I have followed Jude Law’s career for years and have liked his movies. I could care less for his personal life but I have gathered that he has always been a devoted child to his children and is friends with his ex wife.

People going down on Jude as a deadbeat dad just because he has not rushed to see a baby he has not known he was going to have until 2 months ago is what I can not understand.
Would it make an impact to Sophia if he does? She can barely recodnie anybody at this point. He has never said he would not see the baby – it is the tabloids saying it. He has never made a statement as far as I know except acknowledging it and saying he will support the baby.

Has anybody ever wonder that the reason why he has not gone to see her is because of the famehungry mother who would seel pics of the baby and god knows what else just to get her 15 minutes of fame? Why should Jude satisfy her desire to be in the tabloids by visiting the baby rightnow? He has plenty of time to see her when all these hoopla dies down and without the papsand the tabloids around when he do so.

Right now, all Samantha is doing si trying to shove herself and her baby right to his face and I can just imagine how he loves that.

My opinion only – if you decide to have a kid without the father’s consent, be ready to take all the challenges that come
with it yourself without depending on the guy for support. That is what I will do. All these could have been avoided if she just kept quiet instead of famewhoring herself because she wantsto be in the news and toproclaim to the world that she slept with Jude and had his baby.

I think that people, in their anxious pursuit of gender equality, forget that responsibility goes hand in hand with having rights. Women have the right to do what they choose with their body. Ms Burke can choose to give birth to the baby regardless of what Jude Law wants. But that means she is ultimately responsible for the child. By contributing his financial share, Jude Law has met his obligation. She chose to have the child without his consent. That means she is on the hook for more. That, folks, is gender equality.

Women who clamour for rights but shun their responsibilities do the sisterhood no favour. And I say that as a woman.

I still love your blog and I’m glad we could once again disagree about what real gender equality means when it concerns families and child support. It’s an important conversation even if it does use silly celebrities as the examples, and no I’m not a monster, I’m just a devil’s advocate.

Maggietozier, i can see where you are coming from. I’ll take it further and say women possess all the power when it comes to situations like this. Let’s say she let Jude know about the child within the timeframe for a legal, ethical, whatever you want to call it, abortion…but let’s say Jude didn’t want her to have an abortion, he didn’t believe in it, he wanted the baby. Would she have kept it? Heck no.
And so now she’s using Jude and Sophia in a very calculating and manpulative way because people are going to jump to the conclusion that Jude is being a deadbeat because he hasn’t rushed off to change a diaper, when he’s working 8 shows a week. instead of using their thinking caps, they’re “reacting” to a “poor mother stuck with a child and a deadbeat father who doesn’t care” story. And furthermore, they act as if Jude should neglect his older children in the process. As if Jude needs everybody and their drunk aunt telling him how to run his business! He’ll do just fine, but I guarantee you everytime this woman feels neglected (who knows how psychologically sound she is?), she’ll come up with some story or there’s be some quote from some “friend” or “source” and everybody will come down hard on Jude again. The very best possible thing that could happen here is for her to treat herself, her baby, and her baby’s father with a bit of respect and deal with things without the media. But it looks like she’s in it for blood. Quite sad.

Why does he have to build a relationship with this baby? I’m confused as to why he has to have a relationship with a child he didn’t want. He has to pay for it (because our society says so) but why does he have to care about it? If he wants to care about it, great for him, but if not, so what? Nobody made her have this baby. There are all sorts of ways not to have a baby if one doesn’t want to do so, so it’s not as though she’s some poor trapped little thing who’s stuck being a single parent with no help from Mean Jude Law. That entire attitude is crap. She could have used protection, he could have used protection, she could have had an abortion. They/she chose not to do these things so he’s stuck paying for it for the next 18 years but that doesn’t mean that he has any obligation to be the child’s “dad”. If a single woman gives a child up for adoption because she doesn’t want it and doesn’t want to take care of it eveyone says, “Oh what a beautiful gift you’re giving to other people” but if a man says he doesn’t want a child he created he’s some deadbeat monster? That entire attitude is stupid. He’s obligated to pay a certain amount of the bills and that is it.

The only responsibility Jude has to this kid is reasonable child support. Done. But that doesn’t mean he should have to pay for Samantha Burke to sit on her fat ass doing nothing except collecting checks until the baby is 18.

hm i can see both sides of everyones comments but by going by my own personal life lately.. well i was in a relationship and he knew from the start that i was pregnant but didnt become attached till our son was born. it seems jude slept with this woman and forgot about her and then months later shes telling him and the world that she is pregnant. i can see why he wouldnt really feel the need to see the baby. he pays child support and thats what matters. if a man isnt involed with a pregnancy its hard for him to be attached. like they say a woman becomes a mother the minute shes pregnant a man becomes a father the minute he holds his baby. i know it isnt like this for everyone though.

It’s always the children that suffer in these situation. I can see why he may resist and be carefully planning his next steps though…. if woman that he didn’t know very well starts using the press this way, I may be careful in how I proceed as well. I would know that it looks bad but still might be self-protective. I also think he knows the little girl is safe so he does have the room to take his time. It’s not a matter of my child is in danger so I have to act now. It’s more like – I do want to have a relationship but it I will not let this woman dictate how and when that happens.

I would enter into this relationship very carefully if I was Jude Law. Take your time and make sure you are not being used by this fame seeking woman any more than possible. I believe he will do the right things for his child but really he has to protect himself as well as attempt to make sure Sophia isn’t used any more than she has been. How will he prevent her from being a pawn, I don’t know, but take your time and figure it out Jude.

All I know is, he’s devoted to the 3 kids he’s got with him and he has made (at least) financial arrangements to take care of the new baby. He’s taking care of them all. I think he’s a great dad.

Oh, and Jude doesn’t have to aqueisce the public’s expectations about this situation. He will do exactly what his heart tells him to do, and he doesn’t need the public to steer him in that direction…he’s a man that knows how to deal with his own business.
And also…why is it that because he’s seen with Rafferty, Iris, and Rudy, people want to act like he’s doing something wrong because he hasn’t seen Sophia? If Sophia were old enough to be with him, I’m sure he’d have her there too, if Samantha was agreeable to it. But gee whiz, she’s in a bassinet, for crying out loud, so chill and give it time and quit getting hysterical over things that aren’t all that tragic. He’ll have his time with her. It’s not like SB is going to send her on up to New York to hang out with dad just yet. Put on the old thinking caps.

Jaded, I agree with you and several others. This is not a cut and dried situation, and I fail to see why the media keeps being so all-fired concerned AND propogating all kinds of half-truths. Jude NEVER said he would not see the baby…the only thing that Jude has officially said is he is the father and he will support the child. As far as he’s concerned, anything futher is nobody’s business. Samantha has chosen this situation for her debutante coming out, I suppose. Jude asked for privacy, but she sold their child to the tabs. Not good. Sophia is only 8 weeks old…how can anyone begin to second-guess the tricky waters Jude is navigating right now? He is doing 8 shows a week, a commitment he made before he had benefit of knowing he was a father again, pretty much right before she was born and even after she was named, for gosh sakes! Yeah, talk about a woman jerking a guy around! Plus, she has already proven that she’s very much interested in the media attention and will use every opportunity to get the “sympathy attention” if nothing else, and everybody will lap it right up because she’ll be the one talking and Jude will be saying nothing, as usual, so of course her point of view is the correct one, right?
So…what I think is, Jude will see Sophia after Hamlet is done…I think he’ll try to see her apart from Samantha, simply because she’s already made it into a circus, causing another wave of media storm for no good reason, and he isn’t obligated to facilitate her desire for stardom.
And Trent, boo on your “legitimate” label…yet again. Come on…are we living in the dark ages where African-Americans, gay people, and even little children are subjected to labels? Is that very fair? I think not.

You’re right, I don’t know whether or not he’s seem the baby. I’d think, though, that with as much attention that has been brought to the fact that he hasn’t seen her (the babys mothers words), SOMEONE would get the word out that he has seen the baby – just for his own PR.
