wow. i totally disagree with here on the gaga front. this whole “staying power” issue is such shit, she speaks about this “over sexualized” image and how many women might not last into their 60′s. um… has she heard of madonna? the woman (who also had a very sexualized start in the industry) is now in her 50′s and STILL rocking it. Not only that, but gaga is by far, much more talented and original than most of the artists in the industry right now. at least amos could acknowledge her in that aspect.

Trent, I agree with you, opinions are definitely unique to the individual. However, I remember a time when Tori Amos would never utter an ill word against another female artist, specifically not by commenting on the fact there is an age when women shouldn’t be “sexualized” anymore. By saying that, she falls right in line with the rest of pop culture by agreeing with the limited age standards of who can be beautiful, sexy and talented, and for how long. You’re a fan of Tori, and that’s fine. She’s a talented musician. But she’s fallen a far way from being a fighter for female musicians in the music world to criticizing them.

It bugs me when someone as intelligent as Tori Amos turns into a petty teenaged girl. Lady Gaga has been a talented musician/performance artist for a long time, and has shaken up the way we listen to/watch performances. This attack on “younger” female artists is getting old. Whatever happened to Tori being a strong, feminist role model who supported all female musicians in the music world?

I agree with everything Ben said (although I do think gaga’s attractive – she has a smoking hot body haha). Gaga is famour for a reason – her theatrics are entertaining and her voice is actually good. I think if gaga’s voice was bad no one would give her the time of day (myself included). Gaga has staying power.

On the GaGa front… well I love Tori, but I can’t say her last few albums have been as good as Lady Gaga’s 2 / 1.5. It’s cool she acknowledges Gaga’s actually a musician (which I think does make some sort of difference, with the piano, songwriting, actually good voice, etc). But I think her comments about Gaga’s duration are premature and a bit bitchy. I mean… sure, nobody wants to see Britney or Gaga “sexing it up” in 40 years. Who says they will be? Madonna’s still prancing around wearing not much at 50 (though I wish she wouldn’t). And Madonna started off showing flesh. Why is that so wrong? Ambition coupled with talent can take people a long way, and I truly don’t believe Lady Gaga has made her fame by being underdressed. I find her unattractive. I think most people do. She’s just good.
