Gone Marchin’ At The National Equality March
Today is a very important day for equal rights in the United States of America … legions of Americans of all walks of life will be marching in our nation’s capital, Washington DC, today to demand the government provide the same equal rights for all citizens — regardless of sexual orientation:

The National Equality March describes its aim as:
Equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states. We will accept no less and will work until it is achieved. Equality Across America exists to support grassroots organizing in all 435 Congressional Districts to achieve full equality.
We are guaranteed equal protection under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. Free and equal people do not bargain for or prioritize our rights. Full equality necessarily includes all members of the LGBT community and encompasses, but is not limited to:
* The right to work our jobs and go to school free of harassment and discrimination.
* The right to safety in our daily lives, and protection from hate crimes.
* The right to equitable healthcare, and the right to donate blood.
* The right to equitable immigration policies.
* The right to marry.
* The right to serve in the military openly.
Many bills currently exist to address some of these issues, but we do not support a piecemeal strategy. We seek one federal solution to full equality.
David and I feel compelled to lend our presence and our voices to this call to action and will be marching proudly with our compatriots today. I will be tweeting all day long from the National Equality March (#NEM) which you can follow along with right here on the blog. After the jump, watch a live stream from C-SPAN from the National Equality March in Washington DC and check out an interactive widget that will allow you to log in with your Twitter account and follow the #NEM tweets that will becoming out of Washington DC all day today …
The widget above will feature any tweet with the #NEM hashtag (the official hashtag of the National Equality March) but if you prefer you can always follow just my tweets HERE at my official Twitter profile. Today promises to be a historic day in the GLBT movement. Our country, the land that I love, was founded on principles of liberty and justice for all … now is the time to demand of our government that those principles be upheld for ALL American citizens. Click HERE to learn how YOU can get involved in this call to action wherever you may be in the country. Better yet, if you are in the area … come out and march with me and David and all the other citizens of the US of A and lend your voice to the cause.

I was at the April 25, 1993 march on Washington. It was very emotional on many levels but seeing the enormous AIDS quilt really moved me….I hope they roll it out again today….it is something everybody should have a chance to see.

Good luck! Wish I was there to march, too.
love from the atlanta gay community (and me, too!)
October 11th, 2009 at 10:32 am
So I’m not gay. But I do feel discriminated – because I can’t afford Harvard. Can somebody please do that for me too? No? Good, then I won’t do it for you too.

The Britney-get a job-that should solve your financial problems but cant help you with the low IQ. Sorry.
October 11th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
@ the Britney: there’s financial aid you can get, no one cares about the plight of the student who can’t fill out paperwork to get free money.
I hope members of Congress are watching this in their homes and it actually makes an impact. it’s unfair for members of the gay and lesbian community are being treated as second class citizens when they are first and foremost people. they’re someone’s child, parent, friend, family member. the only difference is who is on their arm when they walk out of the house and are in public. they’re still people EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!
October 11th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
ROCK IT TRENT!!!!
October 11th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
lol@ xoxo. Seriously The Britney? Get up off your arse and help yourself. It’s your future, you take care of it!
October 11th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
@The Britney— you are an idiot. There is a huge difference between your so-called problem of not being able to afford to attend an Ivy League school and the issue of discrimination against LGBT. They are being told they don’t have basic civil rights in our country. If you were being told you could not attend college at ALL on the basis of race, gender, or sexual orientation, then you might have a leg to stand on.
The fact that you used such weak argumentation as the basis for your lack of support for gay rights illustrates that you probably aren’t Harvard material anyway. Surely there is a community college in your area….
And if that was a weak attempt at humor on your part, which tends to be the typical come-back after someone says something idiotic, it wasn’t funny—epic fail again.
October 11th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
@The Britney Getting an ivy league education is a luxury, not a basic human right. Many people can’t afford Harvard either, but you won’t see them marching on capitol hill because of it. I’m guessing you got a rejection letter and now you’re bitter about everything.
Get over yourself.
October 11th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
@jj….how kind you are to assume The Britney even scored high enough on the SAT’s to apply and get a rejection letter from Harvard! A meaner person would have pointed out how TB cannot even construct a sentence…Ooops!
October 11th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Thanks for marching with us Trent! It was nice to meet you and get a picture before the march!
October 11th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
I have friends marching…I wish I could’ve to support my LGBT but I’m stuck all the way up here in Boston (at Harvard and on financial aid, coincidentally). Good Luck, Trent!
October 11th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Hope equality will come to everyone!
October 11th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Trent, thanks for marching….for those who cannot march out of fear of losing their jobs since they can’t be out at work..thanks for being a voice…I know equality will happen…hopefully soon!

To everyone thats concerned about me: I wasn’t serious about Harvard lol. All I tried was to explain that there’s many other people who are being discriminated for various reasons (those who don’t have money was just an example) and no one cares about them.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:09 am
Britney—It wasn’t funny, at all. You need to make the distinction between things that people are discriminated against that are unconstitutional and deny groups of people their basic civil and human rights, and those things that people have control over—such as your stupidity in making such ignorant remarks, money, education, etc. If you feel strongly about those things, feel free to organize a peaceful demonstration, get thousands and thousands (millions actually) of people to support you, make your case before local and federal governments and lobby to have laws changed.
October 12th, 2009 at 9:27 am
@worldgirl LOL I was trying to be nice.
@britney “To everyone thats concerned about me: I wasn’t serious about Harvard lol. All I tried was to explain that there’s many other people who are being discriminated for various reasons (those who don’t have money was just an example) and no one cares about them.”
This doesn’t change the fact that your example was very stupid and ignorant. I’m not gay but I support their fight for equality just as I am hoping that men support women’s fight for equality.
