Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid
The TV Guide

Last night my friend Sergio, in town from Detroit this weekend, and I made our way to Club Nokia at LA Live in downtown LA last night to see KMFDM in concert. The German industrial band is currently on their Kein Mitleid Tour and not only was I lucky enough to attend but I was graciously set up with a photo pass so that I could snap some pics of the band rockin’ out on stage last night. Here are a few of the photos that I took last night:

I have been a huge fan of KMFDM for many, many years. They were effing incredible last night. For various reasons, I haven’t been able to see the band perform live for a few years so I was anxious to see them on stage again … I was not disappointed in the least. The new material was awesome but the classic tracks they performed were just KILLER! If you are a fan of KMFDM, this tour is not to be missed. Among my fave songs I got to hear last night was Megalomaniac, Light and Godlike and former KMFDM member Tim Skold came out to perform with the band for the encore! It was just AMAZING!! The band cares so dearly for their fans (Keiner Macht Fur Dich Mehr) … they are worth the devotion.

Quick story: I first saw the band live back in 1995 at Deep Ellum Live in Dallas, TX. There was a problem with the venue because the band had a strict policy about not marking up their t-shirts because they didn’t want to exploit their fans. They sold their shirts for $15 and Deep Ellum wanted to jack up the price to $25 … KMFDM vehemently refused and almost canceled the show. They decided not to sell any merch at the show at all and the concert went off as planned. At the end of the show, they announced that they would be selling merch at a record store down the street for the regular low prices and hung around to sign autographs and take photos with everyone who showed up. From that moment on, I was a devoted fan. I am so happy I was able to see the guys and Lucia live last night … the show was fantastic!! Click HERE to see all the pics I snapped last night.

Today … David and I are running a special errand (which I have to keep secret for another hour or so … watch my Twitter for the reveal) and then tonight we are going to the wedding of a couple of dear friends of ours. It’s going to be an amazingly fabulous day … I can’t wait to enjoy it :)

KMFDM doing it again! The crowd was typical LA lackluster but it was great to see KMFDM again after a bit of an absence. Hope tonight’s show in Pomona is better. Thanks for posting all those pics! Skold rules!

I always wondered and I was once told what KMFDM stood for…I never new the Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid wording….in my circle and probably others, we thought it stood for “Kill Mother F**king Depeche Mode”. Glad to know that it doesn’t!!! Ha! Ha!!

  4. @The Britney — It’s supposed to be confusing, from Wikipedia: “KMFDM is an initialism for the nonsensical and grammatically incorrect German phrase “Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid”, which literally translates as “no majority for the pity” but is typically given the loose translation of “no pity for the majority” or “no mercy for the masses”. The most common account of the origin of the name involves Konietzko cutting headlines from German newspapers and shuffling around the words to produce the now infamous expression.[3] The name was shortened to “KMFDM” in 1985 in order to simplify the long phrase, with one popular account having Raymond Watts originating the initialism to avoid the difficulties he had in pronouncing the German.

Confusion often arises regarding the correct German expansion of the acronym, primarily stemming from the aforementioned language issues. In German, nouns possess genders that require proper declension of any preceding articles or adjectives. In the true phrase, the articles preceding the nouns “Mehrheit” and “Mitleid” are inflected for the wrong gender. However, swapping the two nouns yields the grammatically correct “Kein Mitleid Für Die Mehrheit”, which additionally translates directly as “no pity for the majority”. Adding to the confusion is the fact that this “correct” phrase appears within the lyrics to the song “Megalomaniac”, which Konietzko revealed was done in order to confuse people who were always telling the band their name was wrong.[4]”
