Plans Are In The Works For ‘The Blair Witch Project 3’
This year is the 10th anniversary of The Blair Witch Project (which many folks are making allusions to after seeing the new film Paranormal Activity) and the film’s creators are talking about a new sequel film which is in the works. The plan had been to make a prequel to the original film to tell the origin tale of the Blair Witch but it turns out that a sequel that will continue the story is now in the works. While I LOVED the original film, I absolutely loathed the sequel film The Blair Witch Project 2: Book of Shadows. It is among my all time hated movies … it’s soooo bad. I hope that part 3 will help undo some of the damage done by part 2 cuz, as I said, I really love the original film:

The third “Blair Witch” movie is likely to be a sequel rather than prequel. To Bloody-Disgusting, Eduardo Sanchez, the filmmaker behind the hit 1999 horror “The Blair Witch Project”, unraveled the plan he and directing and writing partner Daniel Myrick have for “Blair Witch 3″. “Between Dan and me and the Haxan guys that did the original Blair Witch, we are about as far along on a sequel idea as we’ve ever been,” he explained. “This is the first idea that Dan and I have really latched onto that we thought, ‘It would be cool.’ It’s a completely different kind of film, but we think it’s in the original spirit of the first one.” “Everybody that I’ve talked to wants the prequel, that story of the witch,” the filmmaker further revealed that he and Dan haven’t thrown away prequel idea. “We still want to make that, but the powers that be will not let that happen right now. If we do the sequel and it makes some money and there’s motivation to do another one, then maybe we can push the prequel a little bit.” As for when the confirmation on the project will be outed, he said, “In the next couple of weeks, something should happen; either a yes or a no or a maybe.” He added, “I don’t know how we’re going to release the story or whatever, but something’s probably going to happen by the end of the year where we’ll either say, ‘No, it’s not going to happen’ or hopefully, ‘Yes, it’s gonna happen.’ But the news is coming soon.” The original “Blair Witch” is presented as a documentary pieced together from amateur footage. Produced by the Haxan Films production company, it tells the story of three young student filmmakers who go missing while attempting to film a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch. A sequel called “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2″ was released on October 27, 2000.
Depending on your perspective, The Blair Witch Project was either a great horror film or a big disappointing horror film. I saw it before it opened, before the hype got too crazy and I loved it!! Seeing the movie for the first time was really one of those joyful surprises for me … I had no expectations and was totally blown away. I felt the same thing seeing Paranormal Activity (tho, allusions to Paranormal being like Blair Witch did clue me in as to what to expect). I lost all faith in the movie’s producers when I saw Blair Witch 2 … that movie was just garbage. I hope that if they do make another film that they put the same care into it that they used for the original film. In horror, sometimes less is more … I am much more receptive to subtle terror rather than over the top gore.

I, like you Trent, loved the orginal Blair Witch Project and walked out of Blair Witch Project 2. It was the worst film I had ever seen. If they can make along the lines of the original I’m all in!

I completly agree, the first film is one of my absolute favorites of all time!! No movie has ever been able to scare me like that. However watching the second one was like someone sticking hot pockers in my eyes! Although I did like an idea of a prequel with the right director, I can’t see the third installment going to far :-(

The best horror films, never show the “monster” at all.

I looooooove the original, and didn’t even see the 2nd one because of reviews such as yours. I was so impressed with the first one- I remember seeing the posters all over and being so excited about it, and it was as good as I hoped.

I saw the first after the hype so didn’t go over so well on me. I wish they were making a prequel that I would find much fascinating.

I never knew they even made a second one. The first one was good. Pretty innovative, I think. Speaking of bad movies. At the top of my list of all-time worst movies—Very Bad Things. Second–The Happening.

While the second one is pretty bad, I still love watching it. Between liking that, and Rihanna’s new hair, I think I’m probably the black sheep here at PITNB :( lol

Yes, the second one was pure garbage. And I really do hate it when horror movies try to be “scary” but using a lot of gore but it’s more gross than scary.

GOD! 10 years already? How time flies – kind of depressing, isn’t it?

I also loved the 1st one because I stayed away from the hype until LONG after I’d seen it. For some reason I never got motion sickness from the camera action like many other said they did. Then again, whenever I’m a passenger in a car, I have to read a book in order NOT to get nauseous! Don’t know why – But there it is. LOL!

The 2nd one I saw on TV & changed channels repeatedly between it & other things cause I kept getting bored with it… I can’t remember if Sanchez & Myrick gave the studio the green-light for “Blair Witch 2″, or they were somehow cheated – But here’s hoping they’ll treat this upcoming #3 with great respect & remember how they did the 1st one.

I think I have to respectfully disagree… I thought the original was horrible! Well maybe not horrible, but it definitely did not scare me. I remember watching it with a packed living room full of friends, all of us waiting for the big scare and we all felt gipped. Like we had blinked and missed it or something. I am curious about Paranormal Activity though…

The first one was filmed by UCF students & that’s my alma mater…. I feel I have to support this, even if it’s a flop. lol

The first thing I thought was “There was a second one?” I have yet to see either the first or the second. It’s on my list of must watch

@Chivonne – DO NOT see the second, it’s so bad.

I never had any interest in that movie, not then nor now.
Never saw it, did not even waste my time to download it or watch it on youtube. I wasn’t very inclined to go see it in the first place when it got out, but when I learned the fact that the motion of the camera was so bad that people got nausea, that was the last straw.
I can deal with a bit of shakes for the sake of an attempt to render the scene more real, but after a while I get it and don’t need to get hammered on the head over and over with it.
To me , the decision to keep this particular way of shooting for the majority of the movie is simply braindead.
I will pay to see something that is supposed to be watchable.
Not some ludicrously shaky crap .
I watched Cloverfield, and I feel the same way toward that movie. Wasn’t too bad for the concept, a documentay about a monster that is shot by people who can’t hold a camera properly is ok at first, but after a while, gimme a break !
I believe a director has to make a decision when it is time to use comon sense instead of stubborn rigidity for the sake of continuity. Otherwise, you get further and further from the enjoyable experience, don’t you think ?
The other thing is that I used to be scared by ghosts stories or surnatural things when I was younger. But not anymore.
I watched “Drag me to hell” yesterday, and the way I feel now is: Spirits, scary monsters and witches are just ludicrous and not a really good material to base a movie upon.
In my mind, you make a movie about something that is worth telling or showing. Outdated mumbo jumbo about curses and ghosts, etc just don’t cut it for me anymore.
Now, it just makes me laugh.
Like, the tv serie Supernatural. That serie cracks me up so much. I laugh my head off to the point I get dizzy and get chest pains from the irresistible howl I fight to keep quiet. That’s the way to go!
Give me something new, I’m quite fed up with the rest of the old dishes.
