The ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ Are Dunzo!
It's no longer Morphin' Time!

The long-running live action TV series Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers aired its 700th episode this past weekend which turned out to be, sadly, their last episode. After premiering on US television back in 1993, the show managed to stay on the air for the next 16 years. I’m not sure if many of y’all even remember the show but it was a pretty big hit for youngsters in the days before Pokémon. Alas … the end has come for MMPR. It’s dunzo, y’all:

It’s been a long road for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. And last week Zordon finally decided that the Rangers were through, forever. The Power Rangers ended their series with the 700th episode. We’ll miss Billy and his overalls most. Last weekend after 700 episodes and 17 seasons, the long-running Power Ranger series came to an end. The karate-miming, putty-patroller-beating group reached massive highs with toy sales and ratings in childrens’ television, and also terrible lows with the tragic and dark crime that involved a past child star. They definitely left their mark on this planet, so with that I leave you with a high kick followed by a karate chop …

In all honesty, I had no idea that MMPR was still on the air but I deffo remember how much of a “thing” it was when it was on the air. There was even a bit of controversy that the martial arts featured in the show inspired kids to play violently. As we get older, the things of our childhood slowly die out … which is kinda sad. I mean, trust me, I will not be mourning the loss of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers very seriously but when I learned of the show’s end, well, I’ll admit I got a bit sad. After the jump, check out a short video from the premiere ep of the US version of the series that shows how the Power Rangers came to be …

Let’s pour one out for the Power Rangers, Zordon, Alpha 5, Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd and all the other fun characters from the series. It’s the end of an era, I tells ya.

Sad day. Even though I haven’t watched since “In Space”, I always liked that it was still on for my little cousins to watch and fall in love with like I did.

  3. shannon says:

I stopped watching when Walter Jones, Thuy Trang (R.I.P), and Austin St. John left the show.

Apples: not to mention that the white girl (Amy Jo Johnson) was represented by the colour pink.

I remembered it being more high tech than that! Very funny to watch the clip, thanks Trent.

  7. Posh says:

Aww! I remember watching those first few years and wanting to be the pink ranger for Halloween so badly. My brother probably still has his Tommy whistle sword all these years later.

  8. A says:

Aw man! That brings me back to my childhood. I ALWAYS wanted to be the yellow ranger. She was the coolest.
I had no idea it was still on the air, though. Happy New Year, PITNB!

I was so obsessed with this show. I had every action figure, etc. I have two of the movies on VHS as well. Oh memories. : ) <3

  15. Alicia says:

I’m not sure who originally posted that the power rangers series has ended. It is still extremely popular in Japan and is actually set for a re-release on January 2, 2010 with re-cut footage from the 2009 Super Sentai series.

  16. velcrodots says:

I remember we had two groups in primary school, the kids who played Power Rangers and the kids who played Captain Planet. Power Rangers got banned cos they kept kicking people in the head haha

  17. Chivonne says:

I wasn’t allowed to watch it. It’s was too “violent”. Funny thing is I now am obsessed with Dexter and CSI. Apparently, blocking out Power Rangers from my child hood did nothing haha.

  18. Irma says:

This show was so bad ass. I wanted to be the pink ranger so badly growing up. I think the last season I watched was when they had the season in space on that ship or whatever. After that, it never was the same.

  19. Dayna says:

    Gosh so sad

I remember when I was a kid, I’d drag my little brother to the living room to watch it so that if my parents saw I could say that he wanted to watch it. lol

    I <3 <3 <3 Billy in blue

    RIP Zordon and MMPR

  20. Selina says:

When I was younger I loved this show. I wanted to change my name to Kimberly so bad that I’d start signing my sheets in school with that name.
My teacher ended up having to talk to my mom to get me to stop. LOL
