Hollywood was shocked by the news yesterday that 32 year old actress Brittany Murphy died of cardiac arrest but today we may know why she died so suddenly. The autopsy of the young actress may have just gotten underway earlier today but the LA coroner has already announced that he believes that Murphy died of natural causes. It is being reported that Brittany was ill in the days leading up to her death but until the toxicology results are in we won’t know for sure if that illness or any controlled substance played a part in her death:
Brittany Murphy’s family said the actress was ill with flulike symptoms in the days before her death and prescription medications were taken from her home, the Los Angeles coroner’s office said Monday. The 32-year-old star of films such as “Clueless” and “8 Mile” died Sunday morning after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home. Paramedics tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said they will conduct an autopsy Monday to try to determine what killed the actress, and said her death appeared to be from natural causes. He said the reported illness could have contributed to her death, but it will be weeks before a final determination is made. Toxicology tests will be performed, and officials will contact her personal physician to get a better sense of Murphy’s medical history, Winter said. Neighbor Clare Staples said she saw firefighters working to resuscitate the actress Sunday morning. She said Murphy was on a stretcher. Murphy’s husband, wearing pajama bottoms and no shoes, appeared “dazed” as firefighters tried to save her, Staples said. “It’s just tragic,” she added. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. “The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy,” Murphy’s husband and family wrote in a statement. “She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
There has been much speculation and conjecture surrounding the circumstances around Brittany‘s untimely death but until we know anything for certain, I think it’s wise and respectful to not jump to conclusions. If the coroner believes that she died of natural causes then there is no reason to believe otherwise … that is, until more concrete information is made available. I’m still pretty shocked that Brittany is gone … it is just a sad, tragic loss.

My money’s on heart failure due to an eating disorder. She was SO thin! That’s how Karen Carpenter died. I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s what the Dr. finds. Very sad.

Brittney’s passing was far to soon.this beautiful actress was not only talented..but as of yet had not done any substantial nude scenes,nor are there many scantily clad photos of her..while my heart goes out to her family and friends..i can only weep at the thought that she is forever lost to those of us who enjoyed every new thing she did..and that we will forever wait for the next one.but mostly i regret that i will never have the oppertunity to sit quietly in my room at my computer and scan the web for any new Brittney Murrphy nip slip pics…or nude scenes or the ever infomous sextape..not that she would have done any of these..but while she was alive there was always hope..alas friends we will never get to masturbate to her in all her glory..this is truley a sad time for the world..

@It’s Trent, Bitch! coroners typically perform autopsies. coroners generally don’t pronounce death, because they don’t get to the bodies until they’ve already been pronounced dead.
I keep getting this image of her in girl interrupted when she hangs herself. It’s beyond creepy to think she’s gone. I thought she was a really good actrice, and I will miss her.

According to the notes, the medications included Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med) and miscellaneous vitamins.
The notes say, “No alcohol containers, paraphernalia or illegal drugs were discovered.”

As a lawyer, I know that “natural causes” at this point really only means that it wasn’t foul play, murder or suicide. There are a whole lot of other reasons that could have lead to her sad and untimely death (heart condition, meds, anorexia, other issues …). So really, we know nothing until the tox screen is done and they release the findings. Truely sad :(
I still can’t believe such a young star is dead well before her time. I am relieved to here that so far her death was a natural one. It’s always so unbelievably shocking to hear about a stars passing and then to find out about the dark side of the world they lived in. She was one of my favorite movie actresses. I LOVE Clueless! Also I do have to say that it was a lot nicer reading these comments then it was reading some of the garbage people wrote on Sunday’s post. I’m sincerely happy to see that people are learning to have a little more compassion and respect.
