Brittany Murphy Passes Away At 32
The young actress passed away due to cardiac arrest

Shocking and very sad news to pass along today … TMZ is reporting that Brittany Murphy has passed away due to cardiac arrest! As is always the case with news this fresh, details are slim but here is what is being reported right now:

Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ. She was 32. A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire Department tells TMZ. We’re told Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Murphy starred in such films as “Clueless,” “8 Mile,” and “Don’t Say a Word.”

I am completely and utterly shocked! I loved Brittany as Tai in Clueless and she always held a special place in my heart ever since. I seriously am at a loss for words. I cannot believe that this has happened :( I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this as more details become available. For now, let’s send our love and condolences to the Murphy family for their loss. This is so tragic … rest well, Brittany.

I respect this blog, however with all due respect, I feel that “Peace the Spork Out” – is even worse.

Nothing is sacred anymore. Everything has been turned into some lame catch phrase or slogan…even the tragic passing of one’s life.

I think it’s because people are afraid to feel, to let things be in their true raw form. People feel complelled to package it, to commercialize it, to make ti sound “catchy

  2. Heather says:

Man, these new people never would have lasted back in the ‘peace the spork out’ days …

Poor Brittany, she was indeed a talented little actress. Sad news. =(

  3. Susie says:

oops ” catchy”, because the bare reality of it just too much too stomach. It’s sad, really.

  4. allison says:

i just watched a movie with her in it last night and I was talking about how much I loved her! Peace the spork out Brittany!

  5. zozo says:

    @ aimie
no im not new and peace out is usually used in reference to a couple breaking up by Trent and is usually used by most people when leaving a place

  6. Susie says:

@ aimie – I’m not new either. I’ve been reading this blog for over 5 years.

I just finally said something when I saw it was a topic of discussion because I’ve felt this way all along, and I agree. I think the point is that there is a time and a place for everything, and we shouldn’t be so casual when referencing a tragic passing of a life. It’s not Trent’s fault really either, it’s just the general direction that society has gone in so natually the majority would find it acceptable.

Wow can you people get past the caption on the story and i dunno, actually read the story!? Celebrity or not, Its such a tragic loss of life. Why would you rather devote your time and energy trivializing a simple expression used to express condolence? Talk about insensitive….

  8. VV says:

So sad. Not to mention shocking. 32 is no age to die. She was delightful in Clueless and great in Sin City, and seemed like a real sweetheart.

As for arguing about some pink text on a photo, words fail me. The caption’s not rude, neither is it disrespectful. Sure, it’s a bit casual and modern, but that’s no crime. Not trying to second-guess Trent, but would he have written the words in the pink paragraph if he wasn’t truly saddened and shocked?

  9. Zsófi says:

I hope she is in heaven and is happy. Her friends family and others- stay strong.

  10. Lisa. says:

I’m honestly not shocked. I saw a picture of her last week and she looked so sick. She was wayyy too thin, and I was seriously worried for her!
At the same time it soo sad. She was way too young to die. I loved her in Clueless and Just Married <3! RIP Brittany!

“I don’t know why I listen to you anyway, you’re a virgin who can’t drive”

This is one of our favorite Britney Murphy quotations of all time. Whether people want to admit it or not the movie Clueless was a classic and Britney Murphy was a big part of that. Popular T.V. shows like the Hills, The City, Real World, and even now Jersey Shore owe a big thanks to Clueless for finding out that the majority of people ages 18-34 LOVE watching teenagers and 20somethings with a lot of money talk about fashion (“this is an alaia, an awhatta”), love (“your man christians a cake boy”), drugs, goals, dreams, drama etc etc. Ms. Murphy was the start of an era that lives on, we kinda love her! Who knew??

  12. Chivonne says:

I don’t ever personally know these celebrities that die but I always feel so sad when they do. It’s almost like I’ve lost a family member or something. I guess because you see them in movies and you feel like you know them and that is their real life. I feel so bad for her family and everyone who actually knew her. Ashton K. Tweeted something about this earlier. I was all “awwwwwwwwwwhhhhh ):!”

  13. Fashionista says:

Today is my birthday. this, just sucks. She was SO good. I was just listening to “Boogie Wonderland” and “Somebody to Love”…she’s great. God Rest Her Soul.

  14. nisha says:

this is just so shocking. its so sad she was so young and just a great actress. i too will always remeber her from clueless.god bless her soul. R.I.P Britney

  15. Kage says:

I will forever love Brittany Murphy as a wonderful actress.
From Molly on Almost Home (The second season of The Torkelsons)
to Tai in “Clueless” to Daisy in “Girl, Interuppted”, she was always so authentic.
    She’ll definitely be missed.

  16. Keri says:

Wow! I’m speechless. I can’t believe this isn’t just a horrible rumour. :( This is so incredibly tragic. She was such an amazing actress and had the singing voice of an Angel. May she rest in peace and her family find comfort in these sad times.

  17. Peacebaby says:

I loved your movies. RIP <3

  18. Carolyn says:

I agree that it was anorexia. She’s the Karen Carpenter of this generation. Let’s hope this brings awareness for the cause.

  19. andi says:

definitely sounds like anorexia to me…There is a reason for everything. Hopefully her death will be an example to all those who are suffering from an eating disorder, hopefully it will be enough for them to seek help. The Terri Schivo (sp?) Case did it for me, I was 17 years old and weighed 72 pounds. I am 5 feet 4 inches tall…Terri Schivo saved my life…hopefullly Brittany Murphy’s death will do the same for someone else.

It’s too bad that she couldn’t see how beautiful she was…Rest in Peace, Brittany. There are no scales in heaven, you can sleep now <3

  20. Alyse says:

That’s so sad, i really hope her family is ok. She was such a great actress and its so terrible she died so young
and with the peace out? i dont find it offensive. I think it sounds almost affectionate as Trent seems to be a big fan of hers and would never disrespect her on purpose.
