Tori Amos Tells ‘Out’ Magazine That She Knows How To Sex Up Jennifer Aniston
Tori Amos sat down with Out magazine’s Popnography for a little tête à tête and in this new interview talks about things as varied as Lady GaGa’s staying power in the music biz (a subject she’s talked about before), why she doesn’t like revealing what other contemporary artists she listens to and what she would do sexually to Jennifer Aniston if she were a man. Yes, folks, this interview is Tori Amos at her finest. Here are a few screencaps from her interview and some excerpts from her chat:

On her masculine side:
“When I play I don’t feel as if I’m a sex — sometimes. Sometimes I feel as [if I'm] an entity and an energy and a musician. But the word musician isn’t male or female and there are times when I play that I feel as if I have a third leg. And there are times that I feel that I’m pregnant. If I were a male musician I do believe in a way there’d be less available women around because I would know how to turn some of them out — particularly Jennifer Aniston. Because I just look at her sometimes and say, “I know what to do with you.” But that’s my third leg self talking, that’s not the woman who wants to eat pussy — because I just don’t want to do that.”
On younger female artists:
“I think Lady Gaga is immensely entertaining and is a musician. Not all the divas are musicians, they’re dancers who can sing, so it’s important to say those ones that are players — that needs to be acknowledged. Some of the performers as they are now, in their incarnation now in their 20’s, people have asked me “Will some of these people be around?” When you talk about these women — Britney and Lady Gaga — what’s working for them now, which is very sexualized, you don’t want to see sexualized in [their] 60’s.”
On which contemporary artists she listens to:
“I do listen to contemporary music but years ago there was a particular artist who was asked [who they listen to] and everybody’s names were mentioned as artists who would do something with their lives and I wasn’t mentioned. And I had to reexamine myself for a couple days and realize that OK, they might not believe in me or even know I existed. And I decided if I were ever in a position that to single certain people out and not others — I might not be aware of them or not — I do think that the process of creativity can be very personal and so I keep that to myself.”
Ye gods, I love this woman. Out’s Popnography site is featuring this 2-part video interview with Tori Amos HERE. It is deffo worth your time. In addition to these charming quotes, Tori talks about so much more. Check it out, I think you’ll be pleased :)

Oooh Jen-sexing! Do it, Tori!
On the GaGa front… well I love Tori, but I can’t say her last few albums have been as good as Lady Gaga’s 2 / 1.5. It’s cool she acknowledges Gaga’s actually a musician (which I think does make some sort of difference, with the piano, songwriting, actually good voice, etc). But I think her comments about Gaga’s duration are premature and a bit bitchy. I mean… sure, nobody wants to see Britney or Gaga “sexing it up” in 40 years. Who says they will be? Madonna’s still prancing around wearing not much at 50 (though I wish she wouldn’t). And Madonna started off showing flesh. Why is that so wrong? Ambition coupled with talent can take people a long way, and I truly don’t believe Lady Gaga has made her fame by being underdressed. I find her unattractive. I think most people do. She’s just good.

Sorry but I think Tori is being a catty bitch…..Tori is just jealous. Personally i wouldn’t spend a time on her music.

I agree with everything Ben said (although I do think gaga’s attractive – she has a smoking hot body haha). Gaga is famour for a reason – her theatrics are entertaining and her voice is actually good. I think if gaga’s voice was bad no one would give her the time of day (myself included). Gaga has staying power.

It bugs me when someone as intelligent as Tori Amos turns into a petty teenaged girl. Lady Gaga has been a talented musician/performance artist for a long time, and has shaken up the way we listen to/watch performances. This attack on “younger” female artists is getting old. Whatever happened to Tori being a strong, feminist role model who supported all female musicians in the music world?

@C — One can be a “strong, feminist role model” and still have an opinion on other artists. How can you fault someone for having an opinion? I’m glad that Tori feels confident enough to voice her opinions, which I don’t always agree with. Team Tori! :)

Trent, I agree with you, opinions are definitely unique to the individual. However, I remember a time when Tori Amos would never utter an ill word against another female artist, specifically not by commenting on the fact there is an age when women shouldn’t be “sexualized” anymore. By saying that, she falls right in line with the rest of pop culture by agreeing with the limited age standards of who can be beautiful, sexy and talented, and for how long. You’re a fan of Tori, and that’s fine. She’s a talented musician. But she’s fallen a far way from being a fighter for female musicians in the music world to criticizing them.

@C — I absolutely see your point and understand your position. Perhaps her perspective has changed since becoming a mother? She’s far from the free spirit she was in her youth, which is fine in my book.

wow. i totally disagree with here on the gaga front. this whole “staying power” issue is such shit, she speaks about this “over sexualized” image and how many women might not last into their 60’s. um… has she heard of madonna? the woman (who also had a very sexualized start in the industry) is now in her 50’s and STILL rocking it. Not only that, but gaga is by far, much more talented and original than most of the artists in the industry right now. at least amos could acknowledge her in that aspect.
