First Listen: Imogen Heap, ‘Thriller’

Imogen Heap, who is one of my fave female singers of all time, paid a visit to the Dermot O’Leary radio show on BBC Radio 2 this past weekend and performed a live piano version of Michael Jackson‘s hit song Thriller. Now, anyone who is at all familiar with Imogen Heap should be well aware of her musical style and can appreciate the way she transformed the song into one of her own … for those of you unfamiliar with Imogen, her cover of Thriller can give you an idea of just how amazing she is:

Because we are just a few days away from Hallowe’en, MJ‘s Thriller is getting a lot of play all over the place … which is why I think it was very smart of Imogen to cover it on this radio show. Unfortch, I couldn’t find a way to download the track but after the jump you can hear it in full in a You Tube video that has been made available online …

First Look: Rihanna, ‘Rated R’

Last week we got our first look at the cover artwork for Rihanna‘s new single Russian Roulette, the first from her new album Rated R due out on November 23. Today, courtesy of PopEater, we get our first look at the album cover artwork for Rated R itself … behold:

You’ve probably seen Rihanna’s racy single cover, and now PopEater is proud to exclusively premiere the cover for her impending album, ‘Rated R.’ The grainy black-and-white cover shows the R&B queen draped in hand jewelry and covering one eye. The album, which is set to be released on Monday, Nov. 23, is Rihanna’s first album since 2007′s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad.’ It is also Rihanna’s first album since she was assaulted by boyfriend Chris Brown in February. The ‘Rated R’ cover was shot by famed photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who says that “Rihanna was looking to create something a bit new for the look of the album.” Von Unwerth goes on to say that Rihanna is “so beautiful, sweet and tough at the same time — and a pleasure to shoot,” adding that she’s “fantastic to work with — very giving, very creative, very involved in every aspect of the shoot, and ready to push the boundaries.”

As far as album covers go, this is one ain’t too shabby. The look of the photo reminds me of the photospread Ri Ri did for Italian Vogue over the Summer. To be honest, I expected the album artwork to be more racy … I like that it’s kinda understated. I’m SO dying to hear this album tho … the photos are nice and all but it’s all about the music. I can’t wait to hear more from Rated R. As far as the coverphoto goes, tho, what do y’all think … do you like?

Amy Winehouse Proudly Shows Off Her New Fake Boobs

Last week, Amy Winehouse‘s father Mitch was quoted as calling Amy‘s newly enlarged breasts “fantastic” and today Amy wants YOU to judge their “fantasticness” for yourselves. Ms. Winehouse made a messy appearance at the Q Awards in the UK last night but it was her behavior after the awards show that really got all the attention. Amy spilled out onto the streets of London and spilled out of her top to put her ample new plastic breasts on very public display … and how!

She’s said to be offering help and guidance to 13-year-old Dionne Bromfield in her role as a godmother. So presumably this is Amy Winehouse’s way of showing the teenage singer how to get yourself noticed. Winehouse wore the skimpiest of cocktail dresses to display her recent breast enlargement when she turned up with Dionne for the Q Awards yesterday. By 8pm, having earlier made a change into a corset top, the singer’s asset had popped entirely out of the ensemble. It was a predictable turn of events, with her clothes seemingly slipping further down her body as the night went on. Thankfully, Dionne had gone home at the point of exposition leaving Amy to disgrace herself in front of her manager and waiting photographers … Winehouse single-handedly brought the Q Awards to a halt in front of stunned guests as she failed to arrive on time for her presenting duties. The troubled star was due to hand over the prize for the most inspirational artist alongside reggae singer Don Letts. But Letts was forced back into his seat while embarrassed host Al Murray frantically tried to fill time and organisers searched for the singer. After several minutes Letts was called back to the stage to present the award to band The Specials with no sign of Winehouse. Midway through The Specials’ acceptance speech, Winehouse finally arrived, picking her way through the audience and clambering on stage – only to be given a furious talking to by an angry Letts.

Ye gods, the woman is a mess … again. Someone needs to ship her back to the isle of St. Lucia where she can seemingly do no harm to herself or anyone else. Why she felt the need to get giant silicone breasts is anyone’s guess … if Amy Winehouse really thinks she is going to be a sex symbol now that she’s got ginormous fake boobs she is crazier than I thought. After the jump, if you dare, check out a few photos of Amy‘s ample bosoms busting forth out of her top — beware, the photos are NSFW …

Elizabeth Taylor Tweets A Rave Review Of ‘Michael Jackson’s This Is It’

Elizabeth Taylor, Hollywood legend and BFF to the late Michael Jackson, posted a long series of tweets on her official Twitter profile heaping enormous amounts of praise on the documentary/concert film Michael Jackson’s This Is It which opens worldwide TONIGHT at midnight. @DameElizabeth, as she is known on Twitter, reveals that she was able to see the movie last week but was “sworn to secrecy” until now. Here is the chronological series of tweets that Taylor posted to her Twitter account yesterday concerning This Is It:

I was honored with the great privilege of seeing “This Is It” last week. I was sworn to secrecy, but now I can let you know about it. / It is the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen. It cements forever Michael’s genius in every aspect of creativity. / To say the man is a genius is an understatement. He cradles each note, coaxes the music to depths beyond reality. / I wept from pure joy at his God given gift. There will never, ever be the likes of him again. / And we have this piece of film to remind us forever and ever that once there was such a man. God kissed him. / God blessed him and squandered nothing, but loved it all. Michael knew how to put together every tone, every nuance to make magic. / To say he was a genius seems so little. I wish my vocabulary encompassed what I feel. / You owe it to yourselves and your loved ones to see this again and again. Memorize it and say to yourselves, “I saw genius in my lifetime” / I loved genius in my lifetime. God was so good to me. I will love Michael forever and so will you, if you don’t already. / I hope I don’t sound condescending. I’m sure you already know what I’m talking about, but go to see it again and again. / I meant to repeat myself. I love you. I remember Michael loved you. He was totally up to now and the message of today in all his songs. / If you listen to his lyrics they are those of a modern day prophet and it beseeches us to listen to him and what he sang. / I won’t use words like preaching because that is off-putting, but listen. Listen to his messages. / From “Black And White”, “Man In The Mirror”. The inspiration behind “We Are The World”. We must take his words of responsibility seriously. / We cannot let his life be in vain / and always done with love. Remember that. Remember him and thank God for him and his genius. / Kenny Ortega did a masterful job of directing the process that goes into making a complete show before hitting the stage. / From A to Z you get Michael’s input on every level. Michael’s genius at work with the dancers. Mr. Ortega catches Michael in his every mood. / You see in front of your eyes Michael’s genius blossoming on this piece of film thanks to Kenny Ortega and his crews. / I truly believe this film should be nominated in every category conceivable.

Wow! Talk about a ringing endorsement! While it’s plainly obvs that Ms. Taylor doesn’t really get the constraints of adhering to the 140 character limit of messages on Twitter, she really has a lot to say about this film. As if a movie of this magnitude needed any more hype, I’m sure that Taylor‘s love of the film will do much to inspire latecomers to see this film while they still can (remember, Michael Jackson’s This Is It is scheduled to show in theaters for 2 weeks only). Intense hyperbole aside (“It is the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen”), I think Taylor‘s tweets will get even more people to venture out to see this film. A group of friends and I will be seeing the film at 9pm tonight but if YOU would like to watch a live webcast of the film’s red carpet premiere, you can do so at 7:30 PM ET / 4:30 PM PT online! After the jump, find out all the deets …
