Tiger Woods Will Not Be Competing For The Rest Of The Year

As was expected by pretty much everyone on planet Earth considering all the drama stemming from his car crash incident last Friday morning, Tiger Woods has pulled out of competing in the Chevron World Challenge which takes place here in SoCal this week. Furthermore, Tiger has also announced that he will NOT be competing in any tournaments for the rest of the year:


Tiger Woods will not play in the Chevron World Challenge golf tournament this week. The reason for Tiger’s no show — car crash injuries. On Tiger’s own website, he released a statement saying, “I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week … I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I’m very sorry that I can’t be there.” The site also says Tiger will not compete in any more events this year. The tourney says they are trying to find someone to take Tiger’s spot and that it would be one of the top 50 players in the world. As for refunds, the tourney’s site says tickets will be refunded at face value beginning next week.

Oh yeah, it really sounds like homie is hopin’ to hide out for as long as he can so that he won’t be forced to answer any questions about his incident. It remains to be seen how far the police are willing to go to find out if his accident grew out of a domestic altercation with his wife but it looks like Tiger Woods is going to make it as difficult as possible for anyone to ask anything of him.

Serena Williams Gets Fined $175,000 For Yelling At A Line Judge

Dang … The Grand Slam Committee that oversees the world’s Tennis Grand Slam tournaments really takes charges of unsportsmanlike conduct seriously. You may recall that Serena Williams blew up at a line judge back in September during a US Open match against Kim Clijsters when she threatened said judge by allegedly yelling, I’m gonna kill you! I swear to God, I’m fucking taking this ball and I’m shoving it down your fucking throat (click HERE for video). Well, her punishment for that incident has finally been handed down … to the tune of $175,000! Wow!


Serena Williams, the top-ranked player in women’s tennis, will pay a price for her threatening, profanity-laced tirade against a lineswoman in the semifinals of the United States Open. The Grand Slam committee fined Williams $175,000 in a decision announced Monday, but decided against suspending her from next year’s Open or any other Grand Slam event. Instead, the committee followed the recommendation of its administrator and lead investigator, Bill Babcock, and adopted a middle path by heavily fining her and placing her on two years’ probation. If she commits another major offense in the next two seasons at one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, she will be automatically suspended from the subsequent United States Open. In addition, if she does not commit another major offense in the next two years, she will have her fine reduced to $82,500. Even at that level, it would be the largest fine levied against a player for misbehavior at a Grand Slam: far more than the roughly $30,000 that the American Jeff Tarango was ultimately fined for walking off the court at Wimbledon in 1995 after an argument with the French chair umpire Bruno Rebeuh. Tarango’s wife, Benedicte, later slapped Rebeuh in the face. Tarango was suspended from Wimbledon in 1996. Williams declined an interview request through her management team but issued a statement. “I am thankful that we now have closure on the incident, and we can all move forward,” her statement read. “I am back in training in preparation for next season, and I continue to be grateful for all of the support from my fans and the tennis community” … Williams can appeal within 10 days of the ruling, which was rendered Saturday. But an appeal is unlikely because her statement emphasized closure and she could have been given a much harsher penalty, including a suspension and the loss of her prize money from the Open. Williams lost her singles semifinal to Kim Clijsters, earning $350,000, then won the women’s doubles with her sister Venus Williams, sharing $420,000. In 2009, Serena Williams set a single-season record by earning $6,545,586 in prize money. Serena Williams lost her temper Sept. 12 while serving to stay in the match against Clijsters. Trailing, 4-6, 5-6 and 15-30, she was called for a foot fault after a second serve, which gave the point to Clijsters and brought up match point. Williams, upset at the timing of the foot-fault call, turned toward the lineswoman who had made the call and, using profanity, threatened to stuff a tennis ball down her throat. Williams, who had received an official warning for smashing a racket earlier in the match, was eventually given a point penalty on court by the tournament referee Brian Earley. With Williams facing match point, the decision gave Clijsters the victory. Williams, initially unapologetic and evasive, incrementally amplified her apology over the next two days. She was fined the maximum $10,000 during the tournament but was permitted to play in the doubles final the next day. That $10,000 fine will be deducted from the total announced Monday.

Dang … talk about paying the price for losing one’s temper. I guess Williams really did need to be punished for this infraction but $175k seems like a tough lesson to swallow. In the end, tho, athletes are regular people prone to losing their temper just like everyone else. I suspect that other pro athletes might think twice before blowing up at officials like this in the future … but, to be honest, it’s hard to stay rational in the heat of the moment. I hope Serena will learn to keep her cool tho … paying out this much money in fines is just stupid.

Jude Law & Sienna Miller’s Quiet Thanksgiving Together

Well, well now … what have we here? Star magazine is reporting that former lovers Jude Law and Sienna Miller, who are both living in NYC these days since they are both starring in Broadway shows, spent a quiet Thanksgiving together all alone. It sounds like Jude was not interested in sharing his Thanksgiving with either his babymama Samantha Burke & newborn daughter Sophia or the co-eds at New York University so he decided not to stay home and meet up with Sienna instead … HMMMM. Here are the deets as reported by Star:


Turkey wasn’t on the menu for Jude Law and Sienna Miller during their dinner date on Thanksgiving — but pizza and PDA were! The Brits, who are both living in Manhattan while appearing in roles on Broadway, celebrated the American holiday together at the Italian restaurant Emporio in the Nolita section of New York City. Arriving just after midnight on Thursday, Jude and Sienna — who are starring in Hamlet and After Miss Julie, respectively — took a table, where they ordered pizza — and a $350 bottle of wine. “They were offered a private table in the back, but Jude and Sienna turned it down,” an insider tells Star. “They had no problem flaunting their love right in the middle of the restaurant. They definitely looked like they were head-over-heels for each other.” Although their reps denied recent reports that they’d reconciled, the couple — who broke off their engagement in 2006 following his cheating scandal with his kids’ nanny — didn’t skimp on public displays of affection. “They came in holding hands and kept touching each other and kissing throughout the entire meal,” says the insider. “They only had eyes for each other!” Jude picked up the check — leaving $100 tip — and they left together in the same car.

Now, I suppose it’s entirely possible that Jude and Sienna were just hangin’ out as BFFs but considering Jude‘s reputation as a Lothario and Sienna‘s penchant for romancin’ celebs … well, it’s not a far stretch to imagine that these two would want to be hookin’ up again for a little somethin’ somethin’. I always thought these two made a great couple and thought it was shame that they broke up (reportedly due to Jude’s cheating on her with a nanny). I guess we’ll see if anything comes from this report. What do y’all think … are they together again?

Neve Campbell Talks To ‘Blackbook Magazine’ About ‘Scream 4’

BlackBook magazine has posted a new interview online with Neve Campbell wherein she talks at some length about the much-anticipated upcoming sequel film Scream 4 as well as her other work (Party of Five and, yes, the very LOL-worthy Wild Things). As you may recall, that we learned back in July that Courteney and David Arquette signed on to appear in Scream 4 and then in September we learned that Neve Campbell, THE Scream star, finally agreed to sign on for the film as well. Now she’s talkin’ about the upcoming film … and more:


Ontario-born actress Neve Campbell first found fame on Fox’s Party of Five before perfecting her little “girl lost in horror, blood and gore act” in The Craft, playing a teen witch even though she was in her early 20s at the time. Looking perennially younger than she actually is, Neve moved on to even greater fame amongst a new generation of slasher flick fans as Sidney Prescott in the Scream trilogy, the most successful psychological horror genre films of all time. Thrillingly, the four are due to reunite for Scream 4 which is scheduled to start filming in the spring. Campbell has lived, almost secretly, in London for the last five years with her actor husband John Light, a Brit. Indeed: these days the 36 year-old actress is such a fully paid-up Anglophile, even Madonna and Gwyneth would be impressed. Maybe even shown up.

You seem to be very settled living in London these days. Would you consider yourself an Anglophile?
Absolutely! I’ve lived in leafy Islington for five years now. I lived in LA for 13 years, but it just didn’t suit me. I’m from Toronto and I’m really used to a city I can walk around in, I guess. After I saw Crash, I realized: it’s true. People only really meet in LA when they get out of their cars. It’s a very isolating city. I have to be a little careful in London with the attention of the paparazzi. But on the whole, people are very respectful.

Do you ever feel drawn to horror films due to your legacy in them?
I’m very thankful for the Scream movies. They were fantastic for my career. Do I fear being pigeonholed for making this genre of movie? Not really. I’ve had a good ride, career-wise.

So you don’t think you are in any danger of becoming the next Jamie Lee Curtis of the shock-horror world?
Being the next Jamie would be fine! (laughs) In fact, we start shooting Scream 4 in mid-April. I’m so happy that those of us still “alive” from 1, 2 and 3 like David (Arquette) and Courtney (Cox) have already signed up to take part.

Did you all stay in touch after the trilogy had wrapped?
Oh, yes. Completely. I haven’t spoken to them in a while. I’m sure it took a while to convince them to take part [in the picture], especially because they’re now a very happy family ,and of course, it was a long journey for them. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and a lot like going back to summer camp.

What else can you tell us about Scream 4?
I’m pretty sure at this stage that Wes [Craven] is back on board to direct and Kevin [Willamson] is definitely writing it…so it is going to be great.

So you haven’t been sent a script yet, then?
No. Not yet. They had to wait for us all to sign on. I suppose that’s the way these days!

What’s the key to playing Sidney?
Physically speaking, it’s all about working the bob! And the only way I can achieve that properly every day on set is through Tara Smith hair products. Seriously, if Tara didn’t cut and style my hair in an amazing girly way to re-create the Sidney look, I wouldn’t have a starting point [for the character]. I’m not kidding. Hers are the only products I can use without killing my hair and skin, as they are 100% organic and free of chemicals.

You sound like a big fan!
Honestly, your readers should try them and get the Sidney bob to hold for when the film comes out next year! Once I’ve got the hairstyle, the character of Sidney definitely comes back to me.

Work-wise, what’s next for you before shooting Scream in the Spring?
Well, I’m always trying to find a great new scam to avoid the dark, damp British winters if I can! So, I’ve just signed up to do a movie in Sydney, Australia starting in December.

OK, so granted there still ain’t much (well, anything) to talk about as far as Scream 4 is concerned but the fact that we are hearing anything at all about the film is very exciting. I am SO excited for this new sequel film … which, I understand, may be the start of a whole new trilogy of films :) But, yes, Neve had other things to talk about with BlackBook … including the new film she’s about to start filming. The Week Of Sloth Comes To An End

And so … my Week of Sloth came to an end last night as I happily welcomed home my beloved David from his holiday visit back East. Yesterday afternoon, tho, I met up with my friend Tony for a nice brunch at Hugo’s … we were able to catch up and hang out. I spent much of the afternoon tidying up the apartment for David’s return … there was no need for him to see the remnants from the Week of Sloth.

I picked up David late last night and we spent a very nice night together … just the two of us … and a large pizza pie from Vito’s :)

I’m not sure what the plan is for today … I’m thinkin’ David and I will prolly do something low key … but the week ahead is a bit bizzy and looks to be fun. Bring it on!!

‘The Circus Starring Britney Spears’ Comes To A Close In Australia

Britney Spears has successfully completed her first-ever Australian tour by playing her last Aussie date in Adelaide on November 29 … which means that she has also successfully completed her world tour The Circus starring Britney Spears! I understand that our dear Britney completed 97 shows over 9 months … that is quite a feat. Here are a few photos from Britney‘s last performance of The Circus at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Aus:


What a great year Britney has had! She kicked off her tour in New Orleans, LA back in March and ended up touring the US twice along with many dates in Europe and Australia … well done!! I was fortunate enough to see the show 3 times (LA, Anaheim and Chicago) and I had a blast … as did, I’m sure, everyone else at the 94 other performances.

Kylie Minogue Is Back In NYC

Kylie Minogue seems to be in love with NYC these days … last month she was in town to celebrate Hallowe’en with some of her famous friends and, of course, earlier in the month she performed 3 sold out shows at the Hammerstein Ballroom to finish out her first-ever North American Tour For You, For Me. Well, Kylie is back in the Big Apple to record her new album (reportedly due out next year) and she has been tweeting about her progress:

Jaden Smith Is The New ‘Karate Kid’

Back in September we got our first look at the new version of The Karate Kid which stars Jaden Pinkett-Smith and Jackie Chan and today People magazine brings us the first promo photo from the new flick of the dynamic duo:


Learning the moves of a true martial arts fighter, Will Smith’s youngest son Jaden Smith is proving he has what it takes when he stars opposite Jackie Chan in a remake of the 1984 classic, The Karate Kid, due in theaters June 11. “I trained every day for four months with Master Wu [the film's fight coordinator],” Jaden, 11, tells PEOPLE as he takes on his first leading role as an American boy named Dre Parker who moves to China. “We did a lot of stretching.” Jaden mastered front kicks and upper blocks through his hard work ethic and dedication, says Chan, 55, who plays maintenance man Mr. Han – an unlikely friend to Jaden’s character. “He took the training very seriously. I was very impressed with him,” he adds. While filming in Beijing, including atop the Great Wall of China, Chan was more than a martial arts mentor to his young costar. “Jackie taught me to ask, ‘My left or camera left?’” says Jaden on learning the important directions of acting in front of the movie camera. “That helped.” As the two stars built a dynamic relationship on screen, the teacher and student bond translated into real life. “Jaden had a lot of respect for me as his teacher, even off the set,” says Chan. “He is professional as many adult actors who have been in the business for years.” And, as Jaden became a true karate kid, he realized that there is more to martial arts than just the kicking and punching – there are lasting lessons of obedience to be instilled. In fact Jaden’s parents appreciate the discipline he learned. “His dad told me that Jaden had changed,” says Chan. “When he takes his shoes off, he doesn’t throw them in the corner, but puts them away neatly!”

I dunno … as I mentioned in my last post on this new version of The Karate Kid, I’m not sure I’m at all interested in a remake of such a classic film. This new version is helped by the fact that it’s a completely new retelling of the story and seems to be only related to the original film in name only. I actually just rewatched the original Karate Kid, Part II and that movie sequel still holds up after all these years (the Part III and the subsequent The Next Karate Kid which starred Hilary Swank do not, IMHO, hold up all these years later). I suppose this new film can be great for young viewers unfamiliar with the original film … as for me, I’m a Karate Kid purist … I think I’ll take a pass on this remake. Are any of y’all interested in seeing this new Karate Kid?
