Double Feature, Double Fun
The TV Guide

So … I spent much of yesterday on the couch watching sappy movies, just minding my own business, having the time of my life. When I realized that I was bawling my eyes out to Mr. Holland’s Opus, I knew it was time to get out of the house. Incidentally, and to digress for a moment, Mr. Holland’s Opus was one of the movies that was playing in theaters when I worked at the AMC Theater in Oklahoma City when I was in collage (along with Fargo, Richard III and others). I had seen the beginning and end of that movie a million times during it’s run (AMC ushers used to walk into theaters when the movies started to make sure everything was OK) but it wasn’t until years after graduation that I saw the movie in full … and first bawled my eyes out. When Mr. Holland sings Beautiful Boy to his deaf son, I lose it every time:

But anyways … tired of crying, I got out of the house and did some putzing around, grabbed some food and then came home to watch another movie … one of my faves, Josie and the Pussycats:

Not only is this one of Parker Posey‘s BEST films ever but the soundtrack kicks all ass cuz Kay Hanley (from Letters to Cleo) provides the singing voice on all the songs. I hadn’t seen the movie in ages … it was a great way to end the day.

Well … then I caught Karate Kid, Part II on cable … but after watching only about a half hour of it, I had to go to bed.

Today I’m really getting out of the house … I have some errands to run and will prolly be meeting up with a friend for dinner … unless I catch some good movies on TV ;)

I’m with you Trent – being a huge John Lennon fan I also lose it when he sings Beautiful Boy to his son. Excellent movie moment.

Aw! I always forget that you went to OU. Did you work at the AMC at Crossroads?

I love Mr. Holland’s Opus so much. It’s so underrated and so excellent.

It’s in my sappiest movie and worst political crap category. Poor, poor Mr. Holland. Dreyfuss, one of the biggest libtards in hollywood must have had a ball playing this pathetic character. The homage to John Lennon was just too awful. He had to be one of the worst examples of a father to ever write a song about his neglected son and how about the children from his first marriage that he abandoned. You people are silly and uneducated. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
