John Mayer Does ‘Details’ Magazine

"I want to reach as many people as possible … I don’t mind compromising."
November 24th, 2009

For those of you who have been able to wrestle yourselves away from those photos of Taylor Lautner on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine, I thought you might like to know that John Mayer is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine … here is his coverphoto:

John talks candidly to Details about his famous ex-girlfriends, his reputation as a womanizer and what he thinks about all those people that hate him. Here are a couple of quotes from his Details coverstory interview:

On creating pop music: “I don’t know if you know, but I’m not exactly Bob Dylan – I’m already a pop musician…I want to reach as many people as possible…I don’t mind compromising.”

On people hating him: “What if I had a booth on the street and I said, ‘Attention everybody who hates me: If you have a problem with me, I’m ready to hear your gripes! I will be outside the Barneys store on 60th Street from two to four this afternoon…I will only be speaking to people who not like me. Come out and let me have it.’ How many people do you think would be standing there?…Ze-ro.”

Hahahahaha … he’s prolly right about that booth on the street thing but I’d still LOVE if would give it a try. John Mayer is who he is and he is very unapologetic about that. Love him or hate him, he’s a pretty straight shooter … you gotta admire him for that. After the jump, check out a couple of photos of John in the pages of this new issue of Details magazine which you may love OR hate …

Okay, so he’s no Taylor Lautner … but he is a fully grown adult man (so he’s got that going for him) and I know there are quite a few folks out there who find Mr. Mayer tickles their fancy (particularly Jennifer Aniston) … so these photos have to be doing something of some of y’all, right?

  10. random00b Says:

I’m trying to see why he’s considered hot, but it’s not there for me. Similar to Chris Pine. Oh well, one gal’s meat is another gal’s poison. *shrugs*

  11. andi Says:

even if he weren’t a man I would have a problem with him being a “player”. I’m the type of girl who likes someone I can trust, not someone that I am always questioning if what they are saying is the truth or if it is a mind game, whether they were really working late or if they were cheating….he seems sleazy, slimy, and deceitful to me, lol…

  12. krissy Says:

I think that if he really did have that “hater” booth, there would be a ton of people to show up. People love to hate now, where has he been? ;)

  13. Mela Says:

I am an adoring fan of JM. I love his witty blog, his funny twitter, and hit crazy cruise ship antics. Most of all, I love that while a ton of pop artists are clubbing and producing perfumes and endorsing the hell out of crappy products and selling excess, John’s in his living room with a guitar trying to figure out how to make fresh, new music with smart lyrics.

The only thing that bothers me about JM is his fame-whoring. I HATE that he put Taylor Swift on his album because I really thought that there would be so many other artists who would do a much better job of that song…namely Colbie Callait. It feels like a sales move and that doesn’t sit well with me.

  14. Mela Says:

Oh no…I ranted. My bad! What I meant to say was…

    Damn those pictures are fine!

  15. CHASE Says:

He’s kind of a douchebag so that takes away hit potential hotness.

  16. All Women Stalker Says:

I am drawn to his tats. I prefer guys in shirts with sleeves, though.

    -meream

  17. Myriam Says:

  18. Gaby Says:

Before I would look at John Mayer and be like UM NO! Now, he is looking …mmmmmm

  19. Kendra Says:

*sigh* I love his arms..I wish he brought a little more personality into his pics, though..He’s one funny mother effer! I’m not a HUGE fan of his voice, but there’s no denying he’s a beast on the guitar..

  20. Morgan Says:

When did john get a sleeve? LAME!

  21. Bruce Says:

I love John Mayer!! He is the man!!

  22. erin Says:

I’ve never met the guy and I don’t believe everything I read on the Internet or hear on Access Hollywood, so I have no definitive opinion on John Mayer as a person. I’ll say this for him though, whether you like his music or not (I do), the guy is a talented guitar player and he worked hard to earn his success. I admire that. Plus, there’s something about him that still makes him seem like the guy you maybe sat next to in history class junior year of high school. It’s quite an endearing quality. I don’t love the sleeve, but it’s his arm.

BTW – his new CD is really good. I’m loving “Perfectly Lonely.” Really sums up what it’s like to be single by choice. He usually has at least one song on each of his albums where I listen to it and think “Yes–that’s exactly how I feel/think/etc. about that!” It’s one of the reasons I enjoy his music. That and the way the guitar has a voice of its own.

  23. sarahliciousisdelicious Says:

I would not throw him outta my bed :)

  24. Michele Says:

    Hes definitely yummy

  25. la princesa Says:

LOVE these! LOVE LOVE LOVE! I don’t understand why people would hate him. He isn’t Speidi. Not even close. I love him. How he has a label as being a womanizer is beyond me! He had 2 high profile romances with 2 women who always have the public’s sympathy & can’t maintain relationships anyhow…I agree with erin, though, John is one HELL of a talented guy.
I can’t recommend his Battle Studies cd enough! “Edge of Desire” alone is worth it, but when you add in “Perfectly Lonely,” “War of my Life,” “Assassin,” “Half of my Heart,” “Friends, Lovers or Nothing” & “Heartbreak Warfare” then you have the #1 album in the country.

  26. Liv Says:

Straight shooter? More like, straight douchebag!

  27. b Says:

holy crap. get that man in my bed now. :)

  28. CitizenX Says:

I am not sure what did it. Perhaps it was Rosie Radio on Sirius that allowed me to accept the fact that he is lyrically sound.
I have acquired all 5. All new to me.
Finally accepting his brilliance into my life.
    .. never been happier

(and the sleeve is gorgeous. never knew!)

  29. Stephanie Says:

JOOOHHHHNNNN MAYYYYEEEEER WHEN WILL YOU REALIZE WE ARE IN LOVE?

  30. Ally Says:

Apparently he picked up some tips from Jessica Simpson — How to come off sexy by taking a picture with your mouth slightly open :-P.

J/k. Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that he is a talented singer and songwriter.

  31. gokarm Says:

I’ve been a minor fan of Mr. John Mayer since his first hit and I said to myself and everyone around me “This boy is gonna be around for awhile.” Him and Jason Mraz, actually, same general time period. Also, I love that his hotness is a surprise, like…his looks ACTUALLY come second in his career and I think in his life. That’s a man I can respect and its no wonder so many people love and hate him. He’s extraordinary.

  32. DJWhoop Says:

Love him. Been a big fan since Room for Squares came out. He is a superior guitarist and songwriter. And he’s got a great sense of humor. I saw him on some “punk’d” type show where he was in an ice cream parlor or something and was hiding behind a tree with his guitar. He proceeded to jump out and start whaling on the guitar to the shock of everyone in the place. It was hilarious.
His rep proceeds him – so women should know what they are getting into when they date him. He’s so daggone fine, I assume that part of him get’s overlooked.
    @Stephanie – that’s funny!
