Candace Bushnell Plans To Release ‘The Carrie Diaries’
Fans of Sex and the City have new reason to celebrate today … People magazine brings us our first look at the book cover for the new Candace Bushnell SaTC prequel titled The Carrie Diaries which introduces us to the Carrie Bradshaw character before she was all sexy in the city:

Sex and the City 2 may not be scheduled to hit theaters until May 28, 2010 – but for fans clamoring for anything new and Sex-related, there’s good news ahead: Candace Bushnell is releasing the new book The Carrie Diaries, a teen prequel to her famous franchise. Set during Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years, the book details the budding fashionista’s early relationships and how she began her career as a writer. According to the publisher, The Carrie Diaries will also focus on Bradshaw’s first love, while the cover art specifically references an incident between the character and her mother. The Carrie Diaries will be published on April 27, 2010.
HMMM … it’s unclear if this book is aimed at adult fans of Sex and the City or new, young fans who are unfamiliar with the SaTC book and/or TV series. I hope the book is written in such a way that adult fans of the original can enjoy the story … and I can’t help but feel it’s weird to aim a book like this at kids. In any event, anything from Candace Bushnell is welcome to me and I am really looking forward to reading this book when it is released next year. I like how the cover has a Louis Vuitton/Stephen Sprouse feel to it … I wonder how LV feels about the homage? Are any of y’all lookin’ forward to the release of this book?

I liked the book but the Carrie character is much different (less likeable) than the way SJP plays her. Should be interesting to see how she got her start!

I think they are aimed at older teens, like the Gossip Girl books.

Nope, won’t be reading this book. I didn’t like the original SatC book either. I prefer to think it started and ended with the TV series. I liked the first movie, but really don’t think a second one is warranted. And of course there’ll be a third movie as MPK said there would be 3 movies in the franchise. Like most old die-hard fans, I don’t want or need to know how the girls met. Nor do I want to know about their parents/siblings. It takes away the whole premise that the girls were each other’s family.

I agree with debho. This WHOLE time we have been watching the show there is no mention to the girls families (minus when miranda’s mothers dies). We have watched the show assuming that these girls are eachother’s familes so there is no need for the background info.

I think it could be funny!
Just because families weren’t mentioned in the show doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. EVERYBODY has a family and a past! Carrie didn’t wake up hung over in her Manolo Blahniks one morning.

Why did they have to get all pissy and quit the series in the first place… WHY!
