Was Marilyn Monroe A Marijuana Smoker?
A new video has come to light of Marilyn Monroe chillin’ with some of her homegirls back in the day that seems to show that she and her BFFs were fond of the Mary Jane. The woman who claims to have filmed the home movie, and wishes to remain nameless, says she found the footage in her attic all these years later and thought it’d be fun to share it with the world … sounds like a good friend to me:
Smoking hot. Marilyn Monroe’s latest movie may explain the blonde bombshell’s notoriously bubbly personality. In footage that has just come to light after being forgotten for half a century, the “Some Like it Hot” star is seen puffing on what the owner of the film says is a marijuana joint. “I had it up in my attic all this time,” says the woman who shot the film, basically a home movie. The friend of Marilyn, who doesn’t want to be named publicly, said she regularly hung out with the starlet in the 50s, and thought nothing to be hanging out with her. “Home movies, that’s all it was,” she told NBCNewYork.com. “It was never a big deal for me.” The source, younger than Marilyn at the time and now in her late 60s, says she even rolled the doobie for Monroe, but claims the smoking didn’t have that much of an effect on the starlet. “It was all real casual, it was just friends hanging out,” she said. “She was the same [after smoking] — a little giggly.” The woman worked as office administrator most of her life and didn’t realize the reel-to-reel film could be valuable, until she was put in contact with Manhattan gallery owner Keya Morgan, who has an extensive Marilyn Monroe collection, as well as historical presidential memorabilia. “I’ve seen people with a $2 million [Abraham] Lincoln letter on their wall and I tell them how much it is worth and they’re like, ‘Wow,’” said Morgan, describing it as the “Antiques Roadshow affect.” They released a 90-second clip of the footage to NBC New York today, but the entire clip is set to be auctioned off at a later date. Morgan is now working with the friend of Marilyn, as well as numerous witnesses and retired law-enforcement agents, on a documentary about the star’s untimely demise in 1962, called “Marilyn Monroe: Murder on Fifth Helena Drive.” The listed cause of death at the time was “probable suicide.” “I am certain she was murdered,” said the friend. “The thing I want to get out is what a neat person she really was. She was just a delight, down to earth. If you didn’t know she was an actress, you couldn’t tell.”
I mean, hello, didn’t we all know that Marilyn Monroe was a partygirl? I don’t think this video should come as any big surprise to pretty much anyone … but it is kinda interesting to see MM hangin’ out with her friends smokin’ down on a fat one. The clip isn’t too exciting and the soundlessness makes it seem a bit eerie … but still, it’s really something to see Marilyn Monroe in this light. She looks really pretty in this video, too. Just imagine how much more we would know about Marilyn Monroe if there had been blogs back in her day.

Man, that would have be SO cool to be a friend of hers. She is one of my biggest role models. I LOVE her! Just wish we knew the real story on what happened to her, and I feel one day soon we will. She was so beautiful inside & out. Such a shame we lost her at such a young age. RIP Marilyn, you’re never forgotten.

To be honest, women today are not even half as pretty as Marilyn. I know that may sound rude but it’s my opinion. I even looked at my mom’s high school year book when she graduated in ‘76 and my mom was absolutely gorgeous and pretty much all of the girls were drop dead gorgeous as well. For some odd reason women today (who were the same age) don’t even hold a candle to them. They had amazing thick hair and looked like supermodels without even trying. That’s why I think Miss America and all those other stupid pageants are a joke because the women aren’t even pretty like the women in the pageants say in the 70’s or 80’s were. Marilyn was truly beautiful.

She looks gorgeous! I love to watch old movies of famous stars that I was never around to expierence when they were alive. It makes them more “human” if you will. She is stunning in that grainy video so I could only imagine what she would look like now. She looks so cool, the weed just takes her up a little extra!

I could care less whether she smoked marijuana or not, but she looks absolutely stunning in that video. She was so beautiful and it’s a tragedy we lost her when she was so young. I also love how she wasn’t a size 1 or 2

it could be weed in that thing, it could be regular nicotine. we don’t know for sure, and i’m weary of people claiming things about famous people AFTER they’ve died, but whatever. if she did smoke weed, then she did, and if she didn’t, then she didn’t. no big deal. RIP Marilyn, love you!

I never saw the big deal about marijuana anyway, out of all the drugs in hollywood it’s hardly the most dangerous, that being said to me it looks like a handrolled cigarette which wouldn’t have been that uncommon in those days.

@ CHASE- That’s because back then, women had nice, healthy figures. Because they looked healthy, their beauty was a lot more visible. Now however, you need to be under a size eight and have almost every bone protruding from your body to be even called ‘pretty’. Sad stuff, it’s interesting to see how the view on what makes a woman beautiful has changed overtime.

Chase, don’t forget that in 1976 cameras weren’t as advanced, and they didn’t pick up on all of the little human “flaws” that technology of today can capture. Film makes people look much better than digital mediums.

@CHASE – I totally agree! My mom was a freaking knockout and so were her friends! The guys were so good looking back in the day, too..It’s like acne didn’t exist!

@ tOnnY- Actually, it depends on your bone structure to whether or not that size would be considered ‘fat’ or really big. But for most body structures that is a healthy and normal size. Unless you have a bone structure that gives you a tiny waist(or hip area), size eight is healthy.
Go to a doctor and have them tell you what your healthy weight/body measurements should be. Every ‘body’ is different, so what is healthy for one body, might not be for another.

I’m an english size 10/12 and on the height/weight scale I’m not overweight (at the top end of my recommendation).

@toya – i definately think britney looks just like marilyn, especially the smile. but honestly, marilyn was something of a trainwreck in her day and britney has accomplished way more than marilyn did, so it’s not insulting to marilyn’s memory in any way.

I don’t buy that whole “women were fuller” crap. People didn’t have modern conveniences of today and house work alone burned calories back then. Plus people may not have known as much about nutrition but they didn’t have the issues we have today with food. Basically, women were actually thinner naturally. Didn’t you know that women’s sizes have gotten bigger over the years? And back in the 20s and 30s women were TINY. My aunt told me that, back in the ’60s, her sister was very thin and beautiful (and she was) and that men all stared at her and wanted to get her attention so yeah slim women were always thought to be attractive. I mean look at twiggy.
I don’t understand why it matters though because we all know that Marilyn Monroe dyed her hair and had plastic surgery done to her face and breasts. How does this make her a role model or more beautiful than women today?
Personally I think that women are far more attractive today when they are natural and fit.
@Aislin: it all depends on body type and WHERE the weight is. if you’re 4 foot 11 and have no boobs you could be a size two and still have tons of cellulite and some fat.. if you have no muscle. it all depends. body fat percentage is the right way to measure health not size or weight on a scale.

According to her biographer, Marilyn fluctuated from size 8-12 through her entire career. Now she would be very much in the “plus size” range; back then it was considered perfection.

And loving her! And marveling at her! In FIVE years it will be, um, like, Britney WHO? Britney ain’t done sh!t, sorry to inform you, except make a damn fool of herself. When Britney makes an iconic film like “Some Like It Hot”, or “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” or “Bus Stop” or “The Seven-Year Itch”, THEN we can talk about what Britney has done. Marilyn and Britney do look like each other, it’s not a matter of respect, they have the same shaped face and eyes. There are pictures of Marilyn out there (sans makeup) that look like so much like Britney that I had to do a double take. She had her hair up above her head and was looking off into the distance which reminded me of the paparazzi pics of Brit doing the same thing. She just looked like a cleaner version of Britney. Britney done up to look like Marilyn is much much closer than Lindsay or anyone else really. You don’t have to like it, but it’s there.
