Here are my selections of my fave music of the year. I’m afraid it was another lackluster year in music releases but, thankfully, there was enough great music to make 2009 bearable. Here is my list of my Top 10 Fave Albums of 2009 in reverse order:

At #10 is a tie between Whitney Houston‘s I Look To You and Mary J. Blige‘s Stronger With Each Tear:

Whitney Houston managed to pull off a stunning comeback with I Look To You (an album she’s been promising for years now) and I was lucky enough to be among the first folks to hear the album at an album listening event here in SoCal. Whitney‘s ’09 effort is full of great tracks, many of which got a lot of play in my house this year. Mary J. Blige‘s album just came out last week and I’m already crazy in love with it. It almost didn’t make the list but I’ve been listening to it non-stop since I bought it … compared to so much of the garbage that was released all year long, Stronger With Each Tear really shines brightly.

At #9 is Pete Yorn‘s Back & Forth:

Pete Yorn released another album this year with Scarlett Johansson and that disc, IMHO, is horrible. Back & Forth is classic Pete Yorn, full of great songwriting and melodies. There is a quality to Pete’s voice that really resonates with me … always has since he debuted on the music scene. This album is one of my fave pop/rock albums most definitely.

At #8 is White Lies, To Lose My Life …:

This British band was recommended to me by a Pink reader and I am so thankful for the head’s up. White Lies have this gothy sound to their music, which is most deffo pop in nature. They remind me a bit of a pop version of Bauhaus. This album was a very nice discovery this year. I can’t wait to hear more from this young band.

At #7 is Mariah Carey, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel:

To be honest, this album is far from Mariah‘s most successful album … and that is a damn shame. There are a bunch of really great Mimi tracks on this album that are just as good as the biggest, most successful singles of her career. It wasn’t until my good friend David Russell declared this album Mariah Carey‘s best of all time that I gave it serious consideration (David‘s opinions on pop music are impeccable). This is a great Mariah album, one which will prolly not be listed as such among her other monster hit releases.

At #6 is Bat for Lashes, Two Suns:

Lush, sensuous, mesmerizing, beautiful, magical. I can only think of adjectives when describing this album. It is a stunning effort by a new star on the musical landscape. My only wish is that Bat for Lashes enjoys a very long career so that she can continue to make music this wonderful.

Angelina Jolie is back to work this week on the NYC set of her new movie Salt and was snapped in a very warm and furry outfit earlier today:

My guess is that this is fake fur but who really knows. She does cut a fine figure in this ensemble tho, the look really suits her. She looks good, no? Salt will be out in theaters in 2010.

On Saturday we saw a few cute photos of designer Marc Jacobs and his beau (husband?) Lorenzo Martone as they canoodled on a beach in St. Bart’s for Xmas. Today we get to see Marc all coupled up with a book and his favorite thing in the world … his Hermès Birkin bag:

Hee hee, we see Marc Jacobs out and about with his Birkin bag more than we see him with Lorenzo or even his BFFs like Victoria Beckham. To be honest, I never once guessed that Jacobs might be toting around books in that expensive bag. I’m not entirely sure what book it is that he is reading in these photos but I’m glad to see the guy relaxing on holiday with a book. Marc Jacobs never struck me as a reader … but it is a good look for him, I think.

Last week we saw photos of Kylie Minogue and beau Andrés Velencoso making their arrival in Barcelona, Spain so that they could spend the Xmas holiday with his family. Today we get to see a couple of cute photos of Kylie spending some alonetime with one of Andrés‘s sisters around town … behold:

You know things are getting pret-ty serious between a couple when significant others are hanging out with the siblings like this. Mebbe this sister was filling in Kylie on funny stories about Andrés and vice versa … mebbe they were talking about upcoming wedding plans … who knows. It is very telling, tho, that Kylie would choose to spend this time with the Velencoso family. Yep … looks pret-ty serious, indeedie ;)

Last week we got our first look at the first movie poster and first video trailer for the new film Valentine’s Day which seems to feature pretty much every actor in Hollywood and is scheduled for release on the week of February 14, 2010. At the time, I noted how cool it was to see so many cool actors featured in the film … including Bradley Cooper who, as it appeared in the trailer, was coupled up with Julia Roberts. It turns out that Bradley‘s character is actually gay and he is really coupled up with Eric Dane, who is not featured on the movie poster at all and is only briefly glimpsed in the trailer … nowhere near Bradley Cooper. Do you suppose

Yesterday was a very rare day for me. Not only was I awake and productive enough to get my Sunday’s worth of work done AND able to drive out to LAX Airport to pick up David all before noon … BUT I also spent most of the day (the actual daylight hours) out of the house and in the wild. Okay, so mebbe not so wild but since David and I had a full free day to ourselves, we ventured out to Silverlake to have lunch at Pho Cafe before spending the rest of the day putzing around Los Feliz together:

I cannot stress enough how delish Pho Cafe on Sunset Blvd. is. Everything is moderately priced and absolutely the tastiest food ever. I could eat there every day. As I said, the rest of the day was spent walking around sipping coffee, visiting bookstores … ’twas very nice. Now that David is home from his travels, we’ll be together for the rest of the year!!

I’m gonna try to get out to the movies tonight cuz I really want to see A Single Man … we’ll see if that happens. I have a few errands to take care of but, for the most part, this week is going to be lazy and relaxing. Ahhhhh.

British TV is preparing the way for the return of their amazing series Skins which will debut its 4th season next month. As you may recall, an entirely new cast of players was announced around this time last year for the show’s 3rd season … a move that was not initially well-received. The original cast of Skins (which included Dev Patel who went on to star in Slumdog Millionaire and Nicholas Holt who went on to star in A Single Man) was so beloved that any notion of a new cast was frowned upon. IMHO, the new cast only added to the show’s richness and provided just as much entertainment. The “new” Skins players were featured in an issue of Nylon magazine earlier this year and the show itself got enough attention that MTV is planning a US version for airing here in America (an idea I vehemently oppose). In any regard, a new season of Skins is nearly upon us … here is the first group promo pic from the new season:

I cannot believe it’s been almost an entire year since the last season aired in the UK. I was fortunate enough to be able to watch the series online on You Tube as it aired overseas but now, because of You Tube‘s new policy of restricting international video, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch along so easily this time around. I understand that this upcoming 4th season of Skins will be the last to feature this cast of young players (the original cast were only featured in 2 seasons as well) and that an entirely new cast will be featured in season 5. I love this show so much. BBC America airs Skins in its full, uncensored version here in the US but they do so months after it debuts in the UK. David Beckham, who spent Xmas morn with his wife and kids and Xmas night with his friends the Ramseys, has already packed up his shizz and made his way to Milan, Italy to meet up with his European soccer team AC Milan for their upcoming season and to prepare for the upcoming World Cup … behold:

All eyes were on Posh’s bony chest and gaunt face as the WAG queen stepped out for dinner with husband David, 34, at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants in Chelsea. It’s fair to say she probably didn’t take up the Christmas pudding and brandy butter option for dessert. Victoria, 35, braved the freezing weather conditions to reveal her bare chest – her collarbone and upper ribs worryingly visible through her skin. The superstar couple had seemingly taken the time to plan their outfits for the evening out down to the smallest detail. They wore almost identical blazers, Victoria opting to wear nothing underneath her top and matching the smart jacket with a pair of trousers and black stiletto heels … The Beckhams clearly haven’t tired of Ramsay’s cooking, having had him round to Beckingham Palace for Christmas with wife Tana to cook the turkey. But no sooner had Christmas come to an end than David was returning to the day job, flying into Milan yesterday. The LA Galaxy star is returning to the Italian giants on loan for a second time for the city’s AC Milan side in order to prepare for a call up to England’s World Cup team. Becks could conceivably make his debut on January 6 against Genoa. He has been warned by England manager Fabio Capello that unless he plays regularly at AC Milan he will not be in the team in South Africa next summer.

This is David Beckham‘s last real chance to make the World Cup team for England so I’m sure he’s going to play diligently for AC Milan to prove to the English coach that he is up to the task. I’m pleased to know, World Cup or no, that David Beckham will be back with the LA Galaxy later in 2010 so I’ll happily root him on in his quest for the World Cup. I’ll also be rootin’ for Mrs. Beckham to put a bit more meat on those jutting bones but, well, I think my efforts might be better spent elsewhere. Go, Becks, Go! Good luck!!

Lindsay Lohan, who has been spending the holidays this year with her family and friends in NYC, decided to venture out this weekend to partake in some after-Xmas shopping with some friends:

Clearly, Santa Claus did not bring her all the things on her Xmas list this year so she felt the need to venture out into the NYC shops to procure some new stuff … cuz, you know, Lindsay needs new stuff. For Saturday night’s activity, Linds treated her younger siblings Aliana (Ali) and Dakota (Cody) to a hockey game.
