‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’ Releases An Official Movie Poster

1, 2, Freddy's comin' for you ... in April

Last July we got to see the first teaser poster for the new remake version of the classic 80′s horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street and in September of last year we got to see the first movie trailer for the film. Today, just about 2 months from the film’s release in theaters, we get our first look at the first official movie poster for Nightmare:

While Warner Bros. Pictures A Nightmare on Elm Street doesn’t arrive in theaters until April 30, the studio wants you to dream of the day by torturing us with all sorts of goodies from the forthcoming redo … this evening you’ll be dreaming of good ol’ Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) thanks to this brand spanking new one sheet! Watch MySpace Thursday for the final trailer.

“A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley), a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.”

Nice poster but I’m still reserving judgment. I’m very curious to see what the upcoming new movie trailer looks like … while I liked the one we saw last September, I really don’t think it holds up to the original film. I’m cautiously optimistic that the film will be fun but I highly doubt it will surpass the classic original. What do y’all think of this poster … are you skerred?

It seems like remakes would kick major ass, considering that we have better abilities with special effects these days….. but I haven’t seen a remake yet, that blew the original away. It doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to do… but it hasn’t been done yet (IMO)….. I’m not excited about this and I just don’t think it’s going to have the same effect that it did when I was a youngen’… It would be awesome if I was wrong about that though… It would be awesome, for a change, if a remake really did kick more ass than the original.

This is going to fail miserably. Good!

I’ll still go see it, but I don’t have high hopes. Wonder if they’re planning on doing this one in 3D? Seems like that would be a good fit.

The problem with remakes is that people don’t focus on the story. They only focus on the special effects, etc. The story backs up a movie in the first place. With horror, though, you don’t really need a good storyline, do you? Just blood, guts, and occasional tits, and that’s about it. I like a good horror film with a good story. I doubt this is going to be any good but I guess we shall see. The original was pretty good, I think, but i doubt this one will be any better. I hate the guys voice with a strong passion.

“Classic” and “’80s Horror Film” do not belong in the same sentence, unless you’re talking about “Re-Animator” or “Near Dark.” The ’70s were the true high point of horror — the real “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Exorcist,” “Wicker Man,” “Don’t Look Now.” It was in the ’80s that it all went to hell with slasher pictures.
