At the start of this month we learned that Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe (who starred in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire) would be hosting Saturday Night Live and earlier this week we got to see the promo vids of Gabby hyping up her gig. Well, the ep aired last night and — thankfully — just as I suspected, Gabourey KILLED it as host of SNL:

While the young actress was a bit nervous (flubbing a few lines here and there) she was professional enough to just keep going and bring the funny. I loved every single skit that she appeared in. Like the episode with Tina Fey as host, Gabby‘s SNL last night was one of the best the show has all season long. Her opening monologue was genius and the Digital Short she did with Andy Samburg was simple, yet hilarious! Last night’s ep was cemented as one of my faves when I saw the Alarm Clock skit (I know, it’s dumb … but I loved the previous Door Bell and Car Horn skits as well). After the jump, check out video of all of the very funny SNL skits that featured guest host Gabourey Sidibe — and prepare to LAUGH …
Opening Monologue:
Unfortch there isn’t an official clip of Gabby‘s opening monologue (which is really dumb considering it was one of the funniest bits of the night) but you can watch it HERE in the online stream of the entire episode on NBC.com.
The Suze Orman Show:
Crazy Lady yelling from Window:
Digital Short: Cherry Battle:
Who Wants to be a Millionaire:
The Story of Frank Sinatra:
Public Employees of the Year:
New Alarm Clocks:
Hamilton wants Gabourey back:
I loved this entire ep. I think the Frank Sinatra skit was the weakest of the bunch but Gabby was cute in it so she gets credit for making it, at the very least, watchable. I am so happy that SNL decided to feature Gabourey Sidibe in this way … I think she showed a lot of people just how truly talented she is as an actress. I love her so much!! What did y’all think of her performance? Funny, right?

I agree Gabourey was awesome but found most of the skits to be generally NOT funny at all…
All of your videos seem to have “expired”, so we can’t see them. :-(
@Shelby — The NBC embeds aren’t working at all, I can’t control that. I hope they get them working so people can watch them :(
I thought Gabourey was very likeable and a good sport, but the skits were pretty bad. I guess the Suze Orman and Alarm Clock skits were my favorites (I’m basically a sucker for them no matter what) but the rest were meh.
I agree with Kram. It started out really good and I love the opening monologue but it went down hill from there. It could of been a lot funnier and better use of Gabby’s natural talent and humorous personality
I didn’t laugh once. I found it to be boring. I really like her so I wanted to make sure to catch this episode, but it was disappointing.
We had fun watching it, I thought she did really quite well — who cares if she fucked up some lines. She was great as the genius yelling from the window and the digital short was sooo funny.
I think Gab needs to lay off the Chick-Fil-A, I’m worried about her morbid obesity – she’s young and should get that under control before serious and irreversible health conditions develop (let’s hope none have yet).
…
I normally like MGMT but I didn’t dig their performances last night, especially the 2nd number – blech.
…
Wknd Update, on the whole, was one of the best of the season especially because of the “guests” – I loved Stefon and the travel writer, but I really thought the Girl Guide cookies editorial was BRILLIANT :-)))
I like Gabby, but this was a really unfunny episode. Writing this year sucks…
Trent I could not disagree more. This was the worst episode I have ever seen except for the Steve Harvey Millionare skit. Gabby was just awful. She messed up every single skit.
Worst SNL I’ve ever sat through.
was a little disappointed i know she is young and is a new actress so with the material she was given i thought she did a good job but the material itself wasn’t that good except weekend update (seth myers must give himself all the good material….) but still good job gabourey!
I liked her in the parts where she was Gabourey – in the hosting parts, but didn’t really like any of her skits. From these performances, and if I hadn’t have seen Precious, I wouldn’t take her seriously as an actor at all.
I loved the Suze Orman sketch though, that was spot on. That lady nailed Suze’s traits. Definitely not one of the better SNL’s/
seeing as the writing thier getting to work with sucks this season i think Gabby did great. her & andy make a great team. but if you ask me…most of the good skits & digital skits involve andy.
I might get some flack here, but I thought it was horrible. One of the worst episodes of SNL my eyes and ears have endured. I mean, Gabourey is nice and all, but there’s a lot of people who do SNL for their first time and don’t eff it up. I get that she was nervous and she has every right to be and that she’s a new actress as well. However, during the opening monologue, she was OUT OF BREATH with just a few lines. Am I the only one who noticed this??? It was like she was gasping/choking on air and not getting enough. I’m sorry, I love the fact that she’s big and doesn’t care what people think about her, but she is NOT healthy by any means. The opening monologue was funny, but the rest was really, really bad…I found her to be almost annoying in some of them. Also, MGMT sucked.
Unfortunately, very bad. Not particularly funny concepts poorly executed by Gabby. She was stilted and kept messing up her lines. I guess she’s just a little too inexperienced for this. Too bad. She’s a charming person.
I agree with most of the other comments. I really, really wanted to like SNL this week, but as much as I tried, it just wasn’t good! The opening monologue was okay but other than that, it was just meh. Even Weekend Update, which is usually the best part wasn’t good except for the writer talking about Girl Scout cookies. I’m probably one of the few SNL fans out there that can’t stand Kristen Wiig anymore. All her characters are pretty much the same and they aren’t really funny anymore.
I agree that it wasn’t so good. She a good actress for film and dramas, but she’s not very good at live comedy. There’s just a difference in how you deliver lines, and she didn’t deliver them in a comedic tone.
There is no one cuter than gabby.
I thought she and the entire show was absolutely terrible. I did not laugh AT ALL, and I thought Gabourey was especially awful. She just doesn’t have it, and I don’t think she’ll have a very long career. There’s only so many roles for ladies of her size. Sorry, but it’s true. And also Trent, I really didn’t think Tina Fey was that great either. I LOVE her but that whole episode was weak too. WEAK. BOTH WEEKS WERE WEAK. Haha…did you see what I did there?
Cute girl, awful comedic actor. Also crappy writing.
NBC embeds never work for me, I hate it :(
after watching the promos you’d posted, I was looking forward to the episode, but I have to agree with most – it just wasn’t good. I think she COULD have been great, but I just didn’t find the writing to be funny at ALL. Seems that the promo videos were the funniest part of the episode.
So bad. And I love her. Not her fault. Just the writing is shockingly bad. Wow. Haven’t watched in a while, and I just can’t believe how bad, bad, bad the writing is.
Loved the episode, Gabby was effervescent, talented and fun! She brought it, gave it her all and I laughed a lot. Overall it was a great ep – not too into MGMT but they were entertaining. Especially weekend update, hysterical. BTW Gabby is BEAUTIFUL!!
This ep was so not funny. Sorry, I tried to like it. Never laughed. Not once.
I thought she was pretty funny. “My daddy used to see Wikipedia’s” Hilarious. I just think she has a comedic nature about herself. I think her size is irrelevant and it’s always us women who come down on each other the hardest. Guys don’t do that, look at Chris Farley etc. and she is not even a FT comedian but she has a spark that I hope she never lets negative people or “Hollywood” diminish due to her not looking like everyone else.
The who wants 2 b a millionaire with her and Kenan was hilarious 2
