Cheryl Cole Does ‘Q’ Magazine
Reveals herself to NOT be a Lily Allen fan

Cheryl Cole, a member of the UK pop group Girls Aloud and one of the judges on Britain’s American Idol-like TV series X-Factor, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of the British music magazine Q. Here is Cheryl‘s Q cover and a portion of her coverstory interview wherein she explains just exactly why she is not very fond of Lily Allen:

One person Cheryl Cole will not be bringing good tidings to this Christmas is her famous foe Lily Allen. Rather than forgive and forget their run of public spats over the years, Cheryl has reopened their bitter feud in a no holds barred interview in which she made her feelings about the Smile singer very clear. The 26-year-old Girls Aloud star appears in the February edition of Q magazine in a hard-edge gothic-inspired cover shoot. With dark eye make-up, red wine lips, drenched hair and with a spiked metal ring, the X Factor judge shows she is a force to be reckoned with. In the interview, the star said she was unrepentant about branding Lily a ‘chick with a dick’ back in 2007. Cheryl made the comments on Gordon Ramsay’s F Word show after Lily had publicly branded her husband Ashley Cole ‘horrendous’ and her bandmate Nicola Roberts ‘the ugly one’. Speaking to Q magazine, she recalled: ‘She called my husband “horrendous”. ‘Then she called Nicola “ugly”. For another female artist to call you ugly is so awful. ‘Nicola’s been called “ginger” all her life, then she makes something of herself and everyone calls her the “ugly one”. ‘I feel very protective of her and if that means I’m going to call Lily “whatever”, then I don’t care.’ Cheryl also revealed that she initially thought Lily was being ‘complimentary’ in her 2006 B-Side track Cheryl Tweedy (Tweedy being Cheryl’s maiden name). The lyrics included the chorus: ‘I wish my life was a little less seedy / Why am I always so greedy? / Wish I looked just like Cheryl Tweedy.’ But Lily later commented: ‘I was being ironic. Nobody wants to look like that.’ Cheryl also told the magazine about her doubts over the band’s 2004 hit Love Machine. She added: ‘I remember listening to Love Machine and thinking, “We cannot put this crap out,” that’s what I said to the label: it sounds like something Busted would do. ‘Then it went to Number 2. I was, like, Oh right. OK. I’ll keep quiet.’ Speaking about her own solo debut, many [reviewers] have detected a wronged woman tone in the lyrics to songs such as Make Me Cry. ‘Well I suppose you’re drawn to a song because you connect with it in some way. Even the ones I haven’t written on. But nothing was written in context,’ she says. Today her superstar status is such that Cowell has granted her a 100 per cent pay rise between X Factor series. ‘Can’t complain about that’, she confirms. Gordon Brown and David Cameron have fallen over themselves to signal their endorsement. The former with a Downing Street photo opportunity last year, the latter proclaiming Cole the most fanciable one in Girls Aloud. But she doesn’t seem to be a fan of Cameron? ‘Brrrr! she grimaces. Slippery, isn’t he? ‘We’ve always been Labour in our family, it just feels wrong not to be. Better the devil you know.’

I’m certain that not many Americans know who Cheryl Cole is (or Girls Aloud, for that matter) but fans of British pop music should be well aware of her emergence as a solo pop star. I managed to get my hands on her debut solo album 3 Words and really like it. I’ve played some of the tracks for some friends and they have fallen in love with Cheryl Cole as well. I don’t expect she’ll ever make a splash here in the US (after all, Kylie Minogue is still relatively unknown here in the US) but I don’t mind admiring Cheryl from afar. After the jump, check out a few photos from Cheryl‘s Q magazine photospread — you might like what you see …

These photos look a bit too Sin City for my tastes but, again, I’m happy to see Cheryl in an publication that will have her. Any Cheryl fans in the hiz? What do we think of our girl in this issue of Q mag?

I’m a big fan of Girls Aloud (GA) and do love their music and their concerts are fantastic. I’m happy to see that Cheryl Cole’s doing great as a solo star but I hope that this does not mark the end of GA.

  6. Lana says:

I LOVE Cheryl Cole! I wish she would debut in the US.

  7. Irma says:

I want to like her but her marriage to Cashley Cole ruins her for me.

  8. Anne says:

I love Cheryl and I love Girls Aloud! Anything to get their names out there is great!

  9. Nicola says:

Argh, some of us UKers are sick of Cheryl Cole.

  10. J says:

Firstly Trent, Kylie is first and foremost an Aussie. She started her career ACTING and SINGING in Australia. She is based in the UK.But i’ll let this one slide and totally understand where you are coming from.

I view the US as a central Urban Music Nation. The 90s was the Pop era and Urban still dominated in that on its whole court. But these days, there isn’t a TOp 10 single that isnt Urban usually. It’s hard to even crack a Top 10 single for a US artist let alone an artist from a different nation.

However, the UK has had a lot of luck past few years. Amy Whinehouse, Duffy, Leona Lewis (#1 Single and #1 Album), Adele (Best New Artist Grammy) are the big ones. So i wouldn’t say Cherly doesn’t have a chance, with that said though, those other artists aren’t necessarily POP like Cheryl which goes against Cheryl.

There are very few Pop Artists who are successful left in the US. Britney among them. It seems the Pop Artists who are left, are more Electro or Urban. Britney has done this too but she still has that POP sound. In do disrespect, I believe the US has absolutely no taste in music whatsoever.

I’m pretty sure they don’t understand what electro/dance or house music is. I do enjoy Nickelback sometimes but for the most part, the US don’t understand Rock & Roll like they used to. And they are probably the rudest and snobbish nation to foreign artists having a crack and introducing their music.

If cheryl tries her luck at the US i wish all the luck she is going to need. But i don’t bet on it considering her sound isn’t that welcoming anymore to the US. Not only that, to chart well you need to have an Urban backing really. Radio airplay in dominated by Urban music and the popular/mainstream Urban music is also payed on Pop/Mainstream radio. Therefore, Urban artists like Beyonce, Kanye, Alicia Keys and even Justin receive double the chance at charting HIGH or going #1 because their airplay is doubled from two different types of radio. Then sales are put into the picture and they just dominate everyone else.

For someone like Britney to attain a #1 with Womanizer over T.I.’s Whatever You Like and Live Your Life was a REAL feat that her fans didn’t think would happen because of T.I’s airplay. And then for Britney AGAIN to go #1 but this debut was something out of this world that not even an Urban artist can seem to do. She didn’t receive a lot of credit for that even though she deserves an award seriously. Britney may not sell the way she used to (lack of promotion i believe) – she does BLOODY WELL to throw out those Top 10 and recently #1 hits against the Urban artists.

I’m HUGE HUGE fan of Cheryl Cole and Girls Aloud. I don’t care if she doesn’t make succes in the US, as long as she continue doing what she does, whether in solo or in Girls Aloud. Cheryl must be the most beautiful and sweet person in the world and only good things can happen to her.
    Love Love Chezza ♥

  19. Baaah says:

And BTW this photoshoot is amazing, so fieeeeeeeeerce
What I love about Cheryl is that she is working hard, on music, on perfomances, as a mentor whatever… no matter what she does, she try to do her best. So I really believe than anyone who give 100% trying to achived the best, like she does, deserve being succesful. But just for the record Girls Aloud has more than 7 yr of career and 20 songs at top 10 in the UK became the most succesful Girl Band ;D

  20. ChimFan says:

I love this photoshoot and the Sin City theme LOL.
and is unbelievable how Lily Allen fight with EVERY girl that is more beautiful and talented than her. Just shows how jealous and envious Lily is. Get a Life Lily Allen. But I kinda understand her, fight against someone like gorgeous Cheryl, must be hard ’cause she got no chance of winning
