First Listen: Rihanna, ‘The Wait Is Ova’?

It would seem we now know the title of Ri Ri's new single
Monday, October 19th, 2009

Last Saturday we saw photos of Rihanna on the set of her new music video and you may recall she was rockin’ an eye patch for the shoot. Today we get to see more photos from the music video shoot AND we get to hear a snippet of the song itself. First up, the pics:

You may recall that Rihanna posted a tweet on her official Twitter profile which announced the presumed release date of her new album (November 23) along with the line The Wait Is Ova. It was speculated that that might be the title of her album … and it very well may be … but new video from the shoot of her music video gives us a sneak listen of the first single and the line The Wait Is Ova is clearly heard in the song. Chances are, that’s the name of the single (and possibly the album as well). After the jump, check out the video and hear for yourselves …

Matthew McConaughey’s Bird Buddy Is Back

... on his back
Monday, October 19th, 2009

A couple weeks ago we learned that Matthew McConaughey got himself a new pet, a breed of bird called Sun Conure, and today we see that Matty’s little birdy friend is still hangin’ around:

Um … I have to admit that I really love Matthew with his bird. It’s such an odd thing to see a man and his bird just out in public … you can understand how sometimes that could be off-putting. As far as celeb pets go, I think McConaughey’s Sun Conure is my new fave.

Kylie Minogue: Acoustic In NYC

Backstage & Intimate
Monday, October 19th, 2009

Kylie Minogue, who recently completed a very successful first concert tour of North America, updated her official blog by posting a new video that she recorded backstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC (the venue for her 3 NYC shows last week). Kylie, her backup singers, musical director and guitarist performed an intimate and short set of 2 acoustic tracks … Wow and Red Blooded Woman:

I am in absolute LOVE with this video … Kylie sounds amazing and makes it very evident why she has managed to enjoy such a successful worldwide career in music. Wow is one of my fave upbeat Kylie songs (actually, it’s one of my fave Kylie songs period) and it’s such a treat to hear it performed acoustically. After the jump, check out the video and hear for yourselves …

They're in this together now
Monday, October 19th, 2009

Yesterday I mentioned that David and I were in attendance at the joyous wedding of our dear friends Mariqueen Maandig and Trent Reznor on Saturday night and I shared a few photos from the wedding reception. But while I still will not share the intimate details of the wedding ceremony itself (as I said before, it’s not my story to tell) I would like to share with all y’all a few more photos from the event. Here is the exclusive first look at Mr. & Mrs. Trent and Mariqueen Reznor on their wedding day this past Saturday:

The bride was absolutely stunning in her beautiful wedding dress and the groom was lookin’ pretty swanky himself. It is my extreme pleasure to share the beautiful sight of our newly and very happily wedded friends :)

After the jump, check out an adorable photo of the Mr. & Mrs. sharing their first dance together as husband and wife and also check out a really fun photo of Mariqueen rockin’ her sexy red reception dress …

Where The Whiny Things Are

The TV Guide
Monday, October 19th, 2009

Yesterday afternoon I got to share a late brunch with my friend Sergio who flew back home to Detroit last night … his time was limited in town but I’m glad I got to see him all 3 days he was in town. Last night I met up with Kirsten, Josh and Darion and the 4 of us made our way to the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood, CA to see Where the Wild Things Are:

Because I loved this storybook as a child I had high hopes that the movie version would be just as good. I have to admit that I really liked the movie … up to a point. Let’s start out on the positive … young actor Max Records, who plays the lead boy in the film, was a revelation. He was so enjoyable to watch on the big screen … for me, he really made the character in the book come alive. Never once it look like he was acting — he really became the character. Spike Jonze’s direction was superb … the visuals were just outstanding and the movie really is a sight to see. For me, the movie was only half good. It started out strong and held me rapt for the first half of the run time … but once the Wild Things started to show how emo/whiny they were made out to be, I quickly lost interest. For me, the story held such wonder and imagination as a child … and visually, the movie does as well … but the “poor me”, self-loathing, whiny bullshit that the Wild Things started to spew was such a turn off. I was totally bummed out by the time the movie was over. I was sure one of the Wild Things was gonna commit suicide … and I’m utterly convinced that some of them are emotional cutters. Dude, I get that this film was meant to be an emo masterpiece but it got really heavy-handed midway thru. Once the main Wild Thing named Carol ripped off the arm of his best friend out of self-hating frustration, I was pretty much checked out. I personally felt that casting James Gandolfini as the voice of main Carol was a huge mistake. All I could hear was Tony Soprano … his very audible nasal breathing-while-talking manner was hugely irritating. So yeah … the movie is really, really good for the first half and almost just as equally bad for the second half. Because the book is only like 13 sentences long, the director really had to take liberties with the extrapolation of the story … IMHO, he got it half right.

Not sure what the plan is for tonight … David and I are expecting his sisters for a visit later on this week and we have LOADS of cleaning to do before they arrive. Depending on how much work we get done will determine if I will be able to get outside and see the sun.
