Kylie Minogue WOWs The Crowd In Oakland, CA

The TV Guide
October 1st, 2009

As I mentioned earlier today, Kylie Minogue kicked off her first ever North American Tour here in Oakland, CA last night in a lavish show that pretty much blew everyone in attendance away. As soon as I heard that Kylie would be launching a US tour, I knew I had to be at her opening night performance.

It worked out very well that David’s brother Aram lives here in San Francisco so we were able to kill two birds with one stone. There are already so many photos, videos, etc. flying around about Kylie’s tour that I am going to try to keep the spoilers at a minimum. I managed to snap TONS of great photos last night. If you are so inclined, you can see some of my photos, check out the merch booth that will be available at the shows and watch a short video of Kylie’s entrance on stage last night — after the jump …

Kylie is known for her amazing on-stage entrances, last night’s was no exception. The show opened with a musical overture and went right into Light Years. Here is video of the last few seconds of her performance:

Here is video of Kylie speaking the crowd for the first time:

And here are a few of my fave pics from last night’s show:

The show setlist is exactly as I posted last week HERE except that Love at First Sight was the last song (switched with Better the Devil You Know) and for the addition of her NEW SONG Better Than Today (which you can hear in full HERE). All of the merch is hawt … I bought 2 shirts last night and will buy the rest of the shirts and tourbook at the next show in Hollywood this Sunday night. Seeing Kylie perform here in the States is such a long-held dream of mine … I was just giddy all night long. I understand that some folks flew in from other countries just to be able to see Kylie in such a small club setting (she normally plays to sold out arenas and stadiums all around the world). I got to meet so many amazing Pink readers last night but, please forgive me, I couldn’t keep track of everyone’s names. SF/Oakland is full of some great peeps, it was my pleasure meeting you all :)

The hotel we’re staying in is kicking us out in a couple of hours so today will be a shorter blog day for me … we’ll be back home in LA this evening so things will be back to normal tomorrow. Thank you for a wonderful time, San Francisco!! I’ll leave my heart here so that I can return soon :)

What’s with the square hula-hoop they’re trying to put around her? Hee-hee, LUV the Kylie!

  2. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Kent — They are big light sticks, they make shapes around her as she dances … hot :)

  3. J Says:

    @Kent
Never been to a Kylie Minogue concert, but from my guesses it is from a song from FEVER. I remember seeing a performance of hers which included those neon lights before. It could even be the song Slow perhaps – something from Fever or the album after that which includes Slow.

They make a letter “K” out of the lights during the song. Trent, correct me if i’m wrong here with LAST NIGHTS performance. But i’m about 90% sure and around 101% sure shes done that K thing before for Slow or something.

I know and sometimes question why people say Beyonce is the hardest working person (palease) but Kylie is that, hands down! She never disappoints really. Production, songwriting, TV specials, promotion, tours, merchandise, perfume & others and also interacting with fans! She is the full package.

  4. J Says:

Oh also, Trent, did she wear a similar feather outfit during KYLIEX2008??? If not – definitely a treat in referencing her Showgirl Tour (also Homecoming Tour – which was the Aussie leg of Showgirl but retitled after battling cancer and postponing). She wore the whole Showgirl feather outfit and even had a truck dedicated to transporting it to every location she was performing. From what i am aware, the Blue outfit in Showgirl and Pink in Homecoming are PRICELESS. Worth thousands and thousands!

  5. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

AMAZING….I feel like I was there!!!

  6. Geno Says:

Only thing missing. Your Disco Needs You.

  7. Dr. Whore Says:

The show was mind-blowing and the best 8th anniversary party ever that two big gay hairy bears could possibly dream of!

It was also a hoot meeting you and David.

  8. CHASE Says:

This show looks like a blast! I might have to see it.

WE had a blast last night at her Oakland show. It was definitely a party with so much emotions felt by fans (speaking for myself) who have followed her since 1987. So despite some of the rude and “unladylike” folks last night. It was one night we’ll never forget.. I mean, I’m still comin’ off the “high” of last night’s show. Take care!

  10. Jay Says:

Nice to meet you last night Trent… The show was amazing… I knew it would be… I think all those in attendance who were not as big of Kylie fans as some of us will now be and understand why she is SO AMAZING… WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!

  11. Lily Says:

Didn’t you love that theater? I wasn’t at the Kylie show, but I have recently seen Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Bon Iver at the Fox. It is so amazing and gorgeous, it’s really turning around that neighborhood.

  12. Avey Says:

I saw Kylie last year for her KylieX2008 tour and was a little disappointed as it was somewhat scaled down so she could bring the show out to Hong Kong but it was a great show nonetheless.

I’d love to see her US show – it looks like a lot of fun and I love the new costumes! I know she just started the tour but I hope she releases this on DVD… know of any plans to?

  13. Neh-Neh Says:

I was there last night and man, Kylie did NOT disappoint. I was a little worried because the venues she chose are so much smaller than the ones she plays in other parts of the world. I don’t know how they did it but they fit so many moving parts into the Fox theater. If you’ve seen the Kylie concerts on DVD, seeing the US show is a real treat! I think Kylie’s gay husband and creative partner, William Baker, did a surreal job of pulling together different looks from the different concerts. It was all like a dream with bits and pieces from the Fever, Showgirl and X shows! If you have a chance to see this do not pass it up ;-)

  14. Lydia Says:

I’m so jealous! I totally wish I could see Kylie. Oh well, maybe doing these shows will be a catalyst for her to do more shows over here in the future! Trent, do you know anything about when her new album will be released?

  15. DJ Vegas Says:

I just got back from my 3 show stint and I must say it was the best show I have ever been to. SO glad you got to see opening night too. The second night was great too and Vegas was pretty special. We ran into almost every person from the show but Kylie. Nearly ran William Baker over in the Skytube at the Palms. LOL .Sorry Willy. ;)
    Anyway YAAAY KYLIE!!! :D
