First Listen: Rihanna, ‘The Wait Is Ova’?

It would seem we now know the title of Ri Ri's new single
October 19th, 2009

Last Saturday we saw photos of Rihanna on the set of her new music video and you may recall she was rockin’ an eye patch for the shoot. Today we get to see more photos from the music video shoot AND we get to hear a snippet of the song itself. First up, the pics:

You may recall that Rihanna posted a tweet on her official Twitter profile which announced the presumed release date of her new album (November 23) along with the line The Wait Is Ova. It was speculated that that might be the title of her album … and it very well may be … but new video from the shoot of her music video gives us a sneak listen of the first single and the line The Wait Is Ova is clearly heard in the song. Chances are, that’s the name of the single (and possibly the album as well). After the jump, check out the video and hear for yourselves …

It’s hard to judge the song from just this clip but … it sounds like it could be a hit. I can’t wait to hear it in full … the wait is, indeed, over and I couldn’t be more excited. Woot!! What do y’all think … do you like what you hear?

UPDATE: Ryan Seacrest just updated his Twitter account with the following announcement:

heads up – tomorrow i’ll have @rihanna’s new single “russian roulette” at 8:23am pst/11:23am est. I’ll link u when i get it

I guess the song title isn’t The Wait Is Ova despite the fact that she sings the line in the song. HMMM. Well, we’ll know tomorrow what the song sounds like so … it won’t be long now.

I hate the way its spelled! It shall be interesting if her career changes after the whole incident and what not. It still seems weird to release an album on a Monday but there’s like, what? 5 or 6 big named artists releasing material on the 23rd and 24th as well. Danggg

  2. dana j Says:

from what I hear in the clips it sounds like it’s going to be good. the outfit.. not a hit. the eye patch.. the whole thing just isn’t hitting it for me. I think once I see the video I will be cool with it. but the song is good.

    I have two question…

Who exactly was waiting on rihanna!?! And Where did she go!?

She isnt even big enough to be this cocky. Ugh!

  4. Mr. Gyllenhaal Says:

I like it but I really enjoyed her last CD! It gets me through many grueling minutes on the treadmill! I can’t wait to hear more!!

  5. J Says:

I really think she should take some dancing lessons and loosen up a bit. She looks awkward bopping up & down etc..
Sounds a bit slow… but we’ll hear soon i suppose!

  6. Nicola Says:

Argh I hate it when naturally pretty people make themselves look awful.

  7. poutyscouty Says:

It must be horrendously cold where and when they were filming. Ri looks like she’s freezing in what she’s wearing and everyone else is layered in warm clothing. Geez it must be hard having to wait around like that for the right lighting and shots in short clothes while the crew is nicely bundled and warm.

  9. Rhonda Says:

So glad that may not be the title cause all I can think of is “ova=plural for ovum” and that’s just funny or wrong…. I know it’s “street,” but sometimes street just doesn’t work out well. :)

  10. Rolltideguy77 Says:

I simply cannot support her art anymore. After her basically taking back Chris after he beat her, it just made me sick. The social responsibility she has to girls and women everywhere and she still befriends a man that beat her. If the courts hadn’t ordered them apart I truly believe she would still be with Chris. I can’t support that.

  11. megan. Says:

When did incorrect spelling become cool? Seriously, ova? OVA? Rihanna is a moron.

  12. isabelle Says:

The Wait is Ova would be a terrible name for a song, or worse an album.

  13. maribella Says:

ew. at about 1:37, you can hear the paparazzo or whatever talking about how much money he’s making from getting this footage.
ANYWAY, hopefully, “the wait is ova” line is about something else and not rihanna assuming that the public has been holding their breath to hear her. i can’t take any more cocky behavior from this lady. but anyway, the song sounds cool. let’s hope that outfit looks better after editing.

  14. Krissy Says:

Rolltideguy77, you aren’t supporting Rhianna because she was a victim of abuse? That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. First of all, there were RUMORS that she took Chris back, but nearly a year later, we can see that those rumors were not true. Her healing process is hers and hers alone. After she heals emotionally, if she wants to speak out, more power to her, but that isn’t up for you to demand. You seem to think that her healing process should be dictated by her career, and that is pretty horrific in my opinion. You might “truly believe” that she would be back with Chris, but that is your assumption, your blind guess.

  15. Krissy Says:

I think “ova” works for her, because that is how her accent sounds. Of course, I used to get seriously annoyed by the Pussycat Dolls and their line, “You know how to ‘preciate me…”. There are so many kids that are going to think “preciate” is a word!

  16. xewndar1 Says:

lets see if luck stikes twice for Rihanna. she was lucky to get people to write those hits for her, i dont think shes talanted. she cant sing or dance especially live. Beyonce is way better

  17. Laura Says:

@krissy The word ‘preciate should have been the last thing to bother you in a song titled “Stickwitu”! Haha

  18. Rolltideguy77 Says:

@Krissy I am not supporting her because she was a victim of abuse, I am not supporting her because she was a victim of abuse and did not press charges against the man that abused her. That sets a bad example for every girl out there in an abusive relationship. She let the man beat her and then let him off the hook for it. She never pressed charges. She isn’t with him because he was court ordered to stay away from her. I am not certain where you think I believe her healing should be dictated by her career. You are right her healing is her’s alone but I personally can’t look past her allowing her abuser off the hook. Enough women are beat, molested, raped everyday in this country and I just think she set a bad example. I’m not down with letting a man beat a woman and her letting him get away with it. It was her decision to do that and it’s my decision not to support her for doing so.

  19. nicole Says:

@rolltideguy77 – you cant expect her to be a spokes person just cause shes in the limelight. shes young and thats alot of responsibilty that personally i dont think she could handle.

  20. debho Says:

Hm, maybe a little ova-rated? lol Sorry, just had to say it.

[...] Rihanna has a new song and video coming out. And she’s wearing an eye patch.  I’ll withhold judgment. [...]

  22. The Britney Says:

Loolol first off what wait? The girl kept on releasing album after album after special edition after remix edition of the special edition.

If Britney named her Circus album the wait is ova it would’ve fit because her last album was 4 years ago(not counting blackout)………

  23. frell Says:

The hair, the clothes, the EYEPATCH! I agree with Nicola. Rihanna was pretty when she first started out, and even in that ridiculous Umbrella song, the short hair still worked.

Then she started shaving it and working a hairstyle that my ex-mother in law would wear. Now she looks like a fugly cockatiel died on her head.

She reads too much of her own press and must think she’s some kind of style icon. Or not. LiLo dresses better, cracky mc’cracky that she is.

  25. Yeah, and also... Says:

I just don’t “get” her she is beautiful but she doesn’t dance and she can’t sing so why/how does she have a career?

Every year American Idol brings like 250 ppl to LA all of whom at least can sing.

  26. Krissy Says:

Rolltide, it wasn’t up to her to press charges. It is the state that does that in cases like these, not the victim. She didn’t “let him off the hook”, she isn’t with him now and he is picking up garbage! Women are victimized everday, you are right about that. But no one expects those women to exploit their situation the way they expect Rhianna to. When women find the courage to speak up and help others with abuse it is usually privately and after they have healed…and no one has any idea if Rhianna has healed yet. At the end of the day, she is a human first, pop star second. She doesn’t owe anyone anything. It is my opinion that people who make demands of victims are pretty cruel.
