First Look: Glee: The Music, ‘The Christmas Album’

by

Not content to let Mariah Carey have all of the holiday music fun this year, the producers of Glee have announced the upcoming release of a holiday album titled Glee: The Music – The Christmas Album. As you can imagine, this new collection of holiday music comes complete with many of your traditional faves plus a few unconventional songs all in that Glee style that every is crazy about. Here is our first look at the album artwork for Glee’s first Xmas album along with text from the press release announcement for the album, which includes info about tonight’s Rocky Horror Picture Show episode:

Glee decks the halls and gets you in the holiday spirit early with the release of Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album, available Tuesday November 16, 2010. The Glee cast sprinkle a little Christmas cheer with their dazzling renditions of such holiday classics as “We Need A Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” “Jingle Bells” and a very special Dr. Seuss inspired “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” featuring Grammy Award winner k.d. lang (see full track listing below). This special Glee Christmas episode airs Tuesday, December 7, at 8:00 pm et/pt on FOX. The music from Glee continues to set sales records; recently Glee surpassed The Beatles 52 year record for the most Billboard Hot 100 chart appearances of a non-solo act in one year. Glee: The Music, The Rocky Horror Show was released last week and immediately soared to #1 on iTunes Top Albums chart. Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers recently received an American Music Award nomination for Best Soundtrack Album, the 38th annual ceremony will take place on November 21 at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. On tonight’s Rocky Horror Glee Show episode (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), Will (Matthew Morrison) decides to have the glee club perform “The Rocky Horror Show” for the annual school musical after learning of Emma’s (Jayma Mays) newfound love for the cult classic. Despite Sue’s (Jane Lynch) usual scheming, the members of New Directions inject their distinctive style to such timeless tracks as “The Time Warp” and “Damn It, Janet.”

I mean … you knew that Glee would tackle Xmas music sooner or later, it was bound to happen. The show is still incredibly popular and it’s important for them to tackle all the music they can while the demand is still rabidly high. I’m not a huge fan of Xmas music (except for the soundtrack of A Charlie Brown Christmas Special) so I’m not sure if I’ll need to own this album myself but I know that many folks love Xmas music and, well, this might be right up their alley. After the jump, check out a new promo image and the full tracklist of this Glee Xmas album due out on November 16 …

    Too. Much. Glee.
    This show is killing itself.

  • I’m sick of hearing about this show!

  • Panti Christ

    me three^

  • cmc

This specifically turns me off as I don’t happen to be Christian. Didn’t they just do an episode exploring different religions and how it’s okay to be a believer or nonbeliever as long as you’re respectful? (Yeah, it was a leap to get to that conclusion from what was presented, but I’d like to think that’s what they meant to do). I’m annoyed they’re following that up with a religion-specific album.

  • erin

I have been such a fan of this show from the first preview episode and LOVE the exposure this is giving to musical programs in schools…. however, i too am SO sick of this. They don’t need to put out a cd of EVERY song they sing on the show. It’s taking away from the show itself, in my opinion.

  • Sandy

@cmc If you want something consistent, Glee is not the show for you.

  • Mariah

Oh my God, Trent. I’m right there with you on The Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. I play that album non-stop during the entire holiday season. It’s so festive and perfect. It puts me in the ultimate holiday mood.

  • Roze

@cmc I’m not Christian but I enjoy celebrating Christmas. I’m not Chinese but I celebrate it with my Chinese friends. Anyway, Christmas is really more about the “holidays” than religion now.

  • Sarah

Love Christmas songs. Love Glee. A combination of the two sounds AMAZING. Can’t wait for this to come out!

  • Kayla

Hey Trent, not sure if you’ve seen but there’s also a list of who’s singing what floating around. I’m sure you can easily find it online but if you can’t and want it let me know and I’ll find whatever site I read it on again.

  • Paul From Toronto

Will there be a Christmas episode to go with the music? I hope So. I wanna see Chris sing my favourite christmas song with the new guy. Cant Wait..

Honestly, for those who think this wrong to have a Christmas album due to religion need to relax a little. I have friends that are jewish and Hindu and they still love Christmas bc its about the holiday itself.. the decorations.. the music.. the gathering of friends and family.. not just religion

  • Paul From Toronto

Actually.. maybe i was a little harsh with the relax comment.. sorry guys.. I just feel that Christmas is becoming more and more less of a holiday bc of the whole religion stigma.. that is all..

  • Amanda

@ CMC not to be disrespectful but not all “christmas music” is religous. So saying that this is a religion specific album is a little far fetched Lets just take some examples from the album. Jingle bells – not religous. Your a mean one Mr. Grinch again not religous. I dont think just because they made a christmas album that they are stating a specific religion. I think they just recognize it as a way to make more profit and get in while the getting is good.

  • Jordan

Why isn’t Dianna Agron singing any?

  • cmc

@Amanda what about “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, “Angels We Have Heard On High”, “Holy Night”? I love the holidays. Love most of the songs on the list, too. The inclusion of these songs annoys me though. As Sandy said earlier though- consistency is not Glee’s strong point.

  • Ally

    so THAT’S who’s playing Kurt’s boyfriend… yay :) he’s a cutie

  • kittkatt

They’ve made a point several times on the show that both Rachel and Puck(swoon) are Jewish, yet no hanukkah songs? What’s up with that?

  • What about Puck and Rachel being Jewish? WTF

  • CJ

This is definite proof that Darren Criss has been cast to play Kurt’s boyfriend! Loved Darren is A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel!

  • This needs to stop. I love “Glee” but….can they focus their attention on the storylines instead of making $$ off of the music?

  • Josh

Not only are Rachel and Puck Jewish but Lea and Dianna are Jewish in real life
