‘Clash Of The Titans’ Releases New Posters, A New Trailer
"RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!"

Hollywood is planning to remake another classic film but this time around, I’m actually on board with those plans. The original film Clash of the Titans (which starred Harry Hamlin and Laurence Olivier and is based on the Greek myth of Perseus) was released in 1981 … a time when movie making special effects were still in a primitive state (at least, compared to today’s standards). But even back then, Clash relied on FX techniques that were not up to par with really big budget movies of the time (ie. Star Wars). What I’m getting at is that the movie’s FX looked cheesy even back then. Warner Bros. is releasing a big budget remake of Clash of the Titans starring Sam Worthington as Perseus and from everything I’ve seen thus far, it looks effing fantastic. Here is one of the film’s movie posters:

Directed by Louis Leterrier, the March 26 release stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Jason Flemyng, Alexa Davalos, Izabella Miko, Nicholas Hoult and Pete Postlethwaite. In Clash of the Titans , the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

I am such a huge fan of the original that I was wary of a remake but thankfully, the trailers I’ve seen for the film have impressed the hell out of me. As much as I love the original film, I always found it cheesy as hell … I’m glad to see that the remake takes all the best parts of the myth and treats them very seriously. After the jump, check out a couple more movie posters and a effing amazing trailer for the new version of Clash of the Titans

Ye gods, the monsters look AMAZING!!! I’m deffo adding Clash of the Titans to my list of Must See movies for 2010. It really looks like next Spring will bring us a great batch of movies … Iron Man 2, Sex and the City 2 and now Clash of the Titans. Any fans of the original out there? What are your thoughts on this remake after having seen this ridic movie trailer?

Okay, most of the times I think remakes are a horrible idea (Nightmare on Elm Street) but this looks great. The original is fantastic that with this days technology I think they will hit a homerun. I am really looking forward to this. This is actually the first time I have heard of it. I love the poster of the three witches!! SO EXCITING!!!

Yes Yes Yes! Clash of the Titans is one of my favorite movies of all time — great story, characters, totally entertaining. Though I’m rarely a fan of remakes, this one looks INCREDIBLE.
Just hoping they don’t go too overboard with special FX that they miss out on telling a great story. Too many times Hollywood relies on visuals to carry a movie, and I hope it doesn’t happen here because the Clash of the Titans is a great story — man vs. gods vs. beasts vs. good vs. evil

  7. Margie says:

Agree with Trent about the original. Harry Hamlin was in it and it just brings back vivid memories of my childhood.

Clash was one of my childhood favorites! When I heard about this remake I was worried. I still am. I hope they stay true to some of the classic scenes – the Andromeda sleepwalking scene, the transformation of Calibos, the scene where Persus visits the witches and they’re cooking a person in the cauldron, Medusa’s blood creating giant scorpions… The list goes on!
In case you can’t tell, I’ve seen this movie a lot! :)
(Oh, and if Bebo isn’t in the remake, I’m walking out.)

I saw the original in the sixth grade when we were studying Greek Mythology (which I’m not really a fan of but found it interesting) and while I do agree that the movie was cheesy, it was made in 1981. They didn’t really have all the special effects like we do now and I’m sure it was a big thing in the day. I’m sure people 30 years from now will watch Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers’ and find the special effects bad and cheesy. It happens. Anyways, I’m a bit peeved that they’ve showed glimpses of Medusa. In my opinion, they showed a little bit too much with all the glimpses and they should keep it a little more tightened. I’m not a fan of the Medusa poster even though many people will know what happens. Medusa is the best part of ‘Clash Of The Titans’ and they should really save her character last for the surprise element. I’m excited!

  10. CHASE says:

Oh, and the original Medusa was pretty freaky so hopefully this one will be, too. And, not to be pessimistic or anything but the original men in the movie look slightly better looking…

This was my favorite movie back in the day. I just hope that they do not mess with the owl!!! LOL

  12. kk says:

  13. aldo says:

is it just me or does the plot sound exactly as disney´s version of hercules?

  14. tenraGS says:

Love the original. The tech work was standard for the times. Harry Hamlin’s legs still spark fantasies for me. I was pregnant & hormonal but those legs, just made me crazy with lust. I’ll give this one a try.

  15. James says:

The original was wonderfully cast. Laurence Olivier is Zeus. I am not sure anyone could measure up to him.
