I don’t really know Morrissey, but that is a very cool way to bookend a decade. I wish I kept track of my concerts like you do. I go to a lot (not as many as you) and between my old LJ and now FB, I do have a sort of log, but not all together. I don’t keep stubs either. And I’ve been going to shows since before I can remember, so I don’t even know who my first concert was.

When i first heard that Ryan Gosling was playing this I was so excitied but then I heard Mark Wahlberg was replacing him. I knew then it was going down hill. Ryan Gosling would have been amazing

I loved the book, but knew it would not translate well to the screen. Bummer, but that’s true of a lot of books. But they make them into movies anyway LOL.

My favorite role ever for Mark Wahlberg was with Reese Witherspoon. I think it was called “Fear”. That’s his kind of role!

@Trent – I don’t know if you’re interested in seeing any more shows this year, but a band called Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are playing at the Mayan on Monday..They’re this super positive and fun band to see..It’s always a really good show, if you stay away from the dirty smelly hippies that are always there.. :)

I think I’ll will watch the movie anyways. Never read the book but the trailer made the movie seem interesting. On another note, I had no idea Morrissey was playing the Ventura Theater. I am so upset I let this show slip by b/c I’m only about 15 min away fron the venue. Darn :(

mark wahlberg is only a good actor when he’s playing an ass****. i really liked him in “the departed” but HATED his sappiness in “The Happening.” It’s totally believable for me that he ruined this movie, which kind of sucks because i really like the other actors.

I’m so bummed. The Lovely Bones is one of my favorite books ever. It seemed like it would be really hard to make it into a movie. I was pissed when I found out that Marky Mark was replacing Ryan Gosling. Oh well, I will still see it.

I agree with Roxster. The book is one that makes you use your imagination. there is no way that they could convey the feelings and visuals that we experience when reading it onto the screen. I still want to see it but know I will walk away pissed.

@roxster — Some of the cuts made sense but I couldn’t get over how different Ray’s character was treated in the movie vs. the book. I’m thinkin’ Ryan Gosling would’ve been a better Father for the movie.

I really liked the book…up until the ending. I thought that the supernatural occurance was for lust and not family was just not the best way to end the story.

Trent I read an article on USA Today where they said they cut some of the obvious violence and “minor” subplots (like the mothers affair) for the sake of the film. So that would lead to the under use of Rachel Weisz. The father is such an important role in this book, and shows such horribly strong and gut-wrenching emtions, so I’m disappointed to hear Mark Wahlberg failed to deliver a good performance. I’m not surprised this movie fell short though. The book has so many different, strong emotions I figured it’d be hard to capture.

Rachel Weisz’s important scenes were cut out of the film. My uncle saw a rough cut of the film early this year and Abigale’s Affair was in the film.

I don’t know why they would cut out an important subplot but it was there.

How disappointing… I loved this book and love Peter Jackson, but have heard that this is not his best film. I was hoping it be like his film, Heavenly Creatures (a great film) mixing a bit of imagination and effects with the plot and great acting. Mark Wahlburg was not the original choice so perhaps that added to it. Although, how exactly does a director top the Lord of the Rings trilogy?? Everything he makes will be compared to those already regarded as classic films.
