The White House is releasing today the first official photo of the First Family which was shot last month by famed celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz (who has been struggling with HUGE debt problems lately). Here is our first look at the official White House photo of the First Family — President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia Ann and Natasha (Sasha) Obama:

The Obamas have released a new official first family portrait this morning. As you can see at left, Barack and Michelle Obama are seated in the Green Room of the White House, along with their daughters Sasha, age 8, and Malia, age 11. The portrait was taken last month by famed photographer Annie Leibowitz, who has taken a number of Obama family portraits in the past.

Such a beautiful family, such a beautiful portrait. If you would like to have a high-res copy of this photo suitable for framing or what have you, you can download the file HERE at the official White House Flickr photostream. Great photo!!

As a photographer, I am not impressed. First of all I would crop off a little bit on the right side and a little bit on top, I think that would already improve the photo a lot but in general the background is just too busy. Seating them right in front of the open door is distracting. I would have expected more from Annie Leibovitz.

Ali, girl, you crazy. This is an amazing photo! It looks even better in hidef. Thanks for sharing Trent! And wow, they are a great looking first family!

  4. Margie Says:

I understand what you mean Ali but I think it’s a great pic. It’s one that we all have taken with our families. It seems formal but not and I love that. They are a family, a great and beautiful family much like our own.

this really is a fantastic shot!

  6. Jenn Says:

i heart the obamas! i think the photo is a representation of the obamas: classy and real, approachable. (well, not like walking up to them on the street, but you know what im saying. real people.)

Aren’t they beautiful! I’m so happy they’re our “First Family.” Ali, your critique is actually really interesting. I didn’t even think about the background at first. It is unusual to have those doors in the background, but I’m thinking it has to be intentional. I think it helps create an informal feeling that is really sweet.

  8. Krissy Says:

I think they look great! I don’t really care about the background, because their body language is so engaging. They look so connected, like a really strong and loving family unit. IMO, it is a very heart warming picture.

  9. Z Says:

I kind of agree w/ Ali. I mean, I think the family themselves look great, very happy, kind of informal but it doesn’t look look a professional pic to me. And the fact that half the family is wearing white and half the family is wearing dark colors is distracting to me for some reason.

  10. CHASE Says:

It’s a great photo but it could have been A LOT better. Maybe they were going with a more simplex tone? Obama’s hands look slightly awkward like that as well.

  11. Krissy Says:

I agree with Z. The family looks great, but now that you point out the color scheme, it does look a bit lop-sided. If the colors of the girls’ outfits were switched, it might look more cohesive.

its a good photo but not for a portrait, it just looks like another magazine photo pic…
