Illustrious actress Amanda Bynes — who has starred in such films as What A Girl Wants, She’s the Man, Hairspray and Sydney White and TV shows like The Amanda Show, All That and What I Like About You — has, at the tender age of 24, announced her retirement on her official Twitter account. The official announcement is very light on deets … it suggests that she is retiring from acting altogether but it remains to be seen if she is also retiring from the public eye. Here are the retirement tweets posted by Amanda early this morning:

I’ve never written the movies & tv shows I’ve been apart of I’ve only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play / Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem / If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it / I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it / I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I’ve #retired
And there you have it, folks … the end of an era. I have to say, I like Amanda Bynes a lot. I think she is a cute actress and I generally enjoy the movies she does … you know, when they come on cable and I’ve got nothing better to do. To be honest, I’m not really her target audience so … that’s pretty good, I think. Anyways … this retirement announcement may seem like it came out of the blue … but if you follow Amanda on Twitter, you know that she is totally random. This is the tweet she posted just before she announced her retirement:
I like black men I’m very attracted to them just fyi
And here is a sampling of some of the other random tweets that she posts on her official Twitter account:
I only smile if I’m happy if you catch me smiling I’m happy / Happy June 15th :) / i have love for everybody I follow or don’t follow if you’re good news :) / keep your love you never know if you’ll find another one / coincidences exist for sure, sometimes I think God makes coincidences to show us fate exists since some things can’t be explained / I’m changing my name back to @AmandaBynes pretty soon on twitter fyi / I’m your original girl so I like being called an OG it’s sweet
And on and on. Amanda has not tweeted a single thing since she announced her retirement … so it’s possible she has also retired from Twitter. Whatever the case may be, it might be nice to pour one out for Amanda‘s acting a career should she actually follow thru with her declaration. I know I’m bummed there will never be a She’s the Man 2 but sometimes life is cruel.
Soooo … what do y’all think of Amanda’s retirement announcement?

I say that she won’t be missed much anyway? Sorry, but her movies and tv shows were corny. She seems like a sweet girl though. Good luck to her.
I really liked the show she did with Kelly from 90210. She always seemed to be a pretty nice girl off screen though and she did have some cute clothes released at the now defunct Steve and Barry stores. Good luck, Amanda.
‘I know I’m bummed there will never be a She’s The Man 2′ LOL you crack me up.
Reruns of What I Like About You are my guilty pleasure.. so we always have that :)
“I know I’m bummed there will never be a She’s the Man 2 but sometimes life is cruel.”
Trent, you make me smile.
*cough* cant get any gigs *cough*
OMG! I love her! I used to watch the Amanda Show ALL THE TIME! Hello, Moody’s point? Hilarious! Anyways, I think part of it is because she kind of grew up and didn’t transition well from child star to adult actor, etc. Plus, she kind of sold out when she started to dress like a hooch and what not. I dunno. I hope she makes more movies because they were innocent and cute. : (
Well at least she cut her losses and got out, instead of being one of those festering has-beens with terrible reality shows and then end up in celebrity rehab.
BTW I too loved the Amanda Show, blockblister was a hoot!
I loved Amanda in What a Girl Wants! I like her manner and I’m sorry to hear that she is retiring. Acting is a hard job. She is better off to get out now. Good luck Amanda, I hope you have a very promising future.
Too bad, I’m looking forward to seeing her in the upcoming Easy A movie..
All the best to her for however long this lasts ;)
I’m sorely disappointed. I really enjoy her movies and What I Like About You. I hope she doesn’t disappear completely; but I’m very happy that she’s following her heart.
Im so gutted…her movies were corny but always enjoyable…I hope she is just meaning that she is not acting and maybe going to be directing/ writing. She always seemed like a smart girl so maybe she is focusing on something else. I wish her all the best.
sad face :( i always loved how crazy and silly she was in her parts. but hey a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
so weird. did she get hacked???
you know…i loved her movies, they were just..sit & relax and in enjoy a cute chick flick. i hope shes just kidding.
and i love her tweets..there so random but they get a good laugh from me.
My twitter name is… @mandaplz. Thanks for the idea, Bynes. I can’t say I’ve really watched anything with her in it lately… but I am curious to see what she’ll end up doing. She seems ilke a fun and funny gal, so good luck to her.
I love Sidney White and I’m proud to say that!
hikhik
I think this is soooo strange…. doesn’t sound like her (although I don’t really know her). Do you think her Twitter account got hacked?
@LISA L — No, I don’t think she got hacked. I’ve been following her on Twitter for a while … it sounds totally random and exactly like her. She’s already been tweeting today about her dad.
I saw when she tweet this and I wished her all the best. I think it’s great that she’s being honest to herself and isn’t heavily influenced by others. She is a smart girl and doesn’t want to get caught up in the hollywood scene. Her tweets are awesome and I like reading them! You can follow me @KVLZ
I wish it was Lindsey Lohan announcing her retirement.
