After ABC reportedly received over 1,500 complaints over Adam Lambert‘s “shocking” performance on the 2009 American Music Awards on Sunday night, Good Morning America has decided to cancel his scheduled appearance and performance on their show tomorrow morning. It looks like Glambert ended up alienating more people than he did entertaining them:

The people who didn’t like Adam Lambert’s “American Music Awards” performance won’t have to worry about a repeat performance on “Good Morning America” — cause that gig is canceled. Leading a guy around on a leash and kissing another was apparently too much for ABC. A rep for the show told TV Newser, “Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.” Ironically enough, Lambert announced he was gay on “20/20″ earlier this year — which airs on ABC.
While this controversy may not be great for his image (or for record sales) it’s not the end of the world for him … yet. My guess is another show on a competing network will snap him up for an appearance just so they can ask him about the controversy (perhaps to cast ABC in a negative light). BUT … if Glambert keeps up this need to create controversy just for the sake of generating buzz, I fear his music career has nowhere to go but down. You don’t really hear anyone talking about his debut album For Your Entertainment which was released for sale yesterday … all people are talking about is his “shocking” AMAs performance. I wasn’t shocked or entertained by his performance … but I am not his target audience. If he wants to have a career he’s gonna hafta play nice with folks eventually … I guess we’ll have to see if he’s up for the task.

1500 calls is really not that much considering the millions of people who watched the show live, and the number of people who watched it on Youtube afterwards. I didn’t follow American Idol, but I did see a couple of his performances from that show on Youtube, and thought that he has talent. However, I didn’t like his AMA performance at all…not because of the sexuality (hello, crotches have been grabbed for decades now on TV!), but because of his awful singing. He seemed too focused on the maze he was walking through, and not on what was coming out of his mouth. Way screechy.
it’s not fair, end of story. regardless of how you feel about his singing or whatever over-the-top antics he does, a female entertainer would’ve gotten away with it. how many times has britney simulated oral sex by putting a man’s face in her crotch? lady gaga simulates masturbation in her new video and that’s not edited out. i’m no fan of this boy, but i know when something isn’t right. hopefully he learns to tone it down when the situation calls for it, though.
I just want to thank you for not being all gung ho about his performance and GMA canceling his performance just because you are a homosexual male as well unlike some other celeb blog we all know about.
Truth be told, it isn’t the kiss it’s the oral sex that was disgusting. However, I would think it was disgusting even if it were two females or a male and a female. There’s a time and place for that and a music award is not one of them.
It isn’t about anyone being homophobic but that the decision he made was a horribly bad one that just was uncalled for. No double standards. If he wants to do oral sex simulations on stage perhaps he should go into the porn business.
I just complained to ABC for pulling him. SO THERE! lol.
He has great vocals usually. If his voice isn’t your cup of tea, so be it. I can’t stand Beyonce and most of what passes for talent these days. I like him because he has the possibility to be something a little different. His new records is under the umbrella of AI, correct? They have a lot of influence on that album I think.
@Bren – How is he different? Like I said in my previous post, he’s basically a Bowie-wannabe! He’s borrowing a page from Madonna’s playbook, but employing it badly! He is recycling schticks from other artists, turning up the vulgarity and turning down the talent, and trying to pass it off as fresh and edgy.
I have been of fan of Lambert’s since AI’s top 36 show. He does have that special “something.” However , that AMA spectacle was nothing short of a trainwreck. How can he blame the Nokia Theatre when Kelly Clarkson was spot on with her vocals? I agree with the others who said that for a debut, he attempted too much too soon. The boy possess great talent, but he’s going about it all wrong. I fear he’s up to minute 14.
