Taylor Lautner, star of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, was on hand to make an appearance on The Today Show on NBC earlier today in celebration of New Moon in Theaters day and did his best to bring his charming smile to all his eager fans … he even took the time to blow kisses to the folks in the audience:

And with this smooch to fans, Taylor and the entire Twilight family is hoping that you will rush out and see The Twilight Saga: New Moon in theaters today. Already, the movie set a new box office record for midnight showings last night taking in over $26 million already:
The Twilight Saga: New Moon has set a box-office record for midnight screenings. Summit Entertainment estimated Friday that it earned $26.3 million after opening early in the morning. That would topple the previous midnight record, held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It earned $22.2 million this year. The Dark Knight from 2008 is third with $18.5 million. New Moon is the second installment of the popular Twilight series. It opened at midnight in 3,514 theaters with a per-theater average of $7,476. Paul Dergarabedian is a box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. He says the midnight start “portends an opening weekend that could be one of the biggest of the year. “
And so … Taylor and his Twilight cohorts have done everything they can to get your butts in theater seats. I know many of you have seen the film already (and are prolly planning to see it again) but are any of y’all planning on seeing New Moon this weekend? Do y’all think it will be the biggest money maker of the year?

I will be seeing New Moon tonight in a theatre with people over the age of 21 with a drink in my hand. I’m happy about both! :)
Saw it last night at 12:30a and was quite pleased. I’m not their “target audience” so of course I found some flaws but overall, it’s soooo much better than Twilight.
I think it’ll definitely be a big moneymaker this year. Twilight fans were disappointed with the first movie and the Studio really made up for their shortcomings with New Moon.
@ Abby: Saw it at a “21 and over” theater…they still scream when the boys come on screen. There really is no escaping it.
My theater was a mixed bag. Moms w/ young kids who were quite obviously fans themselves, teenagers, etc. A lot of yelling for Team Edward in the beginning, but after about the 23498230948234th time Jacob popped up shirtless the crowd seemed to shift their allegiance.
I’m going to the 11:30 showing tonight! I thought that might be late enough to avoid the tween crowd, but we’ll see. I’m hoping we see as much shirtless Taylor as we saw of Hugh Jackman in Australia!
I feel like i am starting to OD on all of this Twilight coverage! It is everywhere!
I skipped work and saw it this morning at a smaller theater and I was successful in avoiding any screaming fans.
Enjoyed the movie very much =)
After last night, I converted to Team Jacob! But only Movie Jacob. The book Jacob is annoying as hell but Taylor makes me like Jacob, the character, a lot more… : )
why is this such an insane phenomenon?? The books really weren’t that good, and the first movie sure wasn’t either. But, I do love Kristen and Rob I gotta say.
@CHASE… Totally agree with you! He’s very annoying in the books. Lautner does make him more likeable in the movies.
Er, when is Dr. Drew Pinsky going to do a Twilight Saga Sober House?! Ok, ok….even tho I probably need it, I wouldn’t go ;) New Moon is an improvement over Twilight and I hope they keep on getting better. Kristin Stewart, in all fairness, appeared to be really trying to bring Bella to life…maybe we should quit hating on her…just sayin’. Jacob on screen is WAY better than Jacob in the book (thanks Taylor), Edward looked *amazing*, as did the Volturi and the action scenes involving them were fantastic! I wouldn’t discourage non-fans of the books from going because I’ve seen some come away (from Twilight) having enjoyed it – but overall, if you’re not a fan of that genre (at the very least), you probably wouldn’t care for it. Oh, and it’s only Friday night and I’ve already seen it twice….paging Dr. Drew…..
Saw it last night, will see it again sometime this weekend.
Officially Team Jacob now!
i’ve seen it twice already. i got a 10 am ticket for friday cuz midnite shows were sold out. but broke down and got ticket at our new little local theatre yesterday so i went twice in 12 hrs. haha. it was great. i liked that they took more liberties with changing it a bit… the changes they made really made the movie better. new moon was my least favorite book in the series, but i doubt the movie will be my least fave of the series.
taylor really makes jacob!!! he MAKES that character. count down to eclipse now!!!! yeeeehaw
This movie is more crappy than the first!!! You people have THEE worst taste in movies…
Okay, just got back from seeing it. Better acting, better music, and truer to the book. Kristin Stewart looked beautiful in this movie! I can’t decide if it is her physical maturation or her maturation as an actress. Either way, very satisfied with this one. What did you think, Trent?
i’ve already seen it twice. i went at midnight with a bunch of friends and then tonight again at 10pm with a few friends…the second time i saw it i was still just as excited as the first time…waiting in line the first time for like an hour was worth it and then at 10pm we stood in line for 30 mins…i love the movie!!!!
It will be the bigget mneymaker of the year and break all sorts of records…. that will only stand untill the last two segments of Harry Potter come out… I’m pretty sure they will break all records.
@Christine,
International records won’t come close to HBP for this. US might. The demographic for this movie simply is too limited to make a serious run at 10 figures, USD. Plus, 29% Rottentomatoes… non book fans aren’t going to be spreading this by word of mouth.
Opening day numbers are impressive, however.
In a side note, I wonder if a 17 year old girl were being as overtly sexualized and lusted after by 40yo+ “twi-dads” as TL is and by “twi-moms” if it would be seen as socially acceptable….
he’s soo hot omg *swoon*
I went to the 9pm showing of Twilight on Thurs Nov 19 and stayed for midnight showing of New Moon.I actually felt there was an even mix,if not more,of adults than teens.I went with my teenage daughter, her boyfriend and a friend of mine.I am going to see it again on Sunday morning with a cousin who couldnt make it the other night. Was well worth the wait.I am Team Edward all the way,but there was no denying the appeal of Jacob..Now the countdown to Eclipse begins lol!!!!
I LOVED IT!!! Team Jacob all the way (I saw it at midnight) If you were Team Edward in Twilight Jacob will make you switch right over to his side, Bella got on my nerves though!
