The 2010 Golden Globe Nominations Have Been Announced
'Up in the Air' leads the way with 6 noms

The Hollywood Foreign Press announced the nominations for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards earlier this morning and revealed that George Clooney‘s new film Up in the Air is the movie to beat, garnering 6 total nominations. Both Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock each received double noms (Meryl will be going up against herself in the Comedic Actress category while Sandra received noms in both the Comedic and Dramatic Actress categories). Here is a run down of which movies and TV shows scored Golden Globe nominations this year:

Up In The Air, starring George Clooney, led the nominations at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, with six nods, it was announced Tuesday morning – along with double-barreled recognition for both Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock. Among Up in the Air’s nominations were those for best drama, best actor for Clooney and best director, Jason Reitman. Streep will essentially compete against herself, as best comedy actress in both Julie and Julia and It’s Complicated, while Bullock picked up nominations for leading dramatic role in The Blind Side and as comedic actress in The Proposal. In the dramatic movie category, Up in the Air will be up against Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds and Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. Comedy and musical best-picture nominees are (500) Days of Summer, Nine, The Hangover, It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia. As best dramatic actor nominee, Clooney will be going up against Tobey Maguire, Brothers; Morgan Freeman, Invictus; Colin Firth, A Single Man; and Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart, while Streep’s competition in the comedy arena will be Bullock; Marion Cotillard, Nine; and Julia Roberts, Duplicity. In best actress for a motion-picture drama, Bullock is up against Emily Blunt, The Young Victoria; Helen Mirren, The Last Station; Carey Mulligan, An Education; and Gabourey Sidibe, Precious. Best-comedy actors contenders are Matt Damon, The Informant; Daniel Day-Lewis, Nine; Robert Downey Jr., Sherlock Holmes; Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (500) Days of Summer; and Michael Stuhlbard, A Serious Man. On the small screen, the best dramas are True Blood, Big Love, Dexter, House, and critics’ favorite Mad Men. 30 Rock, Entourage, Glee, Modern Family and The Office are in the running for best TV comedy. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Jan. 17, with British funnyman Ricky Gervais as host.

You know, up until this moment I hadn’t really thought about how many great acting performances have been featured in both film and television but seeing this list of who will be competing against who really shows that there are a lot of talented people vying for award recognition this year. I have a few movies to see before I can make my picks (particularly Up in the Air and The Hurt Locker, among others) but I’m happy that some of my fave TV shows have been recognized. Dexter, ye gods, MUST win this year. Who are you rooting for? Have any of your faves been snubbed? Click HERE to see a full list of this year’s Golden Globe Award nominees.

  5. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

I WANT MERYL STREEP TO WIN EVERYTHING!!!

  6. Kendra says:

I’m SO happy John Lithgow and Michael C. Hall were both nominated..They both did such a great job this season..Especially John L.! All in all, a pretty good list..

  7. Kendra says:

IMO, Jennifer Carpenter was robbed..She wasn’t my favorite on Dexter, but this season she totally won me over..She should have been nominated just for that scene in the parking lot where Lundy was killed! It was so heartbreaking and so real! I hope the Emmy’s don’t snub her..She deserves at least a nom this year..

  8. Cheryl says:

Dexter needs to finally win. I’m sick of it being just nominated. It deserves the award. Oh, and I am so sick of 30 Rock being nominated for everything. It is so overrated.

  9. Kendra says:

@Cheryl – Uhhh..WHAT?? I TOTALLY disagree..30 Rock is awesome!! It’s so quick and smart..I’ll contend that it’s not for everyone..Just the smart people.. ;) Kidding!!

  10. Cheryl says:

@Kendra – I watch it whenever I get the chance. I mean, it’s funny, but I just don’t understand why people love it sooo much!

  11. Tracy says:

TRUE BLOOD!!! I am so excited! And Big Love! Fantastic. If those win, I will be thrilled.

  12. Ria says:

omg the golden globes are such bureaucratic bullshit! wtf were there on when they nominated sandra bullock twice for ‘acting’ in some of the lamest movies ever?

and true blood? ew. i never understood the appeal of this show, which is basically just vampire/redneck porn.

but best wishes for anything mad men-related, matt damon and colin firth!

  13. Carolyn says:

Trent – You (and everyone else!) must see The Hurt Locker asap. It was by far one of the best movies I’ve seen all year. I was able to see it at a special military-only pre-screening in DC this spring that was attended by Kathryn Bigelow. We got to chat with her and the writer of the film after the screening – they were both so kind and gracious. It’s packed with amazing performances, particularly by Jeremy Renner – who I was surprised didn’t get a Golden Globe nod himself. It’s not really a film about war, per se, so much as a character study of the people who keep going back to it. Go see it – you won’t be disappointed.

  14. aimie says:

@ria… sandra bullock was great in the blind side. i totally think she deserves a nod for that… but i agree about true blood while i like the show… the acting isn’t award worthy.

  15. CHASE says:

    - Wait, why is ‘Avatar’ nominated if it hasn’t been released yet? I thought it a movie had to be released in order to get a nomination?
    - I hope Sandra Bullock wins. She needs to do more serious roles.
    - I’m glad Morgan Freeman has became resilient in the industry again.
    - I can’t believe ‘The Hangover’ got a nomination. I didn’t find it THAT funny at all.
    - True Blood does not deserve to win. I like the show but the past season has been pure crap. I’m sorry but it has. It totally lost direction and went all over the place. Plus, Anna Paquin’s acting is awful. She has gotten better, yes, but no way should she even be nominated, let alone win.
    - And wasn’t that girl who played Precious nominated?!?!

  16. Jessica says:

I agree that Sanda Bullock deserves the nomination, The Blind Side was an incredible book and she helped make it a worthy movie :)

    Hope she wins

  17. chrys says:

Shame Jennifer Carpenter who plays Deborah Morgan, Dexter’s sister wasn’t nominated. She was brilliant this year.

  18. Sarah Jane says:

Katie Sagal was robbed! Her portrayal as Gemma Teller this year in Sons of Anarchy was phenomenal, and she completely deserved to be one of the nominees in BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA. Oh well…if this season was any indication, she’ll receive a nod next year for sure.

  19. Lisa says:

What is up with FOUR gLee nominations? It’s a cute show, but not Golden Globe worthy….

  20. District 9 Fan says:

WHERE IS DISTRICT 9 IN THE NOMINATIONS?!
