James Franco Is The Newest Castmember On ‘General Hospital’
In early October we learned the somewhat surprising news that James Franco would be joining the cast of General Hospital and today we get our first look at the actor in his new role as soap star. ABC released a promo pic of Franco on GH … and here it is:
You guys, we’ve been waiting on pins and needles for this moment, and now we have it: the first images of James Franco in his much talked-about performance on General Hospital. Still no word on who James will be playing (beyond that it has something to do with Jason), but feel free to speculate away based on the image. And don’t forget: James’s first air date is Friday, November 20th! What do you think of this first shot? What’s this character all about? What’s with the all-black ensemble? Does that have something to do with Jason too? Start speculating!
Now, I don’t watch General Hospital at all … not since my college roommate used to make me watch it with her. I’m a total Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful fan (tho B&B is really trying my patience these days) so I have NO idea what is going on on GH. I still don’t know what James Franco is doing on a soap opera but it’s deffo a boon for the show. Folks who don’t watch the show but love Franco are more likely to tune in and get hooked. I won’t be one of those new viewers (I already watch way too much TV) but, again, it’s a big score for General Hospital. Do any of y’all watch the show … are you excited that James is joining the cast?

as a loooong time GH watcher. I am stoked. they’ll do whatever they can for November Sweeps. I am anxiously awaiting the reveal of his character. I could assume he has something to do with Dante’s (Sonny’s son) old neighborhood based on the grafitti scenes they’ve shown. But as far as a connection to Jason, i am baffled. Maybe a relative of someone Jason whacked? i don’t know but…. i’d bet he got a damn good paycheck for however long he’s gonna grace Port Charles with his presence!

trent…. i am about to start watching the bold and the beautiful. they stole sarah joy brown from gh and she is one of my fave all-time actresses. she’ll be joining b&b on nov 6th i believe. you’ll be blown away by her. she is just amazing!

First, I wish people wouldn’t have such a negative perspective of soap acting. Yes, it can be melodramatic, but it’s not as easy as one might think. If you’re one of the top dogs, you might be on 3 or 4 days a week, every week of the year. That’s a lot of acting, and it’s definitely a skill.
Besides that, I’m a GH fan, so I’m excited to see how he fits into the show. I think you should tune in Trent. I could see you really liking some of the characters :).

Love soaps. Love GH [which has gotten exponentially better these past few months] and I’m really excited about the drama JF’s character is going to bring to the canvas.

I stopped watching soaps altogether a few years ago but I used to watch GH faithfully. I LOVE LOVE LOVE James Franco though so maybe I’ll tune in on Friday November 20th to check him out. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about GH since Jonathan Jackson played Lucky Spencer. LOL!

I’m PUMPED for James Franco! All of us in the GH world are excited and buzzed for it! James and Steve Burton in the same scene together…be still my heart!

They have already started hinting at his arrival with a few scenes of shadowy figures. Sooooooo excited! And with the “real” Lucky back, GH is just getting better and better….. my daytime escape from reality.

Im SO stoked. I watch GH everyday, religiously xD Now we have JJ back, a very sexy Dominic, this is just the icing on the cake.
A lot of stars used to go on soaps for the fun of it. Elizabeth Taylor did a stint on GH back in the day.

jonathan jackson is back… AS LUCKY!!!! he came back last week!!!! you’ve gotta come see him he looks so the same but soooo different, i kinda feel weird saying it but he looks kinda hot! i still remember him as the young lucky and saying that creeps me out a bit but. he has grown up, i guess so it is ok!

I have never watched a soap opera, but maybe I will start now. James Franco is my secret boyfriend. ;-) I watched the Spiderman movies just for him being in them. Don’t like the picture though. He looks almost like John Mayer who is one of the least attractive people ever.

Well he is taking classes at Columbia right? Maybe he wanted to do something that still allowed him to act, but wasn’t as demanding and gave him flexibility with his schedule.

I heard he is doing it just to “try it all”, and stretch himself as an actor. Soaps are REALLY challenging. Not just because the scripts are so dang awful, but it is a lot of pages with very quick shooting style. Gotta have a quick memory (or tape scripts to furniture). I think this is such a noble thing for him to do. Doin’ it for the craft, baby!

When the announcement was made, they indicated that it was a short-term gig to research a movie role. Kinda figures. I love soaps, but I can’t I imagine Franco giving up movies to be a soap star. I’m excited to see him on GH. A part of me is hoping he’ll be a suddenly not dead AJ. Steve Burton and he would knock it out of the park.

Maybe just me but I hope he plays a hot new love interest for Maxie. I know I know.. her and Spinelli are cute together but I like them better as friends.

OMG I CANNOT WAIT. General Hospital and The Young and the Restless are my two favs and I’m totally stoked how good both shows are getting. Trent, definitely check out GH. It’s sooooo good and I’m sooooo excited to see James Franco be all soapy. And remember my fellow Pinklings, he isn’t doing it permanently, he’s doing it for the experience. Because knock on it all you want, being on a soap gives you greeeeeat acting experience. They air a show essentially every day of the year and they can’t take time re-doing scenes. It’s quick, which means YOU have to be quick and learn fast. I’m interested to read interviews with him about his experience. Even though he’s a Golden Globe winner, I bet he’ll take a lot away from this and use what he learns in the future. (did we ever figure out why exactly he’s doing it? Was it for a class?)
