Date Night: Roscoe’s & Rollerskating

The TV Guide
October 9th, 2009

Because David and I are always on the go and we tend do things with a lot of our friends, we decided to institute a standing Date Night for just the two of us where we take turns planning a night of fun where we PRIMARILY do things that we don’t usually do. Because David loves to do active things and I don’t, and I love to go to concerts and he doesn’t we decided to try and find new things that we both might like … or at least would like to do together. I took the initiative to plan our first Date Night last night and decided we would have dinner at Roscoe’s House of Chicken N’ Waffles:

I’m a big fan of fried chicken and waffles and I urge all y’all to try it sometime. A friend took me to Roscoe’s many years ago and I’ve always wanted to go back … David and never been there so that’s where we went. Needless to say, we both enjoyed our fabulous meal :) The main event was an activity that I thought we would both enjoy and that we have never done together. After the jump, find out where we went for our Date Night fun …

After dinner, we trekked back over into the Valley to do a bit of rollerskating at the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, CA:

David had never been rollerskating before in his life … a fact that I found to be a travesty so I thought it would be fun for us to have a night at the rink. We had a blast … David picked up skating really quickly. The place was overrun by a HUGE group of young girls in costume and they kinda made the night more fun (if at sometimes a bit annoying). We also ran into a friend of my friends Sarah and Mark randomly at the rink. ‘Twas a fun night … we had a blast. Next time we do Date Night, David will be picking the activities … I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

In a couple of hours, we board a plane for NYC. We’re going back East for David’s sister Lara’s birthday tomorrow, then we’ll be heading down to Washington DC for the National Equality March Sunday before returning Sunday night for the first Kylie Minogue concert in NYC. I’ll be seeing Kylie again on Monday night for the second NYC show and then we come back home to LA on Tuesday. Ugh. It shall be a bizzy weekend … OY!! Happy Friday!!

I had my birthday party this year at Moonlight Rollerway…it rocks! It’s like stepping back in time! Roller rinks haven’t changed since I was a kid and it was THE place to have your birthday party.

Also, I’ve never even heard of fried chicken and waffles before… it sounds like such an odd combination. But I love waffles and I love fried chicken.. so maybe it’s a winning combination =)

I saw some lady on food network make chicken and waffles the other day. Am I missing something? I have NEVER heard of that before and it sounds sooooo bizarre. Waffles are for breakfast and should be served with syrup. And chicken is for dinner… the two just don’t seem like a good match to me.

    You guys are so cute!

I recently went rollerskating for the first time in nearly 20 years. SO much fun – although the floor seems a lot farther away than it used to! I’m planning to add skating into my workout routine just to mix it up a bit and keep things fun. Good times!

  18. Natalie DeJohn Says:

I love old-school roller skating! Have you ever been to World on Wheels? So fun!

  19. Katie Says:

Gah! Trent, you’re gonna be in DC this weekend?!! Why when I’m planning on going to Wburg? :-(

  20. CHASE Says:

I really want to roller skate! I have no idea how but I’m willing to risk my life, or, um… a few bruises. I saw the movie ‘Whip It’ and it really inspired me to skate! Ha. Not sure about the chicken and waffles, though.

  21. tayy! Says:
