I like Rihanna, I do, I think she is a phenomenal singer, and I know that I’m going to get reamed for this but,……. but I have a problem with her saying “This happened to me. … It can happen to anyone,” This HAS been happening. She is not the first person to be physically abused, millions of women, AND men are abused everyday, but they don’t have the resources she has to get out of their situations. I hope that she uses her resources to help the unknown & silenced abused.

The timing is a little disconcerting. It’s the one thing I truly dislike about celebrity. The fact that people will turn tragedy into a way to promote themselves is so wrong. It’s good that people in such a public spot want to talk about these sorts of things and bring attention to it, but when they only bring these things up in order to gain public attention for their new project, it somewhat cheapens it.

It’s funny how even the most private of celebrities will gab about anything when there’s something to promote. I guess if they want to exploit themselves, it’s their choice.

I’m sorry, but when Whitney Houston was on Oprah did everyone jump on her back about only talking about it b/c she has an album to promote? No. Same for any celebrity who has a story to tell. Regardless of when she had an album out, this is all anyone would want to talk to her about.

So it is the same time as her album coming out. Who cares? Wait until we hear what she says before judging her for it.

While I think it is courageous of Rihanna to speak out about domestic violence, I think it’s unfortunately that this opening up coincides with her album release.
