Victoria Beckham and her eldest son Brooklyn Joseph made their way to Clay County in Kentucky for a 2-day visit to spend time with the impoverished children there. Vicki B. and Brooklyn spent much time with the kids in class but they also spent some time playing as well … here are a few photos:

Victoria Beckham spoke out about childhood poverty today after taking her eldest son to visit some of the poorest children in America. The former Spice Girl and 10-year-old Brooklyn engaged in a number of activities run by the Save the Children charity during a two-day trip to Clay County, in the state of Kentucky. Mrs Beckham said the visit had shown her the need for all children to have an equal start in life and helped her son learn about the responsibilities of his generation. The mother-of-three and Brooklyn took part in a number of programmes last week, including teaching football, reading to toddlers and providing literacy and nutrition tools to parents on home visits. At Manchester Elementary School, in Manchester, Kentucky, they participated in an after-school programme involving reading and healthy snacks and handed out Adidas shoes and backpacks. And during a visit to Big Creek Elementary School, in Oneida, the pair took part in a book bag exchange, where toddlers were given bags filled with books, and read one of their favourite stories, Duck In The Truck. Beckham also met school principals and teachers to try to understand the challenges they face and the support provided by Save the Children’s programmes. Clay County, in the south-east of Kentucky, is one of the poorest counties in America, with a childhood poverty rate of 47.8 per cent and an average household income of $19,728 (around £12,000). Beckham said: ‘What I saw in Clay County was the hope and promise inherent in every child. That’s why we have to make sure every single child has a fair and equal start in life. ‘Seeing Save the Children’s innovative programmes in action, I know that we can begin to reverse the childhood poverty crisis. ‘I’m pleased Brooklyn is learning that, by helping and joining other children, he can play a role in making his generation the greatest yet.’ Mark Shriver, managing director of Save the Children’s US programmes, who accompanied Beckham and Brooklyn on the visits, said: ‘By advocating a fair start for all children, Victoria is setting a powerful example for learning about and understanding the challenges confronting too many children in America today. ‘Instilling in Brooklyn the value of generational responsibility, she knows that a better sense of unity among children will make a future America and global community even greater.’ Mr Shriver continued: ‘These trips create invaluable awareness- building and advocacy. We look forward to continuing to work with Victoria to ensure that every child in America gets a fair start in life.’ Save The Children’s US programmes serve 50,000 in nearly 200 of America’s poorest and most remote communities.
I have to say, I am very impressed that Victoria and Brooklyn gave so generously of their time to shed light on the state of poverty in this country. I had no idea that Vicki B. was at all interested in such matters and I can really appreciate that she wanted to bring her son with her to lend a hand. After the jump, check out a few more photos of VB and Brooklyn chillin’ with these kids in Kentucky …

I may rib her a bit about various unimportant things but I am happy to commend on her on this latest endeavor. Not too many celebs spend any time thinking about the state of poverty here in the US so I’m quite impressed that VB has taken note. Well done, Victoria ;)

She’s actually dressed for the occasion! I’m impressed =D
That last pic is really sweet :)
yaaaaay! vicki b. is finally smiling!!!
Good for her, I hope she continues on this path!
There are so many good things about this story.
On the trivial side of things: Flat shoes and smiling? Both look great on her. I hope she does both more often.
More importantly: Not only is it great that she’s teaching her sons at an early about the importance of philanthropy, she’s also doing it here, at (one of their) home(s). Up until this point, I had the impression she didn’t really like it here. I’m glad to see she likes the US enough to share her time and money with deserving causes.
Maybe the “Evil Robot” has had an upgrade? Kudos to her!
Yay! I’m also glad that she dressed perfectly for the event. Not too “posh”, y’know? :)
Look at how happy those kids look, too…. It kinda makes me feel a little warm n’ fuzzy inside.
So bad ass of Victoria. I imagine they chose the school because it’s called Manchester. But this is so awesome. The Beckham Boys are absolutely privileged and blessed beyond belief (alliteration? damn), but this, once again, shows how grounded the Beckhams are with their kids. Maybe I missed it, but when exactly was this? Brooklyn was down on the field with David last night after the Galaxy booked their spot in the MLS Cup final! (which I thought you would’ve covered Trent! especially with that new haircut of Becks’…)
I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it a million more..I LOVE Vicki B.!
@Irma – Go Galaxy!! I’m so proud of our LA boys.. :) And I swear..Sometimes I think that David can’t get any hotter and then he changes up his look again and BAM!! Instant love again..
LOVE her!! I am happy we finally have a picture of her smiling..and a genuine smile at that. She rocks.
I love her big smile!
That’s so nice of her. I like seeing this genuinely caring & fun side of her.
I am FROM Clay County! What a good story for my town! There is a lot of poverty here for a lot of people. However, I don’t want people to think that it’s ALL bad. It’s a pretty good place to live too.
These pictures are so sweet and show her that she is a good person and cares about issues. also makes her look more human!
Shes Smiling :)
Awww!! That’s awesome. Such cute pictures. She was in KY! Granted I live far away from there, but still!
i read an interview with her once where she talked about how much she loved kids. she said she wished she could have 4 or 5! so it makes sense that she would want to find a way to give back that directly helps children. good for her!
Good on Victoria for doing this. I genuinely do think that she has got a good heart but that she does not always show the best of herself in public.
Good of her to do something like this. I also love that she brought her son along.
On a side note Vicky looks so much better when she dresses down like this.
