Bummer news for fans of the CBS daytime drama As the World Turns … it is being reported today that the long-running soap has been canceled and will go off the air in September of next year. Now, I don’t watch ATWT but I’m well aware of the show’s groundbreaking storyline that revolves around same-sex couple Luke and Noah and I am really saddened that this daytime drama will be coming to an end. Once ATWT ends its run, CBS will only be producing 2 daytime dramas (which are, incidentally, my fave soaps) The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful:

And then there were six. The ailing soap industry took another hit this morning with the announcement that CBS has canceled As the World Turns. The show will end its 54-year run in September. The move, which comes just three months after CBS bid adieu to Guiding Light, will leave just six soaps on the air. The number could soon shrink to five if ABC axes One Life to Live, as has been rumored. “We are disappointed and saddened by the news that the show is not being renewed,” said ATWT exec producer Chris Goutman in a statement. ”It will certainly be a loss for all of us, and for the show’s loyal audience.” Producers are shopping the show around to other outlets, but don’t hold your breath. A similar effort was mounted for GL, and we saw how well that worked out … To watch the once-mighty industry wither away like this is beyond depressing.

It seems pretty obvious to me that very soon all of the daytime dramas will be off the air … it’s just a matter of which soaps will last the longest. I take heart in the fact that Y&R is the #1 daytime drama on TV (and has been for many years) so it and its sister show B&B have good chances for survival … but they cannot last forever. It’s really crazy to think that soap operas may be no more … and soon! This is very sad news for fans of daytime drama … the writing is very clearly on the wall. Which soap opera will be axed next?

Yesterday we got our first look at the first photos released from Lindsay Lohan‘s new photospread for Muse magazine (shot by photographer Yu Tsai) and we learned that the ménage à trois theme of the shoot was an homage to Kate Moss and Johnny Depp (or some such nonsense like that). Sad news for the Beckham family to pass along today … it turns out that David Beckham‘s grandfather, Joe West, passed away last week requiring Victoria Beckham to leave her children here in the US so that she can lend her support to hubby Becks at the funeral. When last we saw photos of VB here on the blog, she seemed to be having a blast with her sons at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure over the weekend. Now she has the sad duty of attending her grandfather-in-law’s funeral. Here are pics of VB making her way thru the airport on her way to the UK to meet up with Becks (who is already home in London) and a photo of Posh and Becks with his grandparents on the day Becks received the OBE from Queen Elizabeth, II:

Victoria Beckham made a typically glamourous entrance in London this morning after arriving on a flight from Los Angeles. Wearing a silver lamé halterneck vest and matching cardigan from her fashion range, wet-look black leggings and a £415 pair of blue Yves Saint Laurent Trib Two platform heels, Posh looked more like she was going to a disco rather than boarding a 10 hour flight. Meanwhile, while Victoria, 35, was flying over the Atlantic last night, her husband David, 34, looked sombre as he dined out in London with a friend. The England player is currently grieving the loss of his grandfather Joe West – father of his mother Sandra – who died last Wednesday following a serious illness. David had just landed in South Africa for the team draws of the 2010 World Cup when he was informed of Joe’s passing at the age of 83. Speaking at the event, he paid tribute to his beloved granddad: ‘It’s what Grandad would have wanted. My grandad was very proud of me being a part of this bid to bring the World Cup to England. If I had decided to go home, I know what he was like – a strong person from the East End of London – he would have shouted at me for leaving because he was passionate about his country.’ Following his trip to Cape Town, David jetted back to England, where he has been comforting his mother, 59, and grandmother Peggy, 79. Wearing a brown checked jacket and jeans, David looked deep in thought last night as he left the Cipriani restaurant in Mayfair, where he had been dining with best friend David Gardner. Victoria is expected to reunite with David at Claridges Hotel today, ahead of the private funeral service on Wednesday.

It is always sad to lose someone so dear, my thoughts and prayers go out to Becks and his entire family. It’s unclear just how long the Beckhams will remain in the UK (considering both Posh and Becks have biz to take care of there all the time) but I’m sure they’ll be home here in SoCal soon enough, what with the Xmas holiday quickly approaching. Deepest condolences, again, go out to the Beckham and West families.

Things have been relatively quiet in the Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal for the past few days … except for a bunch of new allegations of new mistresses coming to light (bringing, thus far, the count of “other women” Tiger is said to be cheating with to a grand total of 9) there had been no other news to report on the events and circumstances that erupted from his car accident just after Thanksgiving … until now. RadarOnline is reporting that Elin Nordegren, Tiger‘s wife, got fed up with all of these new mistresses coming to light and has packed up her bags and moved out of their home. I guess she drew the line when the mistress count got to 9. As if that wasn’t crazy enough, a new 911 call was placed from the Woods‘ home and a women was taken to the hospital overnight last night (presumably Nordegren‘s mother Barbro Holmberg, who just arrived in the country to lend her support to her daughter). Yes, folks, the shizz has hit the proverbial fan … and it’s gettin’ even messier. But first things first … here are the alleged deets of Elin‘s decision to move out:

Tiger Woods’ wife Elin has moved out of their house, RadarOnline.com is reporting exclusively. The explosive development follows numerous women coming forward with claims of affairs with the golfing great. Elin Nordegren had enough and moved out of the $2.6 million Windermere home,neighbors and other sources close to Tiger, told RadarOnline.com exclusively. Sources tell RadarOnline.com that Elin is living nearby in another house … Tiger and his reps are keeping Elin’s move top secret and hope she will come back to the house as soon as possible.
