Joseph Gordon-Levitt Hosts ‘Saturday Night Live’
(500) Days of Summer and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra star Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the guest host on Saturday Night Live last night and provided the show with the ability to do a bunch of varied and fun skits including singing, dancing and even acrobatics … who knew that JGL was such a multi-talented guy? Here are a few of JGL’s SNL promo photos featured on the show last night:

If I have one complaint about last night’s SNL it’s that they didn’t utilize JGL as much as they should have. While he was included in many of the skits, he wasn’t actually the featured performer in many of them. He played his secondary roles very well (and very funnily, I must say) but wasn’t in the forefront as much as I would’ve liked. To be honest, the surprise guest stars Vice President Al Gore (What’s Up With That?, Weekend Update) and singer Dave Matthews (The Mellow Show) did a little bit of show stealing. That said, I was thoroughly entertained by last night’s ep. After the jump, check out a few of my favorite skits from the show featuring host Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the JGL-less Debbie Downer skit that I feel is too funny not to share …

The Weekend Update was kinda funny as was the movie trailer for Palin 2012. I enjoyed the show very much cuz I just love JGL but, as I said, I wish he was featured as the main skit star more often. It was a great ep tho … what did y’all think? Did you enjoy? Which were your fave skits?

Such a bad ep unfortunately…there is nothing funny about the “What’s Up with That” sketches! Why do they keep that one going??? The only exceptions were the K. Wiig moments :T

don’t forget the new digital short with Andy and Kenan as Reba! That was hilarious

I was so excited for last night’s episode. Been looking forward to it since JGL announced it on his twitter. That said, I turned the TV off during the first DMB performance. I feel they truly wasted his comedic talent. Gordon-Levitt has a great sense of humor and can be hilarious when given something good to work with (as can be seen on Third Rock From The Sun), and I just feel terrible for him because he was just so excited to host. Shame on you, writers!

I loved the Say Anything parody. Cause I love that movie, & I think Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character Tom Hansen in 500 Days of Summer, is a little like Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything. I thought he was cute in the game show skit. And as mellow Jason Mraz. The Andy Samberg music skit was hilarious too.

Did anyone else feel he was little….odd during the opening? Maybe it was just the excitement/nerves, but I felt as if he was a little spastic…..i LOVED the mellow show and thought it was great Dave Matthews came out as a charcater (esp when they were making fun of him). JGL also did a pretty good jason mraz impression! Hemp necklace!

It wasn’t one of my favorite episodes but it was pretty good. My favorite skits were the Palin 2012 movie trailer, the Obama skit, and What Up With That. I also liked the Weekend Update and thought Al Gore was especially funny.

OMG. I LOVE the “Whats up with that” skits. You have to check out the white guy (in the red and white track suit ) doing all of the old school dances in the back. This mess is hilarious. lol

Was the Debbie Downer sketch video from the past or did Rachael Dratch (sp?) make a guest appearance?
I am no Lindsey Lohan fan, but one of the times she hosted, they id a Debbie Downer sketch at Disneyland that was one of the funniest things I have ever seen- almost everyone broke character because they were cracking up. Anyone else remember it?

To me – it’s scarry how much he looks like Heath Ledger.

I thought it was a pretty solid episode. JGL’s opener was pretty cool – those flips were awesome! – and he was so endearingly enthusiastic throughout. I absolutely agree that they should have used him more. The guy is a very talented actor, has natural comic timing, and was clearly not afraid to try anything and commit to it 100% – why not take more advantage of that?
LOVED The Mellow Show sketch. JGL was really, really good as Jason Mraz, and Dave Matthews was spot on as Ozzie. It was hilarious when he made fun of himself.

The mellow show was the best by far. It was so hilarious. He was great as Mraz! Vegan cookies!

Wow, that opening monologue was amazing. He’s a great performer.

Big fan of JGL. But didn’t the slapping/punching in the opener bother anyone else? Was it funny because it was increasing in intensity or just random? Because he was bugging Bobby with his frantic singing & dancing? I must be getting to old for SNL (actually I found MadTV 10x more funny). If Bobby had goosed him in the ass after he said “pinch me or somethin”, it would have been funnier & more unexpected. I wonder of if in other industrialized countries or western europe, hitting him in the face repeatedly would be thought hilarious.

they definitely didn’t utilize his talent enough! SNL just ain’t what it used to be. they seriously need new writers…the repetitive type comedy just isn’t funny and drives me crazy (i can’t watch family guy..cuz that’s basically all it is anymore) but JGL really did well in all his parts, and dave mathews did an awesome ozzie impression! he sounded just like him.

Those photos are poster-worthy. He is so dreamy. :D
