On Sunday November 29, we learned that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon decided to call off their longtime relationship and break things off. Almost immediately after that report came out, representatives for the couple denied the claims of a break up and everyone assumed that the couple were still happily attached … well, except for me. Today we are hearing, again, that the couple have really truly broken up but this time, reps for GyllenSpoon are NOT offering denials … which essentially means that they are confirming the news. ‘Tis true, y’all, Jake and Reese are really dunzo!
From E! News‘s Marc Malkin: Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal know how to quit each other. The couple is no longer together. Sources confirm that the two decided to end their relationship about two weeks ago. People magazine actually reported the split back then, but reps for both stars insisted they were still very much in love. Reps are not commenting this time around. So what went down? “They needed time to figure it out and they were on different coasts,” a source says. “When they were finally together, they talked it out and decided they’re not going to be together anymore.” One source insists it’s completely amicable. “There are no other people involved,” the source said. “The relationship just ended. It just fizzled. But they also wanted to be careful and private about it because of Reese’s kids.” Our source also shot down recent reports claiming that Gyllenhaal was planning on popping the question. (FYI: Gyllenhaal seemed perfectly happy when we saw him just three days ago at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards in downtown L.A.)
Yep, I knew it … I knew it 2 weeks ago but, well, you know how these things play out. I shall refrain from mentioning this time around any desire to do cartwheels over this news (like I did last time) for fear of a lynching by rabid GyllenSpoon fans … this time around, I’ll just say that some relationships are just not meant to be and I wish them both a lifetime of happiness from here on out. Contrary to what some may believe, I do feel it is sad when a couple breaks up but if the split is amicable (as this report suggests) and the “love” just fizzles out … well … I guess it’s for the best that the couple stop pretending.

@lauren — Of course, I do not know anything about that for sure. I will say that I have heard a lot of things from people I trust that claim that particular rumor is true … again, I don’t personally know for sure.

I liked these two together..They seemed kind of boring but at least they were normal! I feel bad for her kids more than anyone..Ahh well..Another one bites the dust..I have nothing invested since I’m not all drooly over Jake, but stoked for the rest of you! :)
i always thought he was too young for her. i actually don’t even know how old they are, but it just felt that way. it always looked like he was more her little brother than anything… maybe that’s just me, though.

I don’t really get it when people say they don’t like a couple because they are “boring”. First, it isn’t like anyone has any clue as to how boring they are or not just based on tabloid gossip. Secondly, “exciting” usually means alcholism, drug addiction, abusive relationships, or cheating. No thank you, I wish the best for people (whether I am a fan or not). Healthy and boring is far better than exciting and destructive.
As for the gay rumors, I just can’t give them that much credibility. I know 2 men who have had the same allegations thrown at them, and I know they are 100% hetero and always have been. That type of rumor is one that can NEVER be proven wrong, short of coming out with an intrusive sex tape. At the end of the day, who cares if they are gay or straight anyway? They aren’t going to be boffing you no matter what!

I saw ‘Brother’s last night and was cursing that little bitch (Reese) all the way through it – out of pure envy of course. But now that these two are done, Jakey has clearly moved himself one step closer to moi :)
Why would you want Ryan and Reese get back together? Are we forgetting that Ryan cheated on Reese? Maybe Elin should get back with Tiger, too. And yes, the circumstances are different with Tiger and Elin but cheating is cheating no matter what. Eh.
