Jennifer Hudson Shows Off Her Baby Boy
In August we learned that Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson gave birth to her first child borne of her union with fiancée and former VH1 reality TV star David Otunga (known as Punk on the show I Love New York) … and today we get our first look at the little dude. Here is a beautiful photo of mama J. Hud and her son David Daniel in the pages of the new issue of People magazine:
Motherhood definitely seems to agree with Jennifer Hudson, who gave birth to her first child, David – named after her fiancé, David Otunga – on Aug. 10. “I love being nurturing and caring because I love to see other people happy,” says Hudson. “Who better to devote my time to than my own child?” From singing lullabies (”He can be crying at the top of his lungs and just turn off like a switch”) to frequent bottle-feedings (”I’ve never seen a baby eat like he does!”), the singer (who chose not to address the tragic loss of her family members last October) offers PEOPLE an intimate look into her new life as a mom.
How hard was it keeping your pregnancy under wraps?
“David and I were the only people who knew for a long time. I would forget I was pregnant, it was so easy. I didn’t have any morning sickness, no cravings either. I just thought, ‘Oh, well, we’ll wait until it’ll tell on itself.’ I didn’t show until I was seven months so that made it easy right there.”
Your son was delivered via C-section, what was your recovery like?
“Everybody told me how much it was going to hurt afterwards but I think I have a different tolerance for pain than others. By that night after I had the baby, I’m like, ‘Look, I can’t sit in this bed anymore. I’ve got to get up!’ I’ve been up and about since he was born. To me, the pain is no different than when you work out a muscle you’ve never worked out before and it’s sore.”
Has his personality emerged yet?
“He has a lot of personality, like David. He’s always been a good sleeper. His favorite time to smile now is diaper changes. Or when he spits up on you – he just cracks up like he thinks it’s the funniest thing. And his bottle is his pacifier. With a pacifier, it’s like he knows, ‘Ain’t nothing come out of here. No, I don’t want that. Where’s the real deal?’ His best friend is that bottle; that’s all he wants.”
Would you be supportive if he wants to pursue a career in entertainment?
“We’ll definitely encourage education. His father is an education fanatic so we definitely want him to get an education and go to school. My mom always said, ‘Whatever you want to do, I’ll support you as long as you’re happy.’ So I will do the same.”
He is so precious … mother and son look so adorably cute!! J. Hud did a great job of keeping her pregnancy underwraps, we didn’t know for sure she was pregs until about 2 months before her due date. With all the heartbreaking tragedy that Jennifer endured last year, I’m so happy to know that she and her growing family are doing fine. Little David Daniel is a darling … congrats again, J. Hud!!

Cute baby – although how do you not know your pregnant until 7 months along? The missed period or weight gain in the lower ab region didn’t give that away? LOL

@ohmy- have you ever watched the show ‘I didn’t know i was pregnant’ on TLC? Apperently not knowing you are pregnant until you are giving birth happens somewhat a lot (given most of the women that don’t know, are usually overweight) but there has been some cases where small women don’t gain any weight and they have occasional blood spotting every month(Which can be normal in a pregnancy too) So they don’t even think about being pregnant. Its crazy.
But anywho, he is adorable. I really don’t get why its such a big thing for naming your child ‘normal’ or ‘not normal’. What may be seen as ‘normal’ here for a name, isn’t normal in another country. I usually go for the meaning a name holds, rather then worrying about what other people will think about it. XD

Man…man, man. I read this blog EVERY DAY and I have no idea how I missed the whole “Jennifer Hudson is pregnant” thing or the whole “Jennifer Hudson had a baby.” thing. I must have lost my mind on those days haha. I was seriously just shocked to see this post.

She didn’t say she didn’t KNOW she was pregnant until 7 months – she said it didn’t SHOW until she was 7 months along. They knew for a long time but were able to keep it private until that point. Faith – that is probably why you didn’t know – they were luckier than most celebrities and able to keep it to themselves until right before she gave birth. So happy for J. Hud!

I find it so weird that J-Hud would get involved with a guy like this. It just sounds so trashy to me. Some wanna-be celebrity going on a wanna-be reality tv show to win the love of some wanna-be celebrity. It’s so Z-List and then an A-List like J-Hud hooks up with one and then gets knocked up not long after… hmmm…
