Gerard Butler pulled a little prank in Berlin, Germany this week in what appears to be an homage to the late Michael Jackson. As you can see from the photos below, Butler wrapped up a potted plant in a hotel towel to make it look like a baby which he, then, dangled outside his hotel window above the street below … just like MJ did with his own son Prince Michael Joseph, II aka Blanket in his own hotel in Berlin many years ago:

Gerard Butler paid tribute to Michael Jackson yesterday by dangling a fake baby out the window of his London hotel room. Aw, remember when M.J. did that with a real baby in Berlin? Memories… Anyway, Gerry’s fake baby is actually a plant wrapped in a towel, and he looks a little too pleased with himself. You can just tell he’s high-fiving himself in his head for coming up with such an epically funny stunt that’s actually pretty lame. And that is what we find amusing.
Yeah … I dunno if Gerard was going for funny or if he was just lookin’ for attention but it seems so odd that he would do this. I, personally, think the joke would’ve been funnier if it had been executed while MJ was still alive … cuz, let’s be honest, MJ‘s decision to dangle his baby outside a hotel window was NOT one of the high points of his career. But now that MJ is gone, well, I don’t think the joke is funny anymore. That is not to say that I am offended by this little gag … it’s just … weird. What to y’all think … funny?

I’ve been to Berlin and the hotel that MJ did this is right by the Brandenburg Gate and when having a talk with someone who works in the art museum right next to it mentioned that it was the hotel where MJ hung Blanket out the window we all were star struck. If Gerard happened to be in the same hotel (which is also the most expensive hotel in Berlin) then I’m sure he couldn’t help himself, I probably would be fighting that inner urge to do it to.
I’m not offended, but I’m not laughing either… I think you’re right, Trent, “weird” describes this pretty well. Or “dumb” or “stupid” or “lame”…
Not offended either but definitely in poor taste.
How come when MJ was alive, people called him weird and creepy, but as soon as he died, he was immediately pardoned, so to speak, of all his sins and treated like a god or a saint? i like his music, but he was still a weird guy. just because he is dead, that doesnt change anything about how he lived his life and the decisions he made when he was alive
@Lisa — I know that I, for one, have not “pardoned” MJ’s previous actions. They were strange … these pics of Gerard pulling an MJ just prove that fact.
Meh I’m not offended, but yeah I’m not laughing either, it’s just kinda “ooooooook why?”
Agreed, I’m not offended but poking fun at someone not to long after they’ve DIED definitely is a little tacky!
Haha I’m definitely laughing. It’s so random and he’s so psyched about it. I love it hahaha
O.K. He was great in Phantom of the Opera. He looked AWSOME in 300. But anytime you see this guy do live interviews he is 1 sandwich short of a picnic. This stunt just goes with his “offness”. Am I offended? No. But it does make me esteem him just a little bit less.
I’m not offended but it’s definitely in bad taste.
I think the timing is not right. But whatever.
Pretty sure I only giggled because Gerard is just so damn cute. I mean look at his face haha.
Since when can we not make fun of dead celebrities??? Michael Jackson was a fantastic performer but let’s not get carried away. He is just a subject to ribbing in death as he was living. It was his actions that created the persona that we all knew in the latter half of his life. He alone is responsible for his actions and what comes from them. In this case its Gerard Butler coming at him and quite frankly I’m not entirely sure Michael would have had much of a problem with Gerard Butler coming at him. ;)
@nancy – “one sandwich short of a picnic” is the funniest thing i have heard in a long time! i’m not quite sure i understand it other than that it’s not a complement! sort of like “dumb as a rock” or “dumb as a wedge of cheese”….thanks for the giggle!
Yeah. It’s weird and dorkily funny and totally tasteless all at the same time. It just makes me think that Gerard Butler is a big dork. Like the caption described it, it’s funny but mostly funny because he seems so tickled by it.
I think what’s funny here is actually his facial expression. While it’s not humorous in any way, you can’t help by smile at how much fun he’s actually having and how happy he is doing it.
@DJVegad – I think the tackiness is due to the fact that it’s too soon – MJ only died a few months ago. Making fun of dead celebrities a few months after they died is just corny and pointless. If this was Nov. 2010, I doubt anyone would really think much of it.
@Shannon – I agree. He is too cute and seems to be having fun making fun of a stupid act.
meh, i laughed.
@Lisa—THANK YOU! Finally someone said it!
it’s funny :P
