‘Eastwick’ Is Dunzo!
Peace the Spork Out

Sad news for fans of the ABC series Eastwick, it was announced late yesterday that the new series (which is based on the 1987 film The Witches of Eastwick) has been canceled! Apparently the show hasn’t be doing very well in the ratings so ABC decided to cut its losses and burn the show at the stake, if you will. I, for one, am very bummed about this … I’ve been a fan of the show since it debuted this season and have been happily watching the eps on a weekly basis :( But, alas, I guess it was all for naught … cuz I now have to give a hearty, but sad, Peace the Spork Out to Eastwick:

ABC has opted not to order additional episodes of “Eastwick,” its rookie supernatural comedy-drama starring Rebecca Romijn. “Eastwick,” a fresh take on the hit 1987 movie “The Witches of Eastwick,” will finish production on 13 episodes; ABC plans to run them all. ABC is also yanking its reality show “Let’s Dance,” which was supposed to premiere on November 23 with Kathy Griffin hosting. Sources said ABC had difficulty casting the series, which is a common problem for networks when developing celebrity-driven reality fare, though usually such projects don’t get so far in the process as to have a premiere date. In its place, ABC intends to air “Find My Family,” in which people get to meet long-lost families or loved ones. The network has six episodes planned. It has also picked up five more episodes of its Tuesday crime drama “The Forgotten,” starring Christian Slater.

I suppose we fans of the series should be somewhat relieved that ABC still plans to finish production of the initial 13 episodes and promises to air them … many shows that get canceled in this manner just disappear immediately and you’re lucky if the unaired eps show up on DVD at some point down the line. Again, I must stress how upset I am that the show is being canceled … folks are saying that Rebecca Romijn is cursed (it is said she is not capable of carrying a successful TV show … do you remember Pepper Dennis? Yeah, didn’t think so), or mebbe it’s Lindsay Price who is cursed (her Lipstick Jungle also got canceled early). Whatever the case may be, I’m gonna miss the show … I don’t know if there is any chance of saving it from cancellation but my gut tells me that there will not be an outpouring of anger over the axing of this series. Boo.

Wasn’t Lindsay Price also on the failed american version of Coupling? I loved the Brit version, but was glad when the american one was cancelled – it was pretty bad.

Ugh that upsets me! I really enjoyed this show! Atleast they’re completing the first season! I liked Lipstick Jungle as well.

G – I had no idea Samantha Who? was cancelled!

Well… don’t come here and bitch about it. DO SOMETHING! Start an online petition to keep it going, send emails to NBC, etc. – let them know there are fans around who don’t want the show canceled. It happened re: “Jericho” (sending bags upon bags of peanuts to the network to keep it going) & a few other shows. Try it.

Unless there’s some reaction over a show being canceled… no network in their right mind is gonna put effort into keeping a show on the air… or peek the interest of another network to pick it up. Better yet – I wish the NBC would go back to one of the PREVIOUS shows canceled & run the episodes again (for example: “Pushing Daisies”) instead of wasting money producing so-called *new* crap like the above mentioned replacement show, “Find My Family” – lame & voyeuristic enough to perhaps find an audience.

That’s one show, I myself, WON’T be tuning in to see. Thank God for cable! There’s more chance of those shows staying on the air. Like “MYTHBUSTERS” (for example) which I doubt would have lasted as long as it has if had aired on ABC, CBS, etc.

I’m also aggravated about this. I couldn’t even find last week’s episode online. All videos were yanked from hulu.com and not offered on ABC’s website. Dislike!

Wow. I love Eastwick. This is so lame. First Fox cancells the super awesome Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and now ABC cancels Eastwick. Totally heartbroken. I’m sick of typical crime/law/hospital type shows. I want my paranormal shows back!!! I’m already mad Smallville was moved to Friday. That better not get cancelled or I don’t know what I will do.

Bummer! I really loved this show. I hate when they do this. They never give anything a chance and it’s always the shows I love.

  10. Snorri says:

  11. Holly says:

  12. Neil says:

this show is amazing and cleverly written. Bring back Eastwick and MOONLIGHT damnit!!!!

  13. ezzyc says:

i agree with most of the sentiment expressed here.. Eastwick is AWESOME. i’m pouring out my anger right now. it’s such a refreshing show after the onslaught of crime-series that just. won’t. die! I mean, I love CSI and Numbers and all but then there are shows like Without a Trace and Life and Criminal Intent which are basically the same thing over and over again! Bleah

  14. B says:

I was enjoying it too. It was lying-on-the-couch-with-a-quilt-and-a-cold-Poptart fun. *sigh*
