Nicole Richie Gives Birth To A Baby Boy
Welcome to the world Sparrow James Midnight Richie-Madden

Congratulations are in order for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden on the birth of their second child, a baby boy they have named Sparrow James Midnight! The official announcement was made on Nicole‘s official website but the news was quickly disseminated by Joel on his official Twitter profile. It’s a boy!!

In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009 Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.

Joel tweeted: Geuss who’s back….. Oh i’m sorry we were only having a little baby boy.

I guess it turns out that those rumors we heard back in May about the baby being a boy turned out to be true!! You may recall that we learned over the weekend that Nicole reportedly checked into the hospital to give birth … and at last the Nic/Joel‘s second child is born! Surely this must be a magic baby … he was born on 09.09.09. I can only imagine that the little guy is as cute as his big sister Harlow Winter Kate. Much, much love and congrats to the happy family on their expansion!! XO

Naming your child is the one thing in life you can do all on your own and nobody can change it…except the child when he or she turns 18!
Trent, I will count on you to provide up to the minute celeb-spawn name change news starting in …….maybe 14 yrs???

  2. Courtney says:

What IS it with these wacko names? Sparrow? Really?

  3. Jess says:

We’re living in the 21st century. It’s more common to see ‘unusual’ names. I think it’s refreshing. I personally would have loved to have had a different name when I was kid. There were always at least another 4 or 5 Jessica’s in each year at school.

I’m happy with my name now, but I still think it would’ve been cool to have something unique and quirky.

  4. Dawn says:

Congrats to them, but to me, Sparrow is a lovely name….for a GIRL!!!!! For goodness sake!

“As long as it isn’t completely stupid like Popsicle Stick Andrews or something ”

    HAHAHAHAHA
Got a good chuckle out of that one, thanks Chivonne :)

  6. Andrea says:

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! I’M SO HAPPY FOR THEM. :)

  7. seren says:

I absolutely love both childrens full names. Both Harlow and Sparrow are beautiful names and they both have traditional/dull middle names to equal it out anyway.

  8. Melissa says:

OMG I knew it!!! I’m so excited! They are definately my favorite celebrity family and I can’t wait to see pictures of this baby boy… I’m sure he will be just as adorable as Harlow.

And about the name, I think Sparrow is a freakin’ awesome name! I love it!

  9. christina says:

i really, really hope she didn’t have a planned c-section because of the date but unfortunately i wouldn’t be surprised. seems to be very common among celebs these days. that is the ultimate in selfishness.

  10. Jennie says:

Congrats to the family, but that is an aweful name

  11. Christine says:

I’m still surprised they didn’t use something to honor DJ AM or MJ. Unless some other part of the name actually referes to them and we just don’t know it.
Either way: Sparrow? really? I see how it rhymes with harlow and its a nice word and all, it’s just not a NAME! James is a nice name, kind of boring. and then MIDNIGHT? again, really? unless again it has something to do with time of day he was born as someone above mentioned.

  12. Megan says:

Why should they have to alter a planned name because people they knew died? It’s possible she didn’t plan the date. I mean, my baby cousin was due yesterday, it sometimes happens that babies are set to be born on unusual dates, it just happens, can’t help it.

  13. Danielle says:

Sparrow definitely comes of as a gendered name to me, v. feminine…

  14. elenore says:

Who cares what celebritys or nicole and joel name there kids for that matter . Everyone knows that the names obviously are ‘different’ then most . I love how like 50 people need to go off about it , lmao . Like it matters anyways ? Its pointless hearing about it too , haha but all goood .

  15. Heba says:

They should have anopther boy named Jack, and then they would have JACK SPARROW!!! lol

  16. tsagrednerp says:

How are they hurting their child with that name? This kid is 2 days old and will grow with this name, it’s his name, his identifier, how is that hurtful?

I personally like the name and think it works for a boy but what I think matters none at all to these people. Whether they’d named him Sticky Rice or John Patrick they have a healthy baby and they’re happy. Why does it have to be more than well wishes?

Why would it matter if she had a planned c-section or not? Did she endanger the baby/herself? No. Why is this adult’s choice your business? These debates I swear.

Congrats to them and happy wishes for their family.

  17. hatehyps says:

@tsagrednerp….you can’t believe these debates? YOU are debating it as well, hypocrite.
and any person with a speck of a brain knows that a c-section is a major surgery and is quite a risk. so yes, she did endanger bother herself and the baby out of potential selfishness.

  18. Rory says:

so right about it at least not being pilot inspektor.i dont like the name, but then again its not my baby so really doesnt matter what i think
