The Turtle Party: Portrait Studio
Yesterday was prolly THE most lazy day I’ve enjoyed in some time. I spent much of the day in bed watching the first season of Dexter as a refresher of how amazing the series is. I managed to rally by nightfall so that I could meet up with The Turtle Party: Book Club for last week’s rescheduled meeting last night. We talked about our progress with Charles Bukowski’s Post Office and, by and large, everyone in the group seems to love it. There were a few things about the book that some folks didn’t like (the repetitiveness of the chapters and some obvs exaggeration, for example) but for the most part the group really likes the book and Bukowski’s writing style as a whole.
Last night’s meeting was the first in a long time since all members of The Turtle Party: Book Club could be in attendance, so I brought my Polaroid camera to snap a couple of group shots for posterity:

I also snapped individual pics of each Turtle Party member, you can see those Polaroid scans HERE. The night was filled with mirth and merriment … and a bit too raucous of conversation because some nosy neighbors called the cops to complain. Apparently a ground of young adults discussing literature after 8pm is enough to force the police to investigate. The officer who followed up on the complaint laughed his ass off when he found out that he was trying to bust up a book club meeting.
See, reading can be so much fun!
The Turtle Party: Book Club meets again a week from Tuesday to finish discussion of this book and will select our next book to read.
Tonight, David and I are meeting up with our friends Emma and Josh to see Imogen Heap in concert at the Henry Fonda Theater. Imogen has been really sick lately, she even canceled her performance in Santa Barbara, CA last night … so I hope the show goes off tonight … just not to Imogen’s detriment. If the show happens as planned, I’ll do my best to bring fun pics to share tomorrow!

That is so hilarious that the cops came…to a book discussion party!!! LMAO!!! It would probably be curtious to let the neighbors know the next time this event happens…so they can make sure they are out for the night!!!! LOL!

Cops came to break up a book club? Too cute.
Btw how do you all choose the books for your book club? I’d be interested to know how you all come to a consensus! (sorry if you’ve already explained that and I somehow missed it)

Glad that you’re digging “Post Office”! I think his books “Women” and “Factotum” are also worth a read. Don’t bother with “Pulp” though, it’s awful!
