.” Carell gave O’Brien, 46, an “exit interview.” Asked if we would consider working for NBC again in the future, O’Brien replied: “I don’t know. I can’t say at this time.” Although he was calling it quits with a show he loved and admired, O’Brien told his fans that “I really feel this should be a happy moment.”
One thing’s for sure, Conan O’Brien is a gentleman’s gentleman. NBC was lucky to have him in their employ and they will suffer for his loss. I’ve never been particularly fond of late night television talk shows but I have always been a fan of Conan O’Brien the man. I know his words were not hollow when he graciously thanked NBC for all the opportunities they gave him, including his short stint as Tonight Show host. The man is classy beyond belief … no question. After the jump, watch video of Conan giving his personal thanks to his fans last night and read the prepared text (which is a bit different than his adlibbed speech on the show last night) of his final, goodbye message … More »
Donations are still coming in
Celebs all over the globe, broadcasting from different cities across the US and abroad, came together last night for a multi-network telethon called Hope for Haiti Now in an effort to inspire viewers at home to donate funds for the relief effort in Haiti. George Clooney, who organized the telethon, played host for the event while various celebs manned the phone lines to take in donations and others performed live thruout the show:
Solemn music from the world’s biggest stars served as the soundtrack to Friday night’s telethon for Haiti relief, but the fundraiser ended with Wyclef Jean shouting “Enough of the moping, let’s rebuild Haiti.” Organizers did not immediately say how much money was raised during the two-hour “Hope for Haiti Now” show, but donations will continue to flow in as the phone lines remained open and the night’s musical performances are sold on iTunes. A moving performance by Alicia Keys opened the telethon. Actor George Clooney, serving as the Los Angeles host for the event, made the first appeal for donations to raise money for relief efforts after last week’s devastating earthquake. “The Haitian people need our help,” Clooney said. “They need to know they are not alone. They need to know that we still care.” The show was one of the most widely distributed prime-time televised benefits in history, appearing simultaneously on more than 25 networks — including CNN, where Anderson Cooper reported live from Haiti during the event. Children left homeless and orphaned by the earthquake were front and center. “Hundreds and thousands of children in Haiti are lost and they’re looking for their parents,” actress Halle Berry said. “Please, look into your heart. Please, help these children of Haiti.” Cooper, in one of several live appearances, was joined by 5-year-old Monley, a Haitian boy who was pulled alive — but severely dehydrated — from the rubble nearly eight days after the quake. Ten members of his family, including both parents, were killed. Actor Samuel L. Jackson, walking in front of a phone bank staffed by celebrities, assured viewers that “100 percent of your donations will go directly to organizations that are on the ground right now.” More than 100 actors, musicians and other celebrities answered phones in New York and Los Angeles — after professional operators first talked to donors. “Thank you so much for your donation,” actress Reese Witherspoon told one caller. “You can’t imagine how much love and great, wonderful energy is here today. People are doing everything they can to make a difference in these people’s lives.” “I’m just calling to help out,” the male donor said. “I couldn’t donate a lot, but what I could I did donate” … Wyclef Jean — a native of Haiti and the New York host for the event — talked about his visit last week to Haiti. “I was there to clear away concrete and pull away rubble,” Jean said. “I carried bodies of my people to the cemetery.” Jean’s “Yele Haiti Foundation” will receive some of the money raised. “From the ashes we shall rise, so please give what you can,” he said. Bruce Springsteen performed “We Shall Overcome,” a spiritual that became the anthem of the U.S civil rights movement. “This is a small prayer for Haiti,” Springsteen said as he began. Other musical performers included Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Jennifer Hudson, Madonna, Dave Matthews and Neil Young … The show — presented by MTV — was carried on CNN.com/Live and the CNN iPhone application. Other networks airing “Hope for Haiti” included ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT. The show was also aired on the Discovery’s eco-lifestyle television network, Planet Green. Proceeds from the telethon will benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, the U.N. World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation, and the Clinton Bush Haiti Foundation.
The performances were solemn, yes, but the images that were broadcast of the suffering in Haiti were devastatingly heartbreaking. If you were particularly fond of any one performance, you can purchase a special edition album of performances from iTunes with the proceeds going to the charities associated with Hope for Haiti Now. After the jump, check out a short video of highlights from last night’s telethon and watch a beautiful acoustic performance of Like a Prayer by Madonna … More »
Yesterday we got to see a bunch of really cool promo movie stills from the new biopic on The Runaways and last month we got to check out the first movie poster and video trailer. Today, we get to check out a brand new teaser poster for the film which will make it’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival this Sunday night and will open in theaters in March:
“The Runaways” makes its big Sundance debut this Sunday in Park City, and we have something that will keep your rocker hearts beating until then: an exclusive first look at the movie’s teaser poster. We know, we know: now that you’ve gotten to see plenty more stills and a clip from the Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning-headlined flick, a “teaser” isn’t exactly the sort of juice you’re looking for. But once you click the handy “read more” link below, we have a feeling, you’re going to think this art work is quite literally the bomb … In case you’re scratching your head in wonderment: the fruity explosive device is a nod to The Runaways’ famous hit song, “Cherry Bomb,” which we saw Kristen rock out to in the teaser trailer.
Not a bad poster for a teaser. Even tho the film will premiere at Sundance in a couple of days and in theaters in a couple of months, I’m glad they are just teasing this film little by little. I’d rather see a few small things leading up to the film’s release rather than a bunch of stuff that will give it all away before the movie is even available. I am really excited for The Runaways. I am really curious to read the reviews of the film once it screens at Sundance this weekend.

"I don’t know if it makes sense for her."
Julie Benz gave a new interview to OK! magazine regarding the events that took place during the shocking season 4 finale of Dexter last month wherein she tells the magazine that she does not believe that her character, Rita Bennett-Morgan, will be returning to the show in the upcoming 5th season. For those of you who have yet to see the finale ep which aired last month, you may want to avoid reading any further. For the rest of you, read why Benz believes this is so:
Julie Benz … tells OK! that not only was she shocked by her deadly departure from award-winning Showtime hit Dexter, but that, for the sake of the show and its fans, she won’t be joining Dexter’s dead dad as another nagging voice in his head. “My only fear would be that it would cheapen the impact and I don’t know if it makes sense for her,” Julie reveals of her character Rita, who was found dead in her tub at the end of last season, making a comeback. However, Julie does admit to OK! that, “if it makes sense and doesn’t cheapen the impact of the finale,” she would come back on Dexter, “for the fans, but it would have to be in a powerful way.” Seeing as how Michael C. Hall’s serial-killer-stalking serial killer title character regularly chatters away with his dead father on the series, the possibility of Julie coming back for the finale even as a ghost isn’t beyond the realm of believability. But Julie does admit to being shocked that her character, who played Michael’s wife on Dexter, was killed off of the show. “That was my family for five years. It was a little shock. I was not expecting it and I wasn’t prepared, but that’s the nature of being a supporting player on the show. It wasn’t my choice,” Julie discusses her departure with OK!, “I wanted to be there forever, but my job was to help facilitate the story line. Its aggressive story telling and it shows creativity and passion. I’m interested to see how it plays out, but it became one of the most talked about moments in television.”
As you may recall, I spoke with Julie Benz shortly after the season 4 finale of Dexter aired and I asked her this exact question and she told me then that she didn’t believe she would be returning to the show as a ghost or apparition. It would seem that her opinion has not changed since then. In any event, Benz has found a new gig (albeit a short one) on Desperate Housewives and I have no doubt that she will find more work elsewhere. She is a hugely talented actress and I’ll be that folks are clamoring to get her on their shows or in their movies. Here’s hoping 2010 will be her best year yet!

The TV Guide
In just a few hours, David and I will be winging our way back East for the weekend so that we can organize a surprise birthday party for my dad back home in Detroit. The trip came as sort of a last-minute idea so we’ve been scrambling a bit. I’m hoping the weather will hold off for a few hours so that we can depart without any sort of delay:
While I’m not terribly keen on the cold weather back home, I guess I’m kinda lookin’ forward to seeing the snow capped Evergreen trees back home. I’m sure I’ll find them entirely charming for about 10 minutes before I decide I want to return to the relative warmth (by comparison) of SoCal. I’m really hoping that today’s travel goes smoothly … if so, we get in early enough to enjoy the night in Detroit. I already know where I want to go for dinner once we arrive.
Please pardon the shortness of today but things will be back to normal tomorrow. Happy Weekend, y’all!!

Oh La La!
Happily marrieds Beyoncé and Jay-Z, collectively known as B-Jay, have made their way to Paris, France this week lookin’ all kinds of fabulous. Here are a couple photos of couple as they made their way out of their posh hotel and into the streets of Paris last night:
As you may recall, earlier this week we learned that Beyoncé told Allure magazine that she is ready to rest and relax (but NOT have a baby just yet) after workin’ so hard over the past few years … it’s unclear if B-Jay are in Paris to begin that rest and relaxation but I think it’s about time for a little vacay. We don’t get to see much of these two together … now that B is in relaxation mode, mebbe she’ll be able to spend more time with her hubby. What a novel idea.

... for the Minnesota Vikings football team?!
Great news for Prince fans today … his Purple Majesty has written a new song entitled Purple and Gold. Great news for the Minnesota Vikings football team today … the team has had a new theme song entitled Purple and Gold written for them. Yes, that’s right folks … Prince, who hails from the great State of Minnesota, has written this new song for his beloved Minnesota Vikings. Who knew he was a big football fan?
Prince released a new song about the Minnesota Vikings. Prince said he hadn’t seen the Vikings play in a very long time, until he went to the game against the Dallas Cowboys last week. “I saw the future,” said Prince. He said he went home that night, wrote the song, “Purple and Gold,” and said the song came easy and fast. The Vikings love it and plan to put it on their website. The new song by Prince was released just ahead of the NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints.
HMMM … I guess Prince really is a huge Vikings fan after all. Here is a pic of him at the game mentioned above where he “saw the future”:
To be honest, the song doesn’t really sound like a typical sports anthem … it is very Prince. Check out the lyrics and listen to a clip of the song after the jump … More »
Shows her love for Dick
On Tuesday we learned that Britney Spears has re-signed as celebrity spokesmodel for Candie’s and today we see new photos of Britney apparently taking her modeling gig seriously. Our dear Britney has been on holiday for the past few weeks, since she ended her world tour last November in Australia so it’s about time she gets back to the gym and resume her work out regimen. Here are a couple photos of Britney as she made her way out of the gym last night:
Typically, preparing for a court date involves putting on a smart outfit in the hope of making a good impression. Not so for Britney Spears, who instead paid a visit to the gym to gear up for her impending appearance later today. The pop superstar, 28, appeared to have had an energetic workout as she left the Spectrum Sports Club in Thousand Oaks, California dripping with sweat. She wore a t-shirt with a picture of former U.S. President Richard Nixon printed on it with his nickname ‘Dick’ underneath, and a pair of white loose-fitting tracksuit bottoms. Britney had her court appearance rescheduled after she missed a hearing last week to go shopping. It was claimed that Spears missed the court date over fears she would be besieged by paparazzi, but she was spotted at a luxury shopping centre last Friday near her home in Calabasas, California. Her failure to show up angered Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz, who ordered the singer to be in court today. Goetz insisted the hearing will go ahead, adding: ‘The court was supposed to meet with Ms. Spears and there was a misunderstanding. I’m going to continue the matter until next Friday at 1:30 and she will be here.’
Firstly, good for Britters for gettin’ back into the swing of physical fitness. While I’m happy that she was able to take some time off so that she could relax, I’m also happy to see that she is serious about staying fit enough to take care of her biz. Secondly, I understand that Britney‘s appearance in court today won’t be a serious matter at all. I believe the judge just wants to check in with her to see how her conservatorship is going. I don’t believe there are plans to end her father’s legal control over her person and business affairs, not just yet. We should know more about what’s what after she makes her appearance in court today. She looks well and I’m hoping things work to her best advantage in court today … whatever that may be.

Last month we got our first look at the new biopic The Runaways which stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and today we get to see a few new promo pics from the film. The Runaways will be making its film festival debut at the Sundance Film Festival this month but these pics give us a peek at what’s to come:
The Runaways follows two friends, Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself-and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.
Apparition will open THE RUNAWAYS in over 1400 theaters on March 19. The music-fueled story of the ground-breaking, all girl, teenage rock band of the 1970s stars Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Danielle Riley Keough, Scout Taylor-Compton (TV’s “Arrested Development”), and Michael Shannon. The film marks the first theatrical collaboration between Apparition and River Road Entertainment. Executive Produced by Joan Jett and Produced by River Road and Linson Entertainment, THE RUNAWAYS will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday, January 24.
Brace yourselves, folks … K. Stew and Dakota will get all kissy-kissy in The Runaways so we can all be on the look-out for that. The image above may be a prelude to the girl’s kissing scene. After the jump, check out a few more promo photos from the film for a better taste of what’s in store … More »

With aunt Josefin NOT mama Elin
While embattled papa Tiger Woods is reportedly holed up in a sex rehab clinic in Mississippi, his children — Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel — spent the day yesterday with their aunt Josefin Lonnborg (who is an identical twin of her sister Elin Nordegren) having a grand ol’ time as if they didn’t have a care in the (sea) world … behold:
Sam and Charlie Woods were spotted at the marine mammal park with their aunt, Josefin Lonnborg, who is their mom Elin’s twin sister, in town visiting from Europe. “The family took a tour of Sea World that lasted for a couple hours,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They had a wonderful time, everyone was laughing and enjoying the park.” Sam, 2, and Charlie, 11 months, looked happy as they fed the animals then watched the popular “Believe” show starring Shamu the Killer Whale. A couple of weeks ago, the children and their mother Elin temporarily moved into a friend’s home in Windermere, Fla., not far from the Woods family estate. “The house is beautiful and they seem to enjoy being there for now,” a source in Orlando tells PEOPLE.
With all the insane family drama going on between Tiger and Elin, it’s fortuitous that the kids are still young enough to A.) not really understand what is going on and B.) be distracted with stuff like this to keep them occupied and away from the drama. Sam and Charlie are so cute … it’s nice that they can get away from everything with auntie Josefin when their mother is bizzy elsewhere. I’m sure Sam knows the difference but I wonder if Charlie has a hard time recognizing his mother from her twin sister.

"I touched it but it's small. David you have conned us all ... It's all a trick."
David Beckham and his bulge fell prey to Italian TV comic Elena Di Cioccio who ambushed him on the streets of Milan recently for her TV show Le Iene (which translates to The Hyenas in English). Di Cioccio took it upon herself to grab David Beckham‘s family jewels to determine by touch if his package is really as impressive as it appears in his Emporio Armani Underwear ads. Here are a few screencaps of Di Cioccio‘s grabby ploy to find out for herself what sort of heat David Beckham is packin’ in his undies:
David Beckham fell victim to a wacky prank on Italian TV when a female presenter wearing yellow rubber gloves tried to grab his ‘crown jewels’. Blonde TV star Elena Di Cioccio carried out the ‘assault’ on a stunned Beckham, 34, as part of a popular TV show called Le Iene (The Hyenas). He was in the middle of a television interview when she pounced on the unsuspecting footballer in the street. Beckham was clearly unamused and was immediately hustled away by his security into a nearby hotel. But not before giving Ms Di Cioccio a filthy look. Di Cioccio targeted the former Manchester United star – who is now on loan at AC Milan – saying she wanted to see ‘how he measured up’ after it emerged he had been dropped as a Giorgio Armani underwear model by Cristiano Ronaldo. During his two years with the Italian fashion house, England midfielder Beckham was thought to have benefited from a spot of airbrushing to accentuate his six pack – and his package. Shortly after the campaign, in which Beckham was seen wearing a tight white pair of Armani pants, there was suspicion that he had benefited from some computer enhancement in the brief department. Although at the time his spokesman refused to comment on the reports and Armani also remained tight lipped. A source close the footballing superstar told Mail Online: ‘It was done in jest and that’s how David took it. She didn’t actually grab it, it was an attempt. She just got his trouser leg.’ Ms Di Cioccio told viewers: ‘Off the pitch we have seen fascinating photographs of David Beckham in his underpants and seemingly very well endowed and even his wife says that he is well equipped and calls him Golden Balls. ”Well the image may have slipped slightly as he has been replaced in the Armani campaign by a younger footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, but we wanted to find out if he was as well endowed as the pictures suggest or if they were touched up.’ The programme then cut to the outside of a smart Milan restaurant where Beckham was giving an interview to an American TV network while Ms Di Cioccio could be seen putting on the yellow rubber gloves. She then worked her way past the camera crew and attempted to touch Beckham’s testicles who jumped back with a start and looked at her stony faced before he security guards stepped in and dragged her away. As she was led away Ms Di Cioccio called out:’I touched it but it’s small. David you have conned us all. What did you use cotton wool ? It’s all a trick.’ Insiders at Le Iene said: ‘It was just a joke and we hope that Beckham took it in the spirit it was meant.’ … A spokesman for AC Milan said:’We are aware of the incident and we have spoken to David about it but we have no comment to make.’ Today Beckham was in training with his AC Milan team mates ahead of Sunday’s crunch derby with Jose Mourinho’s cross city rivals Inter – apparently none the worse following the incident.
I know this is terrible because had this Di Ciccio woman intended to harm Becks, she deffo could have … but you gotta laugh a little bit when a dude gets his junk grabbed by a bold woman like this. You gotta admit, Elena Di Ciccio has got balls! After the jump, check out a photo of Becks giving Di Ciccio the stink eye as he drove away and watch video of this incident as it was broadcast on Le Lene … More »

It’s been raining cats and dogs here in SoCal (almost literally) so it’s about time that David and I get out of Dodge. We’ve so had it with all this unsavory weather that we are jetting off to enjoy the more temperate climes of Detroit, MI:
Actually, this trip back home to Detroit has been in the works for a while. We are going back East to surprise my dad for this birthday so we’ll be taking off for Detroit tomorrow afternoon for the rest of the weekend. Trust me, I’m not all that jazzed about the cold weather back home but, meh, it’ll be a nice change of pace for a few days.
Today we are expecting another rainstorm so I’ll prolly be staying in all day long, again. With all the packing and laundry I’ve got to take care of, the weather is perfect. Because we fly out tomorrow at midday, it’ll be a shorter day here on the blog … but things will be back to normal from Saturday on. Hope the weather is treating you well wherever you are :)

Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, the principal stars of the CW TV series The Vampire Diaries, share the cover of the new issue of Nylon magazine this month. This ménage of actors will return to the TV airwaves in an all new ep of the series TONIGHT but right now we get to check out their hawt three-way chemistry in the pages of Nylon magazine beforehand:
Those well acquainted with Serena and Little J may find this fact hard to believe: Vampire Diaries, The CW’s budding show about bloodsuckers and the teen girls who love and / or get eaten by them, has double the number of Gossip Girl viewers. What makes it such a hit? It could be the current cultural zeitgeist of Edward, Bella, Sookie, Bill, and immortal drama. It could be the lingering teen appeal of star Nina Dobrev (remember her from Degrassi?). Or maybe it’s just damn fun and funny. Luke Crisell – who calls the show “like Dawson’s Creek with less talk and more action” – sat down with the cast of and asked them himself.
On the similarities between Twilight, True Blood, and Vampire Diaries:
“When the show first started… you automatically thought Twilight. But once you continue, there’s a whole other side of it that goes a lot deeper… It’s about letting everyone know that we’re different but we all respect each other.” — Nina Dobrev
On the sudden success of the show:
“Do I thing the show would be successful as it is, if it weren’t for all that? No.” — Paul Wesley
Hey Ian, is there any similarity between LOST and Vampire Diaries?
“[My character] is gonna be the coolest character on television. There was no doubt about it. It reminded me of Sawyer, Josh Holloway’s character on LOST. He was always the character I secretly wished I could play.”
I didn’t think I was going to but I have really become a fan of this show. I started watching it just because it was new but I didn’t expect to get wrapped up in the storyline … at all. I’m not sure what it is, exactly, but I keep wanting to tune in to see what is going on in the shadowy town of Mystic Falls. I’m glad the show is returning from hiatus tonight because, as I understand it, things are about to get really interesting. But, I digress. After the jump, check out a few photos of Nina, Paul and Ian from this issue of Nylon magazine … More »
The young prince presses the flesh with the Aussies
When last we checked in with Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, he was making his way around New Zealand to press the flesh with his loyal subjects … but he has since made his way to Australia to tour the country there and continue the flesh pressing. Here are a few photos of Prince Wills enjoying the various aspects of Oz and read some deets about his short tour Down Unda which included gettin’ a smooch from a lovely young Aussie:
If Australia has taken Prince William to its heart, then the feeling is very much reciprocated. On the last day of his hugely popular visit to the antipodes, William spoke from the heart about his passion for the country – and even thanked the nation’s female population for continuing their long-held tradition of kissing members of the Royal Family. The prince – who has been kissed by hundreds of women, young and old, during his many impromptu walkabouts over the last three days – was jokingly referring to the moment during the visit of his father, Prince Charles, in 1979 … William was speaking at historic Government House in Melbourne after being invited to give an address to mark the country’s annual national celebration, Australia Day. The Prince was given a royal fanfare as he entered and such was the crush amid the 1,000-strong crowd of guests invited to hear him speak, that one woman guest fainted in front of him. Earlier William had made the most of his last 24 hours in the country, mixing tea and sympathy with those affected by last year’s devastating bushfires with one of the country’s national religions – cricket – as well as popping into the Australian Open tennis … A combination of record temperatures, high winds and forests dried by years of drought created a series of infernos that swept through vast areas of the state of Victoria last February, killing 173, destroying more than 2,000 homes and displacing more than 7,50 people. Out in the countryside William listened to the harrowing stories of those who survived the country’s worst ever natural disaster and saw for himself the devastation caused by the ravaging flames … During his visit William also met several Australian cricketing legends including Matthew Hayden and Brett Lee, who had travelled down to Flowerdale to give some of the local children a lesson, and was even persuaded to take part in a game. It was like the Ashes all over again as one of the world’s most famous Englishmen stretched his arms in a mock warm-up before he picked up a tennis ball and bowled to Matthew Hayden, Australia’s legendary opening batsman, who was standing at the crease. ‘This is it, this is the moment,’ said the prince as, with a flick of his wrist, he sent the ball flying down to the Australian batting legend.
Much like he charmed New Zealand, Prince Wills appears to have charmed the hearts and minds of the people of Australia as well. I imagine it is quite a spectacle wherever members of the Royal Family appear but it sounds like a fun time whenever Prince William is around. He seems so down-to-Earth and approachable. I’m not saying I’m a fan of monarchies or anything but being ruled over by a prince like William doesn’t sound at all like that bad gig ;)
We may have only just learned last week that Dannii Minogue is pregs with her first child but we’ve had plenty of opportunity to see her out and about with baby bump in tow. Earlier this week we saw photos of Dannii and babydaddy/model Kris Smith arriving in London from Dubai (where they spent the weekend together) and now we know why they had to be in the UK this week. Dannii, Kris and Bump attended the National Television Awards last night to celebrate X-Factor‘s win as Most Popular Talent Show … behold:
As co-stars on the X Factor their relationship has been marred by rumours of rivalry and mutual dislike. But there is nothing like a baby to heal old wounds and it seems Dannii Minogue’s newly announced pregnancy has brought her and Cheryl Cole together. Cheryl stroked Dannii’s three-month bump as the grinning pair embraced in the audience at the National Television Awards at the O2 Arena. They were celebrating the X Factor’s triumph as Most Popular Talent Show. The two celebrated with Simon Cowell, who arrived with not one but two of his former girlfriends, as the show scooped the most competitive of the gongs. Cowell appeared delighted as he accepted the award from former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips. And he was quick to point out that Strictly had taken the award last year – before Arlene lost her job as judge. Cowell then confounded his fellow judges by dedicating the award to his dentist. It was Dannii’s first public engagement since she announced her pregnancy. The 38-year-old disguised signs of a bump with a full-skirted black and white striped vintage prom dress, which she wore with towering red heels. She kissed and hugged boyfriend Kris Smith, 31, as they arrived for the show. Dannii joined Tess Daly onstage to present the first award, and the two talked about her baby news. ‘I would just like to wish Dannii huge congratulations with her baby,’ said a smiling Tess. ‘Thank you, I’m joining the club, replied Dannii, referring to Tess’s two children. Tess then joked: ‘If you have twins you could have your very own Jedward.’ Dannii’s show the X Factor is nominated for an NTA in the Most Popular Talent Show category. But Dannii said she did not know whether she would be part of the new series. She said: ‘We don’t find out until April what they’re going to do… but I would love to be a part of the show.’
I am gonna love this Bump Watch! I’m so happy that Dannii was happy to attend the NTAs not only to bask in X-Factor‘s win but to bask in her own pregnancy news. I’m sure she didn’t mind showing off her hawt babydaddy either, lawdy! It will depend on when the next season of X-Factor begins filming but I would not be surprised at all if Dannii got edged out of the show due her to pregnancy needs. Whatever happens on that end, I am thrilled that she is going to be a new mummy. Let the Bump Watch! continue :)
Scheduled for a 2011 release
Happy news for fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise (and for Johnny Depp fans in particular) … the 4th installment of the series is a go and is scheduled to begin filming this Summer for a 2011 release. This new fourth film has already been given its name … get yourselves ready for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides:
Disney has its heading, and they’ve presumably soothed Johnny Depp after Dick Cook’s departure because Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is set to sail. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fourth Pirates installment is scheduled to begin shooting this summer in Hawaii, and Rob Marshall will take the wheel as previously rumored. Depp is the only cast member confirmed to be on board, and the film is aiming for a summer 2011 release date. For awhile it seemed as though Pirates 4 was going to be shoved aside in favor of The Lone Ranger. But that proved to be idle rumor (or hopeful, depending on whether you prefer Tonto to Sparrow), and they decided to go with the tried and unsteady Captain Jack instead. It’s believed he’ll be chasing the Fountain of Youth this time, as indicated by the sequel grab in At World’s End, and they’ve optioned Tim Powers’ novel to give them an idea or two. Of course, it’s only January. A lot can happen between now and summertime, especially to a fourth installment of a franchise, and particularly when the third installment wasn’t very enjoyable. Perhaps Disney and Marshall will be unable to decide on a villain, or the budget will skyrocket higher than the studio likes. With all this talk of angst and Twilight, will the teens and tweens still spend their money on a drunk pirate, even if he wears eyeliner? Come March, we could have a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot that’ll focus on Jack Sparrow’s teen years and his struggle to find his sea legs. All bets are off with these things, especially if there’s a spin-off series just ripe for adaptation.
MOTHEREFFING HELL!! This article is SO right … it is entirely feasible that Disney could decide to reboot the entire franchise (much like studio bosses have decided to do with the Spider-Man franchise) and tell lame-ass films on a young Ensign Jack Sparrow in his younger years. My gut tells me that Disney isn’t that stupid, tho. As much as I didn’t really love the last film, I am looking forward to this new one. I guess I never realized how much I liked the Pirates films until they were gone for a few years. I’m glad to see that they aren’t wasting any time either … I think it’s perfectly reasonable to wait until next year for this new film. What do y’all think … who’s excited?
'Avatar', 'An Education' & 'The Hurt Locker' up for 8 awards each
Awards season here in the US is heating up, as we all know, but that doesn’t mean that our friends on the other side of the pond don’t want in on the action. The nominations for The British Academy Film and Television Awards were announced in the UK earlier today and it looks like it’s gonna be a dogfight to win those BAFTAs this year. Avatar, An Education and The Hurt Locker each received 8 nominations in a various categories, many of which will pit these 3 films against one another for ultimate supremacy … here are some deets about this year’s BAFTA noms:
Sci-fi adventure ‘Avatar’ – which won two Golden Globes on Sunday – is up against British hit ‘An Education’ and war movie ‘The Hurt Locker’ in the Best Film category, while all the movie’s respective creators, James Cameron, Lone Scherfig and Kathryn Bigelow, are up for Best Director. Others in the running for Best Film are ‘Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire’ and ‘Up in the Air’, while Neill Blomkamp and Quentin Tarantino are the remaining contenders in the Best Director category for ‘District 9′ and ‘Inglourious Basterds’ Meryl Streep gained her 13th BAFTA nomination after being recognised for her role in ‘Julie and Julia’ and will fight it out in the Leading Actress category alongside Carey Mulligan for ‘An Education’, ‘Coco Before Chanel’ star Audrey Tatou, Saoirse Ronan for ‘The Lovely Bones’ and Gabourey Sidibe for her portrayal of an abused teenager in ‘Precious…’. ‘Up in the Air’ star George Clooney is up for the Leading Actor prize along with Jeff Bridges for ‘Crazy Heart’, Colin Firth for ‘A Single Man’, ‘The Hurt Locker’ star Jeremy Renner and Andy Serkis for ‘Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll’. Other nominations include Alec Baldwin and Stanley Tucci in the Best Supporting Actor category for ‘It’s Complicated’ and ‘The Lovely Bones’ respectively, while Best Supporting Actress nominees included Kristin Scott Thomas for ‘Nowhere Boy’ and ‘Up in the Air’ star Anna Kendrick. The BAFTA Awards – which stands for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards – take place at London’s Royal Opera House on February 21.
Yes, these noms look familiar … which means that nomination announcements for other awards shows will look just as similar. In the case of the BAFTAs, tho, there are always a few unrecognized British films in the mix for award contention. In the animated film category, Coraline has a better chance at winning against Up considering it is roughly a British film (well, at least it was based on a distinctly British story, written by a British author). If it’s gonna win any of the big awards, I think the BAFTA is its best chance. In any event, congrats to all the nominees today. Click HERE to see a full list of 2010 BAFTA award nominations.
Welp, it’s official … Conan O’Brien and NBC have finally reached a deal wherein NBC will play O’Brien for essentially firing him from his contract to host The Tonight Show. As you may recall, O’Brien issued a letter last week that informed NBC that he would NOT be staying with the network in breach of his contract with them (ie. doing The Tonight Show at 12:05AM) and the matter fell to NBC to figure out a way to pay him accordingly for their eff up. After much negotiation, a deal was finally agreed upon … and Conan O’Brien will get at least $32 million (and up to $45 million) for his trouble:
Conan O’Brien and NBC worked out their final conflict hours ago and have reached a $45 million settlement … and we’ve learned it’s a sweeter deal for Conan than anyone thought. Network sources tell TMZ the “mitigation” clause was taken off the table. Translation — Conan will get a severance of $32.5 million, regardless of whether he gets another hosting gig. Not bad for seven months work. As we first reported, NBC will pay $7.5 million to Conan’s “Tonight Show” staff — and our sources believe the network added several thousand more to the pot at the last minute. In addition, NBC will pay a whopping $4.5 million to the executive producer. Conan’s last show is Friday. We’re told NBC hasn’t decided who will replace Conan for the period between Monday and the Winter Olympics.
As crappy as ALL of this is all around, at least Conan will be gettin’ a nice chunk of change for all the trouble he’s been thru. If he so desires, he could retire with his $45 million and live a nice, long life of workless leisure. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took some time off for a while after this fiasco before he even entertains a new gig … but Conan is a pro and if the right offer comes along, I’m guessing he’ll take it and will be back on TV soon. None of this is ideal but I’m happy to know that Conan and his staff aren’t gettin’ royally screwed by NBC‘s eff-up. The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien is dunzo, y’all. Let’s wish it a hearty Peace the Spork Out, officially.
At long last
In What Will They Think Of Next to Get Impressionable Teens and Moms with Disposable Income to Part with Their Money news, plans are in the works to release the Twilight Saga in the form of graphic novels. Twlight: The Graphic Novel vol. 1 is slated for release in March, here is our first look at the book cover:
I’m delighted to announce, exclusively, that Yen Press will publish Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 on March 16, with a first printing of 350,000 copies. Here’s a first glimpse at the book’s cover, as well as an exclusive peek at one of its panels (for a full ten-page excerpt, and the entire Q&A with Stephenie Meyer, see the issue of EW that goes on sale this Friday). What strikes me, looking at the book, is how faithfully, and how beautifully, artist Young Kim has translated Meyer’s original vision. Kim, who has a fine arts background—in fact, this is her first foray into graphic novels—didn’t just read the book; she absorbed it. Her Bella is the Bella I had in my mind’s eye the first time I read Twilight; her Edward is the Edward I always imagined. It took me back to reading Twilight pre-movie: Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson faded into the background.
After the jump, read the rest of this Entertainment Weekly article that includes an excerpt from the interview with Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and check out a page from Twilight: The Graphic Novel vol. 1 … More »
I believe she paid and everything!
Some of you may be too young to remember the days when Winona Ryder got busted for shoplifting here in Los Angeles (an event that sparked the creation of the infamous Free Winona t-shirt in the days before such things became an instant sensation on Facebook and Twitter) but these new images of Winona Ryder out for a run-of-the-mill grocery shopping trip reminded me of that felonious time in Winona‘s life … especially since the first thing I wondered was if she paid for her groceries or not:
I have to presume that Winona did pay since she walked out of the store with grocery bags but it might’ve behooved the merchant to pat her down on the way out, just in case she stuffed a smoked turkey in her coat or something. It’s funny, celebs can be remembered for famous roles or famous romances … but they can also be remembered for famous scandals like this as well. I’m not sure what epitaph will be chiseled into Winona Ryder‘s tombstone when she passes into eternity but I would not be surprised at all if somewhere on her headstone her Free Winona days were memorialized with a message like Winona Free, At Last.

A 'Skins' Man
Nicholas Hoult, who starred in the first two seasons of the hit UK drama Skins and appears in the new Tom Ford directed film A Single Man, is featured in the pages of the new issue of VMan magazine … behold:
I’ve been a big Hoult fan since his days as Tony Stonem on Skins and while I’ve yet to see A Single Man, I’m dying to see him in action on the big screen. I understand that Hoult will also be starring in the movie remake of Clash of the Titans which stars Sam Worthington as Perseus. After the jump, check out a few more photos of Nicholas Hoult in the pages of the new issue of VMan magazine … More »
A diva to really go gaga over
Actress/model/artist Grace Jones stepped out for dinner at La Cecconis in Beverly Hills, CA last night and she was lookin’ the epitome of fierce perfection. A lot of young’ns these days think that some new pop stars on the scene are “creative” and “inventive” because of the way they dress but I think Ms. Jones here reminds us that some divas have been truly creative and inventive for decades, long before the pretenders to the throne of avant garde made it on the scene:
You may recall that last week we learned that Twilight star Kellan Lutz is up for the role of Conan the Barbarian (a remake of the original film of the same name which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger) and I was reminded that Grace Jones played an integral role in the sequel film Conan the Destroyer. I wonder who might be cast to play her character Zula should a remake of that film be made. Producers these days would be hard pressed to find a woman as literally fierce as Grace Jones still is. This is a diva, y’all. It would behoove you to recognize and bow down.

"I have been attracted to some women."
Kylie Minogue, Aussie pop queen supreme, has set the Internets a-blaze with new comments and confessions she has made to Mexican Max magazine. In a recent interview with the mag, Kylie has admitted a same-sex attraction to other women tho she clarifies that she has “never done anything” with another woman. MMM HMMM. Here are a couple pics of a smiley Kylie making her way out of her London apartment today and the deets about her revelatory comments:
The ‘Wow’ singer admits she is a “natural flirt” and can’t help but admire beautiful women, but is adamant she has never been involved in a same-sex relationship. Kylie, 41, told Max Mexico magazine: “I have been attracted to some women. I am a sexual exhibitionist and part of me is a natural flirt. “But although I am attracted to women, I have never done anything with them.” Kylie – who is currently dating Spanish male model Andres Velencoso, 31 – was spotted at the 7th Heaven pole dancing club in the French ski resort of Chamonix three weeks ago. Dancers Faye O’Neil and Katrina Redfern said the singer was “transfixed” as she watched them perform a sexy routine. Kylie has also previously joked about becoming a lesbian because of her huge gay fan base, and admitted to being attracted to late US actress Tallulah Bankhead. She said: “I’d go gay for her. She was a fascinating and exotic woman. There was so much to admire about her. She lived life to the full, maybe a little too fully. I want to release the inner Tallulah in me.” In 2000, Kylie sent men’s pulses racing when she kissed ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell on a British TV chat show.
OMG, I love her. I think there are a lot of folks out there who have some sort of same-sex attraction (I am a firm believer in the Kinsey Scale) and I think it’s quite brave for Kylie to open up about her feelings. It is very natural to feel an attraction towards someone and not feel the need to act on those feelings. While a part of me is certain that Kylie‘s comments come from a place of jest and whimsy, I’m also certain that she is offering a bit of truth about herself as well. I wish other celebs were as open and honest as Kylie Minogue is :)

The TV Guide
Last night David and I took our dear Kirsten out for dinner at La Bohème in West Hollywood, CA for a last supper of sorts for just the three of us. David missed out on hanging with us the last time Kirsten and I hung out so we decided to take her out especially, just the 3 of us:
As usual, we had a fantastic time … so fantastic, that I was in the mood to wear my fabulous Aretha Franklin hat. Fun, right?
As the rain continues to fall here in SoCal, we Los Angelinos continue to do as much hibernating as possible. That’s pretty much my plan for today :)
'Pirates 4' is a go, 'Spider-Man 4' gets a director, Grant finds R. Pattz "sexy"
Is it or isn't it him?
Rumors have been flying all over the place as to Where in the World is Tiger Woods these days in the wake of the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal which drove him into hiding. While we’ve had a few sightings of embattled wife Elin Nordegren in the past few weeks, the only place Tiger Woods has shown up is on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. There was a rumor back in December that Woods checked himself into a rehab clinic in Arizona but no real proof emerged from that report. Recently, The National Enquirer and others have claimed that Tiger Woods is actually in a sex rehab clinic in Mississippi … and this time, the Enquirer is claiming to have photographic proof:
Tiger Woods is receiving treatment for sexual addiction at a sex rehabilitation clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi according to two television stations and an author on the topic. Television stations WJTV and WLBT reported, citing unnamed sources, that Woods was at the Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services center, where security is tight and dark tarps have been placed upon wire fences. Benoit Denizet-Lewis, who wrote a book on sex addiction, wrote in a blog entry that Woods was receiving treatment at the sex-rehab facility, where he spent time while working on the book regarding sexually compulsive behavoir. Clinic officials have refused to confirm Woods is there to the television stations. ESPN also reported officials would not confirm Woods is a patient. Woods has admitted infidelity to wife Elin and more than a dozen women have claimed to have had affairs with the world’s top golfer, a scandal touched off when Woods drove his vehicle into a hydrant and a tree nearly two months ago.
HMMMM. I’m not sure that this photo provided by The National Enquirer is actually of Tiger Woods at all … but that doesn’t necessarily invalidate the claims that he is, indeed, checked into a sex rehab center in Mississippi. I mean … it could be him in the photo … just like it could be a staged photo to make it look like it’s him. What do y’all think … first, do you think Tiger Woods is really gettin’ help for his supposed sex addiction in Mississippi? And second, do you think this is a photo of Woods at said Mississippi rehab clinic?

"Tweet Me" "Sweet Pea"
Ever since I can remember, Sweetheart candies have been a part of my Valentine’s Day celebrations. In Elementary School, we used to fashion cardboard mailboxes to attach to our desks so that on Valentine’s Day, our friends could deposit Valentine’s Cards and gifts into those boxes … gifts that always included small boxes of those chalky Sweetheart candies with messages like “Love U”, “True Love”, “My Cutie”, “Too Hot”, “Kiss Me” and more (and I distinctly remember giving a few “Kiss Me”s to some lucky girls in my classes over the years … ’tis a shame those young ladies didn’t snap me up while I was still available). Over the years, the folks who imprint these sweet messages onto these candies have added more modern messages to the mix (like “Fax Me”) and this year they have added a few new modern messages as well:
Sweethearts, those tiny heart-shaped candies with expressions of love printed in pastel, are boasting new phrases for a new decade that respresent the ever-changing times we live in. The treats have been a Valentine’s Day tradition since the days of Lincoln, but for the first time in the candy’s 145-year history, this year Sweethearts will feature contemporary sayings chosen by an online poll. Manfacturers dumped all the previous expressions and asked candy fans to write new ones. Voters came up with “You Rock,” “Soul Mate,” “Love Bug,” “Tweet Me,” “Text Me.”and “Me & You” The company even has a Twitter account! The new Sweethearts will also offer some new flavors – including green apple, blue raspberry, strawberry, lemon, grape and orange.
While I love the idea that new, modern phrases have been added to the mix I’m bummed that all “previous expressions” have been dumped in the process. Some of those phrases may sound corny now but they’re iconic. In the end, tho, it’s really about how the Sweethearts taste and I am very much looking forward to enjoying me some Sweethearts this VD season. Are any of y’all Sweethearts fans? Which phrases are your faves?

Also, more deets about Jennie Garth's exit from the show
On Sunday we learned the surprising (yet not so shocking) news that Jennie Garth, who plays the role of Kelly Taylor, is “leaving” 90210 (which is a redux of her original series Beverly Hills, 90210) and today we learn that another elder actor on the show is leaving as well. Rob Estes, who plays West Beverly High principal and father of the sibling protagonist characters on the show, is also leaving the show either due to a contract dispute with the network or because he feels the need to move on to another project. Whatever the case may be, Estes‘s character Harry Wilson will NOT be returning to the show next season:
Veteran actor and past soap star, Rob Estes, who plays Harry Wilson the school principal, has abruptly and unexpectedly quit the show amongst rumors of contract negotiations falling short of the mark. “The bottom line is that Rob won’t be on the show next season,” a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com. “ The producers, the studio and Rob came to the conclusion together that his role had ran its course. There just wasn’t enough for Rob to do because the show is more about the kids.” But going on to hint at the real reason for Rob quitting the show, the source continues, “Rob’s an expensive actor and wants to be challenged and it became increasingly clear that most of the penny lifting was going to the younger cast members of the show, who Rob adores. He’s absolutely leaving the show on good terms.” But another source tells a slightly different story about Estes’ departure. “Rob’s not happy about it all,” the source tells RadarOnline.com exclusively. “Basically they couldn’t agree on money and that’s all it comes down to. Rob’s an experienced actor and feels he deserves to be compensated accordingly, but the CW just want to cut costs and they want to reward all these young, hot, up and coming, and therefore cheaper, actors and actresses instead. Rob was loving working on the show and was really looking forward to continuing to do so. Plus, to be frank, he needs the money, this is going to hit him hard.”
HMMM. I personally think the latter explanation is the true one, Estes is most likely not happy to be leaving the show. His character, altho an adult on the show, is a pretty key character. Not only is he one of the parents of the main sibling protagonists on the show but he is also the main adult character at West Beverly High, where all the action takes place. I wonder what Estes‘s leaving the show will mean for Lori Loughlin‘s character (she plays his wife on the show). Are all the adults gonna get axed from the show next season?
In regards to Jennie Garth‘s departure, RadarOnline spoke with her manager about her exit from 90210. After the jump, find out what he has to say about her leaving the show … More »

Celebs scramble to attend
James Franco, who recently hosted Saturday Night Live and appeared in a story-arc on the long-running daytime drama General Hospital, was on hand at a private screening in NYC for his new film Howl. In Howl, Franco plays the famed beat poet Allen Ginsberg and, from what I’m hearing, gives an Oscar-worthy performance. Buzz about Franco‘s performance in Howl is even spreading amongst the Hollywood crowd because celebs themselves (Michael Stipe, Zachary Quinto, Brooke Shields, Dustin Lance Black, Björk and more) were clamoring to get into this special screening:
James Franco has been many things lately: NYU student, artist, soap opera star. So it’s not entirely surprising that the hunky actor managed to transform himself, with a pair of black-frame glasses and an adopted haute-Jersey accent, into outspoken twentieth-century poet Allen Ginsberg. Franco’s latest film, Howl, draws on actual interviews and smoky back-room readings and partly reenacts Ginsberg’s 1957 obscenity court case to paint a portrait of the Beat-era bard. Last night at the Crosby Street Hotel, a Cinema Society audience got an early look at the new movie and at Franco, who stood in the packed theater throughout the whole thing. Clearly, he’s got a thing for poets on screen: Among his recent projects is a short film based on the work of Anthony Hecht, and, in a few days, one inspired by Frank Bidart’s uncompromising poetry will (like Howl) play at Utah’s Sundance Film Festival. “I think poems work very well as films,” Franco insisted, adding that he’d had Ginsberg’s voice (and Howl, Ginsberg’s best-known work) in his head since he was about 16. “I’ve listened to dozens and dozens of recordings of him, over the years, reading that poem,” he said. “I’d listen to them in my headphones walking around New York.” Franco wasn’t the only one feeling the Beat. Björk and Matthew Barney lingered well into the after-party, and Alicia Silverstone revealed that free verse also plays a regular role in her life: “My husband has me read Charles Bukowski poems to him,” she said. “It amuses him.”
As you may recall, we saw photos of Franco on the NYC set of Howl last March and as far as looks go, Franco wears Ginsberg‘s chunky glasses very well … he looks very much the part. I think we learned in Milk that Franco has the acting chops to deliver an Oscar-worthy performance … I am SO excited for this film. While I am a huge Jack Kerouac fan, I have a huge appreciation for Ginsberg and his work. I’m certain this film will do well at the film festivals which means, hopefully, it’ll be in theaters where we normal people can see it soon.

"I will miss you mother, my sweet and valiant explorer, lebwohl and adio."
Yesterday we learned the very sad news that Canadian folk legend Kate McGarrigle lost her battle with cancer at the age of 63 on Monday night and today we are hearing from her her son, Rufus Wainwright, on his mother’s passing. Rufus posted a short blogpost on his official website to add to the eulogies that have been written about his late mother in an attempt to enlighten the last 3 1/2 years of her life. Here is Rufus‘s message about Kate in full:
When inevitably I read today in the papers that my mother lost her battle with cancer last night, I am filled with an immense desire to add that this battle, though lost, was tremendously fruitful during these last three and a half years of her life. She witnessed her daughter’s marriage, the creation of my first opera, the birth of her first grandchild Arcangelo, and gave the greatest performance of her life to a packed crowd at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Not to mention traveling to some of the world’s most incredible places with both my sister, her husband Brad, my boyfriend Jorn and myself. Yes, it was all too brief, but as I was saying to her sister Anna last night while sitting by her body after the struggle had ceased, there is never enough time and she, my amazing mother with whom everyone fell in love, went out there and bloody did it. I will miss you mother, my sweet and valiant explorer, lebwohl and adio. X
In 2008, Kate established the Kate McGarrigle Fund in association with McGill University Health Centre, the Jewish General Hospital through the MUHC Foundation, the Cedars Cancer Institute, and Cancer Research UK in order to raise money and awareness for the fight against this rare type of cancer. I cannot imagine the pain of eulogizing one’s own mother (for which I continue to be grateful) but I can appreciate that Rufus felt it was important to explain how rich his mother’s life was before she succumbed to her illness. I have no doubt that Kate McGarrigle knew how much she was loved by her children and relished in their happiness and success. While we cannot know what her last moments on Earth were like, we can hope that she is now at peace and at rest.
