Rihanna Surfaces On The Set Of ‘Battleship’

Popstar Rihanna, who we learned yesterday now has her own wax statue tribute on display at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Washington DC, has made her way to Hawaii this week. No, she’s not there to hang out with living legend Britney Spears and her beau Jason Trawick who are also on the islandsRi Ri is actually in HI to film her first scenes for the new film Battleship (which is based on the classic board game Battleship by Milton Bradley). Here is our first look at Rihanna on set:

You may recall that we learned in July that Rihanna would be making her feature film debut in Battleship and now we know that she’s already begun work on the film. To be honest, I’m having a hard time trying to wrap my head around the notion of a major motion picture based on a classic board game … but, then again, I never thought that Pirates of the Caribbean, a movie based solely on a ride at Disneyland, would be successful. I’m certain the classic catchphrase, You sunk my Battleship!, will be uttered in the film … let’s just hope it won’t be uttered at Rihanna for ruining the movie ;)

What do y’all think … does a movie based on a board game sound like a winner to you? Do you think this is a good first movie for Rihanna to make her acting debut?

  • Mr. Gyllenhaal

I think it makes perfect sense that she would debut her acting skills in a movie that is probably going to be super cheesy!! Why does ever singer think they have to act too?? I just think RiRi won’t have what it takes. Hopefully, her battleship doesn’t get destroyed!

IF rihanna has any acting skills…i think she picked the wrong movie to show them in. but personally i dont think she does…so this could end up being perfect for her.

AGREED Mr. Gyllenhaal! Being a good singer does not automatically qualify you for movie stardom. There are so many actors out there, getting training and paying their dues. Blech, if anything having a musician in a movie is a sign that the movie is going to be mediocre at best.

  • In 1985 “Clue” was made into a motion picture with Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd…. and it is Hilarious!!! One of my all time favorite movies.

    • @Dena — Yes, you make a very good point. Clue is a fantastic movie.

  • Ama

If a movie can be made based off of an website and look okay, I’m sure one based off of a game will be good too :) But it all depends on the script and the actors. Rihanna may or may not have any acting abilites. But I doubt she will be losing anything by trying it out. However I doubt I will be taking this movie seriously. Because, I’m sure it will have a good handful of cheesy lines.

    • @Ama — The Social Network is a movie about the behind the scenes drama and in-fighting that went on between the creators of Facebook, it’s not about the site itself. This is way different than a movie based on a board game.

  • Ama

@trent,very true :) that was the only one I could think of to compare it to. Now that I think about it I guess I should have said an anime/cartoon live action instead

  • Val 2.0

    Next up: Jenga!: The Movie.

  • nicole

@Val – that sounds intense! haha

Isn’t Alexander Skarsgard in this movie too? I thought I saw a recent MTV interview with him mentioning it.
