President Barack Obama Calls Kanye West A ‘Jackass’
Executive order

Altho I haven’t made any public announcements, I think I will be following the New York Post blog Pop Wrap‘s lead in NOT covering Kanye West anymore on my blog … but this is too good to not share with all y’all. In the wake of Kanye‘s horribly selfish and outrageous decision to ruin Taylor Swift‘s moment at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday night, President Barack Obama was asked what he thought of Kanye‘s behavior. Unknowingly, President Obama was recorded giving his honest opinion on Kanye West‘s actions and was heard calling him a jackass. As it turns out, the recording of President Obama‘s assessment of Kanye has made its way to the Internets, courtesy of TMZ:

TMZ has obtained the audiotape of President Barack Obama calling Kanye West a “jackass” for hijacking Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during the VMAs. The audio was recorded just before Obama went on camera to do an interview with CNBC. Before the interview began, Obama — referring to Kanye’s antics on stage — said “I thought that was really inappropriate,” then adding, “He’s a jackass.” After making the remarks, Obama said “Where’s the pool?” Presumably, he was worried the joke would go wide. He noted the last time that happened, he got burned for killing a fly. Obama said, “Cut the President some slack.”

LMAOOOO. When the president calls you a jackass, you’re pretty much a jackass. While I’m sure President Obama wouldn’t have been quite so open with his opinions had he known he was being recorded, I’m glad that this little nugget of awesomeness was recorded for posterity. The president was only saying what pretty much everyone else believes. After the jump, hear the snippet in full …

Because this will prolly be the last post I write up that deals at all with Kanye West, I suppose I should pass along the info that a contrite and sober West showed up on The Jay Leno Show on Monday night to apologize again to Taylor Swift for his outrageous behavior, I understand that he even called her to apologize on the phone … which she accepted. Kanye mentioned on Jay Leno that he would be “going away for a while” to think about what he did … that sounds like a great idea. Again, I think I’m done giving any of the attention that this egotistical jackass so desperately wants … but hopefully, at last, he finally realizes what an a-hole he really is.

I’m pretty sure this comment just made the President 1000 times more relatable than he already was. Love that man, and I’m not even American! The beautiful thing is, he doesn’t even have to apologize for it, since it was technically off the record.

I don’t buy Kanye’s pathetic apologies for one second. The only reason he’s even issuing them is because of the backlash his career and image are receiving. I agree with the above comment that everyone is redeemable, but this man has a long long long journey ahead of him before he can actually show remorse for hurting someone else other than himself. Unfortunately, people who believe they are the centre of the universe well into adulthood tend to never think otherwise in their lifetime.

I think Obama is a great man, and a great president. He seems like a genuine guy, and I think comments like this are going to do nothing but increase his popularity, especially among the youth of America. I think he is the first presidential candidate that really did engage the youth, and think that’s an important and major reason why he won the election (aside from the fact that his VP was actually competent…)

  4. Matsujun says:

This is ridiculous. Everyone is making such a big stink over Kanye, but did no one pay attention to the fact that Lil Mama rudely got on stage and interrupted Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance? Where is everyone with their pitchforks and torches aimed at her?

I think who we really should be boycotting is MTV. Obviously, they don’t believe in any type of security because Kanye AND Lil Mama can both get on stage with that much ease. Also, they let Kanye walk the red carpet already drunk. He had the bottle of Hennessy right in his hand!

  5. beyanye says:

Taylor is still on the bleechers. Poor thing.

  6. Ama says:

@Matsujun- I think why people are more upset with Kayne, then Lil Mama is the fact that Kayne hurt someone’s feelings. Not only that he took away her moment, for her first award. That’s why everyone is upset with him. Yes, jumping on stage is rude. But that isn’t what got everyone upset, and I didn’t watch when Lil Mama got on stage during their performance. But unless she got up there, took the mics from them and told them they stink at their singing. I don’t think its as bad as What Kayne did. But yes, I agree with you about MTV needing to take some blame for what happened and you know, up their security at the next event such as the VMAs.

Anyways, I really like Obama. This made me like him more, he is just such a real person. I don’t get why everyone hates him, they seem to forget that he has eight years of mess to pick up and fix from the last president. He can’t just magically snap his fingers and everything will be dandy. I think he is doing the best he can so far, and trying to get to what he can. I like him :) he can be a president and person.

    $5,500 dinner with the President
$15,00 one night’s stay in the White House
Obama calling Kyne West a jackass PRICELESS!!!

  8. Mariah says:

Hahahaha oh my God, Trent. I read that the invitation sent to Kanye West for Whoopi Goldberg’s something something at the White House hosted by Obama himself on October 3rd has been revoked. …The invitation’s now going to Taylor Swift. hahaha what a slap in the face! Just had to add that little detail to this post…karma, baby.

  9. Mariah says:

And I have a link to the info, but it won’t let me post it here for some reason.

  10. BoodyNeptune says:

His apology was far from sincere. Remember, this isn’t the first time he’s done this. He probably thought he’d do it again, that whole ‘all press is good press’ sort of thing. This time it blew up in his face and he’s blaming it on being drunk. He wasn’t drunk the other times he did it.

  11. allytartcheck says:

I love my President. And I love the idea of a KW boycott!

  12. Kevin says:

Trent, I LOOOOVE your blog and need to visit it many times a day – I want it to be clear I’m a big fan

I think it’s odd that you are deciding to boycott Kanye. I agree that he was immature and selfish with his acts at the 2009 VMA’s. If you choose to no longer write about him based on that, that’s your choice.

I find this odd because you still report on Chris Brown, who in my opinion, has done much worse than Kanye’s outburst.
    Just something to think about

  13. Kent says:

oh good, i was secretly hoping you’d do that (not cover Kanye anymore), I’m really glad you’re moving in that direction Trent.
I mean, clearly there are worse people in the world who are committing much more heinous acts than stealing people’s spotlights and letting their egos and their apparent alcoholism go uncontrolled, but as far as providing coverage of his antics goes, I’m really pleased I won’t have to see that crap here.
    Good on ya, Sonya!

  14. Jenn says:

haha i love Obama…he’s in touch with pop culture and as our head of state i think thats pretty important.

Kanye certainly deserved those comments by Obama.

. . . right after Taylor’s interview on The View yesterday, Kanye personally called her to apologize. . . .I think the initial shock of the VMAs has worn off by now, and we all can give it a rest.]

NO, tw2o days LATER, with the world on his heals, and even the music world against him, he slithered to the phone and apologized. WHY DIDN’T HE APOLOGIZE TO HER THAT NIGHT???

When Joe Wilson yelled at Obama he called the president THAT NIGHT and personally apologized. NOT a string of messages through talk shows and third parties.

Two Jackasses. One is a man the other an over paid hack who thinks its OK to upstage a little 19 year old white girl.

West needs to go away, sober up, and GROW UP.

  16. Kammie says:

  17. Ja says:

Initially what Kanye did really pissed me off. Who the hell does he think he is? But then again, he is who he is, and you can’t save somebody from themselves. It was just extremely idiotic of him to pull a stunt like that in front of so many people, and now he’s really facing the heat. He’s lost a lot of support from people. I just wish people would get their heads out of their asses and recognize that he isn’t the only celebrity who thinks he’s above the rest. We should stop giving celebrities special treatment in general.

  18. jessica says:

there might have been a call after this interview but she says she never got called:

forgetting about the whole kanye thing. I have to say, hearing barack interacting with his staff and just being normal and uncandid, it sounds like it would be so fun working for the guy!!!
