‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Brings In Over $140 Million At The Box Office
The 3rd biggest opening weekend EVER!

BIG news for The Twilight Saga: New Moon this weekend … it looks like it enjoyed the third biggest weekend box office opening of all time here in the US pulling in OVER $140 million in just 3 days. The film pulled in another $118 million in the rest of the world bringing it’s overall weekend box office total to $258.8 million!!!

The vampire romance “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” sucked up $140.7 million in its first three days and pulled in a total of $258.8 million worldwide, according to studio estimates Sunday. The No. 1 domestic debut for Summit Entertainment’s “New Moon” was more than twice the $69.6 million haul over the same weekend last year for “Twilight,” the first in the franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s novels. “New Moon” placed third on the all-time domestic chart behind last year’s $158.4 million opening weekend for the Batman blockbuster “The Dark Knight” and 2007′s $151.1 million haul for “Spider-Man 3.” On Friday, “New Moon” set an all-time domestic high for opening day with $72.7 million, topping the previous record of $67.2 million had been held by last year’s “The Dark Knight.” Overseas, “New Moon” debuted in 25 countries and took in $118.1 million. “New Moon” continues the story of teen romance between a school girl and a vampire (Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson), with the sequel adding a love triangle with a teen werewolf (Taylor Lautner). Opening at No. 2 this weekend was the Warner Bros. football drama “The Blind Side” with $34.5 million. The previous weekend’s top movie, Sony’s disaster tale “2012,” slipped to third-place with $26.5 million, raising its domestic total to $108.2 million.

I credit the big box office bucks to Taylor Lautner‘s abs … approx. $23 million per ab (X 6 = $140 mil.). I totally knew the movie would have a big opening weekend and was sure it would be the #1 movie … but $140 million?! No way I was prepared for that. The record books now state that Batman: The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 3 and The Twilight Saga: New Moon (all sequel films, btw) are the movies with the 3 biggest opening weekend box office tallies … that is INSANE to me. These Twilight films are basically a license to print money for Summit Entertainment … they really hit the jackpot with these films. It’s unclear how much more money the film will make during its theatrical run but I’m guessing it will pull in many more millions before it’s all said and done. Again, I say … Wow!

I’m proud that my $30 went into that pot.

  2. CHASE says:

I’m going to see it for the third time today! I know, I’m pretty cool like that. And LOL @ the ABS, Trent! : ) I’m pretty sure this movie will make at least $300 million the U.S.

  3. Lizzy B. says:

i agree with trent that taylors abs brought in most of that money…but it was a great movie! the abs were just a plus =D

  4. Smoo says:

I disagree about the abs. People are obsessed with R-patz. did u hear the theater explode when he was on compared to taylor? Secondary at best

  5. Jenna says:

Yah this does not surprise me at all! Don’t underestimate the twi-hards! lol I plan on contributing even more of my money to them! Maybe several more times!! LOVED IT!

  6. Nicole says:

Is it ok to say those kind of things about Taylor? He is an underage child. Just sayin…

  7. Alycia says:

Happy to here the news but not that surprised. I am sure fans will go see it a few more times each. I know after a few weeks I will want to go see it for at least a third time before it leave theatres and we have to wait for the blue ray.

  8. Ashley says:

Not surprised! I freaking loved it, and plan to see it atleast once more. And Taylor… wow. In my theater, I’d say Team Jacob and Team Edward were just about even, though it seemed Team Jacob was mostly composed of the Mom’s… creepy.

  9. ausettofegypt says:

Ok Summit, now put some of that “opening weekend” money aside and start the “breaking dawn” process. No one wants to wait any longer than a yr for the final film.

  10. persephone says:

yeah, ive watched it.. acting still bad.. but what made me stay on my seat is jacob’s abs!

  11. Katie says:

    Sooo ridiculous.

  12. Megan says:

Come on Trent, he has an /8/ pack. You need to redo your math. :P

  13. Jessica says:

I actually thought it was gonna hit #1, I’ve never seen theatres so packed myself.

  14. Danny says:

@Nicole….whatever, he’s gonna be 18 soon! Guys have sex with girls who are younger than them all the time. People can admire Taylor if they want to, its not like he’s a 13 yo boy. He has an adult man’s body practically. It’s all about sex, do you really think anyone is seeing this movie for the storyline? It’s just about sex!

  15. Isabelle says:

    Overrated much ?

  16. Jaks says:

I saw and tried to like it but man that movie was just not good to me. I can’t put my finger on why since I enjoyed Twilight.

  17. hapacalgirl says:

Oh the power of the tweens and cult followers. Even Taylor’s abs will not get me to watch this movie especially since the books are apparently crap. Also based on the previews a lot of the main actors leave a lot to be desired in the acting department. So bad/cheesy story and bad actors…yeah I think I will stay away from this one.

  18. Joe says:

@hapacalgirl: maybe you should read it and watch it to try and gain your own opinion instead of judging it by a preview or where ever or whom ever said the books were crap. Think of it as an informed opinion instead of biased and easily lead by others.

  19. ausettofegypt says:

@ Danny, WOW… “almost 18″ will still land you in jail. The biggest excuse is “she/he did not look that young she/he had an adult body” come on!

  20. Yii Zhu says:

yeah the acting was quite bad. very amateurish for such a big production. but hey, i still went to watch it!
