Date Night: Mexican Masked Wrestling & Burlesque
Last night was Date Night for David and me and because it was my turn to choose, I decided that we would do something that neither of us have ever done before but I have ALWAYS wanted to. Ever since I moved to LA over 3 years ago, my good friend Adriana has been urging me to go see Lucha VaVoom! I’ve always been curious about Mexican Masked Wrestling and I can appreciate a good burlesque show so I was intrigued … but every time the show took place here in LA, I was out of town. This year, thankfully, David and I were in town to see it … and it was a blast:

The masked wrestlers and burlesque dancers (Sexo Y Violencia) were really fantastic … here are some scans from the show program of last night’s performers:

After the jump, check out some photos I snapped at last night’s show …

Of the burlesque dancers, Mona, was my fave … she was dressed as a mental patient and managed to pull off her underwear using her high heels … it was very impressive. Among the wrestlers, Los Cavaleras were my faves … their masks looked like Day of the Dead sugar skulls:

I highly recommend that all y’all in the SoCal area see this show when it comes back around … it’s a lot of fun.
For dinner, David and I grabbed some homemade food at a taco stand called La Jardin in front of the Mayan Theater … the whole night was just really fun!
Tonight, I’m heading out to see Dead Man’s Bones live in concert at the Echo. As you may recall, DMB is Ryan Gosling’s new band and I’m very excited to see them live. I’ll be wearing a fun costume to the show (watch my Twitter for a photo) … different and not as involved as the main Hallowe’en costume I’ll be wearing tomorrow :) Wee!! I’m so loving Hallowe’en this year … it’s been the best week thus far … and tomorrow is the actual main event! Woot!!
