Janet Jackson To Release New Singles Collection Titled ‘Number Ones’

Et tu, Janet?
October 10th, 2009

After releasing her first greatest hits collection back in the mid-90’s, Design of a Decade: 1986/1996, Janet Jackson feels it is high time to release another collection of her greatest hits. Spanning her entire career, Number Ones will compile 2 discs featuring many of Janet’s hits … some of which, ironically, never hit #1 on the Billboard charts:

What songs fans will get if they purchase Janet Jackson’s upcoming greatest hits album have been uncovered. Sixteen tracks are listed in the first CD, and there will be eighteen songs in the second package. Beside including smash hits from her previous releases, the double-disc album will also have a brand new song called “Make Me” which has come out since September this year. In addition, Janet’s duet track with her brother Michael Jackson, “Scream”, also appears on the list. The new compilation is titled “Number Ones” and becomes Janet Jackson’s first greatest hits set after 1995 release “Design of a Decade: 1986-1996″. It will be released across United States on November 17 with Nelly, Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell listed as featured guests.

HMMM … how very Madonna of you, Janet. Didn’t Madge first release The Immaculate Collection (1990) before releasing her new Celebration (2009) greatest hits collection? Tho, in Janet’s defense … it has been 13 years since her last singles collection and let’s not forget that Maddy released 2 other collections (Something to Remember in 1995 and GHV2 in 2001) in between Immaculate and Celebration. I was expecting her new song Make Me to appear on a new album but I guess we’ll have to wait until 2010 to hear any of that new stuff. After the jump, check out the tracklist for Janet’s new 2-disc singles collection Number Ones

  1. nicole Says:

umm trent..make me is the last song on the second cd?

  2. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@nicole — I believe that it is, that’s what the tracklisting is.

  3. nicole Says:

wait…nevermind i totally misread what you said about the song lol…*duhh* total blonde moment. sorry lol

  4. Jesse Says:

Trent, uhm…sucks for Janet but, its already been available on itunes since the night of her VMA performance…

  5. It's Trent, Bitch! Says:

@Jesse — It has?? I thought it was only streaming online … I’ll go get it now ;) Thanks!!

  6. nysro Says:

Wow what an original idea and name… Janet is such the innovator..

It’s a damned shame that the whole Jackson familiy used (and is still using) Michael death to further their dying and dead careers… Way to show the love for your brother..

You guys (Jacksons) should just all collectively take a dump on his burial site.. it would be liess disrespectful than profiting from his name and death every chance you assholes get.

  7. DT Says:

Nysro, I agree with what you are saying, for the most part. Except that Janet has been the only Jackson that has shown true class and remorse during this difficult time. I am pretty sure she had plans to continue with her music before MJ passed away, so there is no ‘using’ of his death in this case.

  8. PixiesBassline Says:

@nysro- RIGHT?! LOL!!!!! and @ DT- I agree with you about Janet… but I think even if I had those plans beforehand, I would have waited a little longer, out of respect for my bro.

  9. liz Says:

singing and dancing is what that family knows they should be able to keep on doing it / kelly preston and john travolta are still acting even though they lost their son

  10. J Says:

Yeah Make Me has been up for nearly 2 weeks now. It didn’t go up straight after the VMA, it streamed on her site for a week before it went up.

But how critical of you Trent to compare this to Madonna? Is it because they are probably the two biggest female recording artists that have both been around since the 80’s??? I mean i am a Britney fan and she is releasing a Singles Collection not so many years after her first Greatest Hits. Madonna is by far NOT the first person to release a Greatest Hits and NOT the first to release more than one.

Greatest Hits are okay, if you release one! Something like CELEBRATION is just a desperate attempt for money really. Celebration is gonna bomb as it already has i mean Madonna is all but over in the US. But Madonna has released numerous ones with almost identical tracklisting. Perhaps a GH every 4 albums is okay cause the tracklist can vary to a great degree.

Janets is obviously gonna have songs from Discipline, 20 Y.O, Damita Jo, All for You plus older hits too. But at least Janet can release a #1’s anyway cause she has had more #1’s than Madonna from what i’m aware of. Janet is more successful i believe on the Hot 100 than Madonna.

Eh, perhaps its cause Janet can out-dance AND out-sing Madonna (plus IMO, more talented in the studio too). So all the Madonna fans get all defensive and bitchey when it comes to mentioning Janet.

  11. CHASE Says:

This is totally lame. But, Britney’s only had two #1 singles in the US (Ridiculous – she deserves much more!) but she releases stuff like this. Oh well.

  12. The Britney Says:

She’s not pulling a Madonna she’s pulling aMichael. I mean he had an album with the same name…

  13. nicole Says:

@the britney – so did mariah…whats your point?..theres 100’s of albums called Number ones. did they all “pull a michael”?

  14. carl Says:

are you saying if someone calls an album # one no one else can use that name ever again? get a brain you idiot. And janet using Michael’s death for a career she has always had a career. since she was what; 15 y.o. Why should she stop putting out music because her brother decided to Over dose himself . Did he have respect for the family and his children not to kill himself ( no disrespect) at a normal job bareavment is what 3 days. Stop judging igo’s…. Oh and she was in the middle of filming wdigm two when she jumped on a plane to run to hospital. so learn the facts before opening that pot whole.

  15. carl Says:

Sorry i stand corrected, she started acting first so she has had a career since Good Times, Different strokes,Fame and then music. stop hatting hater. she is the Queen and he was the King. It is funny when he was here all we did was talk about how weird he was and destroyed him. That is probably why he wanted to get knumb. our judgmental a***es. Janet has been in the studio since the beginning of the year with jam and lewis her creative partners since Control. Should she stop that too?

  16. carl Says:

the ones getting rich off of Michael are the ones all of a sudden playing his music. ( new song sucks ) and I’m a huge fan of his. Now a movie, what next underwear? they are the ones using his death, but that is o.k isn’t it. she is the only jackson that is left to keep his memory alive now leave it alone and if a fan enjoy what she has to offer if you like it. if not shut the f*ck up and move on to the next site. she put all of her shit on hault for him and then she resumed with her life. Because her’s did not end. What about the kids. How selfish of him leaving them like that. he has hurt alot of people ( family) And for those that knew what he was doing shame on them. Fuck the money they should have helped him not gave him more to overdose on. don’t blame her for his mistakes. blame the public that made him act weird.

  17. Paul From Toronto Says:

I am sorry for those people who are hating on Janet, but I believe she has been getting a lot of slack ever since her “Nipplegate” episode and really its very lame. She is a great artist who deserves all the best in the industry. I love her music and her lyrics and well everything she does. This will be another album for my shelf.
    GOOOOOOOOOOOO JANET!
