‘Moon’ Shine
After a failed attempt to see the film on Thursday night, I finally was able to see The Twilight Saga: New Moon yesterday afternoon so that I could weigh in on all the hoopla. Long story short, I really enjoyed New Moon and found it much, much better than the first Twilight film:

To be clear, I did NOT find New Moon to be a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but, considering how poorly written the books are, the movie did a good job of making the story more compelling. I liked the allusions to the Romeo & Juliet story … something I missed in reading the book. If you’re gonna make reference to a piece of literature, you might as well go for the greatest writer of all time. Thankfully the melodramatic hysterics present in the book were toned down A LOT in the movie … tho, I laughed my ass off during the scene where Bella was seen sitting in the same chair for “3 months” — LOL! For me, the werewolves make the movie … they are much more interesting than the vampires, I think. Add to that the fact that they are mostly nekkid in much of the film and, well, you can see the appeal. I also found Rachelle Lefevre’s performance as Victoria very compelling … she just has a cool look and I thought she did an excellent job in the role. It just KILLS me that she was fired from playing Victoria in the future films because the movie studio wanted a bigger name in the role. Rachelle IS Victoria … this movie proves it. The FX are great, I loved the wolves in action … I found the chemistry between Bella and Jacob much more palatable than her chemistry with Edward. Taylor Lautner is good as Jacob. The scenes with the Volturi were really comical but passably entertaining … all in all, I did enjoy myself at this movie. Twilight fans should love it … and how anyone can NOT be Team Jacob is beyond me.
Oh and if you need another endorsement, just read what writer Anne Rice has to say about New Moon the movie:
Saw New Moon last night. Definitely in the tradition of Bronte’s Jane Eyre and DeMaurier’s Rebecca: a romance about a young girl longing to be taken seriously by a powerful male figure. No wonder it strikes a chord in so many.
After the movie, David and I made our way to the 2nd Stage Theater to see the Blank production of The Santaland Diaries starring Nicholas Brendon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame). After the jump, check out a fun pic I got to take with him and hear my thoughts on the play …

The Santaland Diaries is a one man show based on the writings of David Sedaris. They tell the “semi-true” tale of Sedaris’s stint as a holiday elf working at Macy’s in NYC. Brendon is AMAZING in this show … he shows a full range of emotion and expertly delivers some of THE funniest lines Sedaris has ever written. I strongly urge those of you here in SoCal to see this show … it’s really very funny. Nicholas was so cool after the show, he graciously posed for this fun pic :)
After the play, David and I hightailed it to Pasadena to party with our dear friend Gillian on her birthday:

Gillian held court at the 35r and we had a blast. It was so fun celebrating with G last night :)
Tonight, David and I will be spending our last night together before he flies home for the next week. I’m not sure what we’re doing but I’m letting him decide. I’m really gonna miss him … we’ve been together for so long now, I don’t want him to go ;(

Trent: I’m glad you finally got to see New Moon, and I’m jealous about the play! I figured anything David Sedaris would be funny. I have to say my first thought walking out of new moon was “wow I never though I’d be team jacob”. I never was “team” in general, but Taylor Lautner really made Jacob (and the bella jacob chemistry) seem much better and endearing then it read in the book. And I was suprisingly impressed by his performance! The groan worthy lines were still there, but somehow he managed to downplay the cheese factor (“age ain’t nothin but a number baby, what are you now, 40″….um. seriously?) And comparing the werewolves (a random group of actors picked to play the “important” support group to the lead role) to the cullens (another random group of actors picked to play the support group to the lead) and I felt they were better as well…mabe its just cause they get to be more light hearted and funny, and thats easier to do then stone cold seriousness without coming across as trying too hard, but I thought the pack had good chemistry and were enjoyable to watch.

i liked the sitting in the chair for 3 months thing, because to me, that’s what it feels like when you’re totally devastated. you zombie-walk through life, never knowing what the heck you even did that whole time.
i also think it was a good way of showing the part of the book that does the same thing.
November 21st, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I agree that the three month chair sitting was a bit much… I think it could have been made a bit more believable if she had at least changed her clothes. Each time the camera panned around her I really hoped to stop seeing those navy blue sweats !
November 21st, 2009 at 3:17 pm
I’m glad you’re at least admitting how poor the books are…
November 21st, 2009 at 3:29 pm
I agree with the chemistry with Bella and Jacob, but I hated the comment about the book. Lets not forget the books really, actually MADE the movie. I thought the movie was kind of disappointing. I LOVED the books, and hate it when people think the books are poorly writen…doesn’t that make the movie BADLY WRITTEN since it’s BASED OFF THE SO CALLED POORLY WRITTEN BOOKS? I think Summit is just trying to hype the movies up to more than what they are worth. I think Taylor saved the extremely boring movie….I think Robert is a great actor I just can’t wait to see him do something else..tried of him as a vampire. I really hope Tim Burton does Breaking Dawn, that’s the only way I’ll go see it!
November 21st, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Saw it last night with 3 friends of mine and our four 13 year old daughters. Of course the girls ooohhh and aaahhhh throughout the entire movie. Taylor Lautner is quite the slice of underage eye candy.
I don’t know a thing about this story and didn’t see Twighlight. New Moon was good, I guess. And I’ll probably get clobberd for this, but Kristen Stewart is really a horrible actress. I guess maybe the character is supposed to be like that. Never changed facial expressions from beginning to end. I couldn’t tell if she was happy or sad, probably because she seemed sad the entire time. I think I may have caught a slight grin, but it was fleeting and I think I halucinated it. Plus during the forest scene when it got dark and music played for an eternity I dozed off. It did pick up after that though.
I had no idea that Peter Facinellie (sp?) was in this or Dakota Fanning either. Kinda cool. Anyway, I’m not bashing it, I guess every generation needs their bit of worship. Unfortunetly when I was 13 it was David Cassidy and Leaf Garrett.
November 21st, 2009 at 3:42 pm
I liked the chair scene but I was lmao when they showed Alice vision, you know Edward and Bella in their white outfits running in the woods… actually the whole audience was laughing out loud ;) but I still really enjoyed this movie
November 21st, 2009 at 3:46 pm
@Doo – yea, our audience laughed very loud at that scene also. It had a very 2009 Little House on the Prairie feel to it.
November 21st, 2009 at 3:51 pm
@Nicola — I never denied the poor source material, Stephenie Meyer is a horrible writer who hit the MF jackpot.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:00 pm
I agree the books are poorly written and the two ‘main characters’ Edward and Bella have no character going for them. They have ‘looks’ and…well that’s about it. They are the perfect examples for what a John doe and Mary Sue are.
However, how the movie goes depends on the imagination and directing of the director. A crappy book can be turned into a wonderful movie. I have been hearing good things about this movie so far. Mainly Taylor’s acting ability and how he portrayed Jacob. He impressed a lot of people, I’m glad he kept his job as Jacob :) He worked hard for it. I also heard though, that some scenes may make you dizzy XD
I’m curious to see this film, but from what I have heard it way better then the Twilight movie.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Ok, so the movie was good for a good time but not a cinematic masterpiece by any means! I guess I’m getting older! LOL!
Now as for the assertion about the actress that portrays Victoria… She was in the movie for about a total 1 minute. How it can be said that her performance was compelling… Well to each their own I guess. She didn’t suck, no. But it wasn’t anything that a few takes and good editing couldn’t come up with with just about anyone.
I do hope Eclipse is better, out of the three books, that was the one I most enjoyed!
Good weekend all!
November 21st, 2009 at 4:17 pm
THANK YOU TRENT! finally someone who agrees with me that Meyer’s writing ability is equivalent to a teenager whose average at english! Reading the books I wanted to laugh. I do enjoy the films though – particularly New Moon. Taylor Lautner was amazing! And the chemistry between him and Kristen was so much better than her and Robert – I’ve always been team Jacob but this just reaffirms that. I think that Twilight is a remarkable series in that it has become so huge, but I put this down to a niche in the market and a story that appeals to young girls – I think the fact that the movies are being spun out so fast has more to do with the producers desperate to keep the phenomenon going than the characters aging. It’s not like Harry Potter which has been massive for over a decade after all. I thought Alice’s vision of Bella and Edward so hilarious – and the rest of the cinema agreed, the laughter at that scene just demonstrated how corny the series is. And the whole idea that Bella is so hopeless without Edward in her life…good message to send young girls! All in all decent film, average series, and please please please keep on having more wolves, less vampires!
November 21st, 2009 at 4:18 pm
i also saw new moon today the cinema was packed so i was lucky to get tickets the time i did.girls were going crazy screamimng everytime edward or jacob came up.the movie was not as good as i thought it would be and i have seeen the first one which i also thought was not as good as people make it out to be.i do like them though but alot could be improved but i definateely have to agree that the writing sucks.i like the funny parts and i thought ashley greene as alice had was great and rachelle is perfect as victoria its so horrrible what they did to her just so mean.other than that my favourite part was with the volturi came well really it was just dakotta fanning as jane.she was so fierece just excellent who would have thought the sweeet and innnocent dakota fanning would play a bad character so well.the close ups on her face and her mannerisms really showed she completely owned the character and i really wished she and the volturi could have been in longer.kristen was good but i think she could have done better it felt just like seeing her in real life at certaion times and the boys obvisouly looked great but the acting was needs to be improved.but i did enjoy myself and thats worth my ticket overall dakota fanning ’s part is what i will remeber and love about the movie even though she only had a small part she gave it her all to give a fabulous performance.go dakotta i can’t wait to see her in more bad roles.thanks for posting
November 21st, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I thought the books were WAYYYYYYYY better than the movies! Twilight BEYOND SUCKED but New Moon, while not a masterpiece was a huge improvement. Bella’s not as annoying although K. Stew still needs to stop acting like she’s, um, for lack of a better word, ACTING. And R. Pat? Much more palatable now that he’s not on edge for her blood. Dakota sucked as Jane. She gave a look here, look there and her makeup was horrid. Other than that, Eclipse should be a promising movie version if they’ve stepped up from the other 2 films.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Imho New moon was such a fluffy tween movie with a floppy storyline and lame dialogue. it was truly-boring. im sorry but it is and i coulnt wait for the movie to end
November 21st, 2009 at 4:50 pm
UMMMM….. NO ONE is paying attention to the most important part of this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trent, darling, WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU AND DAVID????? …..:( it doesn’t sound good. :( I’m sad, I love you two together!!!!!!!
November 21st, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Melissa…didn’t he just say that David is flying home for a week? lol. Read it again…it’s not so alarming ;)
November 21st, 2009 at 5:28 pm
I have to agree that the books are poorly written and I found myself rolling my eyes many times while I was reading them. However, if you just take them for the cheesy, mindless fun that they are, they are quite addicting.
When I read the books, I was on team Edward. After seeing New Moon last night, I have definitely wandered over to team Jacob. I think a lot of it had to do with Taylor Lautner and his portrayal of Jacob. Also, he and the wolf pack were definitely a lot more fun then the Cullen clan.
I can’t wait for Eclipse, which was my favorite of all 4 books. I’m kind of dreading Breaking Dawn though, because I found myself rolling my eyes and making “WTF?!” comments through most of that book. However, with a good director, it may not be so bad.
November 21st, 2009 at 5:28 pm
I would have enjoyed seeing Jacob’s CGI wolf a bit more badass and less shaggy dog. In the books, his character is this super wolf- bigger than the others newbies- more like the leader Sam. In the movie though, his wolf wasn’t nearly as fierce looking as some of the others.
November 21st, 2009 at 5:41 pm
I thought new moon was hugely disappointing. Probably because I was so excited to see it (being a huge fan of the first movie). Kristen Stewart’s acting SUCKS ‘kiss me (eyebrow twitch)’ REALLY?!? so cringeful. i was cringing through like 80% of the film.
I agree I thought the whole volturi thing was a bit ridiculous. too overdramatic. prob the only good thing was jacob! thank goodness he cut his hair he looks x1000 times better! hate the stupid tatoo tho i mean its a cool idea and all but does it hafto be the size of a coaster and like just a big block of ink? urgh horrible.
also the ending was a bit crap. i mean how stupid was it that edward proposed to bella just after bella hurt jacob so badly? obviously bella would be really upset cuz she hurt jacob so badly. talk about bad timing.
oh. yeh and victoria was pretty darn fierce. sucks that she wont be back for the nex film.. altho not too sure i want to c eclipse anymore.
November 21st, 2009 at 6:04 pm
The Volturi were SUPPOSED to be overdramatic. Come on, vampire royalty screams dramatic.
Elly: That’s how New Moon ended. With Edward proposing…. so blame the books for that one.
I loved how they put some funny lines in the movie. The book is very intense, and Chris Weitz definitely kicked ass with his little bit of humour in the script. Or else it would have been veeeery boring.
November 21st, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Damn Trent, are you SURE that you liked the movie? lol I thought it was very entertaining. It wasn’t a cinematic masterpiece, but at this point, we all know what to expect. I cant wait for “Breaking Dawn” to come out. Now THAT’S going to be a good movie. :)
November 21st, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I was able to watch it during the daytme (the pros of being paid-off… haha). There were no screaming girls in the audience, which I was dreading when I walked into the theater.
Surprisingly enjoyed the movie. Good fun. Visually entertaining. Brought the book to life as much as possible. Wish that the director (and future directors) would work more on the chemistry between the Cullens because they all have potential! Vampirs don’t have to be stone-wall cold and stiff!
I am dying to see how David Slate protrays Eclipse now. Would be make sure to work on the chemistry and love between Edward and Bella? Would Edward at least smile once on screen? Would Slate make Jacob to be the jerk like he is in the third book?
I loved the Jimmy Kimmel interview last night! Too cute and funny!
November 21st, 2009 at 6:40 pm
as a fan of the books I have to say I like both the movies and books about the same. i’m more of a visual person thought so seeing the werewolves and such is alot cooler than imagining them up myself. do the movies/ books deserve THIS much hype… I think not!
as for kristen stewart… I just don’t think she works as bella… i’ve gotten used to her look but her deep voice and depressed girl act is tired.
im torn between team jacob and team edward…. but after that like ” things are going to get ugly” delivered by Lautner, I was rolling on the ground laughing. i’ll go with team ed.
November 21st, 2009 at 7:27 pm
really trent. i am disappointed… i loved how they left in the october, november, december. i loved how bella’s narration was placed in unsendable letters to alice rather than just musings so much of new moon is internal within bella and i was dreading the narration… i am glad they figured out a way for her to “vent” out the internal things. i liked the volturi yes, overly dramatic but they would be they have to ooze over importantness. this movie is waaay better than twilight and granted no oscars will be handed out but for what it is… it was a pretty good flick
November 21st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
i agree a 100% that the books were poorly written.seriously.
November 21st, 2009 at 8:21 pm
I can’t bring myself to watch this movie because of all the annoying hype. I’ll wait for the DVD since I was told that you can’t even hear the movie over the squealing girl teenagers anyway.

I don’t understand why people complain about the books and the writing. I mean, I totally agree but they’re just meant for fun, not a literature masterpiece. It just makes me mad when people bash the books because if they were marketed in “The best literature since…” then I can see the bitching but people just compare it that way. I thought the whole 3 months scene was pretty cool and I didn’t find it funny. If anything, I thought the frolicking in the forest was beyond ridiculous IF ANYTHING! That scene really made the movie got a little notch down for me. I can see why people aren’t Team Jacob because Jacob, in the book series, is annoying as hell! I prefer the movie Jacob and I prefer the book Edward as opposed to the movie Edward. It makes sense.
November 21st, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Oh, and I totally agree about Rachelle being Victoria! She IS Victoria but I wouldn’t call her performance amazing or anything because she didn’t have any lines…
November 21st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I havent watch new moon. The tickets were sold out until tuesday. Only one cinema showed new moon in jakarta.
But I heard the special effects are great. I cant wait to watch it. Though the ratings are pretty bad.
November 21st, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Chase, Agreed. I thought certain scenes involved the perfect amount of drama as they did in the book – such as the depression months following the breakup and the beginning scene with Bella’s “grandma”, and one of my favorites – the scene when Edward hangs up the phone with Jacob after realizing Bella is dead, or at least he thinks so. They put much more thought into the atmosphere of this movie. Some scenes were still redic though, like the running through the woods scene and the Jacob takes off his shirt for her cut on her head scene – really? New Moon is probably the one movie that I don’t feel as bad for when they objectify the hot character because seriosuly, the boy WAS half-naked that whole book! He tied his pants to his ankles, that was about it! haha The Volturi scene was fun too, ended up loving the characters they picked, they have the ominous tone going but an added quirk with Aro’s little dialog. Trent, what’s with all the Victoria focus still? I noticed she dyed her hair red this time – finally. She had like what, 3 scenes where she looked “scary”? Big deal. I thought Rob had some surprisingly decent facial expressions this time too, the pained kiss and the breakup scene were pretty well done I thought, probably because both involved expressions that are very easy to do – pained and then no feeling. haha And they used real book lines, like legit, word for word stuff! Nice. So yeah, enjoyed this movie much, exciting and fun movie for a fun and exciting book. And the ending, oh snap! :)
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:31 am
every ones comments are very entertaining to read!! It wasn’t worth all the hype – but Taylor was awesome.
There’s a trailer up on ETonline for RPatz next movie “Remember Me” coming out in the states (and hopfully everywhere else) in Feb. His acting looks so much better.
As much as I enjoyed it, it wasn’t a masterpeice, but even so I can not wait til the release of Eclipse – even though it was my least favourite book – actually tied with New Moon. Although I can tell you the storyline of New Moon, all I ever rememeber of Eclipse is the jacob/bella/edward camping before the final fight and something about seattle vampires – apart from that It’s not a memorable book!
@DJWhoop – you’re right every generation needs its bit of hollywood worship – In my day it was Leonardo DiCaprio & Claire Danes in Romeo and Juliet – but that was just one movie… nothing compared to the insanity of twihards.
If you like vampire books, but want a less sappy PG13 version, you should read The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, so far there’s 4 book (I read all four in two weeks!) but another 2 are being penned. They’re more grown-up and funny. The author writes the way a real person would speek and less like a childs journal. No one ends happily ever after (2 books pending) but the romance is sparce but very intense when it’s there plus there are some moments where you are shocked by what happened and how it’s heartbreakingly described. Plus the world is totally different to anything I’ve ever read before.
November 22nd, 2009 at 4:03 am
I totally agree with you, the Twilight books are poorly written – the fourth one being the worst. But the movie was awesome, I liked every second of it. I mean, people may think it was either too long or too melodramatic, but truth is this movie was a huge improvement of the source material and of the first Twilight movie.
It’s so cool to see that Taylor Lautner can act (while Robert Pattinson obviously can’t) and you’re right about the chemistry between Jacob and Bella… after reading the book and the movie I still don’t understand how can people still think that Edward’s better than Jacob? Which one would you chose between a guy who leaves you when there’s a problem and another who would stand by you and help you whatever happens ? lol ! Some grls are just so stupid ! lol!
Anyway, I still don’t see why Anne Rice thinks the story is about a young girl falling for an older man… isn’t Edward supposed to look Bella’s age ?
November 22nd, 2009 at 4:10 am
Oh and yeah, the moment when Bella wanders in the forest just after Edward left her was beyond ridiculous ! I mean, when she cried it sounded like a pig was groaning and let’s face it she didn’t look devastated at all. Hopefully, the improved score helped the scene being at least bearable… but come one Kristen, don’t you think that you should be getting some acting classes ? And Robert should go with her…
Oh and by the way, I still don’t understand how can someone can cut his finger with wrapping papper. I know she’s supposed to be clumsy and all but it’s the weirdest thing ever….
November 22nd, 2009 at 5:17 am
Jacob is a whiny annoying brat. Taylor Lautner is NOT a good actor, completely disagree, sorry. Boo hoo I’m in love with my best friend….She doesn’t like you and makes it very abundantly clear once Edward gets back. The only decent acting in that movie was Kristen Stewart, R-Patz, & Dakota Fanning. Occassional Alice. Otherwise HORRIBLY ACTED! Taylor is a terrible actor…no presence & boring as fuck
November 22nd, 2009 at 7:38 am
@CNC: The book actually ends with Bella hurting Jacob AFTER Edward proposes. The movie put it in backwards to give a good cliff hanger.
I loved New Moon. I thought it covered the book from begining to end. I also 110% agree with who ever said that the Twlight series is not meant to be amazing and deep literature. It was written as a fun romance story for teenage girls! In that sense- it was written PERFECTLY.
Though I’m not a teenage girl, I enjoy the series because I can pretend I am once again. ;)
@Chase- I also totally agree with you. The New Moon book makes Jacob out to be rather annoying, but in the movie he is who you are meant to side with. I think they did this to set up more chemistry and fan-seperation in Eclipse. I was way Team Edward in the books, but when it comes to the movies I’m heading down Jacob Lane. :)
November 22nd, 2009 at 7:42 am
Jacob was the only one that got my attention during the whole movie! The Edward scenes were just so boring to me, I’m totally Team Jacob now :)
It was so funny when Edward took of his shirt, half the girls in the cinema were like ‘ewww’. It’s a bit hard to measure up to Jacobs body..
And I have to agree with you, the books were very badly written but the idea that SM had was compelling plus she got very lucky!
November 22nd, 2009 at 9:05 am
“It just KILLS me that she was fired from playing Victoria in the future films because the movie studio wanted a bigger name in the role.”– why whould you pass your opinion on as fact?
She was not fired because the studio wanted a bigger name. She was fired for not being available when she was supposed to be. nough said
November 22nd, 2009 at 9:22 am
@Joe — LOL that you actually believe that to be the case :) That may what they SAID was the reason but I don’t believe it for a second.
November 22nd, 2009 at 9:44 am
I so agree with you Trent! I LOVE everyone’s comments. So i will put in my 2 cents. Even tho I have read all the books. I feel like in the movie Bella and Edwards relationship wasn’t more established. If i was watching the movie and had not read the books i wouldn’t get what made Edward so special to her. I also think Kristen and Rob have ZERO chemistry. This movie made me Team Jacob….lol
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:26 am
i may be the only one… but i am glad for the victoria recast… she was never “victoria” to me. didn’t fit the pic in my head at ALL. bdh does.
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
@Joe- there is absolutely NO WAY Rachelle was “not available enough” when it came to these movies. The woman and her managers I’m sure realize this role is most likely the biggest of her career… I doubt she couldn’t make time. They definitely gave the role to someone else for different reasons.
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:30 am
@aimie — Really? I love Rachelle as Victoria … she has such a great, natural look. Her hair, her freckles … she is SO Victoria for me. BDH is a hack, I’ve never been impressed with anything she’s ever done.
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:51 am
I went last night, and I couldn’t help but laugh every time RPatt came on the screen. He looks constipated, and I have to agree that the Alice flash forward was so ridiculous that the entire theater laughed. I mean I get the Splendor in the Grass nod, but it was seriously laughable.
I was also really disappointed with the CGI wolves. Hey Summit, call whomever did the wolves for the Underworld series and asked them to jump on board for the last two movies. Heck you could even call the Blood and Chocolate guys.
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:59 am
I can’t even think of New Moon, all I can think of is Xander Harris! Nicholas Brendon looks awesome in that photo and I’m so pleased to hear that he kicked butt in his show.
November 22nd, 2009 at 11:25 am
You can’t remember the references to Romeo and Juliet in the book because there aren’t any. She references Wuthering Heights, and Bella and Edward talk about Heathcliff (who was the original brooding hero, and destroys everyone around him, which is what Edward is afraid of).
The movie jus uses Romeo and Juliet because they assume all the stupid teenagers (and apparently adults) will only know this piece of literature. But it’s actually a bad swap because Edward wouldn’t think about their relationship as R&J at that time because he leaves her to save her, and does not accept that they are fated to be together like in R&J.
None of this actually matters though, because watching R-Patz act is like watching a pretty cat with deadly constipation.
November 22nd, 2009 at 11:41 am
@ckp — Oh right, it was Wuthering Heights. I can’t say that I blame them for using R&J instead, it works better in a Hollywood sense.
November 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
i agree with you trent. rachel will and will always be victoria in our hearts ugh.
November 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 am

November 22nd, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Trent, that’s why I love you. TEAM JACOB and TEAM WOLF-PACK! What’s not to love? I have to agree, my favorite scene in the movie was when the Wolf Pack was first introduced. I genuinely got excited, and that surprised me. I thought the movie was a really good adaptation from the book, my main complaint was that in the final scene some of the dialog felt out of place, more like Eclipse material, though it was minimal (Particularly talking about Bella’s “Don’t make me choose because I would choose him” Plus, point aside, Edwward is the jerk that prohibits her from seeing Jacob in the books. What the hell?). I also agree that the climax of the movie felt a bit short for me. The Volturi wasn’t as epic as I would’ve wanted, but we already suspected that was going to happen from the promo pics. But New Moon is definitely more watchable than Twilight, and it showed that they had a bigger budget this time around.
November 22nd, 2009 at 12:17 pm
@Chase and @ Katie: I laughed every time I read that the Jacob in the book is annoying as hell. First because that’s probably why I love Jacob’s character. His sense of humor, dry wit and sarcasm. *drools*. Secondly, I think the statement is biased because Edward and Bella are AS annoying!!!!! Readers just want them to be together, that’s why Jacob becomes a problem, lol. That’s why Trent is rightfully says that the movie script does a good job in distilling the book because, IMO, we ARE seeing the book Jacob and we ARE seeing book Edward, and we are seeing Bella. The difference it’s that the movie gives you a more cut-and-dry look at them as characters, which I think hurts Edward and Bella the most, because their relationship can be kind of ridiculous when you really look at it … =/ Anyway, Jacob really reaches his full “annoying” potential in Eclipse *drools again*, and I expect we would see more of Jacob’s attitude and biting humor. At least I pray for it.

i also think book jacob is annoying but i have to keep telling myself… he’s 16 he’s 16!!!! lol. i forgive him some annoyance for that alone. but there is no TEAM JACOB. bella and edward are destined to be together… ying and yang and all that good stuff.
@trent…i am not impressed with bdh in much of her acting sense, but i always pictured victoria differently… and she fits how i saw her in my mind better. rachelle is beautiful and DEFINATELY looked better in this movie than in twilight (she had RED hair this time. lol) but never filled that role for me. idk, why… i was excited when i heard of the recast sad for rachelle, but i was happy

i agree. i agree. i agree. completely. for some reason i feel like kristin and taylor’s chemistry was less cheesy and awkward than rob and kristin. during most of the twilight movie i just felt myself cringing like the whole movie was just ONE LONG AWKWARD MOMENT. and yes. as bad as the books are (writing style), the movie did one better. i love it. amazing.

So that your readers are all informed, please note that Stephanie Meyer, the author of the Twilight Saga is a Mormon. Buying her books, and see the movies is basically handing over money to the Mormon Church to help them continue to spread anti-gay propaganda.
The more you know …

Well I’m Team Jalice- Jasper and Alice. Love those 2. Thought Dakota Fanning, thought she did pretty good. The end? Corny much- Marry me bella. I know that’s how the book ends but come on seriously lame. Kristen’s acting was soooooooooo much better except for the kiss me part- retarded. Rob- lose the chest hair. It’s really gross. The Jacob taking his shirt off part was very random. While everyone else was screaming we were cracking up. Overall way better than Twilight- still pretty crappy though.

Trent,
No, there are actual references to Romeo and Juliet. There are frequent references to the fight between and eventual death of Paris and Romeo that are paralleled to Edward and Jacob. As well as Juliet’s suicide being compared to Edward’s plan to kill himself when he hears that Romeo/Bella is dead.

* in the book I mean, as well as the movie. You should not be so quick to judge books and movies negatively because someone answers your unsure-ness with any answer. It is easy to find many Romeo and Juliet quotes in that book, I just found some five minutes ago when going over the book to remember where it ended.

It was so hard to watch such beautiful eye candy for the first hour and a half of the movie (Taylor Lautner) – then suddenly be forced to witness R. Patz remove his shirt.
It was really very revolting.
My husband has a better chest than that.

You know there’s gonna be a porn based on this series, I’m waiting for that.

They actually did reference R&J in New Moon. They were reading it in school before Edward left.

Hi T- I enjoyed the books, once I started reading them I couldn’t stop, to say they were badly written, surprises me. Can you image how many Teens that S Meyer has now encouraged to read?? Saw New Moon and I keep thinking to myself am I still Team Edward???

The book references Romeo and Juliet many times throughout the series, just never intelligently or with a sense of beauty, so it’s very easy to miss. I am re-reading the series for an embarrassing number of times and the furthur I get the more “chagrined” (LOL) I am for Stephenie Meyer. There is no denying the attractive force the story has but the writing is horrible. The hysteria surrounding it is phenomenal but that can be with anything fan-driven. I’m sure accomplished writers/novelists see the books as laughable but are silenced because of the millions of dollars it continues to heave in. If you ever watch Stephenie doing interviews or speaking about it, you can see how intimidated she looks/gets. You simply can’t write her name on the same lines as other authors with fan-driven books like J.K Rowling, Ann Rice, and J. R. R. Tolkien.
Still, I am a fan at heart. (for many reasons I still can’t explain)

New Moon References Romeo and Juliet in the first freakig page of the book. Wuthering Heights is Eclipse yo!
@ Trent- Rachelle too said that was why she was fired.Do you truly think that the production would rework their whole work schedule and have all the other principle actors rearrange their schedules as well? 10 days is a lengthy bit of time.
Also, do you honestly think that BDH is a “big” name?
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:58 am
@Joe — It’s already been discussed but, I understand Rachelle got the OK to get the 10 day hiatus (esp. after other stars like K. Stew was off doing The Runaways and R. Pattz was doing another movie) and then was fired when she took it. I do honestly think that Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of Hollywood big wig Ron Howard) is a bigger name than Rachelle Lefevre, yes.

considering how poorly written the books are, the movie did a good job of making the story more compelling –> True.

How many more times must we hear that the Twilight series was poorly written? I have no opinion on the matter but really, I nor most Twilight fans have ever claimed that the Twilight series was an extraordinary piece of literature that will be revered for generations to come. It’s a good story and the characters are relatable and interesting. I personally find their histories and motives complex for most pop culture phenomena characters. Complexity, though, doesn’t make a book or character good. It simply says “I put a lot of time into this.” In fact, too much complexity can lose readers, to which I can safely reference the show LOST. It’s name speaks it’s effect. Personally, I enjoy the story for it’s Victorian-era style romance, alike to Jane Austen novels. In fact, Twilight references Jane Austen itself. Bella reads her. It’s better than the trash romances we see anymore in movies.

The Movie was superb!!! The movie was directed on the same lines of the book and made it more exciting, with twilight it was very slow but new moon was great. Jacobbb was the only reason I came to watch the movie, Talkkk bout SIX PACK!!!!. I wish Bella and Jacob kissed it would of put a whole new story in the movie.
I luved the movie and cant wait till it come out on DVD
